  1. Hi King, Love your updates, really good read catching up. Very cheeky to ask but have you said anywhere what sort of system or tactics you are running? Struggling a fair bit personally, like any help that might be going!!
  2. Legend, thank you! I should just add though, that was a badly timed screenshot, we have been playing every 3 days - just a little gap between a tour and a few others matches. Only 4 friendlies left so hopefully we can make some quick progress. Morale is ace though. Cheers again
  3. All, I usually follow Cleon's pre-season set up to the letter and always works well. But the thread is no longer showing the images so I did it the best I could...but the team's fluidity with a pretty basic formation is growing extremely slowly... Have I done anything wrong? Uploaded with ImageShack.us
  4. A bit tempted to demote him but he isn't interested, understandably. Although I haven't seen any outstanding candidates to replace him anyways
  5. As in real life, I would like a back up for Giroud. Any suggestions? I almost had Lewandowski (which would have been a bit OTT admittedly) but now a little lost. Will be up front by himself, played as DLF(A). Cheers
  6. Ross, I thank you very much indeed! Going to start a proper save game and come back here soon...hopefully! Cheers again, really appreciate it
  7. Hey Rosso, I am genuinely sorry to ask but I am struggling with FM14 and you seem to be doing very well. I know you have posted your team and tactics previously but I am obviously blind and cannot find it! Would you possibly mind pointing me in the right direction? I am particularly interested in the "One Tactic" idea!! Sorry again and really appreciate any help you might be able to offer! Cheers skip
  8. You are having a blinding season Ross - very jealous. I did a season on the beta as a bit of a test and will be starting a new save soon (well, once I can be bothered going through another pre season). I am keeping an eye out for your new hybrid tactic though. My best ever FM save was back on FM11 and used a DM, MC & AMC (but not in a straight line) and I have tried a few times since to make that work again but it has always been abysmal... Hoping you might be able to crack it! I really like the idea of Ozil in the AMC position but not at the expense of the rest of the team...
  9. So, it is safe to say this game is still as infuriating as ever. Started a game with Arsenal, intended to be a bit of a 'test' until the full version comes out... So, with Ozil and Flamini in place I decided to keep my transfers dealings quite minimal and only moved for a striker to provide competition and cover for Giroud as well as a young CB to also provide cover and competition. For CB I followed the advice of a few people on here and brought in Balanta for a possibly overpriced £11.25m. For striker I went for Jackson Martinez at Porto, mainly because I am fan IRL and I hoped his beastly physical stats would bring success to my side. Only thing is I paid around £27million and Barcelona subsequently got Lewandowski for £18mil. Safe to say I overpaid! Anyway, 7 games into the season and we are second, one point behind United. There have been some awesome results and performances, like this one, in my first game of the season: And this recently at home to Jose's Chelsea - I was annoyed they managed three goals, given their number of CCC's: However, away from home it is lacking something and I am quite happy to admit I am not good enough (and never have been) at this bloody game, to know what it is... Cardiff away: City away (no disgrace in drawing 0-0 but look at the CCC's) We were utterly battered: So, this is my current setup - if anyone has any suggestions that would be greatly appreciated!!
  10. Hi mate, I am not sure but do you mean a DM and then an MCl, AMCl and AMCr? I do like the idea of that but not quite sure on it. I have used your ideas for the player roles in my system though... Second post to follow...
  11. So, against my better judgement I have started a save game with Arsenal. I say better judgement because I gave up with FM13 because I just could NOT get with the game. It seemed to me to have too many random instances and performances and, well, I just gave up and hoped for better from FM14. So, after catching up with this forum and the excellent Ozil thread here (http://community.sigames.com/showthread.php/364391-%C3%96zil-10-a-tactical-exercise-on-FM14-with-Arsenal ) I decided to give it a go. I settled on a 41221 formation as I hoped that would give me a solid foundation, with a platform for my attacking players and a system which could hopefully work both home and away... I followed Cleon's pre-season and smashed 11 teams you have never heard of and started my season with a home match against Spurs. We smashed them 4-0 and all looked great. Unfortunately, since then we have really stumbled and stuttered which culminated with a 2-0 loss at Cardiff in which we created nothing and were fortunate to not lose by more. I am happy to keep plugging away, at least until the full version comes out and hope I can sort a few things out but I wonder if anyone could provide any pointers or tips in the meantime? My current set up is below, it is fairly standard other than I ask my AML to tuck in and dribble more and my AMR is push further forward and stay wide. Really, I have never been a great FM'er so welcome any tips anyone might have. Cheers
  12. Evening all, Thanks very much for your responses. Cleon, I started reading your thread and thought, "This seems familiar...and lo and behold, I got to about page 5 and realised I had posted in that thread previously! I have revisited much of that info and started a new save, keeping that in mind. Hopefully I will have better luck this time around... Thanks for the advice mate, will keep that in mind and see how it goes... very much like the sound of this too - might be an option for someone like Cazorla over on the left wing... Cheers!
  13. Hi all, I have just posted this in the Tactics and Training Discussion thread but I thought I would post it here too - decent chance someone has already had experience of my particular issue... Welcome any thoughts!! Hi all, I wonder if I could ask for a bit of help. I am trying to set up a 4-1-2-2-1 (with 1DM, 2MC's, AML/R and a ST). My (very) basic thinking is that I wanted to create a solid formation which plays patient possession football (I know everyone seems to be trying this) with plenty of width; either from the full backs who can attack because a DM is waiting to cover or from the AML/AMR. Anyways, to get to the point. I have tried this so far and encountered two main problems which I think are stopping the tactic from working properly. 1) My two MC's are having to cover far too much ground and are 1) ineffectual 2) knackered after 60 minutes. I am playing as Arsenal and have been using Wilshere/Cazorla as AP-A and then another (sometimes Wilshere, sometimes Ramsey) as DLP-S or B2B-S. 2) My ST is often isolated and again, therefore ineffectual. I have tried quite a few options here (probably too many to be honest) DLF, AF, TM, P. Bearing in mind, I am Arsenal and reluctant to buy a whole new squad I have been rotating between Giroud (TM or DLF) and Walcott (AF, P). I appreciate that by not having an AMC I am likely to have issues with supporting a lone front man but I have also similarly found a DMC is a very good idea, particularly as many AI sides employ an AMC. So, the question is, can anyone provide any guidance (either written) or point me towards an existing thread which covers a similar issue? Really do welcome any thoughts. Uploaded with ImageShack.us

  15. My personal opinion on FM13 is that the ME has tried a little too hard to be like real life. Now, let me explain as I know that sounds stupid. In every save I try - the amount of matches where daft things happen is beyond comprehension. Things like my CB's will completely ignore their tactical instructions and their PPM and launch balls over the top of the opposition defence (straight out for a goal kick) or, even better, a midfielder will play a 5 yard pass to another midfielder - who isn't looking. The ball will then bounce back off their heels and straight to an opposition striker who buries it. It drives me mad and basically ruins any sort of 'fun' the game might provide. I think (and this is just a theory) that these are designed to happen as part of the ME. I don't mean the programmers wanted to remove the enjoyment of the game. But, what I do mean is that there was a desire to have more 'unlucky' events. The kind of event in a match where you throw your hands up and say, "Well, you can't plan for a player to do that." I have had 4 or 5 saves, some with plenty of signings, some with none. Some with passing tactics, some with counter tactics and it is the same outcome every time. You can feel like you are getting somewhere, a few 1-0 wins, then suddenly a 3-0 and you think, right, I have cracked it...and then next 3 matches you lose heavily and it is all gone to a mess. I am sure there are people out there who have cracked FM13 and will think this is some form of sour grapes but I have owned all of the last 7 FM/CM games and this is genuinely the first version where I haven't been able to have any sort of consistency in results or performances, or even style of play! I have given up now and I am hoping FM14 will be better... PS - if anyone has done very well with Arsenal (my team and the team I am most often on any FM - mainly trying to correct the decisions they make in real life!) then I am happy to convinced otherwise!! EDIT: just corrected a few typos
  16. Realised my previous post was off topic and not very helpful so have removed it...
  17. Mr Llama, We had a great pre season and won all our matches, only conceding 3 goals. Anyways when the season started it was a little disappointing. We drew home to Spurs, away to Southampton and home again to Stoke. We then lost to City and I was worrying. Next game was away to Udinese and I feared for our CL campaign. I hope something has clicked as we then thrashed them 3-0 and then away to Swansea we were 4-0 inside 30 minutes. I hope the tactic has bedded down now. I have to say when it works it produces some really great football.... Hoping it will continue and most importantly I actually enjoying FM13 for the first time. Cheers!
  18. Llama, I am starting a new save with Arsenal and just stumbled across this thread (I see it has been going for a while). It seems as though it is exactly what I was hoping to achieve. I will start off with this and hopefully it will go well. I am spending a bit of money on a DM and a CB (as that is what I think we need in real life) so hopefully that will help too. Cheers!
  19. Jones not available at start of first season unfortunately.
  20. Quick question for all, I think Arsenal need a dominant CB, someone in the mould of Kompany or Vidic...but I am struggling to decide on who that should be. At present, the best I can find (for a reasonable price) is either Garay (at Benfica I think) or Subotic at Dortmund OR taking the mega £26mil gamble and bringing Dede over from Vasco. Could anyone provide any advice here? Any of these three? Or, someone different entirely? Cheers
  21. Hi mate, I have been catching up with this thread as I left FM13 for a while as I felt like it was driving me mad. As there have been a few patches since I am considering getting back into it. Anyways, are you still playing the flat 433 you posted at the start of your updates? It looks like how I would like to set my team up (and had been trying to do previously) and I was considering being a bit shameless and copying it... Do you have any other tips or advice you have picked up along your way (winning the quadruple is awesome)?? Cheers very much - welcome any tips or advice you have. Cheers
  22. Hi all, So, I gave up with FM13 in a bit of a huff a while ago. I just couldn't get a handle on the tactics and match engine... Anyways, I noticed on Twitter the other day that another patch has been added in the last week or so... So, has anyone noticed any differences with the new patch? Mainly, I am hoping the ME is MARGINALLY more forgiving... I might, maybe, have got together the courage to try again...
  23. I have played the last 4 or 5 FM's but it is clear that 13 just isn't for me. Tactics work for 5 matches and then are suddenly awful. Teams with good dribblers are practically unbeatable... I am going to leave FM13 and maybe try again with 14. This one just isn't for me... Which is a shame as I would like to put right the issues at Arsenal!! Well done to the others here who are doing well...just a shame.
  24. Hi Darren, I am going to give your tactic a go. My 41221 doesn't create enough at top end of the pitch unfortunately. Away games tend to be a dull battle to 0-0! Have you finished your season as of yet? How did you get on? And do you only use the shouts you described earlier? Ie that list at the beginning and the 'shut up shop' shout if needed?
