  1. I find this game a complete pain in relation to contracts. Regardless of the length of contact, players seen to ask for a new one 12 months after signing. Bear in mind that with every new contract you pay a loyalty bonus ans agent fees it gets ridiculous. it is so annoying.
  2. I am experiencing two frustrations in my game at present related to expired contracts: 1. The contract of my inherited DoF expired in the summer yet he remains at the club on a rolling contract. Ideally I'd like to turf him out and install my own man/get rid entirely, but there seems to be no mechanism for me to do this, or way to suggest to the board to change him? 2. A Scottish striker had his contract expire over the summer, yet if I try to sign him for my English club I have to pay compensation. He's been on a rolling contract for four months now and shows no signs of leaving. This doesn't strike me as very realistic, unless a player had a bad injury record a club would either give him a new deal or he would leave (he was a regular starter last season). I remember having the same problem in a much older version of FM, seems nothing has been done to fix it!
  3. Had this player for the last two seasons on loan with no work permit issue. Confirmed the loan for my 3rd season however didn’t realise he didn’t have a wp! However when I go to apply for a new one, (which it tells me I can do) there is nothing under the contract tab. Im only in July so I’m guessing this could be an automatic process but if anyone can shed any light on this it’d be great!
  4. Is there any way to mass-edit in one-go multiple players (for example their clubs, nationality, etc.) in the Database change screen (as shown in the screenshot below) or do we have to go through every different players and modify them one by one? Thanks.
  5. This screen here, when players leave the club at the end of their trials. I'd like to see it converted into a scouting like page where you have columns i.e. Name, wage request and assistant recommendation (value out of 100). It would make things a lot easier than clicking each player individually. Especially in lower league/non league where you may have 100's of players on trial. Loving the new game FYI.
  6. So far I am loving FM19 and into my 4th season with Man United there is 1 thing that is annoying me so much. When i buy a star player or a wonder kid etc. i try to give them 4-5 year deals as soon as possible to tie them down to the club. But within literally 6 months (i.e. the summer transfer window to January) they have a "pre-concern" where they want a new contract. This makes literally no sense as they all have 4 and a half years remaining on the current one. Normally i would ignore this but i have noticed whenever they have the pre-concern their determination will often decrease by 1. This has absolutely destroyed my wage budget as they all want £50,000 wage increases with massive bonuses even when their current contract looks damn fine to me. Wouldn't it make more sense to wait maybe 2-3 years before a player wants an improved contract because it is happening so frequently for every single player on my team. So is anyone else having this occurrence when managing bigger teams or just me?
  7. If I have a player who has a Min Fee Release Clause for Higher Division Clubs... and I've just clinched promotion to the top tier, but we haven't officially 'moved' leagues yet... Am I going to have to sell him if bids come in from currently top tier teams?
  8. I have wondered if it wouldn't be better if we modify GK contract so we will be signing him for different status. For outfield players we have key player, first team, rotation .... and now it is the same for GK but I think it would be better if they had 1st GK, 2nd GK, 3rd GK or young GK. In my opinion it fits better for GK. What's your opinion?
  9. Hi, just tried offering Ozil a new contract but I get told he doesn't want to discuss one as he is currently unhappy at the club. However, when I look at his profile, I see nothing but happiness and while I understand him being unhappy with me 11 months ago for touting his services, he has been on fire form wise this season, has played in more than half the games so far and we have been through a transfer window and a half since the original problem. Should the unhappiness for "touting" really last 12 months?
  10. When a new player is signed the only suggestions that come up from scouts/directors/assistant are pretty much player wage and squad status. Too many times the player comes up with a completely blank contract suggestion and says "you have to come up with a proposal first." The only items we really know what to fill in then are the above mentioned wage and squad status. Suggesting appearance fees, contract length, and especially loyalty bonus and the agent fee is a complete guesswork. This is especially important for smaller teams with small transfer budgets. There is no way I would even enter into contract discussions with a player I want to sign for free, if I know that he will ask millions in loyaly bonus and agent fees, as these are taken directly out of the transfer budget. Sometimes it's not even possible to sign these players or extend current players' contracts, because they actually request more in fees than I have in my transfer budget, and there is no way of knowing this before entering contract negotiations.
  11. Hi in many of my saves when I take control of a small (in population) national team (Gibraltar,Liechtenstein,Andorra) always I have the same problem, many of my key players can't find new contract with a club when their old one expires even if they have key role in their last team.. Some players always can't find contract for example (Benji Buchel Goalkeeper from Liechtenstein, Jake Gosling midified from Gibraltar)and many others..It is really annoying because they retire very young and IRL they always find contract even in very low level...
  12. An icon at the start of the new game to randomise all contract lengths and expiry dates. Once you have started your 4th or 5th game then the same players expiring for the first and second season becomes a bit frustrating. Random expiry would create different transfers and different happiness of players in the first season and give starting a new game a different feel. Thanks
  13. I am confused by the constant harping by my players to play "first team" football - here's why: I play a 4-2-3-1 formation in the EPL, usually with one replacement for each position, for a total of 22 players. Then I usually add a backup or hot prospect for the leftover positions to max out my squad at 25. However, I've been managing a team for 10 years and still can not for the life of me understand why my players are complaining to me about a lack of first-team football. First of all, NONE of the players have a contract above "Rotation." Their agents didn't like it, and they charged more for that (which is their job, I understand), but ultimately, it is the player who agrees to the contract. Also, for the majority of the team, playing half of the season (or more, due to injuries) should certainly justify their "rotation" status - let alone "Backup," or "Hot Prospect!" (How many "Backup" goalkeepers do we see in a season?) I feel that this is a VERY undefined area of the game that has neither been addressed adequately in the manual, or in the game as far as player or manager expectations go. As managers, we should not be getting complaints from players that acknowledge they are backups or hot prospects, period. The prospect of signing for us may be less attractive (hence the higher salaries required to entice them - fair enough) but they should "know" what they signed up for. Comments and feedback welcome, naturally. Saethdar
  14. I think it would be better in negotiations when the other party makes something semi-negotiable i.e. the agent puts in a min release clause which you don't really want in the contract but have to agree to in order to proceed with negotiations. If they set it at £25m and it can only be increased up to £30m, I should at least be able to change it to £30m non-negotiable.
  15. I did a little search and couldn't find anything like this so I thought maybe it could be fun to see what the rest of you have come across. As the title says i'm wondering who are the most greedy players you've come across, mostly i'm thinking about over the top players who are in decline or close to end of their career but still ask for a pretty high wage if you try to sign them. I can give an example just to make it more clear what i'm asking but since I've barely had time to play FM18 most of my examples will be from FM17. I was trying a save where I started at a national team, I picked Denmark cause I knew they have a few good players and I figured it could be fun new challenge for me, after finishing among the last 8 in the knockout stages and losing to Italy 3-2 in overtime I was offered a chance to take over Arsenal (Wenger had retired and I don't know why they picked me) so I signed for them. I did a quick little look at players who's contracts were expiring/expired and I noticed Adebayor was a free agent, I thought for laughs let's see if he would wanna come back to Arsenal, at this point he was 35 and his best stats were Finishing and Off The Ball which were at 16, don't remember the rest of the stats, but anyway he was far from being a solid EPL striker, but when I went to discuss signing him he asked for £62.000 p/w with a lot of bonuses and a signing bonus of over a million with his agent asking for more. I figured no way am I paying that and thought maybe it's just him so I tried to approach Berbatov who's contract was expiring but was older then Adebayor and playing in the French 2nd division earning 3k a week, but also he wanted high wages, he wanted to go from 3k p/w to 66k p/w and then there was the bonuses, the sign on fee and agent fee weren't as bad as Adebayor but still pretty high for a guy close to his 40's. Those are the examples that come to mind right now, hopefully someone else has examples of players who are over the top or at the end of their career who still ask for high wages.
  16. I had a quick search and couldnt find this topic or one that answered it. Just a quick question. Has signing regens been made a lot harder this year on fm2018? I am arsenal and only 1 regen has even discussed a contract with me. Just wondering if it has been made harder. Cheers
  17. Hi, I've got this clause in a few players' contracts, one of which has just picked up a fairly lengthy injury. So what I want to know is under what circumstances can I activate the clause, and how do I go about it?
  18. I don't know why this contract promises phase is needed in the first place, as some offers go directly to wage negotitations but wage demands from players differ significantly when you choose different squad status for player in the contract promises screen. For example, i wanted to offer a new contract to one of my players and contract promises screen came. Default demand from the player was rotation. I accepted and proceed to the wage negotiations. His demand was "squad status: rotation and weekly wage: 85k/w". But when i reload and offer hot prospect squad status in promises screen, he also accepts that and his wage demand suddenly drops to 40k/w. This is just one of many same examples. I think this is quite weird because i expect a player and his agent to know his worth and have a regular wage demand in mind before the negotiations apart from the squad status offered. Small changes in demand is okay but this is huge and it can be exploited. Am i wrong?
  19. I'm debating between having, vs fighting against, min fee release clauses for my high prospect players, and wonder what others think about this. Here's my basic take: 1. I usually play in mid level clubs, meaning if I ever find a great prospect and then tutor him to perfection, it's just a matter of time before some big club wants to come take him from me. So, realistically, what is my best bet at preventing his departure? (player happiness notwithstanding) 2. Usually I opt to force no MFRC's, if I can. In the more recent updates (or maybe it was just FM 17), agents are becoming more demanding and sometimes I can't exclude it even if I want to. 3. If I don't have a MFRC, the convo usually goes like this later on: "Why did you block my transfer to Barcelona/Man Utd/etc... it would have been a great opportunity, yada yada..." the only answer that won't completely upset them usually is: "The finances weren't right. If they come back with XXXX bid then I'll sell." "okay, great. let's talk numbers..." Then you go through a song and dance where your player forces you to pick a number that you basically know that said megaclub can/will easily pay, and that's that. 4. Option B.... try to add a MFRC to the contract, but make it egregiously high. Often times I've noticed that if I pay a player just a little more, then I can put on $180mm MFRC vs the, say, $30mm they originally ask for. If my ultimate goal is retention, then it's worth it. Here's are my two questions -- A. Does having a MFRC (vs none) dissuade the AI from attempting making bids at levels below the MFRC? Which is to say, if I don't want to have a conflict with a player, am I better off with him having a $180mm MFRC vs non at all, knowing that the AI is much less likely to ever approach him in the first place? I can't prove this, but I feel like maybe it's the case. B. I can't seem to recall, but does anybody know if the player dialog options (such as in the convo mentioned above) change at all if they have a MFRC? Typically the player essentially asks, "what priced do you require to accept the bid?" - if they have a MFRC on their contract, do they still ask you that question - and demand a commitment to sell - if a bid comes in that's below the MFRC? I can't believe that I haven't had this scenario come up, but I can't recall if the dialog is different. All thoughts and experiences are welcomed!
  20. I was playing as Stirling Albion on FM17 and and had just agreed a fee of 5.75k for a CB from Clyde. The player was asking for around £600 per week on a part time contract. But, I was only allowed to offer £190. I adjusted my wage budget to around £4500, and my committed spending spending was £3600 - Why was I not allowed to offer more than £190? I lost out on the player because of it, am I missing something?
  21. I've been in many situations where I offer a contract to a player, think their demands are reasonable and we finalise the discussion...but then someone else comes in and makes an offer. They mull it over for about a week, but you see they've joined one of the other clubs, often a lower reputation than yours, because they offered a better contract. Well, damn, I could have paid you that much too if you asked me! So why doesn't it become more dynamic, and the player/agent can come back and say, 'hey, x are offering y, match them and I will still consider joining you'. They could mention exact details of the contract, just the important aspects, or even vagaries, depending on personality and other factors?
  22. I've had the issue where I am trying to attract players from higher reputation teams and they are never interested in opening contract talks with me. I then try to persuade them into joining and have tried various conversation choices to do so. Despite various attempts to do this I have never convinced a player to start contract talks. Is this a reoccurring issue for other users and if so what could be done about it for FM 2017?
  23. Football Manager Touch 2017 Android Sony Z3 Tablet SGP612 Android 6.0.1 Build 23.5.A.1.291 FM17 Version 17.1.2 I have played 10 seasons with Weston-Super-Mare and have just been promoted to the Premiership as a back drop to my comments. Humanising Players I appreciate this is a tough thing to code but I have noticed a few things which do not work in the real world of people and players. I believe this is largely around a player’s life desperation, which is not factored in to decisions. I appreciate some of these comments may be highlighted elsewhere but I have followed a few scenarios to conclusion to see where it leads. Players leaves club due to broken promises. After promising players to get them to sign for my club in the Sky Bet Championship (often sign more players) I thought I had achieved this by the volume & quality signed (10 new players). Despite then breaking these promises my team was promoted to the Premiere league. The following season (start of Premiership) these players requested transfers away from the team and signed for low placed Championship teams rather than play in the Premiere league. I don’t believe a player would pass up on playing in the top flight after winning promotion to join a relegation battle in the Championship. Success would negate promises in real terms. Players not signing contracts out of desperation. Having come through the pyramid my players are on very low wages. Mostly this wasn’t a problem and I tied all players down to long contracts. After reaching the Premiership some players asked for better contracts (fair enough) but asked for salaries I couldn’t physically offer as it was non-negotiable by the player and the board didn’t allow salaries to that level at my club (Existing £7k p/w with the player wanting £50k p/w). As I have 3 more years left on the contract at £7k I decided if you must go, then I will play you for 3 more years and let you go on a free at the end. Current salary is approx. £364k a year. I can offer £25k p/w or £1,300,000 but the player refuses. I don’t believe a player would turn down £2.8m in base salary to leave on a free transfer at 32 years old. This is without enhanced bonus payments. EXAMPLE: David de Gea was on £40k p/w with Man Utd. After his deal to Real Madrid collapsed rather than be on £40k p/w for the next year to leave on a free he took the £200k p/w for 3 years because he couldn’t turn down millions of pounds a year for no reason yet my players are doing this. Players of a suitable ability or slightly higher ability in lower leagues remain on a free transfer rather than sign for you. Players who are released by clubs and who cannot find a new club turn down a professional contract and remain unemployed for several years before retiring. A ex League 2 player would sign for a VNL team if it was the only option. Real players would have to pay the rent so if the choice was go work in Argos or sign for a VNL team then I believe plenty of players would do so and particularly youth players from the Premiership in real life drop multiple leagues to find a club and a salary. I experienced none of this. The not signing mentioned above also happens for your players. I had players leave on a free because of wages. Sit on a free transfer for 2 years with no income before signing back with my club. Why would someone go be unemployed for two years when their old team is desperate to have them? Signing new players who either refuse to talk or refusing a contract because it the salary isn’t high enough or they feel you can’t meet demands (more prevalent in lower leagues) but then sign for often lower league teams on a lower salary. I had examples of players refusing a professional contract for a League 2 team at £1.2k p/w to sign for a VNL team on a part time contract for £700 p/w because they said I couldn’t meet their wage demands. Firstly, I don’t believe a pro contract would be turned down over a part time and if motivated by money why would they take the lower offer in a lower league. A player desperation factor which raises dramatically the longer they are out of work would make smaller clubs more attractive. Club Management · Weston-Super-Mare sign a new kit sponsor in the Premiership in 2025 worth £95k per year. Man Utd’s urinal cakes would attract more sponsorship money. Middlesbrough have a £1m deal for real this season (1 year remaining) with Bournemouth’s £2m for 1 season. In 10 years time with inflation £95k is unrealistic. · Despite reaching the premiership with a wage bill of salaries £2k p/w to £20k p/w (mostly around £6k p/w) and TOTAL player purchases over the 10 years of £1.5m (nearly all 70+ players were free transfers) my team don’t make a profit and are always broke. With such low outgoing and a small stadium the income from success would increase the bank balance quicker. · Selling players is often impossible. Over 10 years I have had less than 5 offers/sales on my players of which ZERO are from unsolicited offers seeing if I want to sell (in that I didn’t offer players at greatly discounted price to all clubs), nearly all players I no longer want sit in the reserves for 1 or 2 years before leaving on a free. This is particularly strange for players who performed well. I (personally) don’t want players older than 30/31 years old. Example: My team were promoted to League 1 and I have had a player who has scored 30 goals a season for 4 seasons at 31 years old. Valued at £200k and I offer at £20k with no takers. I often have had players in the Championship or League 1 who would be awesome for a League 2 side make no offers, leave on a free and then retire. The positive to my team (but still unrealistic) if I have a super player age 22 scoring for fun each season. No higher club ever steal them from me. While this has enabled me to keep excellent players until I'm done with them in reality bigger teams would snap up talent. · I have only played with WSM but no ex internationals who are 34+ and out of work are interested in my team regardless of the league I’m in unlike older versions of FM. By this I mean players from high countries and not Congo’s greatest player. · The club keeps signing poor doctors. I have a 4 star doctor but then after a few season I have about 4 extra doctors all 1 star or less. · Not enough good statistic club staff but untested. In previous versions, you could find a member of staff with excellent stats but completely untested so you could get a scout with excellent judgment skills. · This works in your favour but is technically unrealistic. Coming from a lower league the expectations in competitions are often very low. The board would set me a target of reaching round 1 proper in a cup but I start in round 2. So I instantly score a excellent competition rating from the board. · I’d expect there would be a small chance of a small team rising fast to be purchased by a Russian Billionaire or similar. If the club is rising fast and have a value of £1m it’s worth a punt to a investor. A takeover has never given any money for transfers or salary. Miscellaneous Despite the update the unlockables DO NOT unlock after achievement. Unless I have unknowingly turned off a setting I can’t see an option to interact with the media very often (outside of transfer deadline day). Thus all my stats are maxed out on all other areas but my media bar is empty.
  24. Has anyone else had trouble trying to renew messi's contract at Barcelona? He asks for 775k euro per week and 175k euro per appearance and 100k+ per goal. There's no way you can afford it.
  25. This is probably obvious to many of you by now, but I'm just about to sign Kimmich from Bayern and I've managed to reduce all other areas of his contractual demands substantially, but increase his 'Wages after X international caps' value...and because (by default) we don't have a real German national team he'll never meet this criteria. Might not be something you like to do (as it can break the immersion a tad), but it can mitigate against some crazy wage demands as you get further into the game. Bafflingly, he is my first german signing into a 5 year save.
