  1. Hi, I play in league one so I need two teams to rotate because of mid week games. I save two different team selections but before each game I have to change the player roles one by one. (ball winning - box to box) for example. Is there a way to save the player roles as well as team selection so I don't need to do it manually each time?
  2. Apologies if I have missed this feature in the game or if I am repeating a question/discussion elsewhere. Is it possible before each match to ask a member of staff (e.g. Assistant Manager) to suggest a tactical style (e.g. gegenpress) in addition to a formation (e.g. 4-4-2), and roles/duties? I have identified where to get suggestions about roles and duties, and there seems to be a suggested formation at the bottom of the drop down menu when selecting formation - but I haven't noticed where (if it is possible) I can ask staff for advice on tactical style. Any advice welcome. Thanks.
  3. Just watched the Alpha play through on YouTube. Thanks to the team for sharing it with us, was great to see. Thought it would be good to put my thoughts/observations in a thread for people to comment on and critique. Brief summary of things I noticed: Positives The new tactics system is an easy "guide". The styles of football could be replicated in previous versions, if the right instructions were used. Having said that, I do like it more now. I did not see any of the transitions in play - maybe I will be proved wrong when I see more comprehensive highlights of the match engine. Perfect for the new player, but has lots of depth for those FM old-timers. Training looks interesting - more emphasis now on dynamics and specific attribute growth etc. Probably the biggest and best change. VAR - its fun, and will be good to see where it applies. Induction - not relevant to me, but good for new players. Bundesliga licence - don't usually play Bundesliga, but I may do it this time around. Licensing is always good for FM. Constructive Criticisms UI - I wish they would focus less on things like colours and just make it easier to navigate. I have never had an issue with the new UI (since the sidebar) or colours. This version will have far too many hidden pages/too much info. I think the game needs a big cull of unnecessary pages, graphs, etc. I don't care for features like different colours for ratings in game. In my opinion, it just seems like wasted time where SI labour could be used on bigger and more landmark features. Match Engine - I play on 2D Classic, but the 3D looks virtually the same. I would rather have fixed goalkeepers and player animations etc than ball physics. Stadium upgrades are welcomed. I would love to one day play with the 3D engine all the time, but it does not feel real enough for me at the moment. Dynamics - I really did not feel a difference between '17 and '18 when it came to squad dynamics. Everything that affected dynamics did not change (conferences, feedback, mentoring), so the experience was not translated to the player. All I do in FM 18 is see it on a new screen and use the same responses/team talks when there is an issue. Are player promises fixed? Press conferences - all the same except for faces and background, people will get bored and leave to the assistant. Before match plans - I think many players will leave to the assistant. No real changes except a reskin, although it does look simpler in parts. Pre-match/half time talks - they all generate the same responses as FM 18. Players will learn what and when to say something. Transfers - no mention whatsoever of AI transfer dealings and fees etc. has the finances section been changed in anyway? All in all, with the exception of tactics and training, SI seem to be re-skinning and fixing issues that were created by the previous iterations of FM, rather than revolutionising the match engine, which has to be the next focus IMO. They listened, and have fixed the glaring gaps that FM 18 has. It may seem as though I listed more negatives, but I will be buying the game nevertheless. Let me know your thoughts.
  4. Hi Si forums, this is my first post. I am currently in my second season with Leicester. Last season we played an aggressive 4-3-3 which saw us finish 4th in the table after a remarkable turn of form at the back end of the season. I had planned to stick with this tactic but after poor opening results, Mahrez picking up a long-term injury and my inability to acquire a suitable backup I felt that I had to change the system. Here it is below: Player Instructions are as follows: GK: Distribute to Centre Backs, Back 4: Close Down Much Less, DL: Cross Aim Far Post, RW: Roam From Position, Mark DCL, STC: Mark DCR I have been struggling all season as shown by these results: Away form has been extremely poor, no away clean sheet in the league so far, even after shifting 3/4 of my budget on Romagnoli. We've scored 6 fewer goals than this stage last season but conceded around 15 more. Here's the team report: Nevertheless, Vardy is banging them in, Arthur is my favourite player on this year's FM, he is a beast, and finally Gray is doing fine too. Nobody else is performing well and most are performing below expectation: League table isn't bleak but I am 6-1 to be sacked, didn't meet League Cup expectations and they went me to obtain European football for next season. I am still in the Europa League, last 32 vs Kyiv. I have about £25m in the bank to spend in January if need be. Mahrez is 7 weeks to 4 months away from returning to full fitness. Here are the attributes of my players currently: I am desperate to keep my job and push on in the 2nd half of the season. If you were me, what would you change? All advice is appreciated and I thank you for reading this post.
  5. I am in the middle of a save and would like to use the Trequarista role as a lone striker in a 4-2-3-1 Wide system. I am playing a AS Roma in 2049 and this role would be a nod to history and Totti. I usually play with a CF-S/A at to with wingers and Fullbacks crossing the ball into the box. The AMC is either a SS-A or AP-S/A with PPM's plays killer balls Midfield two are a DP-D and MEZ-S I play usually with TI's stop GK short passing, close down more, play wide, and drop deeper Mentality is Standard. I am at work and will put up screenshots later... just want a few ideas or if I should try a different formation.
  6. Does Switch version have bug in match engine? I have both PC & ipad version and do not have this issue. The last time I had this experience was with FM16 (worse of all) then FM17 (but was fixed within a week with patch). FM18 PC & iPad was perfect for me - balanced and not much issue. Tactics: I only switch between 1 or 2 tactics per season (typically just positioning of the Midfielder; either CM or DM position) I buy the players according to the roles I want to play (to ensure those player best fit my system) I adjust the instructions only when necessary in game (not randomly changing from time to time). Players Attack - Sanchez, Dybala, Bale Midfield - Pogba, Matic, Sergei Mili.. Defence - Raphael, Bailley, Dier, Pierra Goalkeeper - De Gea Problem: Winning 5 games & losing 5 games consecutively randomly almost like a pattern. Opponent scoring almost all from far post crossing regardless of big or small teams. Inconsistency in players & team performance throughout 3 seasons. Midfielder cannot hold and losing possession like crazy or just standing like dummy. Attack missing open goals or looks like panic with stupid pass or shoot - how is it possible to miss at 3 on 1 with goalkeeper so many times in 1 match??? Even with the players I have, I feels like playing the 21 Squad in Premier League.... ADVISE???
  7. Hello there. I have recently got back into Football manager being playing since FM14. Started a save with BCFC as I support them IRL (we just survived relegation today KRO), and well I am starting to get very frustrated with the results. I am 3rd currently, coming of a 1-0 defeat to Fulham. I have attached some screenshots giving some context to the situation. I guess you could say I have been overachieving looking at the squad depth, I have had a lot of injuries to key players (Grounds, Maghoma). Formation: When I am at home against a team that isn't in the playoffs/playing well, I tend to opt for a 4-4-2. When away, I always tend to play with the 4-4-1-1 (shown in the attachment). I have made subtle changes to player roles/instructions in recent games to see if I can change my luck. For example, originally I had the left centre midfielder playing as a BWM, I have now changed to a centre mid on the defend duty. Looking at the below tactic, you can see a couple of players out of position, this is down to the injuries I mentioned earlier which have been a massive hit on the formations I play. Team Instructions: Again I have made subtle changes to the team instructions once again. Brought in the clear the ball to flanks. The idea behind this is to use the pace of the wingers to get forward quickly to then allow more crosses into the target man. I am indeed playing narrower. Trying to ensure that it is harder for us to be broken down in the middle along with sticking to positions because we don't have the best creative players meaning we lack creativity in the final third. Team Report: Team report is useful here aswell, shows me that we have conceded a lot from crosses due to the high amount of assists from these areas. Furthermore we have one of the worst passing stats in the league. To be third in the league is good, but I feel us slipping off now with some poor results to Wolves and Middlesborough where we should've done better. If anyone could give me some advice it would be greatly appreciated. I haven't messed around with FM18 too much but it feels the same as the previous versions in terms of form being linked a lot to morale and the tactics you deploy. I don't see any glaringly obvious things that should be changed and ideally don't want to change tactics either. We have high determination overall in the squad along with teamwork, maybe I should try a higher pressing game where we look to go more direct with our play? Thanks in advance !!!
  8. Hey there guys not sure if this is the right part of the forum I should be posting in, I'm in need of some advice from below the Conference North/South please?. I've done this save before since FM13/14 but it's been harder since I've played below my home town team Stockport County.

  10. Hey everyone, I am just looking for some advice or thoughts. I am starting a Derby County save. Any advice on tactics, training or transfer targets would be most welcome. I am wondering is there any championship grade shortlists of potential signings available? This would help a lot.
  11. Hi Everyone, I apologize for the long post in advance. In FM16, I started lower league management in Belgium 3rd division and was managing Portuguese Premier league in about 9 seasons. I really loved the rise up. Although I was using my own tactics and ideas, I was never paying attention to the depth in it (so just creating tactics around player skills, hoping something would happen). I never even watched any match beyond "Key", let alone analyzing games on Prozone. Once I saw the rise, I realized I wasn't being a true manager - I mean, I only know how to move around things, just not the things that work in conjunction with each other. So basically, for example, I knew what short pass vs long pass was, but didn't know how to effectively use it. I knew if I go to fluid from flexible, what it would do, just not how it will affect individual players or my team's shape (whatever that means). Prior to buying FM17, I tried to read up on a lot on tactics, watch videos etc. I just can't seem to focus enough or pay enough attention to details. In FM17, I started an unemployment challenge for about 90 times, only to not go through with it after a couple of in-game months. I started to watch the matches in full detail to get the hang of it, but I'm either not understanding it, not doing it right, or paying enough attention to details. I know lower level managements can be tough, but still, after a few defeats, I'm just giving up and starting a new game. I really want to understand this game, want to go deep and figure it out - the way those awesome people on SIGames forum are doing in unemployment challenges. I just can't seem to be focused enough to go through it. At this point, I have some questions/concerns and would really love your input/inspirations in the matter. My goal: start as an unemployed Sunday league badgeless manager and end up managing my favorite club, Real Madrid. I want to climb up the ladders mostly based on my results (don't want to focus on youth developments or long-term visions in other clubs) and playing style (I want to play nice short passing games with possession, but willing to adapt at the other clubs as they are not in my long term goal). Once I reach Madrid, I want to focus on youth development and play beautiful games for eternity. The only thing I will use is no attribute masking and genie scout - because even if I was a real life manager, I would've used them. So I'm trying to keep everything as realistic as possible here. Questions - these are all going to be related to lower league management as I'll focus on the big-boy things once I make it there. Tactics and Strategy - seriously, what do you guys do around this area? How can I best work on this? How can I be focused, more attention to detail oriented and consistent? Mindset - I have a ridiculous mindset - if I lose, draw I just keep giving up. I cannot seem to stick to it at all. Any suggestions? Training - I don't even know how I can optimize this ideally. Details details details: I tried to read lines and diamonds, pairs and combinations etc. I understand everything at the time, but I forget everything later in the game - How do you keep track of all the combinations, ideas etc.? How can I improve in these areas? Substitutions: How do you keep players energy level up? My players usually have 100% match fitness, but their conditions go up and down. How do you work with below 80% condition back to back matches? When do you substitute? What do you look into it? More tactics: What do you do under different conditions in the game? Winning? Losing? Drawing need to score/defend? What drives you and how do you make those changes in a match to alter the results? Stats/prozone - I know this is an incredibly helpful tool - I don't know what changes to make based on the numbers. I watched the videos on prozone, I still don't get it. For example, x is making too many key passes to the right, I try to stop that it messes up my formation - how do you work around those? Basically, how do you just utilize it? Players - how do you analyze your team? There are players that have good attributes, but they still perform **** and some have poor attributes, but perform well. How do you get around that? How do you assess that? How do you optimize their performance? Are you afraid to move them around even if it's a drop in positional ability? What do you do when a tactic doesn't support that? How do I do it? How do I measure my progress if I'm losing constantly by playing well? How do I keep my spirits up, how do I keep myself from quitting that save and starting over? Seriously guys, how do you do what you do and how do I do it? I know I'm sounding like one of those people who want to achieve something but doesn't want to work for it. The problem is, it is incredibly difficult to keep your head held high in this game because something that works fantastically if I'm taking a lot of shots, playing the way I want etc. - I might still lose. That will make me doubtful about my abilities and I'll just give up. I'll give up because I'll feel like I'm not making any progress at all and I'm just not good enough. Please help me get over this, please help me get better.

  13. I am playing FM18 beta for Manchester United. In Super Cup vs Real Madrid I tried to be solid at the back, but it didn't work - I conceded 19 shots (7 on target), while my team only managed 7 shots (4 on target). I tried save/load multiple times with different tactics and every time they manage almost 20 shots. The possession is always ~30% for me and ~70% Real. Any advice on how to keep Real to fewer shots is appreciated. I would love to emulate real life Mourinho and string of clean sheets. I tried these two tactics, both pretty much same result. I tried moving mentality between Counter and Standard. I tried changing team shape from fluid to flexible to structured. Any ideas appreciated! Here is the analysis from the game played mostly with first tactics. I actually won 1-0 but didn't like how it went.
  14. I ran a series of match replays (reloading the game file) with the same match: Reggina x Cosenza. Italy's Third Division. I coach Reggina. In some, I coached directly (or lightly), in others I went on vacation and let the Ass Coach ran it. These were the results: Reggina 0 x 2 Cosenza - I coached heavily Reggina 1 x 3 Cosenza - I coached heavily Reggina 2 x 3 Cosenza - I coached lightly (I let Ass Coach select team and Opposition options) Reggina 4 x 0 Cosenza - Ass Coach ran (I went on vacation) Reggina 1 x 2 Cosenza - Ass Coach ran (I went on vacation) Reggina 3 x 1 Cosenza - Ass Coach ran (I went on vacation) Reggina 1 x 1 Cosenza - Ass Coach ran (I went on vacation) It's clear I got worse results when I coached heavily. However, I found it striking the widely random results when the Ass coach ran the match. Any thoughts on why of AI's random results, and what I can learn from AI in order to beat Cosenza myself? (It seems that a lighter approach works better). Thanks. Ciao.
  15. Hey guys, so i'm currently at the beginning of my fourth season for the Magpies. Have turned down numerous job offes (juve and arsenal being the biggest) and won the championship, europa league and euro super cup. League placings were 1st in Championship, 5th in first BPL season, 9th in the 2nd (focused on europa and won it). This is my problem. Asensio and Rudiger (i did so well to sign them without release clauses) have been agitating for moves for over a season now. I've alr been forced to sell Dembele from Celtic for his release clause (35 million gbp, director of football negoed his one contract as we never could agree) - so i promised them both we'd go into the champions league next season. They say i've broken my promise as we finished 9th in the league, and totally ignored the fact we had a europa league final as a way to get into the champions league. It's the new season, they're still unhappy! They're playign decent, but i can't interact with them, or even try to offer them new contracts. Rudiger has i think 2 years on his contract left and asensio about 3 years. I've waited out players before when i know i can't replace them with similar calibre signings (tom davies) and they've eventually been ok but this is ages. attached a screenshot of my team.

    Over achieving player

Hi All, Looking for some advice on why a player is doing so well. It's seems like an odd question, but he shouldn't be doing as well as he is, and i know i must be missing something. Im currently managing Notts County. We gained promotion at the first time of asking, and are now starting our campaign in League 1. Last season my main striker was John Stead. He finished the season as my top goalscorer and 5th in the league if i remember correctly, with 22 goals. None of my other strikers came close to his output, and i didn't have the capital to buy myself a decent signing as a backup. So in the January window, I decided to shop for a prospect instead. nothing too fancy, just a young player with the potential to be a leading player in League 1 or the Championship. Turns out they we're also out of my price range. To cut a long story short (probably too long already), i stumbled upon Franck Betra in Sheffield Wednesday's youth team. He had the potential to play in League 1, with a current ability of a Conference player. I started him off playing in the u23s, where he was underwhelming at best. Then the worst happened, Stead went out injured for 2 months. Betra wasn't ready for the first team by any stretch, but with limited options i added him to my bench. Over those two months, and the remainder of the season, he managed 7 goals and 2 assists in 13 games (9 of which were sub appearances). Needless to say, he was a BIG part in me achieving promotion. As i stated oh so long ago, i'm now starting in League 1. i'm 3 games into my current campaign and Betra has scored from the bench in all three. This is in spite of my coaches stating that he has actually suffered a setback in both his current and potential ability. So why is he doing so well? on paper (where the game is not played) he's my worst striker, with two of my wingers apparently better options. My first guess was that i had stumbled on a formation that is tuned for his game, but taking this guess into the transfer market has not helped at all. With my now supposed star striker Matt Smith, having appalling games despite bettering Betra in every area ability and height wise. It's nice having a player doing better than he should, but i now second guess myself before every game. Should i start a player thats playing two leagues higher than he should be, or a player thats in the right league. I generally go for form over ability, but this guy is meant to be quite a bit out of his depth. any helpful suggestions, would be appreciated thanks
  17. Hey! My name is Jørgen and you can pronounce it as the first name of Klopp Even though our name's quite alike, im no way near as good when it comes to manageing clubs in 1 season or more Im fairly new to FM and im addicted already, i love everything about football and i was so glad when i started playing FM15. I have around a 100 hours in both FM16 and FM17. So I started with my hometown club for a change, Aalesunds FK. Its a below mid-table team with not the greatest economy but Im just so interested to play with them and I actually celebrate a little when they score for me in the game. Im fairly new to the game so im not aware of what needs to be done. I assign 2 scouts as they dont have any, create 2 tactics, one for defensive strat and one for more control and offense. I sign 2 players who fits my scouting instructions and place them in the team, first season goes really well, and end up in 5th place. But, my economy is going to ****, every month im like 100.000£ in minus so the club lowers my percent of transferdeals to like 20%. Start of next season i sign maybe 2 players, 1 on free and 1 for money i got from selling maybe 2 players that wasn't needed. I change up my offense tactic because I read somewhere the AI now learns about you. But, as the next season approches, i cant even win against newly promoted sides, i have like 28 shots 14 on target and 1 or 0 goals. im only drawing and loosing, players wanting to leave and such. I quit my save and started over doing kinda the same but with the same strategy as the season before but same outcome. Could anyone please help me understand what I could do? Like do I need to change the training (my assistant is taking care of training). Thanks in advance! -Jørgen

  19. Before i explain,i just want to say that although i'm suffering the second season syndrome i am in no way here to rant and slag this game off...i'm actually here for advice and help please.. I am managing Inter and i am halfway through my second season,18 games played where i am a very disappointing 10th and i'm out of the Champions League. My first season was a huge success,i finished 3rd in the league and also won the Italian Cup and the Europa League. I played with a 4-3-1-2 formation - Control and flexible with no instructions unless i needed to in a game ....................................GK-D............................. WB-A..............CD-D...........CD-D............WB-A ..................BBM........DLP-D......BBM.......... ...................................AP-S.......................... ....................AF-A......................F9-S.................... Joao Mario was my deep playmaker and was pulling the strings, feeding the midfield box to box midfielders, they linked perectly with my AP who was Ever Banega, who played behind the lethal Mauro Icardi.. It all worked like a dream and i dominated most teams apart from Juventus who ended the season as Italian and European Champions....i even beat Man Utd in the Europa Semi Final, then beat Barcelona in the final (they finished 3rd in their champions league group) Mauro Icardi finished as the european golden boot winner with 43 goals in 51 appearances.. I was playing free flowing football and scoring for fun.. Fast forward to the 2nd seasonand i am the complete opposite,if you just think of Liverpool this season...their form at the beginning of the season was my first season, and their form towards the end is my second season.. Teams defend deeper and more compact which is understandable,so these teams i were beating 4,5 or even 6-0 i am now drawing 0-0 or losing by the odd goal on the counter or by set piece..After 18 league games my top scorer is Joao Mario with 5 goals...my lethal and feared striker Mauro Icardi has 3....in contrast Higuain of Juventus has 21 goals in 16 appearances and Juventus are 5 points clear with 2 games in hand.. The only player they have bought is William Carvalho who is more of a back up,and they use the same formation so nothing has changed but they are still very formidable whereas i've hit a brick wall very hard.. I've bought a few young back up players who i want to build up and eventually bring into my team.. I've tried tweaking my roles and duties and dropped deeper etc but all it does is invite pressure where i eventually concede....my job has gone from secure to very insecure in a space of a few months...i'm now in the same position as Mourinho at Chelsea and Ranieri at Leicester where my players have downed tools.. Could my problem be down to not improving my squad and relying on the same players?...but then again Juventus didn't and they are dominating...or again is this because they have a powerful squad anyway? Can i please get advice from anyone who has encountered any problems after success please Thanks

  21. Hello! I'm returning to the series after quite a long absence (I think FM12 was the last one I properly invested any time in) and in that time a lot has changed when it comes to tactics. Therefore, I'm hoping I can get some help/advice/feedback on a tactic I'm trying to create, which has seen some success pre-season but is yet to be tested in a competitive match. The Jovanovic 4-3-3 As a real life Fulham fan, I adore the way we're playing this season under Jovanovic and would really like to recreate the tactic and style for my in-game Fulham team. We're playing some really free-flowing, attractive football (some pundits say the best in the league) where both fullbacks bomb forward to provide the width, 3 midfielders link the play and provide the creativity, and a front three of a right winger, a left inside forward and a striker provide the attacking play and most of the goals... although the midfield do tend to chip in occasionally too! We play a high defensive line, a quick passing tempo, and look to dominate possession in the oppositions half. To give you an idea of how successful the tactic has been IRL, here are a few stats relevant to this discussion (after 26 games in the championship): 2nd in the league for possession, with an average of 58.4% 1st in the league for shots, with 424, an average of 16.31 per game 2nd in the league for shots on target, with 134, an average of 5.15 per game 3rd in the league for goals scored, with 44, an average of 1.69 per game Have conceded 31 goals, which is an average of 1.19 per game, bettered only by 7 other teams 24th in the league for fouls committed, with 253, an average of 9.73 per game 1st in the league for corners, forcing 177, an average of 6.81 per game I would like to recreate something close to this in FM17. The team Jovanovic has assembled are very technical and creative, but really lack any sort of physical presence. Therefore, if I'm to use the players I have at my disposable then I really can only play the way we do IRL. Team Report & Overview All Positions Goalkeepers Defence Midfield Attack Physical Mental Technical First Eleven GK - David Button FB (R) - Denis Odoi CB (R) - Tomas Kalas CB (L) - Ragnar Sigudsson FB (L) - Scott Malone DM - Michael Essien I have just signed Essien as Scott Parker decided to retire at the end of July. W (R) - Neeskens Kebano CM (R) - Jozabed CM (L) - Lasse Vigen Christensen IF (L) - Floyd Ayite ST - Chris Martin Current Tactic Here is how I have my tactic currently set up... I only have individual player instructions set up on the goalkeeper and wingbacks... Originally I had the DM set as a vanilla Defensive Midfielder role as Scott Parker excelled in this role, and I was hoping to sign Poyet to fill his boots once he finally retired. However, Poyet opted for Rangers instead, and Parker retired much earlier than anticipated. I wanted to get somebody in of a similar ilk, and equally someone who could lead the team. Essien was available, so I thought why not. The only problem being that Essien isn't as accomplished as a DM, so I've had to switch the role to Anchor Man. I've also just managed to sign Momo Sissoko from Pane for 30k (!!) who can also play as an Anchor Man. Some things to note: IRL we play a high tempo game, but you'll notice in my Team Instructions I have this on a lower tempo. I've done this because when I've tried a higher tempo my Ass Man always complains that we're misplacing too passes. However, I would prefer to play with a higher tempo so any advice would be appreciated. IRL we play with 3 across the middle, with the middle CM dropping off the other two and staying deep. It's not technically a full on DM, as McDonald who tends to play there is more of a DLP, but who isn't afraid to get stuck in and help out defensively. I've gone with the triangle here for two reasons... 1) I'm unsure of the roles and whether or not if I put a DLP on Defend in the centre will he stay back deep enough and perform defensive duties as well as being a creative outlet? And 2) I've read in a few places that 3 in middle can become cramped and it's recommended to play a centre 3 in a triangle instead. Is this true? Ideally I'd prefer to play 3 in the centre like we do IRL. IRL we play Johansen on the left of the centre 3, who is more of a BWM. I don't have this in my current tactic because I need the creative outlet that is the AP on Support. However, if a DLP on Defend (as mentioned above) can be a creative outlet as well as providing the necessary defensive cover then I could put Johansen on the left. IRL we don't close down as often as I have it set here, but I've found that without this the opposition get way too much time on the ball. Is this normal? IRL we don't really "get stuck in", as per the fouls stat above, but as with closing down, by not having this option set, my players just give the opposition far too much time on the ball. Again, is this normal? Can it be worked around? Ideally, my ultimate tactic would look more like this... BWM: Stefan Johansen But as I've said above, I'm unsure whether or not the three roles are complimentary, whether or not there's enough space to play all three in the middle like that, and whether or not the DLP will provide enough defensive cover for the back two as the wingbacks bomb forward. So again, any help or advice on this would be greatly appreciated. Also, any Player Instructions that would be appropriate for these three roles. The Story Far I'm yet to play a competitive game, although Newcastle is up in a couple of days, so I don't really know how to interpret the results I've had thus far as they're only pre-season friendlies. Ignoring the first two games where I played the out-of-the-box 4-2-3-1 DM Wide, the results have been mixed. I recorded a solid win against ADO Den Haag, a dull draw against Almere, and lost to Sheffield Wednesday. I beat both Rushden and Halifax resoundingly, but then I'd expect that almost regardless of tactics. So I guess the only two relevant results at this point are ADO and Sheffield Wednesday. As you'll see in the shots below, I haven't consistently dominated possession, or really created enough CCCs. Results Almere ADO Den Haag Sheffield Wednesday Rushden Halifax Where I need Help I appreciate I've posted a ton of info and screenshots, but I reckon when asking for help and advice it's good to provide as much information as you can. So, here's where I'm stuck and would really like some help: In my current tactic, am I okay to play the Anchorman role instead of a DM? What are the differences between the two roles on the pitch? Should I be setting any specific Player Instructions? Can the midfield trio work in my ideal tactic? Does a DLP provide enough defensive cover, and are a BWM support, DLP defend, and AP attack complimentary? If so, are there any Player Instructions I should be using for the BWM and DLP? How can I play a higher tempo game without my Ass Man complaining about misplaced passes? Is Control the correct Mentality to use for this type of tactic? I'd much prefer to reduce the Closing Down, and remove the Get Stuck In options but when they're not applied my players simply don't attempt to retrieve the ball. How can I fix this? Plus I'm sure there's a ton of other stuff I've missed that you may be able to give feedback on based on the screenshot and info above, or even you're own knowledge of how FFC play IRL and how that can be translated into FM. Thanks!
  22. Hello. In my RC Lens game i've been running into some issues recently. Defensively we're the worst team in the league. This season my goalkeeper has conceded as much in as much in 13 games as he did in 24 games last year. I usually take a rather simplistic approach to my tactical instructions, and I mostly focus on player roles. I've put on 'play narrower' in an attempt to concede less, but it hasn't been particularly effective. Here's my current set-up: And here's the attributes of my players: Right back, Lamine Gassama Centre back, Filippo Romagna Centre back, Loick Landre Left back, Rogerio BWM, Alberto Grassi BWM, Mamadou Igiebor IF, Anastasios Donis AP, Oceano Bochet Winger, Mamadou Traore Target man, Alberto Cerri Subs: Marco Crimi Kermit Erasmus Davide Petrucci Stipe Perica Thomas Vasseur Ahmed Zaoui Not too much planning went into this, i'll be honest. It's not my preferred tactic, Ideally i'd be playing either a 4-4-2/4-2-4 or a 4-3-3, but i've tried making room for some of my extremely talented academy players. The general idea was to have a more direct playstyle, with Cerri the target man playing with his back to goal which hopefully enabled Donis, Traore and Bochet. For the most part it's worked, although Bochet hasn't been as effective as i'd hoped. The main issue lies in my defence. I'm assuming the issue is that I have too many attacking players on the pitch. The question is, how do I fit my academy players into the team in any other formation?
