  1. FM18 All-European (Less England) Small Club to Big Club Challenge Introduction Welcome to a new chapter in the history of the ‘Euro Nation’ Challenge, born out of the recent history of the highly successful Gundo’s Challenge and the Big Euro Nation Challenge that spawned out of it. Originally set up as an alternative to the hugely successful Dafuges Challenge for FM06, Gundos Challenge offered an alternative for people who wanted to play in another European country. The Big Euro Nation Challenge followed for FM08 and, like Gundo’s Challenge, has had some fantastic stories over the years. These threads have always been hugely popular and successful thanks to those who played, and who still take part, in the challenges. Some of the stories are legendary, and hopefully more of these will be born in this, and future, versions of the game. The premise of the challenge is the same, and simple, to start with a previously unplayable club and taking them all the way to a National Title and then on to winning the European Champions League. With a variety of leagues, styles of play, different rules, and many different locations for your clubs there can be a lot of variety throughout the thread, providing a great atmosphere and stories for our users to become immersed in. General Challenge Info Possible Countries Austria Belarus Belgium Bulgaria Croatia Czech Republic Denmark Finland France - June 20th Germany Greece Holland * Hungary Iceland Ireland * Israel Italy - July 30th N. Ireland - 25th June Norway - January 13th Poland Portugal Romania Russia Scotland Serbia Slovakia Slovenia Spain - July 10th Sweden - December 15th Switzerland Turkey Ukraine Wales * Holiday for two seasons not one. League Reset Dates Austria - 13th June Belarus Belgium Bulgaria Croatia Czech Republic Denmark Finland France Germany Greece Holland * Hungary Iceland Ireland * Israel Italy N. Ireland Norway Poland Portugal Romania Russia Scotland Serbia Slovakia Slovenia Spain Sweden Switzerland Turkey Ukraine Wales The Rules A) Game Set-up 1) Load One Nation Only (All Available Divisions within your nation) 2) Your choice of Database Size (Large Recommended) 3) NO Edited Databases of any kind 4) Customising Database You can add players to the database up to a limit of 100,000 in total in order to add more depth to your save and also add more difficulty down the line. Suggested Adds Players from Top Clubs/Top Divisions (Europe or All Continents) - This increases the challenge at Continental Level Players Based in your Nation - This can add up to 50% more players to your game Players Based in your Region (Central Europe/East Europe/UK & Ireland) - This can add extra players likely to join your club There will be a file correcting the club/competition names, I will advise use of this. NO other additional customising is allowed. 5) Attribute Masking should be Enabled 6) Disable Ingame Editor (Please do this) 7) Optional Ticks Add Key Staff (This will give you a Scout, Physio & Ass Man by generating them if your club is without) Add Players in Playable Nations (This will ensure all clubs have a minimum number of players, generating them if needed) The extra levels of detail that you can change while in the game are up to you, as they shouldn't make a difference. B) Steps in the Game 1) Add an unemployed manager; you will not use this man to manage your club. I like "Unemployed Man or Holiday Man" 2) Go on holiday until the reset date of your chosen nation (Should take about an hour) TIP - Changing Detail Level to None will make it go faster. (Remember to change it back afterwards) TIP - Saving on the day before this date may give you a better choice of teams by reloading the game then going on holiday for one day, I would strongly recommend trying this. 3) Add a new manager - Use yourself, or a created character to help build a story line a) Personal Details - Your Choice b) Tracksuit vs. Trainer - Your Choice c) Past Experience lowest Possible (Generally Sunday League) d) Coaching Licenses lowest Possible (None) e) Other options are up to you TIP - If you add the language of your country of choice it will make it easier at the beginning TIP - Training now includes you at some level depending on your abilities. 4) Choose to take over any club which has been promoted to the bottom playable league of your nation. TIP - Easiest way in FM17 to see this is on the "Season Review" screen, showing the "Promoted Clubs" TIP - You can confirm your club by checking the Domestic History's page for not being at this level since start of game 5) Retire your unemployed manager. 6) Manage your club to National Title & European Champions League Victory 7) Completing the Challenge. C) Signing of Players 1) You must be able to scout them TIP - You don't actually have to scout them, just be able to TIP - You can check your scouting range on the Scouting page 2) Alternatively (If you can't scout them), you must bring them on a trial first 3) You are able to sign anyone sent to you via Agent Offer TIP - Make sure you screenshot the Agent offer 4) In later versions you can get your DoF to find players, he will bring in players not in Scouting Range, these are also allowed. TIP - Grab a screenshot of your DoF signing them D) Posting 1) Player naming is allowed. (This is a warning for those of you who do not wish to see this) 2) Discussion of tactics is allowed. (This is another warning for those of you who do not wish to see this) Expected Updates We have minimum expectations when it comes to a first up post and also in the end of season updates. The Bold pages are necessary for everyone; the others are some suggestions that will get others interested in your posts and following your club. All other screenshots are welcome and encouraged, but we please ask that the majority are posted as links, because lots of pictures can make the page very slow to load. First Post: Domestic Leagues History (Club) Profile (Manager) Overview (Club) Squad (Club) End of Season Updates: Transfers (Club) - This is so we can see the ins & outs League Table (Competition) Squad (Club) Information (Manager) Profile (Manager) Information (Club) Profile (Players) Progress of your club should be documented using this thread; we want to hear the story of your club all the way through. Please keep us updated, even if you are doing badly. If you title your end of season report in bold this makes it easier to identify. Everyone will be supportive, and really get into your game if you give more detail. E) Other 1. If you are Sacked 1. You can Restart from the beginning or; 2. Continue your game and pick a new club (Under Same Rules) at the end of the next season or; 3. Add another Euro League/Remove Current League, holiday a whole season and continue 1. You can still only have one nation running at a time 2. Once the league becomes active you MUST holiday a full season 3. The club must be one of those unplayable from the beginning 2. No Restrictions on Parent or Feeder Clubs 3. International Management allowed from FM14 forwards (But you cannot start as an International Manager) The use of any external utilities and editors (Such as Genie Scout or FMM) are prohibited. As of FM14 there are also unlockables, these are also prohibited, please don't use them. It would be appreciated if you also ticked the box at the start which prevents the use of the ingame editor. How to Post a Screenshot 1) While in FM, press the 'Prt Sc' button (usually next to F12 on your keyboard). 2) Open an image editing program such as Paint and paste the image 3) Save the file as a JPEG or PNG 4) Upload the image to an image hosting website such as Photobucket or Imageshack 5) Post the direct URL to the image here. Alternatively using ALT + F9 in game saves a screenshot to your user data folder. (You can also edit this in the shortcuts options) The Euro Nation Motivational I would like to thank all of you who choose to participate in this thread this year, and to wish everyone taking on this challenge the best of luck on a long and hard journey to managerial success! I have personally had a number of hugely enjoyable saves over the years, first in Gundos challenge and then latterly in the Big Euro Nation Challenge. The atmosphere and support these threads have historically offered is key in making the thread, and your saves more enjoyable as I can testify to. I and some of the other regulars of these threads are here to help for the new challengers and hope everybody that participates contributes considerably to the thread. There is nothing better than getting immersed not only in your own game but providing the encouragement to other people's attempts too. Remember we are all fighting the same battle - to defeat the AI (and uncover fabulous newgens!) - Therefore it goes without saying that any form of cheating will be severely chastised. Don't do it! I know that it is painful to lose a European Final or to lose the title on the final day (I have been there myself on more than one occasion) but eventual success down the line is all the sweeter for those defeats. Good luck to all the participants – Here’s to a successful (and enjoyable) version!!
  2. United and Loyal: a Norwegian Adventure Hello, everyone. I started playing Football Manager about five years ago, which makes me a relative newcomer to this fascinating game. I've always loved to write, and about 15 years ago, I started writing "dynasty stories" based on Out of the Park Baseball. I discovered I enjoyed creating a wider setting for the game on the field; it made my engagement and immersion with my career even more intriguing and fulfilling. I'm going to see if I can capture that same kind of enjoyment with a FM 19 save. Most of my FM experience has taken place in England, so I decided to start with something different this time. I wanted to manage a big club, but not a world power. I wanted to experience a different football culture, perhaps one that doesn't get as much attention on the forum. If the club is located in a beautiful, interesting city, that's even better. And, although I know I can change my bespoke club's kit any way I choose, I wanted to start with colors I like. (I don't think I can change the colors of the seats in my stadium, and it annoys me when they clash with the club's home strip.) That's how I ended up in Norway. I've used one of the nation's bigger teams, Strømgodset, as the basis of my creation. My club is still located in the city of Drammen, and I'm leaving it in its home grounds, Marienlyst Stadium. I'm naming it Gulskogen, after a borough of Drammen that has historical connections to Strømsgodset. I like Godset's dark blue and white strip, so that's not being changed, either. My alter ego, Aidan Harris, is an English manager with Norway as a second nationality. For the sake of the story, I'm giving Aidan some managerial credentials, rather than starting as an absolute beginner. My club will have a few full internationals on its roster, and I don't want them scorning the boss for his lack of experience. There will be plenty of results and stats and numbers here, but I hope I'll create a character you'll enjoy reading about and rooting for (or against). The title of my thread comes from the English translation of Norway's national motto: United and loyal until the mountains of Dovre crumble. That sounds like the kind of team I'd like to create: united, loyal, resolute. I doubt Aidan will be around as long as the mountains of Dovre, but I hope he'll take the Blues to some lofty heights. We'll all find out soon enough.
  3. i have been working on a editor with new nation rules for Norway, but i can´t seem to figure out how to get the season to start in 2018 instead of 2017. any tips?
  4. Rosenborg Ballklubb - 2018/2019 Squad/Tactics | Youth Squad | Season Preview | Board Expectations Say hello to Mr. Anon Manager which was hired as Rosenborg BK manager at the start of the 2016/2017 season! (I wasn't planning on making this post so I used my real name and details as the manager. For this thread I will refer to the manager as "Anon Manager" instead as I don't want to use my real name.) The reason for picking Rosenborg is two-fold; 1) it's my local team 2) I wanted an "easy but still interesting" team, to ease me back into FM which I haven't played since FM14. For those unaware, Rosenborg BK is the most dominant force in Norwegian football. From roughly 1985 to 2000 they absolutely dominated all of Norwegian football. In the last 10-15 years they have been struggling but now for the past two seasons they are (maybe) back to their old dominant ways. Shockingly however, this manager who's finally returned RBK back to their old ways was unceremoniously sacked and replaced by me! The first two years were quite successful but ultimately not that interesting so for this thread I've "skipped forward" to the third season when things are really starting to take shape. I'll make a separate post (coming soon!) which summarize the first two seasons. Long-term Goals: I've promised the board to play attacking attractive football, to rely heavily on young players and to develop our own players through the academy. Long-term I wish to win the Champions League. Additionally to raise the rating of Rosenborg BK - as well as Norway and the Norwegian Tippeliga. Over the past couple of seasons I've worked with the board and took every opportunity to cajole them into upgrading our facilities - especially things related to youth development! We now have fantastic facilities (at the start of season 3 the board agreed to upgrade youth facilities even further but it's not completed yet)! I won't push the board to increase the stadium as Trondheim is a small city and I intend to balance the books by playing Champions League and selling players. I'm playing primarily to have fun so I'm not going to restrict myself to signing only Norwegian players or using only academy players. I will however try to sign mainly young players though occasionally I might sign experienced players. I will not min-max or exploit the game as I don't find it fun. I'm a bit of a role-player at heart so I want my manager to be a reasonable and respected guy. I'll give talented players their "big break" when truly special clubs come knocking - if the price is right. Season 3 Goals: At the start of season 3 the board is expecting us to win the league (as always). I also want to get out of the group stages of the Champions League and win the Norwegian Cup. At this point my team is so far superior to any other Norwegian team that I would not accept anything but winning the league. Molde BK has made some great signings this season but they have nowhere near my depth. Highlighted Players: John Hou Sæter (19yo, MC): I love this guy. Such incredibly well-rounded stats! He can play just about every role possible in the MC position. He still has one full star of potential left so I hope to get a couple more stats to 16 or maybe even 17. 18 Determination too! Abel Casquete (20yo, AMC): The only real downside to Abel is his low Natural Fitness but apart from that he ticks all the boxes. He's "only" a 3,5* CA but he has 5* PA so I really do have the highest of hopes for him. I just hope I can keep him at the club for as long as possible! I think the big European clubs will come for this guy in 1-2 years... Marius Lundemo (23yo MC/AMC): The captain of my team is simply a rock-solid and dependable midfielder. He's getting very close to fulfilling his 4* PA as well which is a credit to my scouts yet again. This guy is such a classic all-round midfielder but I would be extremely pleased if he could push one or two more stats to 16! Top Prospects: Jorge Almirón (18yo, AMR): I have some real faith in this Brazilian regen I signed. He's got a couple of 14s in key stats plus 16 Acceleration and Aggression. Pace and Stamina is also great. He does have some real weak stats but at 5* PA I have faith he will fill out his stats quickly... Erling Håland (17yo, ST): I won't go as far as saying this guy will become better than Messi but I suspect he might beat out Carew, Solskjær and Flo as the greatest Norwegian striker of all time. His Mental stats are absurdly good for his age! I would love if he could get some more acc/pace, passing, technique and positioning. Next season I will play him in the senior squad but this season he will get one more year loaned out. Transfers (In - Out): Nicolai Næss (25yo, DC): I quickly (get it?) realized that acc/pace was an issue for my entire squad but especially for my defence. Næss should help the situation; he's a relatively quick and well rounded ball-playing defender which slots right into my attacking style of play. Important too is that fact that he counts as home-grown. The Norwegian league required SIXTEEN out of 25 registered players to be home-grown (in country) which can be frustrating at times. Everton (23 yo DR): No, I didn't sign the entire Everton team but rather a regen in Brazil called Everton! He has 3* CA and 3,5* PA but I really like his well-rounded physicals (hopefully Stamina will improve a little) as well as other important stats being high. Maybe I overpaid a little but I had no real promising DR in my youth system and my main squad was real weak in that position. Raffaele Di Gennaro (24yo, GK): My scouts were loving this guy as soon as they laid their eyes on him and I can see why! At £625K with 3,5* CA and 4* PA, I pulled the trigger because my current first choice GK is getting a little bit old and he's only a 3* CA/PA. His first touch and passing worries me slightly but I love his all-round great stats plus his 17 Determination. Nothing too exciting happening with transfers out - which is a good thing because many clubs were desperate to sign both Lundemo and Hou Sæter. I want to keep both these guys at least one more season. I did let my 27yo DL Skjelvik go (his main draw was 17 acc and pace). I also let Williams (young Welsh DR) go because he hadn't developed quiet how I would have liked. Lastly I sold my 31yo backup GK to make way for Di Gennaro.
  5. Welcome to my Scandinavian Challenge! My Aim is to win every domestic title in Finland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden and Denmark! This is me, an Unemployed Former Semi-Pro who had to cut his career short due to injury, he decided to go into coaching a quickly got his UEFA 'B' Badge and is ready to take the challenge of the Scandinavian Countries. Hope you stick around for the adventure!
  6. As an avid Football Manager player, there's one thing that has always annoyed me. I am from Norway, and usually play in the Norwegian divisions. In the beginning it's all fine and dandy but as the years drag on, I become superior in Norway and tend to either develop or purchase the best norwegian talents in order to fulfill the requirements when registering players for the division (16 out of the 25 players have to be trained in Norway for three years before their 21st birthday). I honestly don't mind this either as it promotes a good national side, but the only downside is that during the World Cup and the European Championships most of my squad is out on international duty but the games in the Norwegian top division remains as the schedule is from March throughout November. This leaves me without a squad and I know what most of you will think. "Can't you just use Under 21 players as they shouldn't need to be registered?" That's the issue with the Norwegian league as I cannot use anyone outside of my 25man squad (other than cupgames). So I ask of the possibility to apply for a postponement of matches in the circumstances I don't have enough eligible players. I've included two screenshots of two different matches during the same European Championship where I've been absolutely destroyed by the players on international duty.
  7. Here we go with Stabæk! Great facilities as well as excellent Junior Coaching and Youth Recruitment. They've only won the Norwegian top flight once, back in 2008. This is something I want to rectify along with getting the club into either the Champions League group stages or the Europa League group stages. The furthest they have gotten previously has been the EL Playoff round and the CL Third Qualifying round. As you can see the average age is extremely young, at only 20 while we only have one 30+ year old in the squad. The next oldest is 26.... THE SQUAD A good amount of positive personalities as well as a strong core of Norwegians to call on. Africans also populate the squad and there is even an American joined by a Georgian. (sounds like the first line of a bad joke....) We even have an Indian! Sayouba and Skjonsberg are the only two with international caps. The board left me with the following expectations which I find fair enough. Financially, we are healthy with over a million in the bank. LET US BEGIN!
  8. So, after my last save with Ta´Xbiex disappeared when my computer crashed, I had to start a new long term save. This time I'll try to take Kautokeino IL to the top of the norwegian league (and the world?), only using youth products. I will try to do four to five updates each season. Kautokeino IL play in the 5th tier of Norwegian football, in the 4. Divisjon avd 24 (4. Division, group 24). I chose Kautokeino as they are the one of the most northern clubs in Norway, and one of the worst in this group. I actually used to play at this level myself when I played football. Anyway, here is the club and the manager. Say hello to Warg Zala. Some random dude that showed up one day and wanted to be the new manager of Kautokeino. And to everyones surprise that's what he became. (As always my manager is from two "weird" nations) I felt kinda sad when I saw how long the manager before me had been in charge. Oh well, times change I guess!
