  1. I’m in the process of developing a tactic for a new Manchester United save I am doing. I’ve been reading several guides from these forums to create a solid system, but there’s some further guidance I’d like. My philosophy for the team will be (broadly speaking) high line and high pressing intensity hoping to win the ball back quickly. In the attacking transition I want to play swift, direct counter attack if the gaps are there. Playing a lower LOE/higher DL should help facilitate this style. If gaps for a counter attack aren’t there, I want to play a more patient possession based game until the gaps arise. I will endeavour to use attacking overloads to create this space. However, I’ve a few questions. I’ve got several aspects of the tactic solidified in terms of which roles I want to play, which TIs I want to use etc., but there are still some grey areas. Firstly, if I select in the ‘In Transitions’ tab to counter upon winning the ball back, but then in my ‘In Possession’ tab a more patient approach, will that deliver what I want? I.e will the tactics then be to only counter if we can and if not to play patiently? Or will we counter regardless of the opportunity every time the ball is won back? Secondly, I know I want a DM who will give cover in front of my CBs and hold his defensive position in the attacking phase. The Anchorman role suits this, however it means their passing will be simply and risk-free. A DLP on defend, however, gives the opportunity for more adventurous passing if the opportunity is there - this could be crucial for launching counter-attacks. However, I worry a DLP would not sit as deep and be as defensively disciplined as an Anchorman... is this true? If so, how do I get what I want from my DM? Thanks!
  2. Summary: Players, especially wingers and wing backs, are often brought into crossing positions but won't give them for no apparent reason Description of Issue: (Wide) players won't give any, or very few, crosses into the box. Even when there are 3-4 of our own players in the box, the ball is not coming. Instead, the player passes back or dribbles across the touchline. Only when crossing TI's & PI's are all activated, will we see crosses and chances from them. This mainly goes for wide players such as wingers, IF's, and wing-backs. But also players who roam from their position and find themselves in a crossing opportunity will not or rarely cross. I am aware that roles such as IF are not encouraged to cross, but I didn't change anything in my approach in roles compared to previous editions of the game where crossing wasn't a problem. On top of that, crossing has always been a huge part of my tactics and this is the first year that I encounter this issue. Steps to Reproduce: Watch the saved matches uploaded to OwnCloud. One with extra crossing PI's and TI's on, one without, hence the title of the matches. Files Uploaded to the OwnCloud: Two PKM's (KAS Eupen v KRC Genk no crosses TI & PI.pkm and KAS Eupen v KRC Genk.pkm) and one save game (KRC Genk.fm). EDIT: uploaded the PKM's here as well. In the PKM's: I left out the situations where crosses weren't given when it corresponds even remotely with my tactics. In the match without crosses TI & PI: 00:20: Maehle is played out on the right side. Goes for an unrealistic shot instead of a cross. Blocked. 02:00: Bongonda finds Uronen on the left side in a crossing position. No cross. 02:20: Heynen finds Uronen on the left side in a crossing position. No cross. 02:40: A throw-in eventually makes its way to Nygren who is in a crossing position. No cross. 10:57: Heynen plays to Uronen on the left side in a crossing position. No cross. 26:20: Nygren makes his way down the right flank. Three players joined on the break and made their way to the box, as told by the tactic and their roles. No cross. 28:15: Mæhle is played out on the right side in crossing positions several times. No crosses. 37:20: Mæhle is played out on the right side in a crossing position. Instead, plays a back pass of 40 meters towards the defence. 40:45: Mæhle is liberated on the right side in a crossing position. No cross. 41:14: Mæhle dribbles himself to a crossing position. No cross. 44:30: Nygren plays out Mæhle on the right side in a crossing position. No cross, keeps dwelling on the ball and is fouled. 55:45: Uronen is played out on the left in a crossing position. No cross. 60:00: Hagi gets the ball on the edge of the box after a deflected free kick. The majority of players are in the box. He keeps dribbling and shoots from an impossible angle when he's on the touchline. 73:10: Mæhle in a crossing position on the right. No cross. 90:45: Mæhle in a crossing position on the right. No cross. And these are only the obvious ones. I've played this team in every version for the past five years and my tactical approach has never been different. I know when they should cross and when not so please don't come and blame it on 'Play for set pieces' or 'Work ball into the box'. The other match has all crossing TI's and PI's maxed out, and only then am I seeing more normal crossing behaviour. I will not list up anything from that match since I didn't pay 45 euros to waste my free time in the evening on listing when and if a blue dot crosses or not. 3. Hi people, I'm new here. I've got somewhat "obsessed" with the issue of Team Shape. I've read a number of useful posts and articles and I now understand that, in general, more fluid shapes offer more compactness due to relatively less differences in players' mentalities, while the opposite is true for more structured systems. I also understand that even within a more structured system you can still make the team be more compact by using formations in which players are deployed in at least three successive strata (i.e. defense, defensive midfield and midfield), as well as by appropriately assigning roles and duties to the players. Now, let's imagine, purely hypothetically, that I simply have to use the 4-4-2 flat formation because I don't have (enough) players who can occupy DM or WB positions. My team is playing against a far stronger opponent, so I logically choose the Defensive Team Mentality. My primary goal is not to concede (rather than to score). I want my players to sit back as much as possible and defend as a compact unit. But in a flat 4-4-2 combined with a more structured system, even if I put all my four midfielders on Defend duty, the team still wouldn't be compact enough and there will be the space between the defensive and midfield lines that the opposition could exploit - something I certainly want to avoid. And so I decide to switch to a more fluid shape. Now I have the compactness, but on the other hand, my players are given too much creative freedom, and the problem is that they are neither tactically (mentally) nor technically proficient enough for such a style of play. Consequently, I go to Team Instructions and select the Be More Disciplined instruction (plus, optionally, Stick to Positions) in order to reduce the players' overall tendency to be more "creative" than I want them to be. Therefore, we now have this situation: Team Mentality - Defensive Formation - 4-4-2 flat Team Shape - (very) Fluid + Be More Disciplined (and, perhaps, Stick to Positions) My question is: to what extent the Be More Disciplined TI would affect/reduce the players' creative freedom in a more fluid system? Has anyone of you tried to play this way, and if yes, how did it work? Thanks everybody in advance
  4. I’ve read that the games descriptions of mentality and team shape are poorly written. For example that Counter is actually a better mentality for control than control. Is there a thread on here that translates things from the tactical screen, and offers shared observations about instructions, individual instructions, roles etc? I’m quite hungry to expand my playing styles in different careers, as well as learn how to make tactical changes based on the ME and not using real life logic and staring at misunderstood instruction definitions. Also ive seen people make comments such as “the recommended attributes for a position are guidelines only, if you employ a trequarista with strength, stamina and pace you have a completely different animal” Id love to find a thread dedicated to translating and brainstorming player roles also, as I feel there is more to the game than the misleading face value in game descriptions. I have favourite player roles but would like to understand them all.
  5. Hi, I've noticed that the option to man-mark the opposition keeper is no longer available? I don't know when this first occurred but I loaded a new game recently so I assume it's happened after a recent update? I definitely used this tactic previously and not imagining it or wasn't on an old FM! Why was this taken out?
  6. Hi all, Why can't you get your forwards to man-mark the opposition keeper in the player instructions screen anymore? This is something I used to do on occasion when tactically required. It was definitively on this FM and not a previous one. E.G I would ask Kane to man-mark the keeper so to apply the pressure with any pass-backs or for corners etc. I don't know if this is since an update or whatever?
  7. I have been reading a few similarly themed threads of late around TIs and PIs and have learned a lot about how different instructions interact and that less can be better at times as the roles/duties are the most important aspect of determining how successful a tactic is. It would appear that I have been making the same mistakes since this new interface was introduced. For PIs, if a player can't dribble or be effective from long shots, I would automatically set their PI to do it less and for TIs I would have maybe 8 or 9 set thinking that was how you 'refine' your tactic. I guess the question I'm asking from this thread is do you guys alter PIs based on individuals attributes or do you set them based on tactic requirements? E.g if your tactic is based on your team pushing up and putting a lot of crosses for a big target man but your full/wing backs have a low crossing rating, would you still have them cross the ball with the thinking your target man will eventually receive a good ball to attack or would you select 'cross less' and look for other ways to create chances? Such as keeping full backs back and having wingers on a more attacking duty.
  8. Hello everyone, these bugs just started appearing overtime everything was fine the first couple of seasons, but then... ... Here is my description of what is happening, im pretty sure that clearing the apps date should work, im just afraid i'd lose my saves So i'm a few seasons into the game (2025)... First bug to appear was with the news, you know how when you get some types of news, lets say some club makes an offer on one of your players, on the bottom of that notification you have a couple of links, for the team who made the offer, your own team and the player in question; so for me these links disappeared, well they are still there but the buttons are gone, i can blindly tap the bottom of the notification and i get sent to the pages, but the buttons are not there, this is sort of annoying but the next bug is far more annoying; ok so you know how you can set up roles for each player, for example a player playing as a central midfielder can have (one of) many roles (deep lying playmaker, BWM, CM ... ETC) so i set all these roles for everyone in my team, i set the team instructions (for example, attacking, mixed, both flanks, etc) i set the primary outlet and attacker and i go into the game, and the roles get all messed up, they are no where near what i set up before, the rest of the team instructions are fine, but not the roles. so, im pretty sure that clearing all game data or even reinstalling should fix this, i just need some guidance on how to keep my saves safe! Thanks! PS: another thing that seems to get messed up is the assignments, corners and free kicks, at least i get central defenders taking corners and even my forward with best aerial ability sometimes! definitely not my intention!!
  9. Let's say you examine your team and come up with an idea what are your best players and how do you want to play. For instance, best players of my current team are a quick and skillful winger (AML) and a target man (ST). So I develop a formation (formations) that include best uses of those players I can come up with and I basically build the tactics around those 2 guys. Recetly I found this article on the web: http://www.guidetofootballmanager.com/tactics/tactical-styles It's kind of appealing, but do you find it any good? What do you do regarding TI's after you identify your best assets? How do you adapt width and other settings? For instance: building the team aroung a target man > play narrower? around a winger > play wider? Thanks!
