  1. Hey guys This is a general suggestion, because I have no idea how youth nurturing works in FM 2020, but, I know what's definitely wrong in 2019. The biggest part of my FM games is building teams on the long term. It's one of the many possible playstyles, and it is definitely an important one. Issue.1 In FM 2019, with the requirements for building a player personality, if you play a game with only several leagues loaded ( I have a very good computer, but I don't load all leagues ), you will have less Perfectionists, Model Citizens, Professionals, etc. players that you can buy/transfer for free to create a decent team of influence for the young generation. Solution.1 There should be some automatic way that improves the game adult player loading and also the generation of youth intakes when you load only a few leagues, because else building teams for the future is radically different than when playing with all leagues loaded, which I doubt many people are able to do. I am not aware of FM 2020 mechanics so I can't really suggest any fix for this, but shouldn't be difficult. Issue.2 I understand that the previous tutoring model was too easy, although I really doubt too many people knew how to use it. But the 2019 model is exactly the opposite, and not necessarily natural. For example it's very debatable how young players can be affected by other young players of similar age in the youth team so radically to change their determination and mentality in brutal ways, while the same players moved to the first team and tutored by two team leaders with high determination and great personalities barely touch him during the same period of the time. The way it works now, if you have an young intake who is let's say perfectionist, with 20 in determination, professionalism and ambition, his personality will get destroyed by the influence of the other young players already in the team. Moving him to the first team again will get him destroyed. Solution.2 Again, I have no idea how 2020 works in this regard, but randomness is a thing that will destroy playing the game and trying to build teams from scratch on the long term. a. One solution would be marginal influence, if not zero influence from players of similar ages, or, if you want to keep this, a much bigger influence from established players. Ronaldo will be Ronaldo at any team. And any other 27+ years old established player. b. Second, not sure if I am right about this, but it seems that mentoring groups are less influencing than the overall team mental abilities, especially the leaders' ones. If I am right, than this should change to the opposite, where mentoring groups should have a much bigger influence on individuals in the groups, again, depending on age. c. Also, the most important part of this should be the age and status. The number of games a player had for the team should have much less influence, I'd even go to zero influence on mentoring. Again, Ronaldo will be Ronaldo wherever he goes, even if he gets to mentor someone whom is 20 years old and already has 50 games for the team Ronaldo goes to. Thank you
  2. Does anyone know if the size of a mentoring group is important, can you have too many in 1 group? I currently have a save where I've put 13 players in a groupwhere one has significant influence, som have average and most of them have light. They seem to develop fine, but I was just wondering if anyone has experience that shows small groups being better. Thx.
  3. Ran an unemployed test save for a couple of years and one of the things that caught my eye is the number of PPMs on players. The 11 PPMs of Sergej Milinkovic-Savic are an extreme example, but there does seem to be an overabundance of PPMs on most players. Uploaded the save as per @Seb Wassell instructions, file name is Lucas Fuller - Test.fm
  4. So, I actually like the new concept around mentoring. It is more logical and realistic. I don't love how we now have to move younger players to the senior squad, but I at least get why that is the case. I also think it makes sense to link the mentor's influence to squad hierarchy. However, I feel in the new setup there is one key flaw that should be addressed - a lack of influence from new signings. As we know, it takes time for new signings to move up the squad hierarchy. And, since the new mentoring model uses the hierarchy, then that means that new signings - even ones with solid world reputations - have little influence on mentees. That is not logical, nor realistic. Case in point: I signed model professional Michel Morganella, both because I needed a right FB and also because he's a great mentor. I have paired him to mentor two youth newgens who have little to no reputation, and he has no influence on them. An this is because he is a new signing and therefore at the bottom of the hierarchy. Morganella has 4 star world reputation: The tutee has 1/2 star world reputation: Taking this example further, would it make sense that if i signed, say, Ronaldo, to my team, that he would have no influence on a tutee just because he's a new signing? No, that's absurd. So, I'd like to propose a solution for the SI devs to address this pretty glaring shortcoming: Create a formula that bases a tutor's influence on a scale using sliding weights between a player's status in the team hierarchy and their world reputation For instance... If a player is at the bottom of the hierarchy ("Other player"), their tutoring influence formula could be: 25% Hierarchy / 75% World Rep. We could do that all the way up the ladder, such as: Other Players: 25% Hierarchy / 75% World Rep Influential players: 50% hierarchy / 50% World Rep Highly Influential players: 75% hierarchy / 25% World Rep Leaders: 100% hierarchy This would be much more realistic. It captures the fact that a players influence among a squad can be developed either from longevity at the squad (ie, hierarchy) or through accomplishment at other clubs (world rep). Both should come into play. And, in real life, you can have strong leaders at clubs who are rotation players with dwindling world rep (or perhaps never had it to begin with), and star studded new signings who are still moving up the leadership ranks. Both of those players should have an equal place in the mentoring process. Cheers
  5. - Almost every single player that's put on individual training complains about ''Feels that the assigned training is not going to produce.... etc.'''. Both youngsters and senior members do this. It's really annoying since certain attributes need vital boosting. I assume this is a bug or are all my players whiney turds? - Coaches regularly feed back that a player should no longer do a certain individual training since ''it's not a weakness in his game anymore'' or something like that. Which is ridiculous, especially if, for example, you have a 18-year old defender with a strength attribute of 8. If you change it to something else the same notifications happen. This happens to a lot of players. So none of my average players have any weaknesses in their game? - None of the ''additional focus'' areas for individual training seem to include ''Crossing''. Is this a bug or am I missing something? - The training workload of my team always seems to be on ''Average'' even if I add extra sessions in the training schedules. Is there an option to change it to ''Normal'' or ''Heavy''? If there is, it's difficult to find. - Is there a way to have a player from my first team tutor a youngster from a B team? I know you have to create mentor groups but I seem to be unable to add players from the B team or u19 team to that group?
  6. In a previous chat with Miles on twitter asked him if it was planned for players on youth teams not been avaiable to be mentored by 1st squad players, he confirmed it. What i did was put a certain player from the youth team working with the 1st squad (picture 1 Kamil Grabara GK). But on the mentoring window still don't have him avaiable to be mentored (picture 2), the only option is move him to the 1st squad definitly. Miles said it could be a potential bug to report it here
  7. ok so basically I've had a regents come through my academy, with high determination and potential (potential, he needs a lot of work). So I picked him as one player id attempt to develop the most, he was even a club supporter. he was inconsistent, which was my major qualm, I loaned him out for first team experience and also because I could get scouts to watch him and give him feedback to help improve him. So this is when it gets interesting; he said he didn't want to be loaned I reassured him it was for the best, he was still being difficult but hey. he was putting in some sub standard performances like 6.5 over 7 games so I said relax it will come, he said I don't want to be loaned out this is your fault. pretty much. then his personality changed which is a mechanic I've not seen before but whatever, went from driven to light hearted(his determination didn't change) . I was thinking no biggy it changed but I can get it to change back if I do this properly. so he comes back to the club I've got a squad with some pretty good tutors so I thought I can get someone to tutor him hopefully solve the issue. EVERY tutor I suggest he hates, doesn't respond well to being loaned out or being given feedback good or negative about loan performances. I go on dynamics and he's the person in the game who dislikes me the most (rival) currently. does anyone have any experience of fixing poor relationships ? or am I going to have to sell him its no biggy if I do just would be nice to keep him as he came from my academy and I like developing players and he's in a position I need backup for. im not sure if keeping him in my first team squad is going to change his view on me or change his personality, as everyone in my squad supports me and thinks I'm good and the squad personality is professional. I currently have 6-8 players from my academy in my first team squad who have integrated well so he would have players he knows around him. any advice on repairing damaged relationships would be good or is he just going to hate me for ever at this stage no matter what I do. if thats the case ill just sell its a shame as he could be really good but he won't take the feedback.
  8. Dear Football Manager experts, I'm very insecure about posting this topic because I'm afraid I've created a big monster which can't be tamed. But since I already started writing all the information I'm now praying you guys can help me with it. For this thread I have thought about 4 major goals I would really like to achieve with your help: 1. I want to learn the strengths/weaknesses of this PSV Squad. 2. I want to learn how to use the strengths/weaknesses of this team to make a succesful tactic that fits the team (How can I make my star-players play their best football?) 3. I want to learn how I can decide what tactic I can use best with this squad in a competition where I'm considered to be title-contenders. 4. I want to learn how I can decide what tactic I can use best with this squad in a competition where I'm considered to be a huge underdog. Intro I have played FM17 for hundreds of hours. I've managed to achieve some succes with some saves, but the feeling keeps coming back that I'm not always entirely sure what I am doing and how I can read my players' strength and adapt this into a succesful tactic. Now I'm asking your help to mentor me and teach me. I've read a lot of the guides available on this forum and have learnt a lot. But this game keeps frustrating me because I'm having issues in understanding why sometimes my tactics work and other times they don't. I'm guessing I would really benefit from some mentoring, so that is why I've started this topic. I'm asking for your patience and your help! I already apologize for the enormous wave of information and questions I'm flooding you with. Every feedback about my questioning and about the topic-buildup is also welcome. Topic build-up: First I will introduce the squad I have: which players are in the team? Which positions do they prefer? Which players are the star-players? Then I will introduce my tactical preferences and the formations I'm thinking about. The Squad These are the players I have in my current first team: When I look at all the players I have in my current squad and look at their best positions, it looks like this: These are the key players of the squad, I am planning on building my squad around these players. I am gonna explain my thought-process about the strenghts and weaknesses of the players, please help me by giving feedback on my thoughts: Questions about the squad: 1. Have I analysed the strenghts and weaknesses correctly from the star-players? Or am I missing some vital points which could help me utilise the players to their best potential? 2. How can I utilise the star-players I mentioned above into a fitting tactic and formation? 3. What kind of players do I need to place in the squad to complement these star-players? Tactical thoughts When I think about the tactic I want to play, there are a few concepts that come to my mind: - I like to play from the back, don't hoof the ball forwards - I like quick, lightning counterattacks if the space is available for it - I like defensive stability (I prefer a 1-0 win over a 2-1 win all the time) - I disgust unnecessary mistakes which lead to us losing the ball Questions: 1. How can I translate these concepts into a successful tactic? (mentality; team shape; team instructions) Possible formations Ofcourse I've already tweaked a bit myself with the squad. My tweaking let to 3 possible formations: Can you guys help me make these players fit into my tactical thoughts and help me create a succesful tactic + formation? I would love to adapt the advices I'll get in this topic into matches and keep you posted about the steps I'll make, including to upload some matches I play with practical questions about the tactics et cetera.
