Really? From my experience Seoul was like a ultra-demanding girlfriend who's never happy, no matter what you give her, and then crushes your heart like a merciless witch. Bridget!!!!!!!
Sure, but at the same time you do have VAST resources to win everything on player quality alone. You don't have a right for too many missteps, true.

Good luck, from my experience, Seoul should be extremely easy on all fronts.

Season 2020/21
Having resigned from Seoul, I went job hunting. My reputation is now "fairly good" so I was fairly picky (pardon me). After Toulouse and Mainz rejected me, I lowered the bar a bit and applied to Sundowns in South Africa and got the job!
Of course, Kaizer Chiefs are absolute rulers of (South) African football and it's going to be a massive task trying to dethrone them. However, Sundowns are a decent club when it comes to reputation and money so it's not as if I'm starting from the bottom again.
Table at the end of the season
Domestic cups were, plan and simple, a disaster. Other than that, I'm participating in African Confederations Cup, which is their Europa League equivalent. Anyway, this competition, as well as their CL btw, span over one and a half season so you play some of the group stage games (if you get that far) in the middle of pre-season. Thoroughly annoying.
As far as international management goes...Well, bollocks. I got a nice team at Nigeria, but our African Nations Cup run was a disaster. We did manage to get to quarterfinals, but it was a sneaky Greek way with 3 draws. After that we lost to Egypt, later to be crowned champions.
I resigned before getting the sack and decided to try again, this time with Ivory Coast who offered me a job among other African nations. Right now we're in the middle of a WC qualifiers and things are going well.

Season 2020
Big expectations and even bigger delivery. We stormed every competition. I could even afford to play reserves in the last 5-6 league games. In CL alone we had a goal difference of 34-10 in 14 games.
It wasn't much of a feat, to be honest, since Seoul are the richest club in Korea. It was just a matter of balancing the squad a bit (bought 5 players) and keep attacking everyone.
I forgot to mention in the last update that we got the 3rd place in FIFA CWC, and we are to play in it again, although I doubt we'll win it. That will have to wait for South American or European team most likely.
That's it as far as Asia is concerned, except for the national Asian trophy, which will wait a bit because...
...I got hired by Nigeria! Morocco was the other team in contention, but I chose the former. We played through the African Champions of Nations, which doesn't count for this challenge, by getting knocked-out by Egypt in the quarterfinals. Other than that, we qualified for the real thing, African Cup of Nations, with ease.

threelions1goal - It's shocking in Korea, isn't it? I dread starting a new season because even after winning the CL my board was like "hm, yeah, that was alright, but you're still sh*t"
mclarke1987 - Strange that you got to manage Paraguay and yet can't find a better job in South America club-wise. You must be close to it, though, and managing a nation can only help.

shirajzl - Congrats on your Champions League. The korean clubs do seem to have high expectations, so congrats on avoiding the sack. Have you been able to achieve a more balanced squad through transfersnow?
Cheers. I haven't played through the transfer window yet, but I've entered it with "insecure" job status, even though I finished 3rd in FIFA Club World Cup just a recently. I reckon if I don't start winning straight away in the league I'll be in danger.

Season 2019
Goyang Hi FC started off pretty well, keeping up in the top part of the table. However, another wage budget cut came, after who knows how many over the past four seasons, and I just lost my temper. I started applying to better clubs, and not just Korean. After being rejected by Pohang, Ulsan and a few Brazilian and Mexican clubs, I was offered a job by...Seoul!
So, I left Goyang on 3rd place and moved to a club with big money and even bigger expectations. At the time they were still in all competitions, and after a while they upped their expectations even further by asking of me to actually win the league in practically impossible situation.
Table at the moment of job switch
I inherited a squad with some good players, but completely unbalanced. As an illustration, the team consists of 8 wingers and only one left back!
Anyway, I went on not really knowing what to expect. We started a great winning run, but with occasional drop of points which made it impossible to catch up with Jeju who were unstoppable. With half a dozen league games to go, I decided to play reserves, hoping to secure a CL spot and just focus my best XI on trying to win Korean FA Cup and Asian CL.
In the cup, we reached the final only to lose to a side who got relegated. They only had two shots, after a corner and a free-kick, enough for a 2-1 win.
In the Champions League, we beat Perth in the quarters, 2-0 and 0-0. In the semis, we beat Jeju in two VERY tight games, 1-1 and 2-1. The final saw us face Persepolis, with much weaker squad than ours. We saw them out 4-1 and 1-0 to win the first trophy on this journey!
What's more, the board confidence before the CL final was "very insecure" because of the league finish. I think I would've got the sack had I not won.

shirajzl - So you're sticking with the defunct logo. Are you a Christian? Hope your loyalty (even if enforced) to Goyang pays off next season
Haha, I am, but that's not the reason I kept the logo. I just can't be bothered to find a good one.

Shirajzl - Seems like you've made a solid start in South Korea. Do you think you'll stay with Goyang or move onto a bigger club?
I'd like to move to a better resourced club in Korea, but I can't see it happening. My rep is still "low".

Season 2017
We finished 7th this time. The team was very inconsistent for the most part, but they kicked into gear in the last quarter of the season. Even though I'm happy with solid, mid table finishes, I don't really see room for improvement.
We're constantly in the red, despite me being careful with the WB. We have a big stadium, but very few spectators. The reputation rises slowly or not at all.
When I apply for jobs with better Korean clubs, I get laughed off.
In the cup, we went out immediately.

I started in Korean second division and now when I'm in top division it seems really difficult to step up. There's no money and the club's rep doesn't rise, not to mention mine. It's going to take extreme luck and/or many seasons to slowly build them up from lower to mid table obscurity.
Doing the same in South Africa (starting from second division) was much easier in FM 15 when I was doing Pentagon.

Season 2017
Things were rather sticky in the beginning, with only 1 win and 6 defeats in the first seven games, but things slowly picked up. We were very inconsistent, but that was to be expected. In the end, we scraped through to the "title race" group or group A on goal difference, where we lost 4 out of 5 and convincingly so. It's going to be tough, there's no money, the wage budget is cut down even more. Out of all free transfers, only this guy proved to be an improvement.
In the cup, we reached the quarters, after defeating a lower league side and undeservedly a good Pohang team, we lost in the same way against a second division team.

Season 2016
Media prediction was 9th, but I saw in the first season here there's a lot of breathing room.
With a few free transfers we won the league, but it was tight. Gangwon was a constant threat, switching with me at the top.
In Korean FA Cup, we got to 5th round (expected 4th), beating the top tier Ulsan in the process.

I highly doubt I'll finish this challenge, but it should keep me motivated to play FM. Otherwise, I struggle to stick with a save. Having such long term goals has always helped me focus.
Last year I completed Pentagon Challenge
Jomo Cosmos (Africa) - Guangzhou (Asia) - San Jose (NA) - Inter (Europe) - Corinthians (SA).
This time I want to avoid the same clubs, maybe even leagues where possible.
Anyway, I started at...
Season 2015
Korean second tier.
I arrived 13 games to go, when they were on 7th place.
It looks close to playoffs, but it was never a realistic goal. I used this time to assess the squad. What's interesting is that the ENTIRE team's contracts are expiring. Lots of work to be done.

Yeah, endurance is key. I'd say even more so with the international part. Winning those cups which are held every 4 years can be awfully stressful. One bad game from your keeper or a defender and you're out, regardless of how good your team is.
I remember even in the old days of CM 01/02 trying to win international tournaments was always a frustrating affair.

This is really impressive, people.
I've been doing some research on long challenges and this one, as well as Alphabet challenge and Pentagon challenge, cropped up as the best. Now, I completed the Pentagon last year, but that's the shortest of the aforementioned trio.
I'm wondering where do you find motivation to build up teams over and over again? I remember that was my biggest problem while doing Pentagon, just when you've set up your squad perfectly to your taste and tactic, you have to move on and start all over again. The same struggle to get rid of the deadwood, carefully managing finances to slowly bring in suitable players etc. It's fun for 2 or 3 times/clubs, but after a while it just becomes a grind.

Amazing stuff.
Nothing that anyone asked me, but I'd like to see you with a team which is not suited to your tactic from the get-go. A team where you have to work with what you have for a season or two. I'd like to see your decision making process in that environment. I'm sure it'd be as good as this thread, maybe even more useful.

That could also be the problem, you know. You can plan all you want if you don't know exactly what each instructions will do to your team. For example, the change of Team Shape in order to break down the opposition is something very few people would even think of doing, but you did it because you knew exactly what would it do. Playing the way you play is extremely rewarding, but it requires a lot of matches watched in full with various instructions tried out before you can even think of any contingencies for different match scenarios.

My BWM (Gil Romero) is on the ball. Instead of the easy short pass to my right winger (Passlack), he decides to try to make the longer pass to my attacking fullback (Holgate) who is on the run and overlapping.
This stuff exactly is what I can't seem to grasp in FM. I know it's all about the context, roles and duties and all, but whatever the context is, my midfielders always pass it direct and long if I have players in AML/AMR spots. The fact the team is supposed to pass it short and the fact he has two other options don't seem to matter.
What I'm asking is what would you do if your BWM plays those long balls too often, even though he has an easy option?
0 -
Any plans to continue this?

I've been tinkering with this stuff and noticed a huge amount of long shots taken almost exclusively by wide midfielders (with no PPMs). Anyone else had the same experience?

Where would you put CM(a) on this setup? On the left (like in the picture) or the right?
I.e. closer to IF(s) or IF(a)? Where would they get into each others' way more or, conversely, where would CM and IF work together better?
Confused with that and even after watching games can't decide.

I'll add to the popular demand because it really is annoying; please remove auto application of OI.

OI will be in FMT 16.

Season 2021/22
Lots of trophies, but only two of them count; league and KO Cup. I was chasing cups as much as possible, but having won one, I'll ignore them in the next season.
The league was so tight, it all came down the last game of the season where I needed a point against Kaizer Chiefs! Can't be more dramatic than that!
I also won African Confederation Cup, which also doesn't count for the challenge. As the first SS shows, I'm out of it this time (remember the format of these comps is annoying, pouring over two seasons) because I wanted less congested fixtures for the following season.
As for Ivory Coast, I won CHAN, but again, it doesn't count. The more important is that we qualified for the WC and had a good campaign. In the opening game, we beat the hosts, Argentina 2-0! We continued amazingl form by beating USA 4-0, so in the last round against Belgium we only needed NOT to lose by more than 3 goals. We lost 0-2 as I was resting some players. In the second round, we got Italy who scored 5 mins in after a random penalty. We took control over the game, started dominating but no cigar. We went out, 0-1. Regardless, this is something to build on and I'm looking forward to African Nations Cup next year.
