  1. The "Doctor" option also seems to fix the long-term problem potentially (says it in the text). Many teams do not have doctors, so the specialist is the only option other than physio. Teams with doctors have the additional option of the doctor, which often appears to have the same potential effect as a specialist, except that, because (s)he's already on your payroll, you don't have to pay the fee.
  2. I think the only cost incurred by trials relates to coaching resources. Trialists occupy your coaches in training. So it's possible your contracted players' training results may be adversely affected by their presence. On the other hand, everyone outside of my senior squad is pretty much garbage anyway, so I don't care. I just move trialists to the U-23s, where they may detract from the team's training outcomes, but at least I don't care about the affected players.
  3. I find a DLP(d), BBM, AP(s) works for me in my LLM save. I use the same roles and duties for my midfield trio whether I use a 4-3-3 or a 4-2-3-1. I imagine if it works for an underdog in the VNN, it could work for a technically gifted squad like Arsenal. Good luck.
  4. My Very Terrible Striker, playing as a DLF, has 9 goals from 12 matches so far in the VNN. He's missing plenty, but he's also scoring pretty freely.
  5. In the Pre-Match Tactical Briefing, on the headers above the interaction type groups (just making up terminology, yep), there are sometimes bubbles with the word "Advice" followed by a number. There's no way to click on them, and there is no contextual explanation/hovertext. What are these? What do they relate to? What are FM players supposed to do with the [lack of] information?

  7. Ugh. Care to elaborate a little? This kind of mechanic is utterly obfuscated to the player, as you must know. There's a difference between using language efficiently and not even trying to be helpful. In what way does it matter? What kind of coach works well for which PPMs? Are coaching attributes, mental attributes, or some combination factored in?
  8. In CM 01/02 (maybe 00/01), I had a player head butt the referee. Earned himself a 9 month universal ban. I miss that. They're just sets of variables. They're not real players.
  9. Maybe, but, at least in my experience, as long as their squad status is sufficiently low, they seem to do ok. Either way, if he wants to solve the stated problem, I'm not sure there's another approach.
  10. Put them in the first team. Then set them to be available for 90 minutes in U19 matches. That should be all there is to it. Because they are in the first team, the U23s don't count them as available. But because you set them to be available for U19s, they'll still play for the youth team.
  11. Seeing as one's own assistant counts the current foreign under 21s already in the side when reporting on the foreign player limits, despite them being able to play without registering, I'm sure you're right that the AI loan system is unaware too.
  12. Weird. I have that problem on FM17, but you say you didn't encounter it until FM18. Either way, I think it's because, depending on which flavor of Brexit you got, they'll have to obtain work permits. Do you know which Brexit you got in FM17? How about in your current save?
  13. I think it has to do with the CA/PA system. Some of the vision attribute points are being repurposed elsewhere.
  14. My gateway drug game for management sims was a game called Baseball Mogul. Very similar to OOTP. It was packaged with Football Mogul (American football, in this case). It was pretty lousy. The main problem is the 16 game season. It's not really enough events to be satisfying. In FM, your team will get 40-50 games/season. In OOTP, you get 162. Basketball and hockey? 82 each. For a sim, where the only way to measure your progress is by analyzing the automated (or player-directed, but still largely automated) games, 16 is not really enough to give a sense of how your decisions affect the simmed outcomes. It's over before you know it. Further, play calling in American football is different than in any other sport. It's essentially a whole lot of set pieces, one after the other. I suppose you could call every play, or hire coaches to do that, but, at that point, you're in charge of too many little events for it to be any fun. So the granularity of it is deeply flawed. You either have to ignore the fundamental unit of football, the individual play, or be responsible for every single damned one of them. I see why the idea might be appealing, but, at least in the manifestation I've seen, it didn't add up to a very pleasant experience.

  16. I have no idea, sorry. I definitely think that the affiliate request system is unnecessarily obfuscatory and that the board feedback side needs to be expanded beyond its current skeletal form. So, while I haven't had your specific headdesk situation, you have my moral support.
  17. I completely understand what you're saying garethjohn70. No need to be so exasperated. Just ignore this thread if it's frustrating you. As lemeuresnew said above, this system is presented poorly. Probably because they've expanded the possibilities/capabilities of the underlying system without adding to the set of superficial feedback dialogue options. Sometimes the board say you have enough affiliates already immediately when you ask them. That's completely fine. But if they say, "Sure. Have a new affiliate!" only to say "Never mind!" two weeks later, something is not working properly. I don't want to cancel an existing link, which is why your suggestion does not interest me. I want more affiliate links. If I can't have any, just say so. It's the opacity of it all that's irritating. Finally, nobody is "angered at a computer game" here. And although this is "something {I} cannot change", the fine folks at SI certainly can change it.
  18. Why would they tell me I could select a feeder!?? Why would they agree to a new affiliate, offer me the chance to select one, and then say I can't have one anyway? If, when I requested a new affiliate, they said I already had enough, I would be frustrated, but I'd understand. But why wait two weeks to yank the rug out from under me? It's infuriating. I've had plenty of affiliate requests turned down for various reasons, including the "you have enough already, quit asking". That's not what I'm moaning about. I'm annoyed that my request for an affiliate is first accepted, only to be rejected after the review/negotiation period. If I'm being unclear regarding my complaints, I apologize, but your response really doesn't address my issue.
  19. Eh. While I may agree, to some extent, with your take on the broader affiliate system, your post doesn't really address my questions. And your point about friendlies is well taken, but entirely irrelevant to the OP. I'm trying to parse the way the system works or doesn't work now, not how its current state may or may not reflect what you or I would like to see from the system overall. My problem is that they offer me a chance to select a club, and then, when I suggest one, they say I already have enough affiliates. If I already have enough affiliates, just say that when I ask for another one. Don't say I can select one only to turn around and say I can't have one.
  20. I'm totally confused by the current state of the affiliate club mechanic. Playing as MCFC (yeah, I know), six game years in to my career, FM17. When I get the option to ask the board for an affiliate, they always come up empty, saying they can't find a suitable club, irrespective of what affiliate type I've requested. They have, however, begun offering me the option to suggest an affiliate. The problem I'm having is that, no matter, it seems, what club I select, the board tell me that I have enough affiliates and I should work with what I've got. Now, however I might disagree regarding their assessment, I can live with the logic. But they just told me a week or two ago that I could choose an affiliate! If they were telling me they couldn't work out a deal, well fine; that I understand. But to tell me I may suggest a club, only to tell me a few days later that I have plenty already is very irritating. Further, each affiliate only cost the club around, what, $100,000 per year? My budget can surely handle the cost, and I'm winning trophies left and right. There are backups making more per week than an affiliate would cost in a year. I don't understand the board's priorities or logic. Anyone had any useful revelations regarding this issue? I'm kind of irritated, but I can't tell if I'm being dense, or if I'm just getting FM'd by the board. Halp?

  22. Oh, yeah, baby. That's what I've been fiending for. Like gold through the veins. For me, the only real surprise is the Sheriffs inability to earn promotion. Without their idiots, aren't they just another BSS squad (with admittedly bottomless coffers)? This next season could be tough for them. As far as the Bandits go, it seems everything is going as planned. I'm loathe to predict an immediate promotion again, but I'm hoping.
