  1. I was trying to revamp an old Mitropa Cup (custom) file.

The rules in that file picked the past winner of the 2nd division of a bunch of pre-selected leagues. Is there a way to make it related to the UEFA coefficient? Like "pick the winner of the 2nd division in leagues ranked Xth to Yth in order to have  variety and to keep the level of the competition more even?

  2. I solved it with by adding a string to the name fix... However, there's  a much more pressing issue now!

The new club is based on the Faroe Islands but I added it to the Danish league system. And apparently the  game recognizes it as a Faroese club (created players have Faroese names and nationality, Grey Players have Danish names but dual nationality).

The thing is, while the Club Vision states  "can only sign Faroese players", if  I try to offer a contract to ANY Faroese player, I get  an error message  "you can only sign Faroese players". As if it wasn't recognizing those players as such!

Is it because  due to the club's dual location, now the game expects those players to  be Faroese BUT based in Denmark?!

  3. My DoF (and Chief Scout in other DoF-less setups) keeps on flooding my inbox with reports of ludicrously bad players who wouldn't make the bench, nevermind the starting XI, not now, not in 4 years.

My Chievo is currently sitting 5th in Serie A in our first season after promotion, but my DoF still reports me of "leading Lega Pro players" (ie. third tier). Even the alleged prospects are quite awful and are already old enough not to have a lot of room for improvement.

I can set criteria in individial scouting assignments, but where do I tell my DoF to stop recommending me players with 75 rating who actually are 2.5* at best?

The "Filter" allows me to pick a higher threshold for the Rating, but as said, my DoF's idea of an "80" is not really what it should be.

Don't know why anybody gives these type of topics the time of day, not to be rude. But every attribute is needed and i take into account many different attributes when judging a players talent and suitability to a role, there really isn't a debate worth arguing here.

Because let's be honest, the difference between 14 Decisions, 13 Composure and 12 Decisions, 14 Composure isn't something you're ever gonna notice or appreciate.

And that's not even going to take into account the discrepancies in I/O between TC and ME, meaning your top-level DLP will misplace passes or play backpasses as if he were a banana-footed Sunday League "kick anything that comes your way" DM, while a League One DM will have a Xavi-esque game in a FA Cup match, better if against your 150M midfielders. Just becuase "numbers" or because your tactics isn't what you think it is and has so many flaws any average side can cause problems.

So yeah, there IS a valid reason to suggest streamlined VISIBLE attributes. All those we have can still exist under the hood, but I wouldn't oppose a more "generic" assessment with fewer macro-attributes.

The instructions at that part also confused me trying to install this on FM20 today. I first put it in the Username/AppData directory but it didn't work. Putting the 'ads' folder into the standard directory where you put stuff like kitpacks/facepacks and other editor data (C:\Users\USERNAME\Documents\Sports Interactive\Football Manager 2020) has got everything working. Thanks @strangerthankindness

I've tried to copy the "ads" folder with the .xml file in Username\..\Football Manager 2021\graphics and the other "ads" folder (with all the pics) is in the \pictures subfolder.

    Still doesn't work.

Apart from really narrow systems, I have managed to make every system that you can think of work in FM 2020. Sure there is always a meta in any game but any well thought out tactic can work and let you overachieve.

I don't care one bit about overachieving!

That can be done by simply setting up the Overpowered System of the Year. Or by downloading any of the 624512 versions of said system available here or on Steam. Or just by waiting AI teams to self-destruct and by scooping up top-level free-agents and winning by brute force from Season 3 onwards.

I want to lose if necessary, but by playing whatever ill-conceived system I had in mind, whether it's playing 4-5-1 hoofball with Barça or getting a bunch of San Marino amateurs playing Eggen/Zeman's 4-3-3 and being exhausted by the hour mark.

Instead the ME will almost inevitably gravitate toward its "favourite" set pieces almost ignoring whatever set of TI you have set up.

personally I don't see why you'd leave a "stroll to the title while winning CL football and the ClubWorldCup" for a "team in same division struggling to qualify for Europe" - but that's the situation I found myself in after a while,
dominating all competitions isn't all it's cracked up to be - some players just prefer the "build the club up off their own foot", which you can't fault them for doing

The game seems to fail to fully recognize the huge shift in the balance of power. So despite Max Rep and the #1 spot in every possible ranking, your all-conquering Stockport County will still be overshadowed by all kind of fallen giants. Or even by Europa League-level clubs for some reason.

I'd be fine with players wanting to leave to get more playing time, to become the Big Fish in a smaller pond or for any other reason that "wants to move to a bigger club where there's NO bigger club than the one they want to leave.

plus, you also see players IRL joining because of certain factors,
your Everton side might have been all-dominant for 30 years, but some people will still see "playing at Bernabeu" as the pinnacle of their career

But that makes sense as long as Bernabeu is the stadium where a Top Club plays. If Real has become "CL knockout round filler" in FM gameworld, is it still worth considering playing at Bernabeu a career highlight?

Like, from the late 80s til the early 2000s, AC Milan was a world-class club and players would have paid to play at a packed San Siro alongside Maldini, Van Basten, Kaká or Pirlo. And then the club fell from grace and they had to chase players like Destro and Borini, plus a plethora of aging free agents. But San Siro was still the same awesome stadium with a hot crowd.... the difference was there was little to play for, so it wasn't as attractive as it once was.

FM fails to recreate that, meaning your Quadruple-winning striker will raise a fuss because he wants to join PSG or Barça and procede to have the domestic cup as the biggest goal of the season from now on.

heck, Cristiano did it when he swapped ManUtd for RealMadrid IRL (apparently that's a bug), and then again did it a few years ago when he joined Juventus

CR7 falls straight into the "wants a new challenge" category IMO.

it's also the case with Brewster leaving Liverpool to go to SheffUtd

That's just Liverpool selling a (former) hot prospect (who's suffered a serious injury already) while keeping an eye on him should he reach his alleged potential.

Actually that doesn't happen often enough in FM unless the player has a high PA and he'll be in high demand almost regardless of his attributes and performances, but that's another story for another time.

1 ora fa, samdiatmh ha scritto:

Players do weird things IRL, and it's kinda good that the "world max rep side" isn't some almighty cheat code for attracting players (although it certainly helps) - some people have different ambitions for their own career

if the OP is selling players as soon as another team puts a bid in, then you've essentially marketed your club as a stepping stone - put your foot down and keep some of your better players (so you can build that story)
Arsenal/PSG don't sign 500 players a window, they have a list of players to work through - if 50m isn't enough, then reject it and move on with your life, they'll find that role eventually

    That's the right strategy.

Don't give in to their demands. They may be upset for a while but then the wins and the trophies will remind them why they'd stay put instead of leaving for a bigger worse club.

  8. Before we (and SI) even entertain the idea of more freedom in tactics creation, maybe we'd advocate for a more consistent and CLEAR I/O.

All the fancy roles, the new ideas and the (long overdue) WB/WOB scenario are still kinda useless, or even counterproductive, if we still have narrow formations yielding a ridiculous amount of crosses and wide play, direct styles and instructions still generating way too much dwelling on the ball and backtracking, possession-based strategies still creating awful hoofball and so on.

I'd rather have 2 roles per position and 5 general playing styles BUT those working a charm than having 350 options and thousands of combinations only to end up with most teams (human and AI) playing the same kind of football because the ME tends to gravitate toward it. Frankly the difference between completely different styles isn't as noticeable as it should and it greatly affect the game's variety, not to mention most human players will prioritize results over tedious and rather pointless experimenting. If 4-2-3-1 Gegenpress is the Tactics of the Year, why bother trying to make a 3-4-3 Direct work, when it won't look like anything you had in mind AND it'll take months of fruitless tinkering and poor results?

We are thinking about putting some fancy tiles in our bathroom while we still have to figure out how the plumbing system works and sometimes when we open the tap, the toilet flushes instead...

After 30 seasons being heavily inclined to develop my youth squad, I can reassure you that center-backs with positioning '3', strikers with first touch and finishing between 4 to 7 and goalies with handling '6', won't go anywhere in Budesligua, unless we are looking for new cleaners :onmehead:

True, but not every kid in Bayern or BVB U18 is going to have what it takes to make it in the Bundesliga, or even in the Zweite... So CBs with positioning 3 will likely enjoy a nice career a couple of levels below that, always reminiscing fondly that magical year they got to train with a Top Club academy.

So many FM'ers have this odd misconception that because they have top-notch recruitment, facilities and stats, their club will churn out Müllers or at least Badstubers year after year, while IRL the vast majority of academy prospects end up having unremarkable careers in the lower tiers of the professional pyramid, if not even among the amateurs.

Did you use an edited database? If so, there could be an issue with the database that is causing this.

It is an edited db, but I've checked the edits and the club I'm using has been left untouched.

Basically it's just an add-on expanding the playable leagues a couple of levels below the lowest playabe in the default db, but no edits to anything but league structures.

Not even a real-time editor is changing things... I've tried to set the club as Professional, with a hefty wage budget and a healthy balance... Still nothing! Only those awful N/C with App fees and a few extra bonuses.

  11. Got my amateur side promoted all the way to Italian Serie D (4th tier).

At the end of the previous season, the board proposed me to go semi-pro and I accepted as the players do need more training time to stay fit/competitive. And I was tired of losing some decent prospects for free due to them only having Amateur contracts.

So, the new seasons begins and I find out I can't offer Part-time contracts! Only stupid Non-contracts with Appearence fees and other minor bonuses. Plenty of players get lured away by lowly offers as low as £500 p/w in the same tier or even one level below.

I've never seen this happen before... Actually the "bad" part of going semi-pro was that even the shittiest trialists, or long-shot prospects had to get offered an actual contract, even if it was only a few tenners p/w. Instead now I'm even unable to offer my Star player a contract, meaning my only way to keep any of them is loyalty and whatever "reputation" we may have as a club+manager combo. Which isn't much.

Could it be because we are still quite poor? Like 60k wage budget and 90k in the bank?!

Nice, wages okay?. Must be a fun Team?.

All Amateur contracts, so no wages or bonuses...

Actually the overall lack of pace is a huge liability and we've been conceding 1 or 2 goals way too often. But we can easily score 4 or 5, so it's all good.

I don't think I'll try this trick again next year, as we're going semi-pro and then I won't be able to sign 50 players per season

Wow. What is your reputation like? I would guess something fishy going on sice you are playing with edited db.

Reputation was around 6-700, then skyrocketed at 1200 with all those prestigious signings.

There IS definitely something fishy going on, but it's not about the club...

Just curious, but why does it make no sense? I've seen the AI move a defender up front as a Wide Target Man a couple of times and if you're chasing the game going Route One I'd argue that's actually a quite sensible move and something you often see in real life as well where a tall defender is moved up front to be used as a Target Man when you pump the ball forward in a desperate bid to score a goal.

Tall defender as TM in a desperation move is fine.

Not particularly tall, right-footed CB moved to the AML makes little sense. Much less if he then procedes to score a volley goal befitting a great left-footed forward...

Emergency additional strikers play right in the middle of the attack, trying to flick balls through or to create some chaos with their size/presence. They're most definitely not playing as Wide Forwards pulling off top-shelf plays

If in your opinion it's the worst ME ever and you are getting no satisfaction from playing it then why are you still persisting with it?

For starters, becuase I've PAID MONEY for it and I'm trying to get as much value/fun out of it as I can. Unfortunately, when a supposedly fun game makes you wanna punch the monitor and throw it out of the window, it's not a good sign.

Then because despite the godawful and inconsistent ME, the rest of the game is actually fun and feels more organic than ever. And it makes the ME ****show even more frustrating and annoying...
