  1. Hi everyone. I'm an unpublished author who suffers frequently with writers block, when I suffer with writers block I play football manager (no I've not got through 10 seasons yet!) I'm sat here at work on my night shift yet again unable to coax any words out for my novel. A thought hit me, is there a place where people write about FM, basically can I combine my two passions together (because regaling my wife, friend and in laws regarding my management success does not seem to interest them!) The answer it appears is yes, there aren't just career threads but a fiction forum as well! Fantastic. I intend to keep my fictional writing to my novel so I've chosen this forum to entertain you all with the ups and downs of my management career. I have come to this decision later than is maybe conventional? I am at the start of my 2nd season, but the journey I went on in my first season was so enjoyable (which inspired me to want to write about it) that I will treat you to a trip back through time. This will either get my creative juices flowing and be a roaring success, or turn out to be frustrating procrastination and die in a fire. Is your breath as bated as mine?
  2. Welcome, welcome. After breaking my promise of not deleting my last career, I decided that it would not be worth it to constantly make different topics only to remove them afterwards. This here will be a log of all careers I do on FM18, before I might update to FM19. So, what I did first was be inspired by @ashton321's idea of starting in a predetermined country at a predetermined club, decided by randomness. Of course others had done it before but it sounded more appealing this time around than it did before. No Megapack or anything, I love it's expansiveness but some leagues aren't that great and the boards can be iffy to work with. I ended up here, in the second league of Colombia, at none other than Orsomarso Sportivo Clube. Being founded only 6 years ago and having their debut in the Torneo Águila in 2016, we have a relatively clean sheet to work with. We've been met with the task to finish mid-table, my players want me to reach top half and I hope to be better than in our debut season. To accomondate, i've enabled all South American leagues, which totals to about 34000 players in a large database. The box 'add players to playable teams' remains unticked because I feel it's unneeded in the default database. Every other league is enabled as view-only as per the new standard. We have a silly amount of solid strikers but a considerable lack of defenders. To compensate, we've loaned in Julián Guerrero from Fortaleza and Jesús Varona from América de Cali. Speaking of América de Cali, they are our opponents for the first match of the Copa Águila, the Champions League-like tournament for all clubs of the Colombian First and Second Division. We face another Liga team in Cortuluá and finally perennial Torneo strugglers Atlético. I think 3rd should be a realistic aim. Since i've only decided on making an update thread on this late on, here are the friendly results. And boy, we were brilliant! After a mediocre start against Tolima Real everyone else got smacked. The two latter matches were especially noteworthy. Against River Plate, Walther Valencia managed to score a hat-trick on his own birthday! Despite it being lower league opposition I think it's still a nice present. Against Deportivo Wembley... ...an image can do the talking. You better brace yourself, Colombia. We're coming. One question: If you enable, then disable a league that was originally view-only, does it revert to it or become disabled in it's entirety?
  3. I thought i'd share my progress on the standard kits for all 20 premier league teams i've been trying to create. I wasn't happy with any of the other kits packs out there as i didn't think they were close enough to the licensed in game kits already available. I've managed to create all kits except for the Puma ones which are coming. I wanted to get feedback to see how keen people are for me to finish these? I'm also happy to share my design files (when i'm done) with the community so they can use these to create other leagues that are also missing, due to the licensing.
  4. This is the first game of Football Manager 2019 that I've played (I got the game at Christmas) and I'm playing with a friend, who swapped Middlesbrough into the Premier League in the place of Huddersfield. I've played FM18 a bit and did a similar save over the summer with more success. However, with a slightly different squad and different signings, tactics and opposition, I've encountered significantly more problems. My team generally creates a lot of chances and I have one of the highest chances / game ratios in the league. I made significantly more attacking signings than defensive signings but this is a defence that conceded less than 1 a game over the first 20 in the Championship this real-life season, so I figured that it shouldn't be too leaky. Attack wise, I brought in Josh King for £20m and Collin Quaner for £8m who are good goalscorers yet appear to be missing lots and lots of chances. At the back I signed Bilbao's Inigo Lekue who has proved extremely useful in an attacking WB spot, but not so well defensively. Otherwise, I signed winger Georges-Kévin Nkoudou for LW and Michel Vorm for GK. This has left me with 5 points from a possible 39. I've attached the tactic I used, a 5-4-1 formation with relatively attacking wing-backs. Originally, I was using a lot of different tactics, foolishly trying to desperately find a system that worked and I ended up shipping a lot of goals. However, following back-to-back points against the top 6 I was feeling hopeful. Sadly, in the next few games the 4-2-4 system I was using failed against more level opponents as I was creating very little. I've stuck to the attached system after my performances have improved but I still cannot pick up any points. I've tried moving about my line of engagement but if I bring it too far down, I cannot score a goal but if I put it further up, opposition AMs roam freely in the gap. My team has been saddled with injuries but I strongly believe nothing would have changed if they'd been fit. Is there any way I should tweak my tactics, completely overhaul them or just persevere with what I've got? Should I be playing more defensively or more attacking i.e. play to my strengths or protect my weaknesses? Were my signings a poor decision and who should I look at in the January transfer window (the date is 28th November).
  5. Newcastle United Welcome to the FM18 thread for Newcastle United. If you're looking for the thread for previous versions follow the link for FM17 and FM16. After a season in the EFL Championship, Newcastle United are back into the Premier League, back where they belong. A successful season, albeit with some surprises and stutters, managing to lift the title on the final day of the season! Champions! Back into the Premier League Over the next few posts, I'll try to cover the squad, tactics, and transfer targets, and some other stuff that I think will be useful. I'll try not to bore you guys too much! Nicknames; The Magpies, Toon Army Ground ; St James' Park, 52,404 Capacity A stunning stadium, if I do say so myself! Newcastle United Football Club (often abbreviated to NUFC) is an English professional association football club based in Newcastle upon Tyne. The club was founded in 1892 by the merger of Newcastle East End and Newcastle West End, and has played at its current home ground, St James' Park, ever since. The ground was developed into an all-seater stadium in the mid-1990s and now has a capacity of 52,405. The club has been a member of the Premier League for all but three years of the competition's history, and has never dropped below English football's second tier since joining the Football League in 1893. The club has been owned by Mike Ashley since 2007, succeeding long term chairman and owner Sir John Hall. They have won for League Championship titles, 6 FA Cups, and a Charity Shield, as well as the 1969 Inter-Cities Fairs Cup, and the 2006 UEFA Intertoto Cup. Newcastle United has the ninth highest total of trophies won by an English club. The club's most successful era was between 1904 and 1910, where they won three of their First Division titles, and an FA Cup. The club is the 17th richest in the world in terms of annual revenue, generating €169.3m in 2015. Historically the club's highest ranking on that list was in 1999, when they were ranked as the 5th richest, and second in England only to Manchester United. The club were highly successful in the Premier League in the 1990s and early 2000s, but have been mostly struggling since the 2006-07 season, and have been relegated twice, in 2009 and 2016. They have a fierce local rivalry with Sunderland, and the two clubs have engaged in the Tyne–Wear derby since 1898. The club's traditional kit colours are black and white striped shirts, black shorts and black socks. Their traditional crest takes elements of the city coat of arms, which features two grey seahorses. Here are our lovely kits for this season. The black and gold is my personal favourite;
  6. I'm playing as Arsenal manager and I've noticed that all my Premier League pre-match analysis reports have the team I'm about to face as having played Tottenham in their last game. I then checked the fixture schedules for Tottenham and Arsenal, as sure enough we play every team straight after Tottenham do right up until the match before we play them, which is right at the end of December. This is obviously not a major issue, but it shouldn't happen.
  7. Hi guys, currently I have been playing two games (with Real Madris in spanish league, and Tottenham in English Premier League). My question is, how do I make my players available for my first team while they are also available for the backup teams? I am aware that in spain your backup team is considered a seperate team to you, while in England it is not a seperate team. Below are the teams I am talking about Tottenham, Tottenham Under 23s & Tottenham Under 18s Real Madrid, Real Madrid B & Real Madrid Under 19s Generally I do not get problems with the two youth teams (Real Madrid under 19 and Tottenham under 18). But I do get problems with the Under 23s team and the Real Madrid B team. For example, I have players in my Real Madrid B team registered for the B team. I also want to register some of them to be able to play in the first team, not many maybe only 2 or 3 as backup. Now when I need these players in my first team maybe I only need them for 1 or 2 games, I play them and then they are sent to my First team and automatically removed from my B team squad registration. In the past there was times when I could not even play them because the B team had a match on the same day, but I have now taken over the B team to prevent that happening. Also sometimes I have players in my first team who are not playing matches recently and I want to try make them keep fitness. I set them on Available for B team but these players are not eligible to play in B team. It says they are not registered. A similar thing in my Tottenham team happens, when I make some first team players available for under 23s or under 18s it says they are too old and not eligible to play. Sorry if this post sounds confusing I tried to word it in a way that you will understand. I often read in real life when players return from long injury they play in B team or reserve team and I have heard this about playrs age over 23. This is the kind of thing I want to do. I want some of my players in my first team available to play for the B team or the under 23s team if they are losing match fitness. And I want my B team players to be available for my first team when I need them. I'm not sure if I am making a mistake by registering some of these players for two teams (Real Madrid & Real Madrid B). I don't get that problem in Tottenham as there is no registration for Tottenham under 23s. I've tried everything I can think of. To register them for only first team, to register them for only B team and to register them for both. But it just doesn't work how I want it to, there will always come a time when one of my B team players is not available for either B team or First team. Currently what I am doing as a work around is using the editor to help me to make players available for my first team who are in these backup teams and vice versa. I have set my squad registration to be allowed to be changed anytime with editor. Any help or advice you can give will be appreciated. Thanks
  8. Hi all, currently at my fourth club in Derby County. Started off with Rangers winning two top flight titles, a Scottish Cup and last 8 of CL. Moved to Newcastle and they were full of Gary Cahill's and Davy Klaasens and couldn't get them going at all so left after eight games before going to Preston which was another sinking ship. Pulled up at Derby who weren't expected to reach the play-offs and romped to the title with a net spend of about £1million which was good. Now moving into the PL and have got rid of the poorer players who were on the fringes and wouldn't make the cut and have signed up John McGinn who I had on loan along with another loanee on a permanent deal in Reece James from Chelsea, as well as James Tavernier after he also impressed on loan. Want to add quality but need players who can help me continue the momentum. Any tips encouraged.

  11. Despite having one of the smallest budgets in the Championship, Sean Dyche once again worked wonders with Burnley FC, leading them to promotion in the 2015/2016 season. However, keeping them in the Premier League will be one of the biggest challenges in football, and that challenge now falls to the inexperienced Joey Baldwin, a shock replacement for Dyche in the summer of 2016. The first transfer window is disabled so for the first half of the season Baldwin is laboured with the squad he inherited from Dyche. However, the spine of the team is perfectly adequate: Heaton in goal, Keane at the back, Defour and Hendrick in the middle with Vokes and Gray the main attacking options. Jon Flanagan is the first choice right-back, Ben Mee plays on the left behind George Boyd while Hendrick and Defour are partnered by Dean Marney in a midfield three. Gudmundsson and Arfield are the right-mid options, while Bamford is also hoping to make an impression while Ashley Barnes recovers from a lengthy hamstring injury. The media are predicting a 19th place finish for the club, and have given Burnley odds of 1000-1 to win the league. The board expect the club to avoid relegation, but that will be a significant challenge, especially given that the first seven fixtures in the league include trips to Old Trafford, Anfield, White Hart Lane and the Kingpower Stadium, with Arsenal and Everton visiting Turf Moor. It could be a very difficult start to life in football management for Joey Baldwin...
  12. ★★★Welcome to the FM17 Southampton FC Thread ★★★ Southampton FC club logo - Nicknamed The Saints, they currently play their football in England's top tier. ★Introduction★ The Saints experienced yet another summer of upheaval and change ahead of their 2016/17 season in the Premier League. It is now the third successive season that departures of key players and managers have hampered preparations ahead of a new campaign, and while the Liebherr family, Ralph Krueger and Les Reed have answered critics in the past many will begin to wonder whether this is the season the Saints will feel the strain Southampton finished the 15/16 season with a highest ever league position finish & securing European football at St. Marys for next season. A fantastic season lading in 6th place and ending just 3 points away from securing Champions League football. Despite this, it was not enough to keep hold of manager Ronald Koeman who moved to an under performing Everton team, along with key players Sadio Mane, Victor Wanyama & Graziano Pelle moving on to pastures new. Enter center stage, Claude Puel. The new manager is somewhat an unknown quantity in England, but having had success in Ligue 1 in France with spells at Lyon & Monaco and more recently having taken Nice into Europe by playing some of the most attractive football in the league, he certainly has the CV to back his new position. Getting the best of Hatem Ben Arfa is no small feat in itself. Balancing the demands of domestic and European football will not be straightforward and Southampton will not want to spread themselves too thin. The combination of a new manager, a heavy workload and rivals hoping to overtake them presents them with a daunting challenge; simply standing still would be a fine achievement. But do not be shocked if the Saints surprise again! ★Who Are Southampton?★ Southampton Football Club are a professional club based in the city of Southampton, Hampshire and compete in the top flight of English football, the Premier League. Nicknamed the Saints, they play their home games at St Mary's Stadium, before which they were based at The Dell. In 2001 the move from the Dell to the new St Mary's Stadium was something of a spiritual homecoming for Southampton Football Club. The club has won the FA Cup once in 1976 and its highest ever league finish was in the old First Division, finishing second place in 1983/84. The Saints were relegated from the Premier League in 2005 ending 27 successive seasons of top flight football for the club. Led by the Liebherr family with club legend Markus Liebherr at the helm, the owners appointed an ex Scunthorpe physio as manager who led the club to successive promotions and back into the Premier league after a 7 years absence. Markus Liebherr rescued Southampton from financial ruin. Markus sadly passed away August 2010. The time away from the Premier League was arguably the most difficult in Southampton's history. Riddled with financial mis-management the club plummeted to the depths of League One with a -10 point penalty. Thanks to the generosity and love of the Liebherr family, a world renowned youth academy responsible for producing the likes of Gareth Bale, The Walcott, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain & Adam Lallana to name a few and the appointment of Nigel Adkins as a manager the club eventually climbed back to the Premier League. ★History★ The team that play in red and white today can trace their roots back to the club formed in 1885 by members of St. Mary's Church Young Men's association who played their football on the banks of the Itchen for 13 years before moving on. Originally called Southampton St. Mary's, the club joined the Southern League in 1894 and won the championship for three years running between 1897 and 1899 and again in 1901, 1903 and 1904. That success spanned some major changes for the Saints as they moved to a newly built £10,000 stadium called The Dell in 1898. Although they would spend the next 103 years there, the future was far from certain in those early days and the club had to rent the premises first before they could stump up the cash to buy the stadium outright in the early part of the next century. The dream of Division 1 football at The Dell for the first time was finally realised in 1966 when Ted Bates' team were promoted as runners-up. It was a never-to-be-forgotten achievement. The most memorable day in Southampton Football Club's history came in 1976 when the Second Division side, managed by Lawrie McMenemy, won the FA Cup for the first time with a sensational 1-0 victory at Wembley over odds-on favourites Manchester United. In 1978 Saints gained promotion back to Division 1 and a year later they were back at Wembley, losing 3-2 to Nottingham Forest in the League Cup Final. Alan Ball was in the Saints team, one of several star names to join the club. The signing of Kevin Keegan, twice European Footballer of the Year, from Hamburg, was a masterstroke by McMenemy, a move which stunned the football world and one that was followed in the 1983/84 season by the most successful campaign in the club's history. With the great Peter Shilton in goal they finished runners-up to Liverpool in the league and reached the FA Cup semi-finals, losing to Everton in extra time. Saints emerged as one of the country's most entertaining teams as second top scorers in the First Division with 71 strikes in their goals for column. Matthew Le Tissier, 24-goal leading scorer, was named PFA Young Player of the Year with strike partner Rodney Wallace in second place. Matthew Le Tissier scored over 100 goals for The Saints. He now works as a TV Pundit for Sky Sports News A turbulent start to the 21st century meant manager Harry Redknapp was unable to halt the decline despite bringing in five new players during the January transfer window and, after a 27-year stay in the top flight, Saints were relegated on the final day of the 2004/05 season. They lost 2-1 at home to Manchester United to finish bottom of the Premier League. The Club was virtually on its knees as administration lingered over Saints for the early part of the summer in 2009. The positive news that everyone had been waiting for finally arrived however, when Nicola Cortese, a man who had built his reputation in Swiss finance, introduced German businessman Markus Liebherr to the idea of buying the Club. The Saints were launched upwards securing successive promotions back the Premier League where they remain today.

  14. Hi! With my current save, my MK Dons side has hit form at the perfect time and it looks like we could potentially make the automatic promotion spots to the holy land that is the Premier League (PL). However, the average age of my squad is 24 and solely made up of Championship quality players and youngsters with high potential. In case we get promoted, I need to have a shortlist of experienced PL players to look at to help boost the experience levels for the PL. Is there a way to filter player searches by Competition Appearances? So far all I can find is the option to filter Domestic competition appearances such as FA Cup, League Cup etc... but no Domestic Leagues. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
  15. Anyone know why Leicester City's unrealistic budget isn't that good? I only get the budget of lowly £185k EDIT: Resolved I disabled the first transfer window budget for the first season please close this
  16. Here's my formation, roles and main squad: southampton Here's my team instruction: instructions So guys, i'm into my third season with Southampton, so far so good, i won PL+FA Cup on my first year, and i won all of the trophies (5) on the second season including CL, and my squad is based on 17.3.1 update so yeah there's Gabbiadini and i also managed to get Gary Cahill and Moussa Dembele (Frenchman striker not the Belgian midfielder) on my first season so there's maybe not too much changes on my Soton squad. And i've been playing with 2 tactics (the other one is 424 Wide with Winger) and 4123 (Inside forwards) being my main tactic, well i'm wondering if there's any advice or tips which can be applied to my 4123 tactic since it's sometimes inconsistent with chances (too much long shots, and struggling when facing defensive team) I've succeeded (luckily) on winning trophies but i don't believe in "dont fix it if it isn't broken", i believe that changes are needed to be made because i won't spend big on transfer windows like other PL clubs so i'm looking for any "tweaks" which maybe can help my tactic becomes more effective in the next season. Here's my result from the past 2 seasons My first season: 30W 4D 3L 72 goals 10 conceded. My 2nd season: 2nd season table I'd like to play possession+attacking football but also taking caution in the defending because i really avoid being conceded more than any teams on the table . And somehow i really need those advice from more experienced FM player like you guys because i just love to learn something "new" about the game and also if there is any tactical principality that maybe i've quite misunderstood on this game because i need to maximize the effectiveness of my tactic and my players. Are there: any player roles needed to be changed? team instruction to add/remove? any player instruction to add? or any of your insight on how to improve this tactic! Thank you
  17. I've decided that as an Everton fan enough is enough and I can't watch Big Sam ruin us anymore, so I've decided to start as Everton on the latest patch. Board Objectives for 2017/18: Top half finish Personal Objectives for 2017/18: Top 7 and stay in the fight for top 6 as long as I can Friendlies Pre-season was a success as we remained unbeaten with our seven games, winning 6 and drawing once. AGF 1-3 Everton (Pusic 74 : Vlasic 18, 30 OG 35) Everton 1-1 FC Viktoria Plzeň (Rooney 77 : Kovarik 49) Everton 4-3 Sparta Praha (Calvert-Lewin 9, 45, Tosun 24, 50 : Julius 49, Albiach 51, Plavsic 74) Southport 0-2 Everton (Vlasic 65, OG 74) Cambridge Utd 1-5 Everton (Ibehre 46 : Calvert-Lewin 1, 7, 47, Jagielka 32, Rooney 77) Notts County 0-3 Everton (Tosun 43, 47, Calvert-Lewin 45+2) Tranmere 0-4 Everton (Calvert-Lewin 2, Davies 11, Tosun 21, Gueye 90) Transfers Decided to add some depth to the squad in this window and try and ship out some of the deadwood. Pirlo came in on a free to add some experience and to add a winning presence in the dressing room. Darmian was signed on loan to provide cover for both flanks in defense - option to buy at the end of the season. McGinn was signed to rotate in the midfield with Davies. On the way out permanently was Williams as there was just no space for him in my vision for the club so was happy to have his wages off the books. All the rest were loan signings to either get some first team experience, however Niasse and Schneiderlin were up for sale with no takers so have been loaned out to save some wages. I hope you will join me for the journey.
  18. Hi I wish to change the rules on some competitions for a separate database, ie: no longer 3 points for a win type of thing or abolish extra time. Is there a way to do this. If I have to rebuild a league I don't mind, but I want to know how to do that then and if all these rule changes are possible. Thanks

  20. Hello All, So recently I decided to record some youtube content about Football Manager. I created a series last year called To The Prem which followed me through the lowers leagues in my quest to get a non-league team to the Premier League. Since I took part in the FMWEC tournament, I decided I would start up again my To The Prem series. We are currently in Episode 3 I hope you enjoy. I also have other FM content on my YouTube so please give my video's a like and subscribe to my channel and I hope you enjoy my series https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SmRU3vyLttg&index=3&t=0s&list=PLDnv4ynWO6HlgmWoGWhcs4OA9YoDHaSsj
  21. World League Challenge (V0.1) Which League are the strongest league in the world? Thats a question many Football fans debats all the time. But with this database you might going to get the answer. What if every league got the chance to pick a all-star team, with both stars and talent, who would win the first season, and who would stand the test of time? V0.1 - V0.1 is a early beta version of the database. - Its only released for getting input to make it as good as possible - Only the 20 best league has been put in the database for now - Cups are not up for running jet. - Finans is not fully up and running FAQ 1: How many players is there in every team? 2 senior + 2 young: GK, DL, DR, DMC, OMR, OMC, OML 4 senior + 4 young: DC, MC, FW 2: Why is player X not on the team, he is way better than player Y? All seniors are pick by the highest CA, and all young are pick by the highest PA. So don't blame the creator, blame SI! 3: Which stadium do the team play on? Fore the most the teams plays on the national arena, also they play in the national kits. 4: Why does Premier League only have the 3rd best reputation? I took the team with the highest reputation in the league, and made it into the league team, deleting all the history. In the beginning its also the club teams staff the runs the league team. 5:How many division will the final version have? As for now I'm going after 3 division, and maybe an other structure where there will be 2nd teams of each countries. 6: Why can't I buy any Players? I Banned the transfer windows for the first year, so its only players in the league that play against each other. Maybe I wil banned even more season, what do you think? 7: Where does the regens from each team come from? Every team is based in its own country, so the regens should mostly be with the same nationality as where their are based. Link: Mediafire - V01
  22. Thanks!
  23. June 2011 and Exeter City surprisingly replace Paul Tisdale with unknown rookie Matt Oswin The first season for the new manager results in the 40/1 outsiders winning the league. Exeter spend three average seasons in the Championship before making the play-offs in their fourth, but Newcastle prove too strong over two legs. Just. The play-offs are avoided the following season and Exeter get promoted as runners-up. Early season form is patchy, but the capacity at St. James Park has been expanded. Join Exeter's adventure in the Premier League as they play their first game at their expanded home against Sunderland... https://matthewoswin.wordpress.com/2017/10/22/but-this-ground-goes-up-to-12-k/
