  1. The Unlikeliest of Champions - The Foxes "Football is about dreams, about feeling a special sensation, giving a surprise and inspiring joy." - c. 2016, Claudio Ranieri 5000 - 1. These were the odds Leicester City F.C. were given to win the league at the start of the 2015-2016 Premier League Season. Considering at the start of the season they were the favourites to face relegation a number of newspapers described their title win as the greatest sporting upset ever, some even dubbing them as "The Unbelievables". However, like the famous smuggler Han Solo, Claudio Ranieri would attempt to defy the odds. Style and Philosophy Ranieri's teams usually employ a tactically rigorous 4–4–2 formation, and are known for their fitness and work-rate, as well as their efficient and highly organised playing style; his teams have drawn praise in the media for their defensive solidity, effective use of heavy pressing to win back possession, and their ability to score from quick counter-attacks. To sum up, his style is based on fundamental British football (kick and rush) Italian-inspired defensive and counter-attack phases athleticism high pressing with a low defensive phase "Counter" - Playing on the Counter "Structured" - Organised defensive structure "Higher Tempo" - Playing quicker "Fairly Narrow" - Keeping the shape tight "Slightly Deeper" - Retreating back a times "Close down more" - Hassle opponents into conceding possession "Pass in to space" - Using through and lobbed balls "More direct passing" - Quicker passing transitions The Squad GK Kasper Schmeichel – He usually does a bit of sweeping for Leicester but much like his father is more a traditional goalkeeper except that they have a bit of eccentricity and flair to their goalkeeping play. Nothing more than the usual is required, I do like to play it out from the back usually so maybe passing, first touch and composure is good for your GK here but not necessary. (FM Role = Goalkeeper - Defense) (PI: Take Long Kicks) LB Christian Fuchs – Left-back Christian Fuchs was regarded as one of the best full-backs in England these days, only months after he seemed to be a player on the decline when leaving Schalke. The Austria international is one-dimensional, yet has almost perfect attributes to serve Ranieri’s system well, given his durability and solid speed compared to other full-backs. (FM Role = Wingback - Support) LCB Robert Huth – Robert Huth usually have an advantage in aerial duels. Their skill set certainly suit Leicester’s defensive approach, although a lack of speed hinders him from playing a higher back line to squeeze the space between them and the midfielders even more. Huth is normally at the end of an opponents’ attacking play, when Leicester’s centre-backs only have to clear crossed passes in a best-case scenario, as the Foxes intend to contain central attacks at all cost. (FM Role = Centerback - Defense) RCB Wes Morgan – Morgan is a tall, large, tenacious, and physically strong defender, who excels in the air, and is known for his heavy marking of opponent. He is also able to read the game and adapt to it very well. (*Refer to Huth) (FM Role = Centerback - Defense) RB Danny Simpson – Simpson would run up and down the line creating width and of course passing and crossing. Simpson has decent physicals, crossing and are solid defending. (FM Role = Fullback - Support) LM Marc Albrighton – Albrighton, though not as talented with the ball at his feet, knows how to find open spaces and when to use them properly. He often plays deep and angled balls to the strikers. (FM Role = Wide Midfielder - Support) CML Danny Drinkwater – A persistent box-to-box authority who links up with every team-mate on the pitch. (FM Role = Box to Box Midfielder - Support) (PI: Mark tighter) CMR N'Golo Kante – Kanté is a workhorse and is the epitome of the complete defensive midfielder. He possesses the great gifts of positional awareness, tacking and marking the opposition. An intelligent player, he makes up the shortcomings of his short stature, shuttling down the flanks and channels. (FM Role = Ball Winning Midfielder - Defense) RM Riyad Mahrez – Mahrez, who appears to be the best pure footballer of the team, but is not gifted with the highest football IQ, which doesn’t hinder him from breaking through opposing defences on a regular basis. He is pacey, has good flair and dribbling to get past their man, decision-making, passing and crossing. This allows him to pick out the right pass or cross at the right minute. (FM Role = Inverted Winger - Attack) (PI: Shoot More Often, Sit Narrower) LST Shinji Okazaki – A poacher in the box, his vision and finishing often led to him scoring many goals. (FM Role Defensive Forward = Defense) RST Jamie Vardy - Vardy has become a superstar in England thanks to his clean finishing and fast-paced counter-attacking style. A short and lightweight striker, Vardy outpaces the vast majority of Premier League defenders with ease, which is important to Ranieri’s pivotal strategy. (FM Role = Advanced Forward - Attack) I'd hope you've enjoyed another edition of the tactical replication series! Can't wait to hear your feedback! - Ciao! - - - - - "In an era where money counts for everything, I think we give hope to everybody." - Claudio Ranieri
  2. Hi Si forums, this is my first post. I am currently in my second season with Leicester. Last season we played an aggressive 4-3-3 which saw us finish 4th in the table after a remarkable turn of form at the back end of the season. I had planned to stick with this tactic but after poor opening results, Mahrez picking up a long-term injury and my inability to acquire a suitable backup I felt that I had to change the system. Here it is below: Player Instructions are as follows: GK: Distribute to Centre Backs, Back 4: Close Down Much Less, DL: Cross Aim Far Post, RW: Roam From Position, Mark DCL, STC: Mark DCR I have been struggling all season as shown by these results: Away form has been extremely poor, no away clean sheet in the league so far, even after shifting 3/4 of my budget on Romagnoli. We've scored 6 fewer goals than this stage last season but conceded around 15 more. Here's the team report: Nevertheless, Vardy is banging them in, Arthur is my favourite player on this year's FM, he is a beast, and finally Gray is doing fine too. Nobody else is performing well and most are performing below expectation: League table isn't bleak but I am 6-1 to be sacked, didn't meet League Cup expectations and they went me to obtain European football for next season. I am still in the Europa League, last 32 vs Kyiv. I have about £25m in the bank to spend in January if need be. Mahrez is 7 weeks to 4 months away from returning to full fitness. Here are the attributes of my players currently: I am desperate to keep my job and push on in the 2nd half of the season. If you were me, what would you change? All advice is appreciated and I thank you for reading this post.
  3. Anyone know why Leicester City's unrealistic budget isn't that good? I only get the budget of lowly £185k EDIT: Resolved I disabled the first transfer window budget for the first season please close this

  5. Hi all, Just testing a 4222 Counter Tactic with Leicester City and thought people might be interested to try it out. Some screen shots and video plus the link to the tactic. Good Luck and be interesting to see how people get on with it. Tactic - http://www.fm-base.co.uk/forum/share-download-fm-17-tactics/362209-4222-brazils-samba-football-charm-football.html Video -
  6. So I've decided to start a Leicester save - I know its late - and this is kinda a Career Update thread but I'm focusing more on tactics = good results, not buy players = good results. My goal is to win the Premier League by 2026. Set the clock ticking.... now! I think we've all realised (Claudio Ranieri included) that Leicester's reputation has shot up following their shock title win in the 2015-16 season. So sitting back, defending tight and hitting teams on the counter with Vardy and Musa, is no longer an option against the mid table sides. Leicester are now expected to beat the mid table sides 3 or 4 nil.
  7. Hello everyone, I hope I'm posting this on the right place. Does anyone have a save where Leicester got relegated in the first season or even second? If yes, I'm really interested in it, I wanted to manager a fallen Leicester with no stars, only Vardy having a party in the Championship and then leading the team back to Premier League Champions.
