It is a thing of beauty that threads may evolve in new and unintended directions.
To make it clear, my original post never was about the merits of violence, gay, women, health or war issues, even though much of the following discussion revolved around the participants' subjective preferences over this or that. Quite interesting conversations, but "off topic" nonetheless...
My main point was that SI explanations to include or exclude such events are, in my view, highly inconsistent, and I sought to demonstrate this with a variety of examples (violence, gay rights, women's, covid, and Russian ban). That's all I said.
I want to say thanks to the moderators for understanding my point, and not giving in to the feigned outrage of a few people over things I never said or implied.

Do you get injured due to personal reasons?

But why? This isn't a playground, they don't have to pick a side, like the whole thing is black and white
As I said in the opening of this thread, the problem is in the lack of consistency in decision making. One day SI says the game is about realism, next day it says it's about escapism to justify the inclusion or exclusion of game features. This creates two problems:
1) the game becomes a Frankenstein of silly and mature features. And,
2) it shows lack of credibility in the SI leadership. The community can't trust what SI says.
I admitted in the beginning that I was being a bit picky. But I'm pretty surprised with the collective reaction in this thread. Did I inadvertently hit a nerve?... Apparently, yes...1 -

Anyway, @phd_angel and everyone else who thinks SI's current stance is "" - what would you do instead?
Pick a side. Be consistent: either assume the cartoonish sandbox of sameness (as the game currently is) or develop it towards a truly adult simulation of what football is in real life. I'd pick the latter.

I'm probably being a bit picky here but can't help but notice how Miles (err... SI) has a highly flexible view of reality for FM, switching positions according to the winds, as follows:
- violence and bribery: "no, FM is escapism"
- gay and women's rights: "yes, FM is realism"
- covid impact: "no, FM is escapism"
- Russia ban: "yes, FM is realism"

I've been noticing that my DCs get high ratings (7.5+) even though they play poorly and keep making silly mistakes leading to goals. Is this just me?

Great survey! Well structured and written. Unlike most surveys I see, this was flawless.
Can you please post the report or analysis here?

Groundskeeper asks this every year. I'd like to take advantage of this option.
I typically run smaller poor clubs, favoring counter style, exploring my two fast wingers on a defensive 4-1-4-1.
Which option should I choose?
Any simple rules you can share?
Thank you.

Never saw this before. Shameful players...

The Wikipedia Page on squad numbers does a decent job of illustrating historical squad numbering and listing out national variations.
Thank you!
It seems that my weird defense numbering was indeed used in 1960s Argentina in some shape or form. How curious...

Some useless yet interesting trivia question here... As a child, I learned jersey numbering from an old uncle who was an amateur player in 1960s Brazil, as follows:
DCR is n.2
DCL is n.3
DR is n.4
DL is n.5.
DM is n.6
Attacking positions are numbered the same as today.I still use this system, even as this seems old-school and unusual.
I wonder if such numbering was unique to South America in 1950s/1960s?...
Any bits of information or history are appreciated.

Training improves attributes and in some cases give you short term boosts for games, ultimately your tactics, choice of players for roles and how you’ve set them up matters. You can leave your ass man in charge of training, holiday mode a season and win a title if you set up a tactic right. No amount of training can improve a poor tactical system.
Sorry I disagree that it's ok to delegate training to ass man and all should be ok. (I could also say that it's ok to delegate tactics to ass man as there still is good probability you'll come on top - if you are coaching a rich, resourceful, top club).
Both tactics and training are important, and should be managed carefully. It's a mistake to underestimate training. It can equally make or break match performance.

Maybe setting a more challenging goal (such as, becoming national champion within 3 years; or winning the Euro with a mediocre club) will help you stick with a club for a little longer...
A journeyman is a good way to stay with a single save while trying a few clubs. It teaches you how to plan your career: while at a club, achieving good results will help you get a job offer elsewhere...
It may take 10 to 20 years to get a job at a mega club like Barcelona. (As a tip, in your pre-save profile, make sure you list your favorite clubs, as they may help you see when jobs are available at those clubs).
Good luck.

I'd bet you are doing something wrong in TRAINING, an area of FM that is hugely neglected by 99% of gamers in this forum...

In matches, I have a set of options for shouts (encourage, berate, etc.), and a set of options for instructions (possession, transition, etc.)
Now, IRL, how can you change tactical instructions if not through shouts?...
This distinction in FM doesn't make much sense from how things really work during a match, does it?...
Just noticed this after nearly 20 years...

Another follow-up.
So, if I get a scouting report like the one above that says Samuel Lie is 3.5 stars, does that mean he is 3.5 stars compared to the players on my team, or compared to the league as a whole?
Not sure why, but once I hire a player, his rating often drops by half a star...
As others mentioned, be careful using star ratings as its based on the faulty opinion of staff (one reason to hire scouts with high scouting ratings!).
For example, I hired a striker with 2.5 star potential but excellent ratings. Once he joined and started scoring lots of goals, his stars went up to 3 star potential! See image:

I purchased it, never to cheat, but to slightly improve my experience here and there: jersey numbers, salary corrections, etc. I'm probably underutilizing it, but it's good.

Agree with all notes above. I find it particularly odd that you can keep both club and international jobs simultaneously. This is quite unrealistic...

FM22 works flawlessly on my laptop, but it has been occasionally crashing during matches when I click on some player profiles
*** I admit, I'm playing a USA mod created by Zealand as well as Zealand's skin, so no fault of Siga or FM on this ***
Having admitted this, are there any tips that I could adopt to prevent crashes? Thanks in advance

Minimum Acceptable Pace
in Football Manager General Discussion
Posted · Edited by phd_angel
Do you have a minimum acceptable pace?
Of course, this may vary according to tactic and division, but let's assume more conventional tactics (4-2-3-1 or 4-4-2) in the first division of main nations.
Sometimes I struggle to decide whether to hire an ageing superstar winger with excellent crossing and technicals but only 10 pace, compared to a more average yet much faster winger.
What are your thoughts on pace? Do you have a minimum?
