  1. Summary: Players, especially wingers and wing backs, are often brought into crossing positions but won't give them for no apparent reason Description of Issue: (Wide) players won't give any, or very few, crosses into the box. Even when there are 3-4 of our own players in the box, the ball is not coming. Instead, the player passes back or dribbles across the touchline. Only when crossing TI's & PI's are all activated, will we see crosses and chances from them. This mainly goes for wide players such as wingers, IF's, and wing-backs. But also players who roam from their position and find themselves in a crossing opportunity will not or rarely cross. I am aware that roles such as IF are not encouraged to cross, but I didn't change anything in my approach in roles compared to previous editions of the game where crossing wasn't a problem. On top of that, crossing has always been a huge part of my tactics and this is the first year that I encounter this issue. Steps to Reproduce: Watch the saved matches uploaded to OwnCloud. One with extra crossing PI's and TI's on, one without, hence the title of the matches. Files Uploaded to the OwnCloud: Two PKM's (KAS Eupen v KRC Genk no crosses TI & PI.pkm and KAS Eupen v KRC Genk.pkm) and one save game (KRC Genk.fm). EDIT: uploaded the PKM's here as well. In the PKM's: I left out the situations where crosses weren't given when it corresponds even remotely with my tactics. In the match without crosses TI & PI: 00:20: Maehle is played out on the right side. Goes for an unrealistic shot instead of a cross. Blocked. 02:00: Bongonda finds Uronen on the left side in a crossing position. No cross. 02:20: Heynen finds Uronen on the left side in a crossing position. No cross. 02:40: A throw-in eventually makes its way to Nygren who is in a crossing position. No cross. 10:57: Heynen plays to Uronen on the left side in a crossing position. No cross. 26:20: Nygren makes his way down the right flank. Three players joined on the break and made their way to the box, as told by the tactic and their roles. No cross. 28:15: Mæhle is played out on the right side in crossing positions several times. No crosses. 37:20: Mæhle is played out on the right side in a crossing position. Instead, plays a back pass of 40 meters towards the defence. 40:45: Mæhle is liberated on the right side in a crossing position. No cross. 41:14: Mæhle dribbles himself to a crossing position. No cross. 44:30: Nygren plays out Mæhle on the right side in a crossing position. No cross, keeps dwelling on the ball and is fouled. 55:45: Uronen is played out on the left in a crossing position. No cross. 60:00: Hagi gets the ball on the edge of the box after a deflected free kick. The majority of players are in the box. He keeps dribbling and shoots from an impossible angle when he's on the touchline. 73:10: Mæhle in a crossing position on the right. No cross. 90:45: Mæhle in a crossing position on the right. No cross. And these are only the obvious ones. I've played this team in every version for the past five years and my tactical approach has never been different. I know when they should cross and when not so please don't come and blame it on 'Play for set pieces' or 'Work ball into the box'. The other match has all crossing TI's and PI's maxed out, and only then am I seeing more normal crossing behaviour. I will not list up anything from that match since I didn't pay 45 euros to waste my free time in the evening on listing when and if a blue dot crosses or not. 2. Hi all, 2 questions for you. I am currently playing with a fairly standard 4-2-3-1, my tactical knowledge is certainly not fantastic however I was wondering:- is there any preferred player moves that you tend to look for in each player role? (I tend to look for "switch the ball to the opposite flank" and "tries killer balls often" for my playmakers, and moves like "cuts in from the left", "places shots" etc for inside forwards (obviously depending on roles/tactic setup etc). also are there are player instructions that people tend to stick with (again I tend to give wing backs "stay wider" when supporting inside forwards, i give strikers "shoot more often", most of my midfielders tend to have "shoot less often" to encourage passes to players in better positions. I also tend to have central defenders on "close down less" to encourage them to keep their shape and have my midfielders do the hard work in front of them. that said - i am by no means a tactical guru and wondered what everyone else tends to do?
  3. HI I was just wondering... you set player instruction to like every player to play to there strengths.. I've never really bothered. But for those of you that do. Do you set instructions for EVERY player or just certain ones ? & as for the opsing team do you set certain extrusion your self or leave it to a good assistant manager ? Thanks guys!
  4. In no small part down to the emergence of the trend of a 3-man defence across Europe this season, I believe a revision of the player instructions of DCs may be due. Currently, the Libero is the only role that allows the defender to adopt a midfield position when the team has possession. However, whilst a Libero ventures forward and steps into midfield in possession, he adopts the role of a conventional sweeper in defence - he "drops behind the defensive line, aiming to sweep up through balls, pick up extra attackers and make goal saving tackles, blocks and interceptions. His exceptional athleticism and reading of the game enable him to cover for defensive errors, take possession of loose balls from a deep position and secure possession.". Significantly, this means that in order to play with a central defensive player who steps into midfield when in possession, you are limited to only being able to deploy a Libero - a player who also adopts the deeper role of a sweeper in defensive situations - something which I don't believe is suitable to or realistic of certain systems in today's day and age. Therefore, I think the addition of a 'Get Further Forward' player instruction to Central Defenders and Ball Playing Defenders of all duties would be greatly beneficial. This would allow for greater choice of and control over how the DC acts in the defensive phase - for example, a Ball Playing Defender with the 'Get Further Forward' instruction would act as a Libero would in possession, but as a normal DC would on whatever duty they are deployed as when in the defensive phase. I believe this is only realistic, as not all central defenders who roam into midfield in possession are necessarily sweepers in defence. In basic terms, this would allow for a realistic 'hybrid' of a Libero and Central Defender/Ball Playing Defender that exists in many 3-man defences in 2017 - a defender who ventures forward into midfield in possession, but remains as a DC in defence, rather than a sweeper.
  5. A fairly common tactical idea in a 4-3-3 is the role of the #10 in pressing. Typically, the front 3 will cover/squeeze the four defenders, and the #10 will push in tightly on the opposing #6. At present, when you select an "advanced playmaker" their maximum pressing is capped at "less urgent", even when your tactics are set to the most aggressive pressing options available. It makes it difficult to achieve a fairly standard idea. Here's an example: The 9 and 7 have done their jobs, the 11 is roughly in the right area, however the #10 (despite having tight marking and maximum pressing, never pushes in enough, allowing them to play out easily: A midfielder receives the ball under no pressure. Every 4-3-3 I've played in/coached asked our #10 in midfield to push in tight on the opponent's #6 as their role in the press. If they don't, it's quite easy to play out through the free player. I've tried to work around this by setting my #10 to tightly mark the specific #6, however it is not always this specific in reality. What is meant by "pick up the 6" is that your #10 will simply be tight on the opponent midfielder who drops in to get the ball from their defence.
  6. Couple years into a game, moved to my third club and the in-match player instructions have disappeared. E.g. If i get a yellow card I can't change a players instructions to go easy on tackling. The same happens in match preperation tactics page also. Have i inadvertently changed a setting, or is this a bug?
  7. I have been reading a few similarly themed threads of late around TIs and PIs and have learned a lot about how different instructions interact and that less can be better at times as the roles/duties are the most important aspect of determining how successful a tactic is. It would appear that I have been making the same mistakes since this new interface was introduced. For PIs, if a player can't dribble or be effective from long shots, I would automatically set their PI to do it less and for TIs I would have maybe 8 or 9 set thinking that was how you 'refine' your tactic. I guess the question I'm asking from this thread is do you guys alter PIs based on individuals attributes or do you set them based on tactic requirements? E.g if your tactic is based on your team pushing up and putting a lot of crosses for a big target man but your full/wing backs have a low crossing rating, would you still have them cross the ball with the thinking your target man will eventually receive a good ball to attack or would you select 'cross less' and look for other ways to create chances? Such as keeping full backs back and having wingers on a more attacking duty.
  8. After watching a couple of pre-season games on Full Match highlights I've noticed that one of my Fullbacks (Complete Wing Back role) keeps playing the long ball to my striker, which is not what I am asking him to do. His pass completion rate in the past 2 games has been 48% and 51%, so half of his passes don't meet the intended target. I'm trying to set my team up to play short passing. Team is set up to be STRUCTURED / CONTROL Team Instructions: Closing down: MORE Passing Directness: SHORTER PASSING Passing: PLAY OUT OF DEFENCE Tempo: HIGHER (Could this be the reason for my full back to keep playing it long???) I've checked his individual traits and he doesn't have anything suggesting he prefers to play the long pass. His passing is only rated 9, but I'm a team in League 1, so the players won't have amazing stats. I'm not sure where else I can do to tell him to not play it long and instead play it short to his midfielders, or sideways to a Centre Back etc... Any thoughts? Thanks.
