  1. Hello, people! I have posted before asking for advices on how to replicate 17/18 Hoffenheim in FM 18. You guys helped me A LOT and, after testing and tweaks, I created this: I've tried to not only recreate Nagelsmann's playing style, but also to adapt it to the italian way because, well... I am managing in Italy, so I focused in some main characteristics: - A pacient building focused in my DC and my DM, these two then choose if we remain pacient or if we try to be more direct; - Something similar to Hoffenheim's vertical positional play: when attacking, my WBs turn in attackers, acting almost in the same line as my Strikers, stretching the field, but still forming a back 5 when defending. Against weaker or bus parked sides, I use another tactic with my CMs as AMs and make six near the box; I am almost where I wanted to be with this tactic, but still feel we have too many crosses with too little effectiveness. Look at these examples: I think we are creating chances, making overloads and changing side quickly, shooting well, behaving very good defensively (althoug some times my WBs run like crazy to the middle of the pitch chasing a player, and I don't know why because I'm not telling my players to man mark), but we are crossing A LOT! And only having a tiny % of headers from them (even with Dzeko and very good crossers!). Contextualizing: I've started with CWBs support to have the effect of attacking with four players, but identfied two problems: we was crossing too much and when one CWB was getting to the byline, the other was not touching the box as much as I needed to also receive crossings or getting rebounds, and this way we have less people there than we should. So I changed to WB support with the "sit narrower" PI and got what I needed without loosing width. But in the support role they aren't as aggressive as I needed and not formed the front 4 line that I wanted. So I tweaked my WBs to attack and it finnaly worked as I wanted! I knew we would ending up having much more crosses with this configuration and was ok with that, because Dzeko (and Schick as backup). But I think 45, 61 is TOO MUCH! I'm also not happy with 35, yet could live with, but the other stats are frustrating me! And I didn't was capable of lowering these numbers. Tried to lower mentality and not saw any changes in crossing, so I'm starting to talk that this is a problem with the roles of my CMs and STs. Am I in the right way? What can I do in my case? (Sorry for my english)
  2. Hello from Greece. This tactic was created when I got a proposition from Southampton, after my 2,5 years trip with (full of depts.) Panathinaikos. The main shape is 3-2-2-1-2. The Team instructions As you can see both WB's and MCR are in automatic role. This is because it helps very much when I make changes to the tactic, during the game. Example. If during the game you win 1-0 and you just want to secure it, set mentality to Counter or defensive, low tempo, Team Shape Structured, defense line deeper, More direct passing and turn on Pass into space. Automatically both WB's and MCR are on defense duties. That's it the game is over. Opposite, if you are back to the score, set defense line Slightly Higher, turn on Offiside Trap, Higher tempo and Attacking Team Instructions. 3. Help with replicating man utd 3-5-2 and/or 4-2-3-1 for the 17/18 season? Could someone point me in the right direction? I have started with Man Utd, attempting to replicate Mourinho’s 17/18 system. I’ve used a 4-2-3-1 wide with my team playing controlling, structured football by playing out of the back. We get stuck in and stick to our positions with little creativity. My team has a typical GK (Dea Gea), 2 defenders (Bailly & Jones), Wing Back on Attack (Valencia) and a Complete Wing Back with support duty (Shaw). Matic acts as a Central Mid (Defend) and Pogba a Mezzala (Attack). Rashford the Raudmuter, Mhkitaryan a Trequartista that roams around, Mata as a advanced playmaker (support) whom cuts in and Lukaku, a complete forward (support) who drops deep to link up play. Seems accurate, doesn’t it? However, I'm losing badly to big teams, and barely scraping thru wins. Oddly enough, this tactic leakes in lots of goals! (Mourinho is a master of defence) I’ve also been asking myself some questions: • Should Pogba be a RPM, AP or a Mezzala? • Should I place both central midfielders in the DM strata, with Matic as a DLP (D) and Pogba as a Segundo Volante (Attack)? • Is Matic more of a CM (D) or DLP (D)? Any help or advice appreciated, thanks 🙏!
  4. Hola, mis amigos. Why won't my players support each other? Okay, let's talk a bit. I'm having some troubles--as most are--translating my head thoughts into FM. I have an idea for how I want to play, and we'll get onto whether that is logical or not, but I've setup in a 3-5-2 as shown below in the attached image. It's slightly adapted, but you'll see where I am at. My thoughts are thus: Player roles and duties Goalkeeper: I have one of the best in the world. Not much to add here. He's instructed to feed the ball into the central defenders for them to continue the ball movement through the middle of the pitch. Central defenders: I've gone for a covering defender in Zouma to protect the high line (we don't play offside). He often wins all headers from long balls and is excellent at sweeping up through balls. Luiz and Christensen are pretty basic defenders who are instructed to pass it shorter. Since we play a high line Zouma is often there stopping any counter attacks. Wing-backs: This is one problem area for me. Since my philosophy is about controlling the midfield and passing through the defence, their primary job is to offer width when the midfield becomes too congested. I have Rahman on the left, he's excellent at getting forward. He has 7 assists and 3 goals in the 16 games he's played, so he's in a more attacking wing-back position. I play Henrichs on the right supporting as a wing-back to offer more balance. The midfield diamond: This is the key area for me. And I think I've got it working okay, but I think it can be better, and this is the main area where I'm looking to bounce ideas around. I have my holding midfielder in Kante, who plays excellently as a DMde for me. I'm looking to try get someone else to fill this role in the summer so I can push him further forwards. I then have a bit more defensive support ahead of him in a CMsu and BBMsu. This is where I'm not seeing the best out of my players. The idea here is that I've chosen a couple of roles who can fulfil both defensive support roles but also carry the ball and provide support further up the pitch. Ahead of these guys is my star man, Griezmann. He's my main creator and everything goes through him. The CMs link up with him and he's good enough to use the ball wisely. However, the issue I'm having with this diamond is that they're not really offering up themselves to support each other to allow for quick passing. They seem rather static on the pitch and movement is looking laboured. This is what I'm trying to change. I need the defensive support from the CMs, but I also need the runners, to provide attacking support too. The big man up top: Diego Costa. Goes without saying. He's a defensive forward, to fit in with our plan of closing down more and pressing high up the pitch. I've tried mixing this up with a complete forward, but he seems to do a better job in this role, but happy to experiment here. I also have Andre Silva. Team instructions We usually play standard but very fluid. The idea being that all my roles bar Greizmann are general roles. They attack and defend as a unit. Pressing high up the pitch to win the ball and then working patiently looking for an opening to create the chances. Our defensive line is higher to support the closing down. To keep the ball I've instructed us to pass shorter (not sure if mixed might be more appropriate to allow the players to decide on the better pass themselves?), and with the keeper distributing the ball to the central defenders I then have us playing out of defence and through the middle. As this is where my best players are. Crosses are floated in because we have Costa. What I'm struggling with Player movement. I'm not seeing them moving around enough, offering up a passing option when we transition from defence into attack. I'm not looking for super quick movement, but I'd like my players to use the ball faster. Pass, move into space and keep it going. We have the technical attributes to support this football, but getting this working in game is causing me a headache. Keeping the ball. I want us to keep it better. Recycle possession when there are no options on rather than just playing a long ball or trying to take on 3 players. So, what are your thoughts? I have attached a few screenshots of us in play so you can see how we look on the field. Along with my team instructions. You can see often when the ball is being carried forward, there are limited passing options as Griezmann, for example, moves away from the player and generally doesn't seem too available. These are different shots, but both times Arsenal have players between the ball carrier and anyone offering lateral support.
  5. Between 2006 and 2010, only one country experienced the taste of victory in the African Cup of Nations, the famous CAN: Egypt! This 3-5-2 tries to recreate the form of play by Hassan Shehata, the coach who took "the pharaohs" to the African treble, from the virtuosity of Aboutrika and Ahmed Hassan to the goals of Zidan. Note: We can not guarantee you infallible tactics, but we promise you can match the results and trophies won. You want evidence? Continue scrolling Tactically speaking this 352 served to have numerical advantage in defense and midfield, since most of the African teams played in 442. In the defense they have 2 central more marking while the defense of the middle makes cover to the other 2. The wings lean in the centers forming a line of 5 complicating in much the plays of danger in the interior of the area. Offensively these same wings give width and depth to attack. The middle-field trio has very well-defined functions. In the double pivot, one has the function of organizing the attack and another has to give support and balance, something well evident in the team that won the 3 CAN in a row. The number 10 is the genius. You have to create the opportunities for others, you have to take the rabbit out of the hat and still have the ability to enter the area to finalize. The attacking pair has one more fixed player to lean against the opposing center and the other is a more mobile spearhead. You must have the ability to watch and end. 6. First season - counter-attacking 4-1-4-1 Hello, I'm doing a Dafuge Challenge with Stourbridge and a Career Updates thread about it. I don't wish to spam the whole forum about it, but I figured a thread here about my tactics could be interesting either to help users, or for people to give me ideas. I've just finished season 1 in which we played a 4-1-4-1. This was wildly successful at first, but our second half of the season was poor and we finished 12th. The basic concept was: - we were massive underdogs and we could rely on opponents coming at us most of the time. It made sense to stack up as many bodies behind the ball as possible and exploit the space they'd give us. Therefore the base shape was something extremely similar to Cleon's Art of Counter-Attack. - The Art of Counter-Attack was most fitting for a more supporting striker like a DLF/S or a DF/D, but I had a poacher-esque pacey striker that was too good for me not to use him. Therefore I made him a DLF/A and pushed up Gnahore from ML to AML to give him a little more support (this also suited Gnahore at the beginning who couldn't play ML before retraining). - Slightly rising up the defensive line worked better in pre-season to avoid us getting cornered all match. Not too much because we don't have pace at the back and we need space to counter. - With no aerial threat upfront, low crosses made sense. - I believe there's a small issue with the ME at the moment with players taking too many long shots. Obviously many of our players are too poor to take the right decision, and are often isolated offensively, but Work Ball Into Box helps a little. This also decreases crosses which suited us. However, there were problems: - Massive over-reliance on Weston-Hayles and his pace, personified by his 23 goals yet the next top scorer was on 4 goals. We were extremely one-dimensional. Unlike Cleon's setup, we hardly ever setup actual counters, and didn't create enough opportunities for the players rushing in from midfield when not on the counter. It'd occasionally happen but my midfield players aren't good enough to convert consistently, and with Weston-Hayles on attack duty, we lacked the forward dropping deep to drag defenders out of shape. - Unsurprisingly, as the season went on, we stopped being underdogs and the opposition started giving us less space to attack. With the plan relying on space for Weston-Hayles to run into, our attack crumbled apart. We were particularly awful at chasing games, and alternative tactics didn't work much better. - An unforeseen consequence of the AI rating us higher, was that they attacked us better. I believe at the beginning of the season the AI rated us so low they came at us with overly attacking mentalities, and just ran into our bus ineffectively. As the season went on, they started to figure out how to patiently pull us apart. We started getting cornered more often (not helped by our midfield being packed with players that are too passive), and conceding more goals both by the ground (through balls or square passes), and a lot of crosses and headed goals in set pieces.
