MERROW FC
A good season, reaching 101 league points and winning the league cup, but disappointed losing in the FA Vase semi final on penalties, and also losing my unbeaten league season right at the end, but I can't really complain. I guess it gets tougher now....

MERROW FC
A good first season with a league and cup double. Next season should be fun - we've gone semi-pro, moved grounds to share with Farnham Town, we're expected to win the league, whilst playing both attacking and counter attacking football...!

So, I have been given the opportunity to become manager at Merrow FC, based in Guildford, Surrey. They are looking for a top half finish, with promotion the following season.....
Here is my manager profile, and announcement of my appointment.

Hi,
I'd like to give this a go, but unsure how to download this update. Any help would be excellent....
Thanks.
Edit: Worked it out - I'll update shortly.

It was third interview lucky for Jack Bauer, as South African First Division side Royal AM offered him the job as manager. They have fairly lofty ambitions, so could be interesting. I start in SA Division One in 7th place after 12 games. The board expect play-offs!

Hey! I'm in - meet Jack Bauer! I have the Indian and South African league loaded, and ready to find a job. Wish me luck!

Season 9 - Finnish First Division (2nd)
Despite dropping in to the First Division last season, this was definitely my favourite year so far in Finland. Even with the disappointment of the end of season developments, I can look on this season with fresh optimism.
I decided before the league started that the team needed re-energising, so I let some of the originals go, and introduced some of the youth players with the best potential, and did they impress! We immediately turned in to a team that created far more chances than we did previously, and they seemed to be playing with more freedom than the outgoing originals. I was a breath of fresh air. We progressed through the group stages of the Finnish Cup, and made a great start to the league campaign. Losing in the cup second round was a bit of a set-back, and a mild blip mid season in the league left us in 2nd place in the table, and therefore qualifying for another play-off match. We won the semi final, but lost out in the final to VPS of the Premier League. We were favourites to win that match, but suffered a heavy 3-0 away defeat, drawing 0-0 at home.
The was news after the match that the club are returning to semi-pro life, which is a shame, but the cost of being pro was a big stumbling block in our progress, so hopefully these fortunes change. So I am not too disheartened about that.
LEAGUE TABLE
PLAYER OF THE SEASON
Foos Afrah 06a is a real fans (and manager) favourite. Only 20 years of age, and instantly has become our best player. There hasn't been any real interest in him yet, but I expect to be fielding some calls next season.
YOUNG PLAYER OF THE SEASON
Foos Afrah 06a, won this award too, but I should give a shout out to two other rookies this year, Aleksi Palosaari 08a and Juho Pitkanen 08j.
YOUTH INTAKE
Absolutely rubbish. Nothing to add.
IMPROVEMENTS
Nothing.

Season 8 - Finnish Premier League (12th)
....but at least the new Chairman was happy...
Not the season I had hoped for, but it was always on the cards. We stayed up last season by a whisker, and nearly performed another miracle this time as well. If we had of drawn our final match we would have gone into another play-off. We conceded in the 92nd minute to lose 3-2, and back in to the First Division. We did deserve to go down though, and gives me a chance to get rid of some of the 'old-guard' and bring through some of the promising youngsters.
LEAGUE TABLE
PLAYER OF THE SEASON
Centre back Samuli Hölttä wins this award for the second time. The best of a poor bunch really.
YOUNG PLAYER OF THE SEASON
I'm more excited about the emergence of 2nd season youth prospect Janne Oikkonen 02a, who picked up the young player of the season and was the top scorer this season with 12 goals. Joint top in the division.
YOUTH INTAKE
There was an improvement in Junior Coaching at the beginning of the year, so some decent prospects in the intake, including a random Russian. I may involve a few next season in the lower division.
IMPROVEMENTS
Junior Coaching Upgrade, before the money ran out.

If I don't get fired this season I'll be amazed.
90% of goals I'm conceding are from crosses into the box, and I can't work out how to stop this, I've tried everything. Any ideas?
Currently winless in 11... help!

SEASON 7 - Finnish Premier League (11th)
MORE PLAYOFF DRAMA
Survival was the only outcome that mattered this season, and what a way to do it! We looked safe with 2 minutes of the regular season remaining, but a FC Honka goal pushed Hari and his team in to the two legged relegation play-off match against the team that won the First Division play-offs. That team was FC KTP. With the first leg at home, we disappointing trailed 2-0 early on, but saved our blushes by levelling up to make it 2-2. Fortunately there was no away goal rule, as the away leg finished 1-1. This meant that our fate was in the hands of a penalty shoot out.
Which we won 4-3!! We made it. Next season will be just as tough, as we are still using many originals due to the poor youths coming through. Maybe I should take a chance on a few more of them.
LEAGUE TABLE
PLAYER OF THE SEASON
This award goes to Onni Heinikken again, as he adjusted to Premier life with ease.
YOUTH INTAKE
One stand out player in this bunch, Nordine Messaoudi, the rest are more of the same.
IMPROVEMENTS
This might end in tears financially, as we're not making money in this league, but we've agreed to upgrade our youth recruitment.

It seems the Finnish Premier is a big jump from the First Division. Struggling early on with 0 points from 3 matches.
Survival in the Finnish Premier is really touch and go, my players are trying their best but the quality is lacking in the attacking areas, and we're getting found out. With only 7 matches left I'm just inside the relegation play off place by 1 point. The most likely outcome at the moment is a play off match with a team from the First Division.

Season 6 - Finnish First Division (3rd)
SpoilerWell, what a season! It started horrendously, and after 7 games I was sitting proudly in the relegation zone, and Hari Litmanen was seriously considering what his future would hold when the board realise what was going on. However, he decided to throw a new tactic together, and see what happened. What did happen, was a 10 match unbeaten run, taking the Hercules army matching into the top four. That was where we stayed for the remainder of the season, and qualifying for the top half promotion league. The top team gets promoted, and 2nd-4th end up in the play-offs. We'd lost in the semi final of these play-offs the two previous seasons, and wanted to at least go one better. We finished 4th, and then won against the 3rd placed team to reach the semi final again. We then beat the team in 2nd to progress to a two legged tie against the team that finished 2nd bottom in the Premier League. So we faced IFK Mariehamn, and in the first leg we won 1-0 at their place. In the second leg, it was tense, but despite the 0-0 scoreline, I felt I was always in control. Therefore, Hari and his men are promoted to the promised land of the Finnish Premier League. Next season aim - stay up!
PLAYER OF THE SEASON
Onni Heikkinen again - a wonderful midfielder.
YOUTH INTAKE
Not impressed with this again, we desperately need upgrading.
My favourite two - Foos Afrah, a Finnish/Somalian winger, and Niko Koski.
IMPROVEMENTS
None.

SEASON 5 - Finnish First Division (3rd)
Play-off heartbreak for the second successive season, and again it was in the semi final stage. A win in this match would have given us a final against a team from the Finnish Premier Division, but this time it was Rovaniemen Palloseura (RoPS) that denied us. I actually started the season really poorly as I tried creating a new full-on attacking formation, but despite having 60%+ possession each match, and more shots on target, we were getting picked off in true FM fashion. I reverted back to the same formation as last season, and we started marching up the league again, finishing in 4th before the split, and 3rd at the end of the season.
LEAGUE TABLES
PLAYER OF THE SEASON
A first club award for original, Onni Heikkinen, and since a loan move a couple of seasons ago, he's been brilliant. I'm expecting even better next season.
YOUTH INTAKE
When I advertised for a new HOYD last season, I surprisingly got an application from a Brazilian named Toto, an Ambitious individual with decent ratings that a good HOYD should have, so to get this intake was a little underwhelming:
I've picked this three to show-off, but I'm not expecting any to feature any time soon. Introducing, Ilkka Keskinen 05a, Ossi Siira 05b and Simon Kinnunen 05c.
IMPROVEMENTS
None. Still struggling with losses, despite the £160k pumped in from the board.

Finally...
Having had the same 58 season ticket holders for four straight seasons, they have clearly persuaded 6 new family members to take up on the offer, as we've now got a whopping 64 of them signed up. Hopefully this continues to rise now, as I need to find a way of slowing down this increasing debt.

This one hurt. Missed out on qualification by 2 goals
Youth intake decent again, got a new first team midfielder and a whole pile of 2 star prospects. Still no CB
Gotta play the rest of the "relegation" stage, but we have no real risk of that as we sit 3rd... 11 games left of the season.
Bit gutted. First time ever we went more than 1 game
2 goals, ouch! Next season is your year....

Not sure why I'm so stagnant, someone tell me it will get easier!
I had three season identical to yours. Luckily our sponsorship increased and it allowed me to convince the board to go pro, which improved our fortunes slightly. Downside is I'm losing £30k each month! Hopefully the bosses chip in with a cash injection as the recent sponsor cash only left me £40k in the black.
Keep going....

SEASON 4 - Finnish First Division (2nd)
I am so distraught by how this season ended, I can't even tell you. Hari's men have had three seasons of lower half finishes, and final day survival scraps, so no one would expect this season to have been any different. The Chairman was showing ambition of a top half finish, but I don't think even he was believing his own hype! However, he seems to like me and after the previous season finished he accepted my ludicrous suggestion of turning professional. However, he obviously saw something I didn't as despite a slow start to the season we gradually found some form in both the league and cup and went on this crazy form taking us into an unlikely promotion battle. Add to that, we had taken out two Finnish Premier League teams, in reaching the Finnish Cup semi final, a competition we were only supposed to 'compete' in. We narrowly lost 1-0 in the semi final to eventually winners, Turun Palloseura, (TPS) to you and I. Back to the league, the run continued, and we finished the regular season top of the pile.
LEAGUE TABLE
Then came the promotion league, which the top six play each other once, and a solid start, meant we picked up 4 points from the first two fixtures, leading SalPa by three points, with three games left. We lost the next two, including an away tie at SalPa, and we trailed them by three going into the final game. We won, they lost, we finish 2nd on goal difference! To make matters worse, we then had to play in the play-off semi final versus Tampere United, and as they finished lower than us, they got the home advantage! They beat us 1-0, and the season ends with a whimper! So despite winning manager of the season, player of the season and goalkeeper of the season, we have to do it all again.
PROMOTION LEAGUE TABLE
PLAYER OF THE SEASON
Haris Dzuho wins this again...
YOUTH INTAKE
More of the same, nothing to shout about.
Here's the pick of the bunch, Mikael Siira, but his low determination annoys me. HOYD needs to change I think.

SEASON 3 - Finnish First Division (8th)
Our worst points tally so far, but a season that gives hope going forward. Hari's men were flying at the early stages of the season, and hopes were pinned on a top 4 finish. But the famous FM collapse kicked in and we sunk like a stone, in to the bottom half. This is were we stayed. However, the bright side is we managed to improve our youth facilities to 'basic', and surprisingly turned pro. I asked, expecting to be swiftly shown the door, but Mr chairman was well up for it. I hope I haven't made a mistake!
LEAGUE TABLE
PLAYER OF THE SEASON
Haris Dzuho won his second player of the season award despite being knackered all season.
YOUNG PLAYER OF THE SEASON
Marauding left winger, Hekuran Harani won his first award.
YOUTH INTAKE
Not impressed at all with my Finnish/Iranian Head of Youth Development. I had a stern word with him after he came in to my office with this document!
Sauli Ruokangas, looks ok though if he can fulfil his potential. Maybe being a pro club will help this?

Season 2 - Finnish First Division (8th)
An injury ravaged season put us off to a bad start, and things didn't really improve after that. Although we were picking up points when we needed to, we were never far off the drop zone. In fact, we weren't mathematically safe until after the final game, but I always had faith in the squad. Unfortunately, the youth intake from both seasons hasn't produced anyone first team ready, so I'm still sticking with the originals for now. When they play well, they can compete with anyone, but that doesn't happen too often.

SEASON 1 - 2020
Hari Litmanen made a good, yet unspectacular start to his life in football management as he guided 'Herkku' to a mid-table finish in the Finnish First Division, which was the remit from the board. It looked like better was on the cards early on, when he remained unbeaten for the first eight matches of the season, but the other teams soon caught on to his style of play and results and points became harder to come by. Harshly though, having been in the top half for the whole season, Hercules dropped to 7th on the final day, pushing them in to the 'relegation play-off' to compete with the 5 teams that finished lower. Luckily we remained unbeaten in this mini league and with the points we had already accumulated, we were easily safe from any danger.
LEAGUE TABLE
PLAYER OF THE SEASON
A lot of our attacking focus was set around set pieces and long throws, with Haris Dzuho the focal target for all these plays. Chipping in with 11 goals he was crucial to our style of play, and will remain so as long as he is with us.
YOUNG PLAYER OF THE SEASON
Haris won this award too, even though he's 24.
YOUTH INTAKE
I was actually hoping for more, but maybe as the current squad is fairly decent I shouldn't have expected much from intake 1. However, here it is:
My pick of the bunch are, Resolute striker Benjamin Toivonen 01A and the fairly determined duo of left back Niilo Aksentjeff 01B and defensive midfielder Olli Sarajärvi 01C.
IMPROVEMENTS
There was a pre-arranged ground improvement when I joined, increasing capacity by 200.
I also managed to get my first coaching badge. I didn't push for more as we were losing cash fast.

Another 1st place finish, but this was much tougher. We needed a draw on the final day of the season to secure the title ahead of Egham Town. For some reason we were not entered in to the Combined Counties Cup, and had early exits from both the FA Cup and the FA Vase.
So, ahead we go into the Regional Leagues, the finances are still in the black (£40k ish), but I assume things will start to get tougher.
I've got a bit of a rebuild to do also, as most of my best players were poached during the season.
