  2. A bit of moaning. With a schedule like that for just promoted team: They dare to do things like that:
  3. A New Era At Vicarage Road | Watford FC | Football Manager 2018 A new era at Vicarage Road begins as SizzlingPopcorn is named Watford FC's new manager. The board expects the club to finish mid-table in the English Premier League this season. It will be a tough road ahead, however, anything is possible! This first episode is an overview of the squad, staff, and finances. You can watch the full episode here. Database: FMInside FM18 Data Update 2018-2019 season!
  4. I'm managing Hartlepool United in it's 3rd year in the EPL after 4 straight promotions and currently defending EPL champs (all realistic things, i know). Since the beginning I've had my own wage structure in place to remain as profitable as possible. example: The 1st year in the EPL was £25k/w, 2nd year was £40k/w. I have quite a few incredibly good players who are now all asking for big wages or moves to superclubs. I'm talking £80-180k/w. The board will allow up to KP: £325k, FT: £185k. I'm spending a total of £687k/w out of £2.5m/w allowed. That's £20m/y less than when Pompy won the FA Cup. We know their story after. In comparison of stadium size(i built a new one and expanded it) in my save, currently in 2023/24, Bournemouth is paying their top player £120k/w with the majority from £50-95k. They've been mid table since the start. The question is: Does the AI know it's financial stability? In the past I've used the max amount of funds i could to make a winning squad and normally it results in mostly financial loss. But the game goes on. Perhaps the TV money is enough for the time being. I, however, am unsure of a 20k, maybe soon to be 27k seat stadium club paying those wages. Thanks for any input.
  5. This time last year I was a complete and utter n00b to Football manager. A Year has gone buy, and now I am just an utter n00b at the game. I had my successes last season, in particular at USL Dunkerque (read all about that here), and had a pretty good German Lower League save going before the database borked on me. Not mentioned at all were my horrible first attempts. Stirling, Carlstad, Kettering in a regen only league...but I had fun. And learning the ins and outs of the game has been a fun challenge, so I was looking forward to this years FM 18, especially with some of the newer features and the like. My first save is a Journeyman on the Beta. It's not going well, I coached three teams in less than a year. As an aside, if you really want a challenge, try and manage Bognor Regis. I think the teams average determination is like 5.5. I resigned after going 0-1-11 there, and ended up at Eastleigh, where I went 8-1-7 and was fired for not meeting expectations, and am now at Nuneaton, where we are midtable and challenging for top 8. If the club stays solvent. But while I'm having fun with that, I wanted to do a top tier save as well. And while I like my local team, I refuse to play anything MLS until they streamline their rules. I swear they complicate them just to be different. Different isn't always better. Now, I lived in England from 81-84, dad was in the Air Force. Back then it was Everton and Liverpool, which is why I followed Arsenal for awhile I think, but having gotten away from 'Football' (Moving to Montana after living in Germany will do that to you), the local MLS club and my interest in FM has sparked an interest in a lot of things Football these days. When my wife knows Barcelona plays for La Liga and Messi is pretty good, I consider that a success. :-) Anyhow, one of the stories that I find interesting this season is Crystal Palace. I remember seeing them on TV back in the day, and remember they were a team that was good before I got there and better after I left. That this effect also happened with Kaisersalutern FC, the Denver Broncos, the Atlanta Falcons and Phoenix/Arizona Cardinals is, I swear, cosmic coincidence. And I only threatened to move in 2015 when the Royals won the World Series, so there. Anyhow, I remember Palace getting better in the late 80's, being relegated, getting back in, getting relegated, getting back in, and then having some Cup success the past couple of years while being solidly midtable in the EPL. I was surprised when Allardyce resigned, especially when he didn't get another job right away somewheres, and though de Boer was a solid hire. Apparently the only thing I am worse at than FM 'skillz' is Football punditry... Anyhow, I wanted something different to try, and sure, its easy to start a game with Barca or Juve or City and see how you can keep them up top, and I thought about doing that. But Palace strikes me as a team thats good and can be great. And if I manage them for 451 minutes and score a goal in any of my first four games, I'll be doing better than de Boer did. And frankly, I can't do worse. Well, I did at Bognor Regis, but thats a different story that will never be told! :-) So, in a move many are considering to be a mistake, Steve Parish and the Crytal Palace board announce the hiring of Callan Andrews. "A long time Palace fan, the London born Andrews was well on his way to football success. The 29 year old Andrews first played at 17 for Nuneaton, before moving to Blackpool, and then to Brentford. He made international waves in 2014, after scoring in his first three international Caps for England, he refused a transfer from Brentford to Torino, instead promising to play his contract out at Brentford. The next two years saw the midfielder help Brentford back to the Championship. WIth Brentfords own management in flux after the departure of Mark Warburton, Andrews signed with Sunderland, but before he played a game with the "Black Cats" he was severely injured in a car crash whilst on vacation in Italy. After nearly losing his leg due to injury, his playing career was over, but Andrews threw himself into coaching. Having previously obtained his A License, he worked his way up to obtaining his Continental pro license, while coaching at Brentford. While his hiring is seen as a surprise by many, if he approaches this coaching job the same way he approached his job on the pitch, Crystal Palace is getting a person who will get the most out of his team, and himself." Crystal Palace is my house. Throw as many stones as you want, but remember, you break it, you buy it! Thanks for reading and following! Jellico73
  6. Hii all i'm playing FM 2016 and right now having problem comply with the financial fair play in EPL and also UEFA in seson 2015/16 with CHELSEA. I dont really made much changes on the Club finance and only signed Ryan Betrand for 27.5m with 76k/week for wages. I also extend contract for Kurt Zouma by improving 20k on his wages. But i have no ideas why the financial fair play for both showing red. Anyone help?!
  7. Hello, finished fourth in the EPL, said good enough for champions league... Much needed $ also won FA cup, says Im in Europa League... Really? Why the demotion?
  8. Here's my formation, roles and main squad: southampton Here's my team instruction: instructions So guys, i'm into my third season with Southampton, so far so good, i won PL+FA Cup on my first year, and i won all of the trophies (5) on the second season including CL, and my squad is based on 17.3.1 update so yeah there's Gabbiadini and i also managed to get Gary Cahill and Moussa Dembele (Frenchman striker not the Belgian midfielder) on my first season so there's maybe not too much changes on my Soton squad. And i've been playing with 2 tactics (the other one is 424 Wide with Winger) and 4123 (Inside forwards) being my main tactic, well i'm wondering if there's any advice or tips which can be applied to my 4123 tactic since it's sometimes inconsistent with chances (too much long shots, and struggling when facing defensive team) I've succeeded (luckily) on winning trophies but i don't believe in "dont fix it if it isn't broken", i believe that changes are needed to be made because i won't spend big on transfer windows like other PL clubs so i'm looking for any "tweaks" which maybe can help my tactic becomes more effective in the next season. Here's my result from the past 2 seasons My first season: 30W 4D 3L 72 goals 10 conceded. My 2nd season: 2nd season table I'd like to play possession+attacking football but also taking caution in the defending because i really avoid being conceded more than any teams on the table . And somehow i really need those advice from more experienced FM player like you guys because i just love to learn something "new" about the game and also if there is any tactical principality that maybe i've quite misunderstood on this game because i need to maximize the effectiveness of my tactic and my players. Are there: any player roles needed to be changed? team instruction to add/remove? any player instruction to add? or any of your insight on how to improve this tactic! Thank you
  9. Im Brazilian, started to play FM17 at Brazilian Leagues, got success, World Club Championship Champions but now... it's different, really hard to play at EPL Championship with Nottingham Forest... - Work permits - Tactics are knew by players, but still struggle - Loan limitations there are some YouTube channel or Guide to learn how to play at Lower Leagues? Thanks in advance!
  10. I've been following, playing and managing (in FM) football for quite a while now. Just recently though, when watching games especially in the English Premier League, I've noticed that teams are starting to use the 3 defender + 2 wingback (or 5 at the back). Those formations rose to prominence in the 80's. I'm just wondering though why we're seeing a resurgence. And why they're not so common in Spain.
  11. Just have a quick question around the wages side of things, for FFP in the Premier League. This warning below has popped up this season (currently at end of August): And here are the finer details: Since being notified of this, I sold a couple of players and the projected wages dropped below the £88m target, but over the last 3-4 weeks (with no extra additions) this figure has crept up to £99.65m. I'm not 100% sure, but I think this might be to do with the rule around your total wages not increasing by more than £7m from the previous season? But this season I'm in the Champions League for the first time, so my question is that will I be OK by the end of the season once it takes into account my new & improved incomes?
  12. So I've decided to start a Leicester save - I know its late - and this is kinda a Career Update thread but I'm focusing more on tactics = good results, not buy players = good results. My goal is to win the Premier League by 2026. Set the clock ticking.... now! I think we've all realised (Claudio Ranieri included) that Leicester's reputation has shot up following their shock title win in the 2015-16 season. So sitting back, defending tight and hitting teams on the counter with Vardy and Musa, is no longer an option against the mid table sides. Leicester are now expected to beat the mid table sides 3 or 4 nil.
  13. Hi, I think that for EPL teams (and others but only sure on EPL) the Reserve section of the team should be active. I know for teams like Real Madrid that their B team plays games but the EPL reserve teams appear to have no use. I am not suggesting that you add all the official full Reserve squads for every team in the game but for the active leagues then their reserves (demoted players or players you offer contracts in the reserves) should also play games as it is unreasonable to loan out 20-30 Reserve players each year and demoting players is more realistic in life. I think this should work in a similiar way to the youth teams when we are offered players at the end of each season. thank you
  14. Hey everyone, Hoping I could get some help. I am playing as west ham and am not doing so well. I am dominating in the euro league but when it comes to to prem I can not buy a win. I am winning 4,5-0 in europe and then lose 3,4-1 in the prem. Everyone is fully fit and I am playing a 4-2-3-1 wide. Any help would be great.
