  1. Started season 3. I have some major squad issues, in that I have too many good players to squeeze into the team! Beat United in the Community Shield 3-1 on penalties after a 0-0. De Gea appears to have reached 'super keeper' status. First game of the season was Man City at Anfield, and they were comfortably dispatched 2-0. Second game was away to Norwich. I DOMINATED from start to finish, but only had a Suarez goal to show for it with 5 minutes left. Obviously they went up the other end and Bradley Johnson scored a late equaliser. Gutting! But only for 2 mins, because I brought on my new Mexican striker and he nodded in the winner in the 93rd minute! I've drawn Hull in the league cup at Anfield, so my squad players will be getting a run out. My CL group is nice. Valencia, PSV and someone I can't remember off the top of my head. Just beaten PSV 2-0 away. Christian Eriksen with a goal and an assist, straight after asking for more game time. Glad I listened when he told me he was good enough! I also won the Euro Super Cup by beating Chelsea. This time it was Cech's turn to become 'super keeper'. I eventually beat him in the 108th minute thanks to Danny Wilson nodding in Charlie Adam's corner. That's where I'm at. The unbeaten streak has stretched to 72 games. It's not gonna last much longer!
  2. Nice! I look forward to seeing how you got on. I've always been a fan of the 4-4-2, and I hope to get back to it in the future, especially utilising Andy Caroll for the flick ons. As you say, United do very well with it. Hernandez in particular seems to thrive.
  3. Yeah it is a steal, even if his wages are 160k a week! However, I don't want him to disrupt the team..... Not sure if he will or not though, but do I gamble? Cavani is available for 30m, Spurs are interested in him also. Is he THAT good on the game?
  4. 4-2-3-1 with wingers mate. Here's how I line up: GK - Reina (Sweeper Keeper) RB - Johnson/Kelly (Full back - auto) LB - Enrique/Robinson (Full back - auto) RCB - Shawcross/Carragher (Stopper) - Coates could do this job too, but I sold him cos he wasn't getting game time LCB - Wilson (Ball Playing Defender - defend) - Agger could do this, but I sold him too! RCM - Adam (Deep Lying Playmaker - Support) - sometimes Gerrard to rest Adam, and sometimes Joe Allen who was a great cheap purchase and doesn't moan about game time) LCM - Javi Martinez (Ball Winning Midfielder - Support) - sometimes I play Gerrard here to rest Martinez, or if it's Spurs I'm playing LW - Downing (Winger - attack) - I rarely change this position, unless the game requires it with 20 mins to go and I swap the wide players RW - Adam Johnson (Winger - attack) or Affelay/Suarez (Inside Forward - attack) - this depends on who I'm playing and who is playing up front CAM - Suarez (Trequartista) or Gerrard/Eriksen (Attacking Midfielder - Attack/Support) - this also depends on who I'm playing. Predominantly it's Suarez but if I'm playing away to a big team, I might push him up top with Gerrard behind ST - Carroll (Target Man - attack) or Hooper (Poacher) or Suarez (Trequartista/Advanced Forward - Attack) - this depends on who I'm playing and how the other attacking players are set up. I usually always start with Control, but if I'm playing a big team I might start with Attack so that I get at them early and shake them up. If Carroll starts I will also use the shout of 'Hit Early Crosses'. I play Fluid. As you can see, the back 5 and the 2 central midfielders never change positions, but the front 4 are dependent on who I'm playing against. This may change this coming season as I try to bed in some of my youngsters.
  5. Club: Liverpool Budget: 35 Million Looking for: Striker With: A Robbie Fowler-esque eye for goal! The new Fowler, Rush or Inzaghi would be ideal! Other: Play a 4-2-3-1 with wingers, Suarez behind the striker, Carroll & Hooper rotate and both got 19 goals last season, but I need someone who will consistently score goals. If he's British, all the better, but I doubt it very highly! Won the quadruple last year, and need to dominate more! Season: Pre-season 3! Tevez has been offered to me for 3.9m...... Loyalty Bonus: don't care! Agent Fee: don't care!
  6. Oh, and Charlie Adam had the highest assists in the league last year!
  7. Won the league after my next game, beating Chelski 4-2 at the Bridge, despite a second half double from Fat Frank. Drogba was kept so quiet that he announced his retirement after. Haha. 20 times champions with a game to spare! Beat United 2-0 in the FA Cup Final for my second treble winning season. Attacked them from the start, and they never really got going. Suarez scored a diving header, and Stewart Downing scored a decisive second when picking up the ball on the half way line after clearing a United corner, dribbling past Vidic and blasting into the top corner from 20 yards. Classic! Final league game, with the league one and the likes of Carragher complaining about game time, I switched 9 of my starting 11. It was, after all, home to Wolves. Flanagan got a game straight after returning on loan, and looked very assured. Carra was immense, Adam Johnson (5.7m signing from Citeh) ran them ragged in the first half, setting up Big Andy for a double. The Big Man also set up Jordan Henderson for his first goal of the season (first start too!). We ran out 3-1 winners after being pretty much outplayed for the second 45 minutes (Michael Owen came off the bench and ran the show for them!), but it didn't matter because we won the league! United could only muster a 0-0 away draw with Fulham so the gap was a solid 6 points in the end. Champions League final time. I apologise because before I stated that I'd be playing Barcelona in the final, but straight after I'd posted that, Marseille spanked them 5-1 in the second leg of their semi (thanks to a Lukaku hat-trick and some genius from Cheyrou and Remy). OM in the final then! The game was a tense one, Suarez snatching a goal about 15 minutes in. End to end stuff, but my defence was resolute. A wonder strike from Javi Martinez came back off the post just before half time, but unfortunately for them, hit the keeper and rolled in for an OG. 2-0 at half time. The second half was one of few chances, but Cheyrou scored a peach after dribbling round 3 defenders on the edge of the box. I made a few subs to freshen things up, and because I wanted to give some youth a chance. We held on for a 2-1 win, Champions League trophy number 6, and the QUADRUPLE! Highest points total in PL history also. 68 game unbeaten run. I've just picked up Jack Cork from Southampton for 11m. Well over the odds but he's developed quite nicely so far, and I'm thinking he'll be getting some game time in the cups, before a loan to Genk. I also picked up Kagawa on a free (Japanese shirt sales have gone through the roof!) and Grant Hanley for 3.5m (Jorgensen is moaning about game time, and has been inconsistent when I've given him any). Now, the only area I'm thinking needs strengthening is strikers. I WANT to give Leigh Griffiths more game time, but it bizarrely tells me he's out on loan to Blackpool despite me never agreeing to it, having no way of recalling him, and having no history of it anywhere, even in my transfer centre! I have Suarez (normally play him behind the striker, depending on opposition), Carroll (19 goals last year), Hooper (19 goals) and then youngsters like Himnischi and Shane Sutherland who will get a bit of experience, but aren't prolific. The youth strikers look good too, but I'm thinking that I need an out-and-out goalscorer who I can rely on to ALWAYS score. Tevez has been offered to me for 3.9m. I think he'd add an extra dimension to my attack but I fear he may disrupt the team. Anyone had an experience of him? Paloschi is also a strong possibility. Do I buy someone, or do I carry on with what I have? We did score a lot of goals last year, but so far Spurs have signed Hamsik and Papiss Cisse, and are attempting to buy Cavani, so I don't want to be left behind. What would you suggest????
  8. Well after dealing with real-life things for a while such as marriage and a honeymoon, I'm back to my Liverpool save. Season 2 is nearly over. I have two league games left, I'm currently 4 points clear of United at the top, with an away game to Chelsea followed by a home game against Wolves. I'm confident I'll pick up the league to add to my league cup, and then I have the FA Cup final against United, and the Champions League final against Barcelona. I'm undefeated so far all season, which is incredible, but I've had to be because United have been just as good. They are on a 28 game unbeaten league streak. I have just played them 3 times in a row, having drawn them in the semis of the CL. Drew 1-1 at Anfield in a game I should've won (Ryan Shawcross OG levelled it up for them) and I feared getting smashed at Old Toilet, but I switched up my formation to a 4-5-1 with Suarez wide right as an Inside Forward. Having snatched a 2-2 league draw after being 2-0 down at half time I figured they knew how I'd play by game 3, so switching it up was the best I could do. It proved to be a masterstroke because, despite them having 56% of possession, they never breached my back line, and a poacher's goal from Suarez gave me a 1-0 away win. Bring on Barca! I've maintained my stance on predominantly British, although I've got a few excellent foreign starlets. I'm pretty satisfied with my team right now, but I'll no doubt be making a few changes at the end of the season if I want to consistently challenge Barcelona. I played Real Madrid in the quarters of the CL, beating them 3-1 at Anfield at 2-1 at the Bernabau so I'm confident I have their number, but United, Spurs, no doubt Barcelona, and bizarrely WBA are all teams I need to find a defining way to beat. My youth prospects look good, so when I do eventually step down from my job to manage Scotland (the only job I'd leave the Reds for), I'm confident whoever comes in to take over will have a good basis to build from
  9. Leigh Griffiths (Wolves, on loan to Hibs) about 3-5 seasons in would be much appreciated! Many thanks
  10. I'm now in November of season 2. Season 1 ended well, with a domestic treble in the bag. Season 2 has started in a similar way, with a few bumps along the way. By October I found myself sitting in 3rd, with a game against Man City (top) to come. I have found City to be immensely frustrating to play against at times. Last year they beat me 5-3, after I'd pulled it back to 3-3. I wanted to start hard and fast, so I switched from my usual 'control' to 'attacking'. Kept it as such for the whole game. Best decision I've ever made as we ran out 6-0 winners! Needless to say this delighted the fans Qualified top of my CL group with two games to spare after 4 successive wins. Pushing on nicely in the Carling Cup too, and I've just beaten Fulham 5-0 in the league despite having 10 men for 65 minutes. Big Andy is banging them in now thanks to a successive run of games. Transfer wise I've stuck to my original targets of keeping things predominantly British, although I did splash the cash on Javi Martinez in the summer (great buy!) and I'm picking up Christian Eriksen in January, with Tom Huddlestone completing a 15m move away to Man City. My reserve team are top of their league, my under 18s are currently 3rd, one win away from top. I'm very happy with my team so far. I have good squad depth, but we'll see what happens in January as City are sniffing around a lot of my players!
  11. 4 games left of the season and number 19 is in the bag!!!! Woohoo!!! Struggled the past few games though, and lost to United at OT 4-2. Bounced back after that and saw it through. Won the Carling Cup with a convincing 4-0 win over Chelsea (they had more shots than me), and have the FA Cup final against Aston Villa to look forward to as well, after a lucky semi final draw (Villa got Arsenal, I had Scunthorpe ) Could be the treble!!!! Annoyingly the game just crashed on me though when I was 1-1 with Spurs at WHL and Adebayor had just been sent off! Grrr! I always find Spurs difficult to play for some reason. The movement of their midfield is unreal! I signed Rivaldo on a free transfer, purely to see if he'll tutor some youngsters. Jari Litmanen has done the same (as well as playing the odd game and conjuring up some magical assists) and he's even offered to take up a coaching role. Ryan Shawcross has been a beast at centre back. His stats have gone up nicely, as have those of Danny Wilson. I can't see Jorgensen getting a game when he arrives at the end of his contract. Shelvey wanted first team football so I shipped him out to Southampton on loan and he did well. I'm planning on building 2 good squads moving forward, bringing through a lot of good youth players
  12. 23 games in to the season, I'm top by 13 points, although I've just drawn 0-0 away to West Brom. Gary Hooper has made a flying start to his Liverpool career, bagging 6 in 6, including a hattrick in the league cup semi final second leg, and a goal after 16 seconds against Man City in a 3-0 league win at Anfield (payback for my lone defeat, and with 10 men!). Funnily enough, as soon as Hooper signed, Big Andy started banging them in, cruelly denied a hattrick in the FA Cup by an own goal credited to their GK, although it had already crossed the line. Coates wants to leave due to lack of playing time, which is understandable. I have already lined up Mathias Jorgenson from Copenhagen on a free transfer at the end of his contract, and I'm developing my youngsters nicely as it is. One annoying element is that I bought Robbie Fowler for 90k, and he immediately decided to delay his retirement for a year. Hooray!!!! However, I wasn't allowed to offer him a playing contract, only a coaching one. Grrr. He is coaching my strikers on shooting though, with Peter Beardsley brought in to coach attacking. I'll keep you posted with how I get on
  13. Finally got round to spending some time on the game, and although it pains me to relieve King Kenny of his duties, I NEEDED to play as the Reds. Ok, I'm trying to keep it as British as I can, although I'm not adverse to the right foreign buy. After 12 games I'm top of the table, 3 points ahead of Man City. I've only lost once so far, and that was to City in a highly ridiculous 5-3 game at the Etihad. I had clawed it back to 3-3, but a couple of mistakes from Pepe Reina let Nasri in However, bounced back with a 2-1 away win at Arsenal despite going a goal down and them having 61% of the possession! Also knocked United out of the Carling Cup with a comfortable 2-0 win. I play a 4-2-3-1 mostly, as I can't get Carroll and Suarez to click. It's quite like real life in that I don't score enough! Haha. Didn't help that Bellers gots injured early on and has been out for a while. Adam Morgan got 20 minutes in the Carling Cup and scored, which is pleasing. Anyway.... Ins: Joe Allen (Swansea) 4.5m - I use him as a DLP - support when I'm resting Charlie Adam, and he is immense Tom Huddlestone (Spurs) 14m (had to pay over the odds!) - sits in my 2-man central midfield doing his job very efficiently Ibrahim Affelay (Barcelona) 1.7m (absolute STEAL! 4 goals, 10 assists) - he usually plays on the right wing as an inside forward where he's been immense, but I sometimes switch him to the left and play him as a winger, and occasionally behind the striker Danny Swanson (Dundee Utd) 2.4m - more of a back-up, but he's young and has bags of talent so I try to give him gametime when I can, usually behind the striker, but sometimes on the right wing Ryan Shawcross - 15m (again, heavy price!) - immense. does everything I need him to do, and has chipped in with the odd goal from corners too Outs: Daniel Agger (Man City) - 16m - I like Agger a lot, but the offer was made, and Danny Wilson does the same job so I let him go Lucas (Spurs) - 12m - originally eyed a straight swap for Huddlestone, but Lucas wasn't keen on the move, so I offered to clubs and Spurs came in. Not missed. Kuyt (Spurs) - 8m - this is the spurs of old, buying Liverpool rejects (in game terms). happy to get rid I have to admit Maxi Rodriguez (Valencia) - 6m - wasn't going to fit into my plans, but I'm still paying some of his wages! Curses! Spearing, Hansen and Ecclestone are all out on loan. I have signings set up for January, being Gary Hooper (Celtic) 6m, Leigh Griffiths (Wolves) 1.1m, God himself (some Thai club) 90k, Butland (Birmingham) 2m. Skrtel is off for 10m to Russia I believe. I'm getting James Forrest (Celtic) and Fraser Fyvie (Aberdeen) at the end of the domestic season, and I'll of course see what happens with transfer budget and my final league finish before I look at anyone else.
