I've thought about playing Touch (which I have on Switch for a prior version) but for some reason, the thought of chewing out my reserve central defenders for poor training habits every week is more powerful to me.

    :D

It's funny you say that Mark, I got asked for part of that survey for long time FM players and I told them since I don't have a non-work computer I experimented with Mobile and Touch but I said it was just too different for me to get into, it felt like FM lite for people who are engrained with the old tried and true full version. It was a fun hour long conversation.

Just need Terk and Peacemaker to turn up and we've got pretty much the set mate

Terk, wow that's a blast from the past! Just gotta say though Mark what you and ThreeTen and Neil have turned this part of the forum into is the reason I wanted to come back and give it a try. I was really more involved in the Challenges forum through the old sign-ups of the time, but this is one of the most inviting and supportive spots on here.

It's funny, I was going back through some of my start-ups from college and thought there was some good there to uncover, but then I looked at one story, literally the first one I tried called "The Diary" of a exchange student who bought a journal of a manager, and the first post under it is, "seems good, but you should write longer posts", then some more supportive posts but I won't lie if it didn't color some things for me.

At that time I was trying to be something I wasn't as a writer or as a pretty new player to FM so the results weren't matching the story I wanted to tell. I think now, looking back at what I was doing I had the right ideas I just wanted to game to fit the story and not the other way round. There's nothing wrong with failing, but trying to develop a certain type of character from the jump and then the game not leading into that can be frustrating.

I guess this ramble is to say that when I do start writing again, and I hope it will be soon in my free time, I'm likely going to focus on a small self contained story, not some sprawling epic over a multitude of seasons and maybe try to keep the character pool small. Admittedly, I'm not ever going to be a piece by piece teller like you Mark or a detailed tactician or detail man with stats, but what I hope to bring to whatever I write is a good sense of world building and character creation. That's my goal and dream with what ever happens next.

  3. I had an idea for a "Wrestling" sign up that I never got round to doing.

Basically I'd create a league system (not sure about which Nation) but there would be 6 teams in the top division, this division would act as the 'Main Eventers'. Each team would play each other three times over the course of the season, with the overall winner at the end becoming the "Champion". At the end of the season the lowest two teams would be relegated.

The division below would be the "Mid Carders", there would be 16 teams in this division. They would play each other twice over the course of the season, with the highest team being automatically promoted and the winner of a play-off between 2nd and 9th (if that's possible, if not then 2nd-5th) effectively acting as the 'Money in the Bank' match. A total of 4 teams would be relegated to the bottom division.

The bottom division would be the "Jobbers". In this division there would be 10 teams, who play each other 3 times. The top 3 teams would go up automatically, there would be a playoff between 4th-7th to decide on the final promoted team.

There would be two cup competitions.

The first would be the "Royal Rumble". The competition would start with 1 group of 32 (if this is possible, I am unsure). They'd play each other once, with the four highest teams going through to a semi final. The semi finals would both be one game at a neutral venue, the same as the final.

The second would be the "King of the Ring". This would be straight knock-out style with all 32 teams entering at the same time. The winner would be the last man standing at the end.

There's a few things that I never got round to sorting out like which Nation it would be based in, prize money, how the teams would be decided etc. One idea I had was for the teams "style" to represent the kind of wrestler they would be, so if it was a powerhouse they'd have lots of big men good at tackling etc. If they were a high flyer they would have lots of pacy, skillful players etc. If they were a technical wrestler they'd have lots of very good technical players.

Those are the kind of ideas I'm looking for. A Royal Rumble might be harder, but KotR is doable as are some other ideas. I've also got some cool ideas when it comes to developing the sign-up for characteristics that kind of borrows from FMX, but will tie into wrestling. I'll probably open it up to 20, with the possibility to go to around 30 if interest is what I think it could be. Split evenly among faces and heels. If I get an editor soon I can try to get it up by the weekend, but I can't be certain on that. It's a tough and time consuming process so I'll do my best. It's a big goal for my first sign-up but if it's done correctly I'll really enjoy it.

  4. Sounds good Bergtaur. I'd be up for this

Do you have any ideas as far as the scoring mechanism? The reason everything is stacked te way it is is that it might be hard to make a world team of the year or win world player of the year while the players who are still there will be hard. I think it's fair, but if it can be improved I'd love for it to happen. I will be running this on FM09, because I'm really cheap and am waiting for the final patch.

  5. So guys, I've been thinking of getting my feet wet here by acutally putting on a sign-up and it's an idea that might come outta left field. As very few of you know, I am a very big fan of professiona wrestling and I got a crazy idea in my head. Basically it's called "Be The Man".

Ric Flair holds the record in America with the most world title wins with 16. This will be the football equvilent. I will create 16 forum users and place them on free deals in Europe to go to whomever signs them. All players will be age of 23, which is when Flair made his debut, so they will only be in the game world for around a decade.

Now, onto the scoring mechanism. Flair always said that to be the man, you gotta beat the man, so the quest will be for our players to rack up 17 total points on a scale that I have created for this.

League Team of The Year: 1 point

World Team of the Year: 2 points

League Player of the Year: 1 Point

World Player of the Year: 3 Point

If you have earned more than 17 points, congrats, you beat the man, but did you beat your opponents. The player with the most points at the time everyone retires will be crowned the champion.

I know it seems out there, but does anyone think that I could get some interest for this?

  6. I am going to do some testing tonight / tomorrow for a sign-up idea I have, I'll create a league and cup competitions for around 18 managers to take part in, and there'll be an auction or draft for the teams, players and managers. After the draft is complete I will ask each manager to submit 2 formations which if I can get the database to recognise them as standard tactics will then be added as the preferred formation for your team.

If this is possible I think it could get quite interesting as you might not bother bidding high for strikers if your tactics were going to be 4-5-1, etc.

If there's enough interest and if I can get the idea to work practically would you all be interested in something along these lines ?

TanO, I really think you have something going here. Maybe what you could do is a fantasy draft style thing, where you open up most of the best players in the world, that way you really do get the guys drafting players they want for the formation they feel like running. Like draft the starting 11, then a five person bench, and randomly fill in the rest of the team? I don't know, but I feel like that might be the best way to do it with what you want to do.
