  1. By Timo for FMSLife Sujet Original The Eredivisie is the highest echelon of professional football in the Netherlands. The league was founded in 1956, two years after the start of professional football in the Netherlands. At the end of the 2015–2016 season it was ranked the 13th best league in Europe by UEFA. The top division consists of 18 clubs. Each club meets every other club twice during the season, once at home and once away. At the end of each season, the club at the bottom is automatically relegated to the second level of the Dutch league system, the Eerste Divisie (First Division). At the same time, the champion of the Eerste Divisie will be automatically promoted to the Eredivisie. The next two clubs from the bottom of the Eredivisie go to separate promotion/relegation play-offs with eight high-placed clubs from the Eerste Divisie. 3. Well, we are now heading into the ninth year of this challenge. It has been an incredible six years around here with some great stories, clubs, and players. Rlipscombe, Iacovone and Myself are looking forward to another great year. This challenge is similar to dafuge's, Gundo's & others, starting with a previously unplayable club and taking them all the way to a National Title and then on to the European Champions League. With a variety of leagues, styles of play, different rules, and many different locations for your clubs there can be a lot of variety throughout the thread, a great atmosphere and fun with all our users. Special credit to Duccio for the logo atop this years challenge. General Challenge Info Possible Countries France | Germany | Italy | Netherlands | Portugal | Russia | Spain | Turkey League Rules Top Divisions France | Germany | Italy | Netherlands | Portugal | Russia | Spain | Turkey 2nd Divisions France | Germany | Italy | Netherlands | Portugal | Russia | Spain | Turkey 3rd Divisions France | Germany | Italy | Portugal | Spain | Turkey League Reset Dates June 20th - France, Germany, Russia & Turkey June 30th - Portugal & Italy July 7th - Netherlands July 10th - Spain The Rules A) Game Set-up 1) Load One Nation Only (All Available Divisions within your nation) 2) Your choice of Database Size (Large Recommended) 3) NO Edited Databases of any kind 4) Customising Database You can add players to the database up to a limit of 100,000 in total - Change for people wanting more variety in their DB Suggested Adds Players from Top Clubs/Top Divisions (Europe or All Continents) - This increases the challenge at Continental Level Players Based in your Nation - This can add up to 50% more players to your game Players Based in your Region (Central Europe/East Europe/UK & Ireland) - This can add extra players likely to join your club There will be a file correcting the club/competition names, I will advise use of this. NO other additional customising is allowed. 5) Attribute Masking should be Enabled (In FM17 this means UNTICKED) 6) Disable Ingame Editor (Please do this) 7) Optional Ticks Add Key Staff (This will give you a Scout, Physio & Ass Man by generating them if your club is without) Add Players in Playable Nations (This will ensure all clubs have a minimum number of players, generating them if needed) The extra levels of detail that you can change while in the game are up to you, as they shouldn't make a difference. B) Steps in the Game 1) Add an unemployed manager, you will not use this man to manage your club. I like "Unemployed Man or Holiday Man" 2) Go on holiday until the reset date of your chosen nation (Should take about an hour) TIP - Changing Detail Level to None will make it go faster. (Remember to change it back afterwards) TIP - Saving on the day before this date may give you a better choice of teams by reloading the game then going on holiday for one day, I would strongly recommend trying this. 3) Add a new manager - Use yourself, or a created character to help build a story line a) Personal Details - Your Choice b) Tracksuit vs Trainer - Your Choice c) Past Experience lowest Possible (Generally Sunday League) d) Coaching Licenses lowest Possible (None) e) Other options are up to you TIP - If you add the language of your country of choice it will make it easier at the beginning TIP - Training now includes you at some level depending on your abilities. 4) Choose to take over any club which has been promoted to the bottom playable league of your nation. TIP - Easiest way in FM17 to see this is on the "Season Review" screen, showing the "Promoted Clubs" TIP - You can confirm your club by checking the Domestic History's page for not being at this level since start of game 5) Retire your unemployed manager. 6) Manage your club to National Title & European Champions League Victory 7) Completing the 'Big' Euro Challenge. C) Signing of Players 1) You must be able to scout them TIP - You don't actually have to scout them, just be able to TIP - You can check your scouting range on the Scouting page 2) Alternatively (If you can't scout them), you must bring them on a trial first 3) You are able to sign anyone sent to you via Agent Offer TIP - Make sure you screenshot the Agent offer 4) In later versions you can get your DoF to find players, he will bring in players not in Scouting Range, these are also allowed. TIP - Grab a screenshot of your DoF signing them D) Posting 1) Player naming is allowed. (This is a warning for those of you who do not wish to see this) 2) Discussion of tactics is allowed. (This is another warning for those of you who do not wish to see this) Expected Updates We have minimum expectations when it comes to a first up post and also in the end of season updates. The Bold pages are necessary for everyone, the others are some suggestions that will get others interested in your posts and following your club. All other screenshots are welcome and encouraged, but we please ask that the majority are posted as links, because lots of pictures can make the page very slow to load. First Post: Domestic Leagues History (Club) Profile (Manager) Overview (Club) Squad (Club) End of Season Updates: Transfers (Club) - This is so we can see the ins & outs League Table (Competition) Squad (Club) Information (Manager) Profile (Manager) Information (Club) Profile (Players) I will show some examples of updates down below in the next posts so you can see some of the stuff previously posted. Progress of your club should be documented using this thread, we want to hear the story of your club all the way through. Please keep us updated, even if you are doing badly. If you title your end of season report in bold this makes it easier to identify. Everyone will be supportive, and really get into your game if you give more detail, I also provide a list of some previous star players that may have become household names in this thread. E) Other If you are Sacked You can Restart from the beginning or; Continue your game and pick a new club (Under Same Rules) at the end of the next season or; Add another Big Euro League/Remove Current League, holiday a whole season and continue You can still only have one nation running at a time Once the league becomes active you MUST holiday a full season The club must be one of those unplayable from the beginning No Restrictions on Parent or Feeder Clubs International Management allowed from FM14 forwards (But you cannot start as an International Manager) The use of any external utilities and editors (Such as Genie Scout or FMM) are prohibited. As of FM14 there are also unlockables, these are also prohibited, please don't use them. It would be appreciated if you also ticked the box at the start which prevents the use of the ingame editor. How to Post a Screenshot 1) While in FM, press the 'Prt Sc' button (usually next to F12 on your keyboard). 2) Open an image editing program such as Paint and paste the image 3) Save the file as a JPEG or PNG 4) Upload the image to an image hosting website such as Photobucket or Imageshack 5) Post the direct Url to the image here. Alternatively using ALT + F9 in game saves a screenshot to your user data folder. (You can also edit this in the shortcuts options) The LLR Motivational Finally I would like to wish everyone taking on this challenge the best of luck on a long and hard journey to managerial success! The atmosphere and contribution in this thread has always been excellent, long may it continue. As core members for every year, LLR, rlipscombe, Iacovone and PRDH would like to add that we are here to help for the new challengers and hope everybody that participates contributes considerably to the thread. There is nothing better than getting immersed not only in your own game but providing the encouragement to other people's attempts too. Remember we are all fighting the same battle - to defeat the AI (and uncover fabulous newgens!) - therefore it goes without saying that any form of cheating will be severely chastised. Don't do it! We have had an incident in the past, lets not see it again - it spoils the challenge for the hard workers in here. Note: All the screenshots etc are from when I last ran the challenge in 2015, so I will do my best to update them in the coming week, but this is it for now.
  4. It has been a long day for Edmar van Haalen. The 25 year old had just come back to his hometown, Nunspeet, after two months of intense studying at the Erasmus University in Rotterdam. It was only 8 years ago that Edmar was on the breach of getting into the Ajax U18s, but the dream was cut short when he broke his leg during a friendly game. Since then, things have been different. Edmar never managed to get back on the pitch and the long recovery meant he had to look elsewhere. It wasn't an easy decision, but he chose to study law. Alongside his law studies, Edmar thought it would be a good idea to get his first Coaching Badge so that he could get a job as a coach at one of the local clubs. Despite passing his Coaching Course with ease, and getting his National C Licence. he couldn't find a decent job in Rotterdam, where he only had a part time job as a coach at a couple of youth clubs. Edmar arrived at his parents' house. To his surprise, his first ever coach was sat there with his parents. He knew they were good friends, mostly because of his help and belive in Edmar, but he didn't expect to see him when he got there. Between the two there was always an understanding - all talk about football is forbidden. It wasn't a secret that Edmar misses his playing days, and he hasn't taken his injury lightly. Despite the well known, gentelmanic rule, it was Edmar himself who brought up the topic. "I heard they were looking for a new coach at VV Nunspeet. Is that true?" "Yes, but you know, nothing special. They are looking for someone to take this job and enjoy it. No one is expecting big things around here." "Interesting. Do you still know the owner well?" "No, no. I don't know if you have the time now, with you studying in Rotterdam. Maybe when you finish you degree you could come back here and get yourself a job as a coach?" "Maybe." The next day Edmar woke up at 5:30 A.M. Not even at University does he wake up this early. He drank his morning coffee, made himself a sandwich and took off to the town's football pitch. Usually on Fridays, the young kids are training there in the early hours of the morning, just early enough for them to make it to school in time. Edmar likes visiting the ground he used to play on for many years, and meet some of those who coached him. Sometimes he even helps them with some drills. He witnessed something unusual, something he couldn't recall seeing during his time here. The chairman of the club was looking at the young players, talking with some other men that Edmar didn't recognise. It wasn't long before the conversation was over. The chairman started walking towards his car but Edmar stopped him. "Mr. Lammers, I'm Edmar van Haalen. Do you have a minute?" "Just a minute though. I have a meeting to get to. What can I help you with?" "I am currently a student in Rotterdam, my parents live here. I was interested about the vacant position as manager." A little giggle came out. "Listen. I know we are a small club but you won't have enough time to make an impact here." "I am willing to put my studies on a hold for a year." Edmar didn't even blink while saying that, "I don't even want to be a lawyer anymore. If things don't go well and we decide to part ways, I will continue studying." "Well, what can you offer us that someone else can't?" "I am a local boy. I am still young, but I know this club ever since I was little. I can help build this club. I always had a dream of playing at the top league but currently, I can only manage a team. If you give me a chance, I am sure you won't regret it." The chairman said his goodbyes and entered his car. Edmar stayed to help with the training that was going on currently. Edmar went back home. Just as he saw his house, he saw a familiar car sitting right infront of his house. It was the chairman's. Edmar walked inside the house and sitting in the living room was VV Nunspeet's chairman. "Here is your contract. The season starts in two months. You have two weeks to decide." Edmar was shocked, "Don't worry, I won't let you down!" It was clear to see that his parents weren't all too happy with what was happening. Being a football manager at such a small club wasn't the best career move for their son. Edmar didn't wait. He signed the contract and ran out after Lammers. He handed him the signed contract. "I'll give you a week and a half to get your head sorted. The squad is out on holiday so think about training rituals." He got in his car and drove off. A new era in Edmar's life was about to begin and he knew that he could regret this moment for the rest of his life. But, it was the thought of where this could lead him that made him be sure of what he has done.
  5. Hi everyone! As some of you may know I have been doing FM17 on youtube for some time now and it's been quite a journey I must say I loved the journey 'till now and I hope it's gonna continue. Other story is going to continue normally but I'm adding something new to the channel I have been thinking what should it be I came down to two choice Italian Venezia in third league or Netherlands. I was excited about both choices but in the end decided for the Netherlands challenge because I have not managed in this country for long time now in FM I don't even know if I did which is surprising to me. Anyway I'm hoping to bring something new to Eredivisie with my new club Go Ahead Eagles they are newly promoted team which has rather low facilities and low budget. We even had some transfer budget at the start of the season which I transfered into more wage budged for potential loan signings and free transfers. One of the first things I noticed was that I had about same budged in this club that I would get in Venezia which is third Italian division which goes to show top 3 clubs in Netherlands are way off (Ajax, Feyenoord, PSV). I'm hoping to slowly get this club close to these three and contest for the first place in Eredivisie maybe even some European runs. First season goal is to avoid relegation but I'm hopefull for top ten which is rather longshot after the signings I made which were rather dissapointing due to lack of budget and interest of better players. In this series format is going to be a bit different about 6 episodes per season. There are going to be 2 episodes per week IF this series gets more popular than my previous one or atleast about the same I might do new episode every 3 days, which is kinda plan already but I prefer to leave myself some leeway. Episodes are going to be about 20 minutes long except for this first one because I had to show around the team a bit and other fuss... In real life Go Ahead Eagles got relegated so there's no extra pressure of this particular team performing well I guess... Nevertheless I want to overperform on every possible step in my own way. Probably not going to play wingers as is custom in Netherlands I'm basing that on every single team having bunch of wingers except for the team I picked. Without further ado here is my first video with Go Ahead Eagles with club presentantion, transfers, players (taking look at them), goals for the season, preseason and first match of the season against FC Utrecht I hope you like it, if you have any suggestions, comments please feel free to let me know! Best Regards, Joey
  6. Hi all, i am new to posting threads, although i am an avid reader of this section of the forum. I read peoples posts about how they are not quite getting the fundamentals of the game/tactics/player roles etc. But they are willing to learn and the community of new and veteran players try to help people get a better understanding of the game, so here i am... Recently i have started a save with Heerenveen and i have been struggling a lot, as of writing this i'm doing okay in the league after a shaky start - mainly down to poor strikers that are at the club, my defence has always been top 3 all season so a bit more potency up front and we should be okay - so i strengthened areas in jan mainly through the center of the park. I sold luka zahovic and barbosa for money to bolster the squad as i desperately needed to strengthen, the offers where to good. My away form has been okay it has been some of the home games that have me befuddled on how i should set up for the next home game. I know its the first season and from the indication from the the first half we have been better in taking chances and winning games. i brought in will keane from utd as the other options i was scouting just did not impress me. His on the ball skill and link up play has been great as he has 85% pass ratio and has scored 6 goals in 8 games and he can improve. so 1.3 mil well spent. The other singing has been great in the midfield. Guira - not the best technically but that can improve - mentals and physicals are amazing. He's rarely put a foot wrong and always avg about a 7.00 or over. We have won our last 3 matches but i think we have been lucky, we had to come from 1 down to utrecht as i went with this tactic as it worked against grafshaap on a control mentality. It backed fired against utrecht as i believe we played into their hands because of how deep and defensive they setup. We left ourselves vulnerable at the back. The picture below is the tactic i started with - attacking was a mistake, they got through with good chances a lot. and i noticed brasanac was getting caught out far up the pitch and noticed our midfield was getting exposed. I was putting a lot of pressure on guira to mark 3 players.plus the wingbacks at times so i put brasanac to DLP/DF and pulled back thorn to cm attack to offer more support in midfield. Also i put slagveer to support to help the wing back. It seemed to work out better and we created better chances, bossed the game more and got the win. I felt we got away with it however we are still improving. ------ Alteration made as described above. I am pondering using this as my main tactic. 433, i want to build from the back, and stretch teams, Keane needs to play a vital role as i was him and thern to link up and spread play to the wings. The main problem is i'm still unsure how i want them to play - i am off to frankfurt for a week to see the mrs family so i have time to think on what brand of football i and hopefully when i get back i will finish the season using suggestions from the community. Apologies if it seems like a messy post, new to the posting malarkay. Feedback would be brilliant thanks.
