Really enjoyed reading this, so much so that I shamelessly copied your tactic to see how it would do with a more elite team in Atletico Madrid. So far, we have scored 34 in 16 league games, conceding only 8. Sat top of the league with 38 points, the only losses coming to Real Madrid and a 2-0 FM'ing to Granada. The highlight, though, is definitely a 4-0 demolition of Barcelona, in which they had 60+% possession and 1 shot I would definitely be interested to see how you tweak in game, especially as your team gets better and faces more teams trying to defend deeper.

Have to say, I love this approach. Huge fan of Simeone and defensive football in general. Would be interesting to see someone apply this to the FM24 match engine.

I really enjoyed reading through this thread, kudos @crusadertsar! I've always been obsessed about the importance of defence in every sport I follow, not just football. However, when it comes to FM I've always been more interested in the squad building side and just chose some form of high-pressing system. This year though, I find myself frustrated at the amount of unrealistic scores, such as 4-3, 5-2 etc. Indeed, look across the most popular tactics and you will see a lot of teams winning leagues with a league-average defensive record, if not worse. If nothing else, I just want some more realistic scores. Thus, I have downloaded the Defence First 4-4-1-1 to have a play with. The main changes I have found beneficial are enabling low crosses. It makes sense to me, as the striker in this system is not a brute-force type of striker, and low crosses enable the high pace and off the ball to come into play. I have also lowered the midfield pivot into the DM strata, as I found I was conceding goals just in front of the defence, and the CB's were not stepping out to stop the shots. @crusadertsar I may have missed, but what was your reasoning behind having the pivot in the CM strata?

Any way to request a couple of tactics? I'm looking for 2 ideas. Firstly, a 3-4-2(AM)-1 shape, and I would also be interested to see what sort of defensive record you could create. Not fussed about possession, just concede under 20 goals and win the league?

I have to ask, and I ask with the utmost respect. What are you doing tactically in your saves? It seems like you get sacked in most of your jobs. Can we see your tactics? There are some very good players here who could provide some advice.

That third place finish will definitely make you an attractive candidate for a good job now. Maybe us Leeds fans wouldn't be too opposed to another American coach now

The team I support, managed by my favourite player of the last decade, emulating my favourite manager of all time Will definitely follow this with interest. Your tactics look interesting, although you're missing one where the DM drops back to create a back 3, a la Kalvin Phillips. Any opposition instructions to recreate the man to man aspect? And how are you choosing which formation to use in each game? Sorry for the questions, you can probably tell I'm quite passionate about the Bielsa years!

Have to say I am really enjoying this. Would also selfishly like you to go to Leeds and see what you can do with us there (although I think our fan base would explode if another American took us over in real life). Is the 49ers takeover in the game, or is it still Radrizzani as the owner? If the rumours are to be believed, the 49ers philosophy regarding coaches is to get the best coach you can afford, hence why we went after Bielsa, and why they didn't want Marsch. But I digress, I could write a whole thesis about what has gone wrong at Leeds Good luck for the World Cup!

Is it possible to get a tactic that is solid defensively, while playing direct football?

Super interested in this! I follow all the big 4 sports because I love the systems of building teams. Will be good to see how you approach team building over the longer term (and by that measure, how the AI deals with it).

This is a little before my time, what was the gimmick?

I love this skin, I haven't enjoyed the game this year until this skin came around. My general gripe with "attributeless" skins are I don't find them realistic. If I were a manager, I could say that a player had excellent speed, is a good finisher but can't head for toffee, which I can do with this skin. My only request would be to ask if it would be possible to put in FM Stag's stats on another tab on the player profile screen?

Shame this had to end, this is one of the few threads I await updates and give them a full read through a few times. I guess the pace of the game is a major worry though, it is a very slow way of playing. I look forward to your next venture nonetheless!

Will be interested to follow this. I'm a huge fan of US sports and the fact that any fan will likely have their team in with a chance of winning the "big one" at some point in their lives (unless you're a Knicks fan). Also interested to see how the AI approaches their squad building, as I imagine they will struggle with the salary cap much in the way they seem to struggle with squad registration issues everywhere else.

Not commenting too much, but really enjoying this! Shame set pieces are a bit naff, there would be huge scope there for some NFL-type set plays or NBA-style inbound plays. Where would your ideal move be next? Surely the States as it fits with the NFL theme? Can't move to Europe without a ring

Certainly an interesting challenge! Off the top of my head, James Chester and Reece Oxford would fit.

Forgive me if I'm misunderstanding, but you've added in a Mez(su) instead of a Carrilero. What is the reasoning behind this? Wouldn't he take up similar spaces as the Treq? And lower the defensive stability by vacating the middle?

@Timo61 I started a save in Hong Kong and the top division doesn't start their games until 2024/25 season.

Really enjoying this. I suspect this would be more successful with elite teams who have players who can play in multiple positions, but its fun seeing what you can do in South Africa.

This seems obscenely hard As the person above me says, even doing this with one country is a big challenge. Saying that, I am quite tempted to give this a go. For countries, I have had a look and I think Finland are the best European option. For Africa, Zambia stands out as they won the AFCON recently. South America I think the only choice is Venezuela. Oceania would be anyone except New Zealand. Asia seems to be Hong Kong, although I think Uzbekistan could be a fun option. For North America, I'm at a loss, I think this could be the hardest to accomplish.
