I've never been able to 'fix' individual complacency with a Shout, but giving a mini team talk ("want you to make an impact" etc) when making a substitution seems to reduce the occurrence and improve body language of substitutes.

but my point stands - international management at its core is the most stripped down elements of FM
I don't disagree on this point, but maybe that's OK, and a realistic representation of international management?
I love international football IRL because of the inherent restrictions, not despite it! Probably not disagreeing, just have different interests 👍

I rail hard against SI for poor Implemented features and lacklustre releases but the fact they haven’t revamped international management is down to the fact international management is a classic sounds good at first but when you think about it, it would suck
- squad building is at its most stripped because transfers don’t exist. Your squad will stay relatively the same each year as international squads don’t have huge upheavals.
- no development of players - training is only there to bed tactics and that’s it
- you play like 15 games max a year and that’s in a tournament year. What are you going to do in between friendlies and qualifiers ? A whole lot of simulating
- if you care about the tactical side, that’s FM at its core not international management specific. Can’t properly test out tactics as there’s so little games you play in a year
Genuinely , it would suck. people have gone I want it and really don’t know what they want. I have never heard someone put a good idea forward on how to make it work and make it interesting within the same platform (I.e has to be part of the main game and not it’s own thing)
You can manage both a club side and national side at the same time, so there's no sitting around between matches.
You could make international management more interesting by implementing much of what's available already. There should be dynamics for your national pool / squad to encourage more consistent / realistic selections, and basic training with the ability to rest players.

On team cohesion, one thing to help is to make sure each player's individual training reflects their position and role within your tactics.
This will make sure each player eventually reaches full role familiarity.

For some reason vacant international jobs no longer show up in the job centre - they do show up in the job security tab though.

With regards to your club, as long as you're not going beyond your wage budget, I'd let the board worry about the balance sheet, not you.
You'll probably find that the board will inject cash if required, albeit likely not to the extent of the 'Sugar Daddy' examples.
I'm too mentally scarred by owners selling players over my head to worry about their bottom line.

Yea, I always wanted to be able to click on a board member and see their profile. It seems like the only time this information is available is when there is a takeover.
On older versions of the game you were able to view your Chairman's attributes, which was great, but this has long been removed (I have seen suggestions that complaints from some sensitive souls led to this).

Have you tried selecting over-age players who are not currently selected in the senior national team squad?
I've had this issue in the past with Argentina's Olympic team, where I had to look outside of the superstars because of a clash with senior team games which were due to take place at the same time.

To echo some of the above comments suggesting adding defensive duty to your DLP, if you also move your left-sided striker into the AM strata this will give you a 4-5-1 out of possession (when looking at average positions) and some more solidity.
This was the only way I could make this shape work as an underdog team - personally, I don't like the defense duty DLP in a flat 4-4-2 due to the gaps it creates.

Not the OP, but using three central strikers will basically 'break' a back 4 in the engine, as one striker will always be free.
In older editions of FM the AI would often switch to this tactic when desperate for a goal, with three centre backs the only way to counteract.
Mercifully I don't think that this remains as a default tactic, so we're now spared this from the AI at least.
