  1. Have a look at this - It is from here Excellent work by @optimusprimal82 Full of insight, especially related to game management utilising your team mentality. Following the flow chart through a few games taught me SO much. It's a bit like the process Klopp went through when he moved Liverpool on from Heavy Metal Football madness to a more sophisticated team who understood when to fly forward and when to sit back. In short, the mentality of our opponents is not static, it fluctuates through matches in response to the changing circumstances, and so should ours.
  2. It is an indication that you have created a note for that player. You can find the notes on your homepage under 'notebook'
  3. Agreed. It shouldn't be beyond the realms of possibility to be able to say to your U18 manager - 'play so and so as an an AP in the AMC position no matter what I'm doing with the senior squad' - without having to actually be the U18 manager yourself.
  4. Yep, that seems to be the case. It's making me wonder about the managers of the other squads and whether they have their own version of creative freedom. I might try just setting a generic formation for a while - 4123 wide - and select the players I want in the correct positions, Then leave the rest to the managers.
  5. Thanks Seb, that's what I have been doing. Good to know I'm not missing something. Interesting. I do have my tactics saved and the U18s and U23s have been using them all season (7-8 games so far) but the option is still greyed-out. I wonder if it has to hit a minimum number of uses to qualify as 'previously used'? Thanks. I'll keep an eye on it.
  6. Can you instruct your U23 and U18 managers to play players in specific positions? I have some younger players learning new positions and want them to be played in those positions in every match. I think I've seen other posters alluding to doing this but I can't find any details on it for the life of me. Also, I have my U23 and U18 squads playing with first team tactics. However, when I alternate bewteen my 3 first team tactics it also changes the tactics for the U23s and U18s which may not be suitable for their upcoming matches. Can the U23 and U18 managers be set to choose between the 3 main tactics? I don't think so, but I might have missed something. How do others mange this?
  7. It's hard for me to judge because my graphics capability is lower than a zoetrope. Do people see things like step-overs, cutting across the ball with the outside of the foot, the occasional rabona etc.?
  8. You're spot on, Salah is even better. At the moment I have a good young prospect who can cover Mane's IF role on the left and Salah is really dangerous in his IF role on the right with attack duty.
  9. Great stuff. Really well thought out and articulated. Very similar to the journey I am currently on with Mane (ss) and Firmino (f9). The really interesting part is identifying a couple of hot prospects and moulding them into a similar pair to be backups, then rotations and ultimately, replacements.
  10. I've been asking the same question. No answer for me either. Seems really quiet in here at the moment.
  11. Hi e.g. to make Mignolet want to leave Liverpool for first team football. I have found 'career plans'. If I set Mignolet as 'doesn't want to be a - player - Liverpool', would that do the trick? Or does there need to be some adjustment to his happiness aswell, to make him 'unh'? I can't see a way to do that.
  12. Just wondering, does the lack of response mean it's not possible? Cheers anyway folks
  13. Hi Is it possible to use the pre-game editor to make a player want to leave his club? e.g. to make Mignolet want to leave Liverpool for first team football. I have found 'career plans'. If I set Mignolet as 'doesn't want to be a - player - Liverpool', would that do the trick? Or does there need to be some adjustment to his happiness aswell, to make him 'unh'? I can't see a way to do that.
  14. I have a custom scouting view with a lot of info to look through. Before players are fully scouted there are a lot of columns (eg Pros, Cons, Ability, Potential) full of 'Unknown, Unknown, Unknown... ' For me, the whole thing would look a lot cleaner and easier to digest if I could replace all the 'Unknowns' with an empty space. Is this possible?
  15. You're right. I'm beginning to realise that my experiences with finding staff on FM16 do not translate to the new game. On my current save there are LOADS to choose from and I only have a handful of playable leagues (as @BMNJohn suggested) with all the rest set on view only. I have used the add player instructions from the vid @robevz kindly posted and the game world seems really well populated. Colour me happy Thanks folks
  16. Good suggestion, thanks. I've given something similar to that, with a few playable leagues, and it's looking like a decent balance so far.
  17. Thanks so much for checking but you're right about how gamey that feels. Most of the fun comes from finding the right candidate and persuading them to join. I basically want a staff version of the custom database options you get when setting up the leagues at the start of a new game. But want doesn't necessarily get. 😁👍
  18. That's a fair point. Not enough staff to me means not enough to fill some pretty strict requirements. I only sign personalities that are high in professionalism, ambition and determination. I like the idea of a club culture that feeds into the players. I also use staff to increase the club's world knowledge. So I like to have a really diverse pool to choose from including every continent. Especially the nations like Egypt that have decent youth ratings. These requirements make the game fun for me but also make it tough to find enough staff to meet them and have the skill set required for a top club. A lot of the standard database staff that meet all of these requirements aren't interested because they work for my rivals. Your suggestions about leagues and detail levels are really good. Many thanks. I'm going through a few combinations now to see if I can find a balance that works. But the only thing that worked on 16 was to have loads of playable leagues. I was just hoping someone could suggest a magical editing way to force the game to load a whole host of staff without having to have their leagues playable.
  19. My dilemma is that I (obviously) want an active and competitive transfer market and realistic world football environment. The best way to achieve that seems to be by loading as many playable leagues as my PC can manage (not very many btw). However, I only intend to manage Liverpool. So I do not need other leagues to be playable. So, ideally, I would choose English top 4 leagues as playable and then every other country's top league as view-only (detail none). Then add to that the players from the top teams of each continent. But that doesn't add enough staff for me. However, I noticed on FM 16 (gave 17 a miss) that unless other leagues are playable I get a much shallower pool of staff to choose from. I am currently thinking of using the large/huge database and adding a few more playable top leagues from the really significant footballing nations and leaving the more peripheral ones as view-only. Is there any way to load more staff into the game without making leagues playable?
  20. https://www.cdkeys.com/pc/games/football-manager-2019-pc-steam-cd-key £12.99 bargain at that price Update - all working and totally fine - highly recommended
  21. In two simulated first seasons Klopp has been sacked 31/12/16 twice, replaced by Bielsa twice, who has signed one player only (Tobias Svendson) twice and brought in one member of staff (Claudio Bordon) twice. Both times Liverpool finished outside of the European places.
  22. Very interesting. So those are the only two. That's very good to know because it is difficult enough to work out the right tutor to give those two a bump without having to worry about negatively impacting upon the likes of sportsmanship and dirtiness. Thanks Cleon.
