It was a disapointing first 6 months in charge at Hartlepool, after numerous bad results and poor form I was ordered to an emergency board meeting in which I was given a target of achieving 10pts from my next five games. With 3 wins 1 draw and 1 loss, I met my target. We followed up on the good form making a late push for the playoffs finishing 9th and 4 points adrift from the final playoff place. Feeling proud of turning it around, this gave me confidence going into the following season.
Second season we won the league by 1 point, on the final day. A great season capped by a mean defence, conceding only 34 goals. This was also followed with a very good run in the FA Cup, reaching the 5th round only to be eliminated by premiership West Ham in Extra Time after a replay.
3rd season in League One I was currently in 4th place, 2 points off the automatics after 25 games. I had just beaten Reading to reach the 4th Round of the FA Cup. The following day after the new owner had taken over earlier in the week, I had the news report announcing the new chairman has sacked me to bring in his own man.
After all the time I had put in over the last couple of months, scraping by on a minimum budget and promoting youth from the academy, I am gutted with the decision to replace me at the club. I was thoroughly enjoying this career
