  1. Personally i'd try and stay in the championship and build a sustainable structure to the club. If you get promoted your reputation will only increase slightly and then you'll end up signing players who are barely premier league/championship ability on extremely inflated wages. Try and find young prospects who improve your team but you can develop further by playing regularly at championship level and make these the base of your team for when you do make the prem, these will likely be much better than the quality you can bring in whilst your reputation is low. I normally find a good starting point is checking the youth players set for release when the list comes early april and picking out the best players from that (you can normally take them on trial straight away to get a better look at them). I've also had success taking cheap transfer listed regens from prem clubs.  After  a season or two in the championship your squad will be in a much better position to try and survive in the prem. 

    p.s. I've also tried the "go straight up" method with my Bath save, struggled to improve the squad and got thumped most weeks before I lost interest.
