  1. Evening all. After the death of my Inverness/Sunderland thread, I'm heading back to a part of the world I love playing FM in. Scandinavia was the destination for my favourite ever save so it seems a good place to revisit, only this time I'm heading to Sweden. (I did have an attempt at this club a couple of years ago, but I got distracted by the bright lights of the Eredivisie after five years - that isn't going to happen this time.) I ideally wanted to move on from FM13, but I'm still struggling for the amount of time it would take to get started on a new version thanks to family and work life. I can play 13 in the 30-60 minute chunks that I find during the week, so I'll stick with the retro life. Sorry, gang. As I've said before, Just for the record I'm no Liverpool fan (Notts County are my team) but of all the "great" managers of the past Shankly is perhaps the one I most admire and so he's the one I'd like to emulate. For those who don't know, when Shankly arrived at Anfield in 1959, Liverpool had been floating around in the Second Division for five years, yet in his time there he transformed them from top to bottom. Although he only won three league titles in his time, it was his work building the foundations of the club that enabled them to go on and dominate English and European football. I'd like to do the same in Sweden, and ultimately become the biggest club in the world. That's ambitious. Why Scandinavia in general, and Sweden in particular? The reason I enjoy playing in Sweden and Norway is the leagues are restrictive in terms of player registration. Both contain strict rules forcing me to use and develop homegrown players. In Norway, 16 of your 25 man squad must be homegrown, while in Sweden you must select 9 homegrown players in every 18 man match day squad. Now I have no self control in the transfer market (ohh, shiny!) so I can never commit to using just homegrown players in a save, or to just develop my own in a youth challenge as many of you like to do, but when the league forces me into developing players, I really enjoy that side of the game. It often means later on in the save that my signings are no older than 18 years of age, simply because they can become homegrown. Another reason for playing in this part of the word is there is a relatively low amount of TV and prize money, so even when or if the club is a European regular, we still have to sell players to ensure the club doesn't get into financial difficulties. I'll be playing in Sweden this time as I've already achieved my goal with a Norwegian club, so it seems right to cross the border. So what happens if you get sacked? Hopefully I can avoid that fate, but if it does happen, I'll find another job in Sweden and keep going. Game details: Belarus, Denmark, Finland ((2nd tier and above in all) France, Germany, Norway (3rd tier and above) & Sweden (4th tier and above) FM13.3 with no edits Large database, 31,000 players Start date: January 2013 Meet the manager: 32 year old Johann Andersson is the man in the hotseat. The Swede spent most of his playing career in the lower leagues of Norway and Sweden before a career-ending knee injury around his 30th birthday, but he hopes to make more of a splash at a higher level from the dug-out.
  2. Hi folks, After falling out of love with the series for a while, I've got back into things with FM2019 and am currently contemplating creating a new retro update for a season in the 90's. However, I still have a soft spot for the older games in the series and am interested in doing a modern update for my personal fave in the entire series, FM2008. Hence this initial topic to just gauge if theres any interest for this?
  3. A very large edit to this opening post for those who followed previously. If you haven't read this thread before, feel free to ignore this bold section. When I got a new laptop for Christmas, I thought this save (and FM13) was done. Unfortunately, family life has prevented me from having the solid chunk of time I'd need to get stuck into a new career on a newer version, so I've had to go back to FM13 for a fix of the game as having an established career allows me to play for 30 minute chunks here and there. However, the Roma version didn't make the transfer from the old laptop, so I'm back to Scotland which I'll explain further down. The things you do for FM, right? Evening all My last attempt at a new thread (previous threads here and here) crashed and burned in record time after I prematurely thought I'd be able find time to play following the arrival of mini-Withnail number 2. However, over the last couple of weeks I've found time to watch the entire back catalogue of Breaking Bad (for the first time... I know, I know. Don't judge me.) so I figure I'm clear to come back! That means I've got lots of reading to do of all of your threads, but I shall get to that... Anyway, some of you will be aware of this: An infamous headline after the club I've selected to manage beat John Barnes' Celtic side in the Scottish Cup back in 2000. You may not be aware however that the headline had been used before, in the late 70s, in Liverpool's local newspaper after an outstanding Ian Callaghan performance ("Super Calley Goes Ballistic, QPR Atrocious.") Enough, Withnail. What's the objective of the save? EDIT: The original plan was to stay in Scotland and put Celtic to the sword initially, then grind both the Glasgow giants into the dirt for years to come before having a crack at Europe. However, I decided later on that I was ready for a move, hence the (EDIT again) now deleted second chapter. If the right move comes up though I will move on, especially now I have a more powerful laptop. The details FM13.3 with no edits. Leagues loaded from England (BSP & above) Scotland (Third Division & above) Germany (Third Division & above) France (National & above) Norway (2nd tier & above) Sweden (2nd tier & above. Medium database, 25,000 players. The manager 32 year old Johann Andersson is the man in the hotseat. The Swede spent most of his playing career in the lower reaches of Scottish football before a knee injury prematurely ended his career.
  4. BSC Old Boys' Elderly Care Center Greetings! I have been silently lurking on these forums for many years now, and I particularly enjoyed reading numerous career updates, which have kept me away from playing... until now. Since I have given up on my self-imposed exile from the game, might as well share my progress here. This save is one I have tried many times before - often with crushing failure. Let's see if I can fare better this time around. The Challenge Only players that are 31 years old or older can play. This means no youth academy products, nor current players in the squad that are younger than the age limit. The rule applies to competitive games, thus friendlies are open to trials of younger players. I can sign any player, even if younger than 31 - they'll simply have to wait. The challenge adds financial difficulties since it will not be possible to nurture talent and make a profit - development will be solely linked to results on the pitch. Credits to @Braumiller and his Dad's Army FM14 Challenge for being the inspiration behind this save. The Club It seemed fitting to take on this challenge with Basler Sportclub Old Boys, not only due to the name but also for having the old versus young heads-up against Young Boys Bern. The club is rather unknown in Switzerland. Eren Derdiyok and Breel Embolo have played in Old Boys' youth teams in the past, and I'll try to bring the former back one day (the latter is not in-game). The Save I am playing this with FM13, with only the first two divisions in Switzerland loaded. That is all my poor old laptop can handle I'm afraid. I went on holiday for a season, waiting for Old Boys to come up into the Swiss second division, Challenge League. The manager will be the 34 years old Swiss-American, semi-professional former player Stefan Heppke. As an avid follower of the MLS, I'll use my knowledge to bring some of the players to Switzerland. What are the expectations? Narrow tactics and emphasis on short passes to keep possession and preserve bodies, but ultimately see playing staff outpaced and suffering numerous injuries; Continuous transfer season all year long in a hurry to improve the squad, with a few familiar faces along the way; A need to get promoted to the Super League asap, and thus leaving the financial pitfall that is the second division; Many years of survival and mediocrity, with the hope of one day reaching some sort of glory.
  5. Hi, I'm looking for a skin that has that wonderful pre 2007 vibe. I don't suppose it currently exist out there? Obviously I'm stuck in the past, but I'd so love to recall the old school vibe, in a 2018 game, whatever it takes.... Hopefully there's a kind soul who know what I'm talking about... If it does not exist, and on the off chance, that someone might be willing to create it, I'll be happy to assist. Hope for some help....
  6. If there was a database available, what year would take your interest?
  7. OK, so I'm back, and this time with something very, very different! The Challenge I've removed every single team from their current division in the English Leagues, and recreated the divisions as follows: The Premier League has been reduced to 12 teams (as the Football League was in 1888-89), and the original 12 teams have been placed there instead, with Accrington Stanley replacing the original Accrington FC I've then inserted every other team that has ever played in the English League (and still exists), in order of when they first appeared in the Football League, and put them into divisions of 24 for the Championship, Leagues 1 and 2, and the remaining 37 clubs go into the National League, as I couldn't find a way to create another division below it. Here are what the other divisions look like
  8. Hi everyone, I had been looking on various FM community sites like FM Scout and FM Base, and I was quite shocked to see that no-one had made a retro kit pack. I am currently making an English all divisions kit pack and starting on a French one. If anyone thinks that this is a good idea, then please vote in the poll. If you have a different idea, then just comment it. I also thought of making an alternate Premier League kit pack, which is the Premier League kits, but in a different design pattern and different colours for away and third kit. Let me know what you think by voting in the poll. Thanks, cpfcmadone
