  1. Afternoon all. I'm in a celebratory mood. For the last six months, I feared my club would become extinct over the course of this summer. Indeed, it's not unfair to say that we were just five days from liquidation when the club was taken over on Friday, thanks to irresponsible owners and terrifying levels of debt. As a result, it's little wonder our luck finally ran out on the pitch, which is why we find ourselves outside the Football League for the first time in the club's history at the start of the coming season. However, the dark days are hopefully now all behind us, and because I currently can't stop thinking about the club, I figured it was a good time to take them on in a new save. Unfortunately it will be a retro save, but I *will* be buying FM20, simply so I can take this challenge on again from the bottom. For now though, I'll have to make do with starting in League One in FM13. The aims of the save are pretty straight forward, it will be a one-club save until I feel I can take the club no further, but I want to both take on and beat the big boys wherever possible. Ideally my transfer policy will focus on signing and developing young players, but there are no specific rules as such. While I'm not a fan of using the editor, I have made one correction to the game's database - in 2012 Notts' Meadow Lane home had a capacity that was restricted to 16,947. I have altered that to the stadium's official capacity of 20,300. Other than that, everything remains the same. Game details: FM13, medium database, 25,000 players. Leagues from England (BSP & above) Scotland (Third Division & above) Germany (Third Division & above) Ireland (First Division & above) Norway (second division & above) and Sweden (second division & above) Holland (Jupiler League & above) The manager is a fictionalised version of myself in 2012 (he even shares my first name), a 32 year old born in England from a Scottish family, but unlike me he managed to play the game professionally. He retired injured at 30, and gets his first crack at management at the club his career began at.
  2. A very large edit to this opening post for those who followed previously. If you haven't read this thread before, feel free to ignore this bold section. When I got a new laptop for Christmas, I thought this save (and FM13) was done. Unfortunately, family life has prevented me from having the solid chunk of time I'd need to get stuck into a new career on a newer version, so I've had to go back to FM13 for a fix of the game as having an established career allows me to play for 30 minute chunks here and there. However, the Roma version didn't make the transfer from the old laptop, so I'm back to Scotland which I'll explain further down. The things you do for FM, right? Evening all My last attempt at a new thread (previous threads here and here) crashed and burned in record time after I prematurely thought I'd be able find time to play following the arrival of mini-Withnail number 2. However, over the last couple of weeks I've found time to watch the entire back catalogue of Breaking Bad (for the first time... I know, I know. Don't judge me.) so I figure I'm clear to come back! That means I've got lots of reading to do of all of your threads, but I shall get to that... Anyway, some of you will be aware of this: An infamous headline after the club I've selected to manage beat John Barnes' Celtic side in the Scottish Cup back in 2000. You may not be aware however that the headline had been used before, in the late 70s, in Liverpool's local newspaper after an outstanding Ian Callaghan performance ("Super Calley Goes Ballistic, QPR Atrocious.") Enough, Withnail. What's the objective of the save? EDIT: The original plan was to stay in Scotland and put Celtic to the sword initially, then grind both the Glasgow giants into the dirt for years to come before having a crack at Europe. However, I decided later on that I was ready for a move, hence the (EDIT again) now deleted second chapter. If the right move comes up though I will move on, especially now I have a more powerful laptop. The details FM13.3 with no edits. Leagues loaded from England (BSP & above) Scotland (Third Division & above) Germany (Third Division & above) France (National & above) Norway (2nd tier & above) Sweden (2nd tier & above. Medium database, 25,000 players. The manager 32 year old Johann Andersson is the man in the hotseat. The Swede spent most of his playing career in the lower reaches of Scottish football before a knee injury prematurely ended his career.
  3. Just recently got Fm13. One question:how are the qualification Booths allocated for the Asian Champions league,AFC Cup and President cup?
  4. BSC Old Boys' Elderly Care Center Greetings! I have been silently lurking on these forums for many years now, and I particularly enjoyed reading numerous career updates, which have kept me away from playing... until now. Since I have given up on my self-imposed exile from the game, might as well share my progress here. This save is one I have tried many times before - often with crushing failure. Let's see if I can fare better this time around. The Challenge Only players that are 31 years old or older can play. This means no youth academy products, nor current players in the squad that are younger than the age limit. The rule applies to competitive games, thus friendlies are open to trials of younger players. I can sign any player, even if younger than 31 - they'll simply have to wait. The challenge adds financial difficulties since it will not be possible to nurture talent and make a profit - development will be solely linked to results on the pitch. Credits to @Braumiller and his Dad's Army FM14 Challenge for being the inspiration behind this save. The Club It seemed fitting to take on this challenge with Basler Sportclub Old Boys, not only due to the name but also for having the old versus young heads-up against Young Boys Bern. The club is rather unknown in Switzerland. Eren Derdiyok and Breel Embolo have played in Old Boys' youth teams in the past, and I'll try to bring the former back one day (the latter is not in-game). The Save I am playing this with FM13, with only the first two divisions in Switzerland loaded. That is all my poor old laptop can handle I'm afraid. I went on holiday for a season, waiting for Old Boys to come up into the Swiss second division, Challenge League. The manager will be the 34 years old Swiss-American, semi-professional former player Stefan Heppke. As an avid follower of the MLS, I'll use my knowledge to bring some of the players to Switzerland. What are the expectations? Narrow tactics and emphasis on short passes to keep possession and preserve bodies, but ultimately see playing staff outpaced and suffering numerous injuries; Continuous transfer season all year long in a hurry to improve the squad, with a few familiar faces along the way; A need to get promoted to the Super League asap, and thus leaving the financial pitfall that is the second division; Many years of survival and mediocrity, with the hope of one day reaching some sort of glory.
  5. So after my last save got corrupted I had to start a new career. Having weighed my options, I decided to go home – really close to home, in fact. Not only am I a Dane managing in the Danish league. The team is my actual hometown club, the stadium literally located less than a mile from my house. I am using two editor files, but one is a self-made name fix and the other purely to make said stadium match its real life equivalent (the Danish 2nd Division may not be the most thoroughly researched in the game). No other changes have been made to the database. The manager is – me. For all intents and purposes. My backstory is made up but the only part that’s completely unrealistic is my own playing experience, as I felt that no manager without at least a semi-pro career behind him would ever get a job at this level in Denmark. Other than that, I will try to do the job as if it were actually me doing it. This “realistic” approach probably means progress will be a lot slower. I will also strive for a more coherent and “narrative” writing style. I actually quite enjoy the premise of the FM Stories forum – except for one thing: the massive walls of text and the ban on images, neither of which work very well with my short attention span - ooh, shiny! So think of this as basically an FMS story, but with pictures. Having said that, apologies for the lengthy introduction. Things will pick up once I get to the actual football. Also, any feedback is as always very welcome and much appreciated! All characters appearing in this work are fictitious. Any resemblance to real persons, living or dead, is probably intended…
  6. (I've really aged myself with this title, haven't I? 1990 that this monstrosity came out... crumbs!) Evening all. It's been a good few months since I've been a regular in here after the death of my last save, but I'm hoping to put that right with another long-term effort, and that also means I've got a lot of reading to do to catch up with some of your saves! I shall be cracking on with that over the next few days... It's no secret in these parts that my most enjoyable saves over the last few years have been based in the Nordics, and after a couple of years trying to follow up my favourite ever career (no images on that thread now after photobucket decided they wanted to commit commercial suicide) I've felt a calling to go back to Norway. To ensure this save has its own independence from the last, I've decided to start the career a year earlier (that means 2012, as I'm still on FM13) and I've also decided to use fake players, for the first time in any FM career. Last time I committed to staying in Norway until my club was the biggest side in the world - doing that twice in the same country on the same version of FM is a bit of a stretch, but I may go down that route, or I may look to move on if my feet start itching. I guess time will tell. As you may have guessed from the title, I've already decided where I'll be based, which means I'll be able to satisfy my need for a lower-league beginning to the tale. I'm also keen to develop an identity for the side that differs from the 4-4 effin 2 I build towards in my previous saves, so I'll be playing 4-3-3 throughout, which should aid the Norwegian national team while I'm here, who tend to play the same way. Game details: FM13.3 (no edits) Leagues loaded (second tier & above unless stated otherwise): Belarus, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Germany (third tier & above) Sweden (fourth tier & above), Norway (third tier & above) Medium database 28,000 players The manager Dane Johan Andersen is again the man in the manager's chair. He starts off at 31 years of age, a former full-back who was a steady pro across the Nordic region, but never got close to a move to his beloved Everton. (Maybe one day as a manager, but not for many, many years.) While he was born in Copenhagen, his mother's family are from the Norwegian city of Kristiansand, which is where he moved his young family to after an enforced retirement thanks to a severe knee injury. He was lucky to get a coaching gig straight away, but he had bigger targets in mind in the near future...
  7. Anyone still have the rule_groups.zip file laying around and/or willing to make a few changes for me in a custom US file? Long story...
  8. I'm trying to maximize the font size in fm13. But I couldn't find how to control special attributes box. I want to change its' row height and vertical offset (or align it to bottom). https://ibb.co/c7Vm6Q
