  1. Apologies @knap, I check this thread specifically everyday without fail as my go to for tactics but missed the last few days and thats enough to earn pages of new comments, so Im sorry if what I am going to ask has been asked countless times.

Do you have a particular favourite tactic for this current ME.

I am enjoying this years FM because mainly it appears less easy to complete beat the ME / AI. What I mean is usually I have 2-3 tactic choices and what ever team I am, no matter if its a favourite or underdog etc seems to clean house and win easily. This year I am going on win streaks, loss streaks, losing to AI tactic changes etc. I dunno if thats down to me or if others are having similar results. Im not complaining as it makes the game more realistic to me.

I started with Foggia in Serie C and walked that league using one of your early HGF 451 formations (I cant recall the exact one). Did similar in Serie B before getting appointed manager of WBA who unlike real life were in the relegation zone of the championship. I had half a season and managed to get them mid table mostly using HGF. My first full season with WBA I continued using HGF and broke points and goals records in the championship. Fantastic I thought. However, in the premier league I went about 8-9 games without a win at one point and decided to change to Beowulf (P103 I think from your tests. ID 231099). It turned my season around and I have WBA flirting with the european places trying to be the best of the rest outside the english big boy clubs. I tends to really struggle with possession though (often between 41-31%). Is that Normal? I'm still finding my sides picking up a lot of yellow cards but just trying to man manage that during games etc.

Is there an individual training post up within the thread also.

As always thank you for your outstanding work as always. Makes the limited time I get on FM so enjoyable knowing someone far more knowledgable than me is creating good tactics.

  2. I am by no means as quick as most of you guys but i've just got through my first season with Foggia in Serie C.

Loving Fm as usual and while I havent used the Squad planner as much as maybe some do, I did enjoy looking at the assistant recommendations as to who is best in each position and who is the best up and coming player in each position.

Heres my problem though. The squad planner landing screen with all the different positions has literally hundreds of players listed who don't play for me, never have played for me, I have never ever scouted and don't sit on any of my shortlists. In short I have no logical reason for why they are showing up in the lists for EACH position. THe processing time just to load the squad planner up takes forever.

In terms of a fix or settings I cannot find anything that seems to control this or gives me an explantion as to why all these players (mostly 36 year olds + oddly) are appearing in these various lists of players. The only fix I can find is click on each individual position and then one by one go to each player and hit the - (minus) button and keep doing this through every position, an then switch to each formation loaded up and repeat the process. Its ridiculous.

Is there something really obvious i'm missing that is causing this as at the start of the game this feature simply featured players who played for me. Then you could add players from a shortlist if you wanted (I didnt). Then you could click next season and it would automatically remove players on loan or out of contract next season. Thats how I thought the feature would work.

  3. Finally finished my first season on FM23. Won Serie C with Foggia. (Won the Coppa Italia Lega Pro and Supercoppa di Serie C also). Only lost one game all season.

I'd estimate for 85% of the season I was using Holy Ghost Fire (I cant recall exactly think version as I stupidly renamed the files) but it was the version with a Inverted Winger on the left and Inside forward on the right. (Centre Mid Att and BBM Supply also in the centre). Really decent tactic. Plently of goals, albeit at a low level of Italian football. My Foggia side was only predicted 6th or 7th I believe.

Worked really well at that level. My Inside Forward on the right scored 30 odd goals and got plenty of assist! Turned an attacking midfielder I had on loan into an advanced forward and he did the business to. Noticed the centre backs massively high in the dribbling stats for the entire division as well.

    Great work again Knap!

  4. Most annoyBig is the corner goal frequency for me. Literally everyone is getting centre backs with 15+ goals a season. I’ve had to literally try best I can to sabotage my set plays so to make it more realistic.

also as usual penalties seem to be missed so frequently in the lower leagues. I get the lower leagues have worse stats etc but penalties are penalties. Just feels unless the taker has 17/20+ for pens they miss more than score. My best penalty taker for Barnet in the conference has scored 7/13 pens this season. Anyone else I’ve tried has missed theirs.

  5. Had this in my old Fm20 save. I thought it was a bug as like you I got told it would happen and then nothing. Simply didn’t hear anything more and couldn’t find anything in game to give me more clues. Eventually (like 3 seasons later the announcement finally came! But was worded along the line of local council have approved it etc and then it was listed in my facilities section with the time frame.

  6. Good to see someone taking on the challenge of my beloved Norwich. I am a season ticket holder for Norwich in real life (for my sins) but I generally never manage them on FM but I thought i'd give them a whirl this time because like you I wanted to know if I could save them. As a fan I would say they've really done a superb job researching norwich and making the players as accurate as possible.  I'm top half in my save in December. I spent my £10m budget on Jaime Seoane in centre mid (£2m), Luca Pelligrini at Left back (750k), Ezequiel Barco as a versatile attacking threat (£6.5m). Lastly when you start the save Mathias Normann is on loan. In real life he is our best player by a long long long way. The loan deal has a clause with a optional £10m fee...however I had an offer of £6.5m accepted. Bargain in my opinion. I sold Lukas Rupp for 4.5m as well as surplus. Tried to sell Kenny McLean and Zimmerman (6m each) but both failed to agree personal terms with the clubs who bid.

I've let so many goals in but i've just focused on trying to out score my rivals. For most part its working!

  7. Not negative feedback here. Very positive. I couldn’t get fm21 due to work, money, family, house blah blah blah. Just wasn’t possible. So for me fm22 was quite different (goodbye fitness % and hello little green hearts etc lol).

I love it. Absolutely superb. Finding VAR much much much better. On fm20 that I was still playing VAR was pointless as always the same outcome. Finding this edition far more varied adding to nervous waits for decisions just like real life.

Yes as always there will always be room for improvement, like press conferences for example. I don’t like sending my assistant, however they are still extremely repetitive. You can get away without reading the question most the time.

well done all behind the scenes for continued hard work.

  8. Only a small annoyance but it's something that's never happened for me in any FM and wondering if it's something silly i've accidentally done.

I'm 6 years into my save, top staff and facilities etc but my u23 squad keep playing 1 and often 2 goalkeepers outfield. They are still winning (and oddly scoring now and then) but its bugging me, especially when there is other youngsters who could be playing. I don't want to take control of the u23's myself and micro manage them to that extent but surely they shouldn't be playing keepers outfield. My u23's manager is instructed to use the same formation as I use with the first team but there is still players who could play before keepers outfield.

When ever the usual message pops up saying who from the first team are available for the u23's, if I set my veteran 3rd choice keeper as free to top up match fitness that almost always auto puts one of my u23 keepers outfield, but often they seem to just pick the 2nd choice u23 keeper as a DMC or CB.

Never had this issue before so just wondering if there is an option or setting I just never use or know about.

  9. Had the same on my save. When I took over Everton struggling in the Premier League the facilities screen stated a new stadium was at the planning permission stage. Nearly 4 years on and its the same, you cannot request anything stadium related with the board and i've heard nothing in the news about it. Meanwhile things have gone strength to strength on the pitch, winning the premier league, getting champions league football, selling players for big profits. So certainly isn't anything to do with cash flow. Really strange as selling out week after week and could be bringing even more cash in.

  10. Not moved onto fm21 yet but in 2023 on fm20 an the rules are brilliant. Players I’d never normally be able to sign as premier league side are easily purchasable (talking Brazilian wonder kids etc). Faced no wp issues at all so far. In contrast to fm19 where which ever random Brexit rules popped up, it always put me off managing in England an id stay abroad.

  11. Trying scouring the site but couldn’t find an exact answer to the specifics of my question. Hopefully makes sense.

In terms of the game, does a potential assistant manager or coach not speaking the clubs national language Make much difference in terms to players responses to team talks, or improvement in training?

yes I appreciate in real life the answer would be yes as how does he communicate with the players otherwise. However in game is this representative. I ask as I’ve always played journey man careers in many different countries. I usually try to sign an assistant manager that firstly Speaks English (To speak with me) an also the language of the country i’m managing in so he can deal with the players language barrier. Just for realism sake.

I Never knew whether it actually makes much difference in game though? Like does the game take this into account when players stats improve etc or they respond to a team talk (as a motivator etc).

    thanks in advance.

  12. Apologies for not moving on to FM21 yet but I always wait for the bugs to be ironed out before starting a new FM adventure.

Still playing my Aldershot FM20 save. Now in the Championship and made some rather underwhelming signings but my Spanish scout came up with this lad released from Sevilla. Thought id make a cheeky offer and he was interested (albeit wanting more than i've ever offered for a player at Aldershot lol!). He's head and shoulders above anything else i've got at the club. I may regret it if I cant get results but just wondered if anyone else has had joy with this lad in their game saves.

    Bryan Gil, Welcome to....Aldershot lol

Yeah I got the 17 foreign player limit one too. Looks like thats most common this year.

Strangely in FM20 on all 3 saves I did the UK didn't leave the EU.

Typically every same I did on fm19 and 20 we DID leave the eu an got similar rules to the work per net an 17 foreigners ones mentioned on fm21.

bit of a grind in some respects as I love building a top squad, not just team, youth academy etc but made it a bit more difficult. However equally I found 99% of the time a work permit NEVER got rejected after the Brexit rules come in, even on nations an players of low experience an rep that always would get rejected pre Brexit rules etc. Swings and roundabouts I guess
