The United States. Home to the Big Mac, Ford Mustang and now the greatest Alphabised football competition in the World! 26 Cities across this great nation are now hosting a Football (or Soccer if you really must) team whose players' and manger's names each belongs to a corresponding letter of the English Alphabet! From Austin Texas to Zarephath New Jersey, 780 players await the start of the 2017-18 footballing season. How are the Cities and players chosen you ask? Simple, for the Cities, simply the largest City beginning with that letter in the USA is chosen. There is a wild range of city sizes and more importantly stadium sizes in this competition as each team was given the largest stadium in the City. In some cases, this is a mega stadium and other times it's a small college pitch! As for the players: The best 30 players by CA with last names beginning with the correct letter go to the corresponding team. E.g Sergio Aguero plays for A Austin and not S San Antonio. In some cases, the last name isn't obvious or commonly used by the footballer, so ultimately the decider is where they appear alphabetically on the editor first. This may lead to controversy but it's the final way. This leads to Christiano Ronaldo playing for C Chicago and not R Raleigh. Rona Still with me? Here is part one of the season Preview, in Alphabetical order of course! Austin Alphas, Massimilano Allegri Stadium: Tony Burger Center, Austin TX. 15,000 Predicted Starting 11: GK Segio Asenjo DL, David Alaba, DC Toby Alderweild, DC Raul Albiol, DR Cesar Azpilicueta, DM Charles Aranguiz (C), MC Dele Alli, MC Andre Gomes, AML Marco Asensio, AMR Iago Aspas, ST Sergio Aguero Predicted Finishing Position: 6th Allegri certainly has some great players to chose from! The first of many Texas teams, the Alphas have a decent but not spectacular start location, a great manager and potential for a title challenge if all falls into place. A fit Aguero is a dangerous one and he is most certainly their key man. Though Aspas has scored the most goals in a preseason that featured a successful tour of China before wins at home against Indianapolis and Fresno. They did lose to Oklahoma though! The team has weaknesses though. There isn't much to shout about in terms of CB's with Alderweild the only standout. Plus only running the one striker means they might under use Aubumayang who barely featured in the preseason. If Allegri can win it at the Allianz he should have no problem at his new home at Tony Burger. Reason to support the team: Love Paella? Austin has 8 Spanish players on its roster including captain Azpilicueta. Boston Braves, Rafa Benitez Stadium: Paul Revere Field, Boston MA, 22,500 Predicted Starting 11: GK Gianluigi Buffon(C), DL Marc Bartra, DC Jerome Boateng, DC Leonardo Bonucci, DR Hector Bellerin, MC Sergio Busquets MC, Lucas Biglia, AML Gareth Bale, AMC Bernado Silva, AMR Yacinie Brahimi, ST Karim Benzema Predicted Finishing Position: 3rd The northernmost team in the division, a last season hurrah for Buffon and Rafa Benitez back in with a title shout? The bookies seem to think so! They have players that can control the pace of the game and have some devastatingly technical players. The only let down on the squad is their only real left back is Juan Bernat who will miss the first 6 months of the season at least! Bale is the keyman of the team, can he rise to it? Personally I feel the games preseason prediction of 3rd is on the ambitious side but I certainly wouldn't count them out either. Reason to support the team: The final season for one of the all-time greatest goalkeepers. Chicago Conquerors, Antonio Conte Stadium: Soldier Field, Chicago IL. 61,500 Predicted Starting 11: GK Thibaut Courtois, DC Giorgio Chiellini, DC Emre Can, DC Andreas Christensen. WBL Domenico Criscito, WBR Dani Carvajal, MC Casemiro, MC Phillipe Coutinho, AML Chrisiano Ronaldo (C), AMR Kinglsy Coman, ST Edinson Cavani Predicted Finishing Position: 2nd Team Ronaldo. Conte has an interesting mix of experienced super stars and young guns a giant stadium and quality all around. An ubeaten preseason that saw them beat Chealsea will no doubt please Conte and anger the blues! Though as the season dawns there is a big blow to the team as Coutinho has suffered a hip injury that could see him miss 4 months of play! Ronaldo has been playing on the wing so far and it will be interesting to see if he stays there or moves into a more central position. Reason to Support the team: They have CR7, Coman and Cavani as the front 3, Expect Goals! Dallas Determined, Didier Deschamps Stadium, AT&T Stadium Dallas, TX. 105,121 Predicted Starting 11: GK David De Gea, DL Danillo, DC Eric Dier, DC Daniele de Rossi(C), DR Daniel Alves, MC Mousa Dembele MC Kevin de Bruyne, AML Ousmane Dembele, AMR Douglas Costa, ST, Paulo Dybala Predicted Finishing Position: 4th Deschamps has one of the biggest stadiums in the world to fill but the Frenchman certainly has the talent to fill it and the squad to bring the crowds. A no nonsense CB pairing with one of the strongest midfields in the game means this should be a team that is smart on defence and with Dybala and the incredible De Bruyne there should be no shortage of goals either. A somewhat quiet preseason had them only play 2 games against nonleague american sides with the expected comfortable wins. Should be an exciting team to watch. (Next up, part 2 of preseason)
