I didn't watch the whole thing earlier but there was one point where Witchell was going into real eggshells mode with "scenarios" - stopping short of using past tense to describe the Queen for example probably won't find out but I reckon they knew around 3-4pm and were told there would be an announcement after 6, Huw kept stopping a lot after 6 so he was waiting for it -
PA thing I follow announced it about 5 minutes ago almost as if Huw was getting himself ready to do it but took his time

when 9/11 (and other major events) happened, both BBC and ITV were covering it live weren't they? seems a bit weird ITV are not covering this and have a normal schedule on. Could be creating an alternative for people to watch but considering this is one of those major operation things media have been practising for years, you'd think the two main channels in the country would be covering it. Unless ITV would rather do it from later on

helicopter would make more sense, will take a few hours to reach Balmoral at this time of night if they are going to announce this at 6pm, it would mean they are there rather than on a road

apart from the breaking news ticker which is normally always red (but will change when a death is announced), all the BBC graphics seem to be black for when they are mentioning correspondents I think we are all waiting for the pause and then "this is BBC News from London" from Huw

I think sport is off for at least a week in the UK not sure how it goes for things outside it (Champions League) though

woke up on Sunday morning, noticed GMTV was full of black graphics normally stayed up late on Saturday nights but that was one of the times I didn't do so, went to my bed before the accident happened as BBC1 were still doing "closedown" at that point if people remember that

there's still people out there wondering if Cybernet will be coming back that was the programme that was interrupted when ITV did live reporting during the night for the accident

Diana was during the night and I think they moved to black ties/outfits in the morning Queen is always going to be black outfits, they've probably been planning this for years

BBC have suspended their schedule until 6pm as well would guess she's gone and they are waiting until the family to get there to announce it

maybe speculative as she's normally up at Balmoral at this time but I wonder if she's gone there because she knows there isn't much time left? always said it's her favourite place not interested in the royals too much but I don't mind the Queen, losing Phillip has probably accelerated this downfall for her
