1. I have never particularly used or cared about agent offering players but this one caught my attention: Mind you that I'm managing Wisla Krakow with about 60k transfer budget and max wage of 3k p/w
2. FC United of Manchester Season 1 (2012/2013) - Blue Square North Final position: 2nd Table Progress Transfers Well, it is my second start to this challenge after the first gone to ground with a hdd failure. I knew what to expect from my FC United team - and that was promotion. I feel we had the strongest team in the league, but something just didn't click too many times and we have lost in the league to Solihull Moors. Our good cup run meant we needed to rotate the squad, and the rotation options were much worse than first team players. In the end we didn't win the cup (FA Cup 3rd round loss to Bournemouth, FA Trophy Final loss to Cheltenham), lost the league and lost the play-off, which meant we nee to spend another year in BSN. I was a bit disappointed but the results against stronger teams were encouraging. Star players: -Hakon Kjaeve -Fredrik Zinck ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | Season | Division | Pos | FA Cup | LC | Other Cups | Achievements | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | 2012/13 | BSN | 2nd | 3rd R | N/A | FAT Final | None | Targets for next season: League: Win FA Cup: No expectations, league is the priority FA Trophy: No expectations, league is the priority
3. FC United of Manchester Season 4 (2015/2016) - Coca-Cola League 2 Final position: 1st Table Progress After selling Bart Aalbers last season I felt this one is going to be a struggle. I have managed to secure some players that did perform well above expectations and more importantly the players I already had were much more solid this year. We have started reasonably hovering around the playoff spot for the whole fist half of the season and around middle point we made our move for a top spot. When we got there we never let it slip and we secured the title with 2 games to spare. This was my best season so far, where I felt our performaces deserved the results not the other way round. Our cup runs were mixed, we didn't get a lot of attention in both LC and FA Cup, but we played marvellously in the JPT, winning it eventually against Gillingham. I was very happy of this performance as it looks like the game did not want us to win, when we got 4 injuries in the match preceding the final, and two players were out with international fixtures. To win this with such a weakened side was a major achievement for us. Star player: Steen Schwartz, our brain in the midfield. Maybe he didn't have the highest ratings, but our play looked definately different with him on the field. Will be hard next season without this guy but I couldn't refuse the 1M offer. targets from last season: League: Mid table Position - Surpassed FA Cup: Get a cup run and make some money - Failed, lost with Sheff Wed but the income wasn't too big League Cup: Get a nice away match against some strong Premiership side to boost the budget - Failed, got two home ties, where Aston Villa proved too strong for us JPT: Win a few matches - Surpassed ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | Season | Division | Pos | FA Cup | LC | Other Cups | Achievements | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | 2012/13 | BSN | 1st | 4thQ R | N/A | FAT 3rd R | Promotion, BSN Manager of the year | | 2013/14 | BSP | 5th | 3rd R | N/A | FAT 4th R | Promotion (playoff winner), BSP Manager of the year | | 2014/15 | L2 | 8th | 3rd R | 1/2F | JPT 1st R | None | | 2015/16 | L2 | 1st | 2nd R | 2nd R | JPT winner | Promotion, JPT winners, L2 Manager of the year | Targets for next season: League: Avoid relegation (Media 24th) FA Cup: Get a cup run and make some money League Cup: Get a nice away match against some strong Premiership side to boost the budget JPT: If we're safe in the league maybe defend the trophy
4. FC United of Manchester Season 3 (2014/2015) - npower League 2 Final position: 8th Table Progress We were never threatened to go down, and we couldn't realistically challenge for playoff spot either. Good calm season in the league for us. In the cups it was a different story as we were surprisingly competitive in the League Cup, where we were stopped only by Premiership Burnley in the semi final. This let me earn some good money and we ended the season in the green . Next season will be a tough one, with some players leaving for free as their contract ends, and I didn't feel they're up to the league standard anyway, but most importantly we're losing our star striker Bart Aalbers, who was acting like a teen girl throughout a season. In the beginning he was crying that he want's a new deal, so I try to offer him one, but he demanded over 3.5k a week (my total wage budget is 10k) so I threatened to transfer list him unless he signs a new deal. He says OK, and comes back with demanding 5.5k lol. So I transfer list him and two teams make an offer Charlton with 525k and Burnley with 300k. I accepted the higher and rejected the lower offer, and everything was fine until he accepted the Charlton offer and one week later he was unhappy at me rejecting the Burnley renewed offer of 350k. This caused two other player to be unhappy at my treatment of Aalbers (and me releasing them on free). So we're looking at a team building season next year. Star player: Bart Aalbers, our top goalscorer (2nd in the League 2) targets from last season: League: Stay up - Achieved FA Cup: Get a cup run and make some money - Not really a run, but we did OK League Cup: Get a nice away match against some strong Premiership side to boost the budget - Achieved, with style JPT: I don't really care ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ | Season | Division | Pos | FA Cup | LC | Other Cups | Achievements | -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | 2012/13 | BSN | 1st | 4thQ R | N/A | FAT 3rd R | Promotion, BSN Manager of the Season | | 2013/14 | BSP | 5th | 3rd R | N/A | FAT 4th R | Promotion (playoff winner), BSP Manager of the season | | 2014/15 | L2 | 8th | 3rd R | 1/2F | JPT 1st R | None | Targets for next season: League: Mid table Position (Media: 19th) FA Cup: Get a cup run and make some money League Cup: Get a nice away match against some strong Premiership side to boost the budget JPT: Win a few matches
5. FC United of Manchester Season 2 (2013/2014) - Blue Square Premier Final position: 5th (promoted by Playoffs) Table Progress We were expected to go straight back to the lower division and considering that only luck let us beat AFC Telford last season I was expecting tough campaign to stay in the BSP. I started playing with a 442 from BSN but we were leaking too many goals so I modified a formation a bit to have more support in the back so it's a 451 now. We were lacking in a strikers department anyway so no big deal. Unexpectedly we were playing very well and in some point of the season I started thinking about promotion and winning the league. Unfortunately at this time came the big shocker and our main assist provider Lucas Bertola got injured for a few weeks and we started losing badly. I was going down in the league and only in the last games of the season managed to (barely) hold the playoff spot. Didn't expect anything there as we lost with all teams that were above us, but first we managed to win twice (2-0) against Stockport and then in the final we were able to hold our ground against Luton. I am thinking that it was too fast to go up the leagues and we will be struggling badly in L1. With wage budget almost not changed between the leagues we are standing at the last place in terms of wage budget and not able to sign players of good quality. I'll try to offload some of the better players as they will not sign new contracts anyway and at least maybe I'll get a bigger wage budget to strengthen our squad for a successful promotion campaign in a few years. I have a big problem with fitness and basically with the fixture congestion I'm having to have two starting 11s, one that I use for important cups and league matches and the other for less important matches in the meantime. How can you cope with players playing sat-wed-sat in this league and not getting insanely tired, I've tried reducing the training workload as much as I dared and still after the wed match the condition of most players is around 85% which I do not deem sufficient to get into the starting 11. Star player: Bart Aalbers, but if it wasn't for the injury it would have gone to Lucas Bertola. targets from last season: League: Stay up (Media prediction 24th) - Achieved with style, managing to get promoted FA Cup: Win something - Achieved, our succesful campaign came to abrupt end in a match vs Leeds FA Trophy: 4th round - Achieved, but I feel slightly disappointed as I feel we could have maybe won the competition ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | Season | Division | Pos | FA Cup | Other Cups | Achievements | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | 2012/13 | BSN | 1st | 4thQ R | FAT 3rd R | Promotion, BSN Manager of the Season | | 2013/14 | BSP | 5th | 2nd R | FAT semis | Promotion (playoff winner), BSP Manager of the season | Targets for next season: League: Stay up (Media prediction 24th, my prediction 20th) FA Cup: Get a cup run and make some money League Cup: Get a nice away match against some strong Premiership side to boost the budget JPT: I don't really care
6. FC United of Manchester Season 1 (2012/2013) - Blue Square North Table Progress Transfers I wanted to start slow, building a base for a club that can get promoted and stay up. I signed a lot of players because from experience in the lowe leagues it's better to have a bigger squad of weaker players with just a few 'stars' and rotate than lot of tired but better players. We started unexpectedly good and after a string of wins I started to think it's gonna be too easy. But then came the slump and we started to be hit and miss. We were never really threatened throughout the season to go below the playoff spot but at this time my appetite was higher and I wanted automatic promotion. Luckily for me our form went up in the final stages of the league and we managed to beat AFC Telford on away goals for automatic promotion. Tough luck for them, as they were a better team than us, and ultimately the have also lost the playoff. In FA cup it was a dramatic performance with us losing to Northwich and the FA Trophy was only little better because we survived till 3rd round. None of the players was worth mentioning, needless to say that my best player was already in the squad - Matty Wolfenden was my best striker and player throughout a season, unfortunately he decided to continue his career elsewhere and didn't sign new contract. ------------------------------------------------------------------ | Season | Division | Pos | FA Cup | Other Cups | Achievements | -----------------------------------------------------------------| | 2012/13 | BSN | 1st | 4thQ R | FAT 3rd R | Promotion | Targets for next season: League: Stay up (Media prediction 24th) FA Cup: Win something FA Trophy: 4th round
7. Starting the challenge now Just retired my Holiday Man and taken charge of FC United. Hopefully we can make us bigger than the original counterpart in some years. Initial screenshot: http://i40.tinypic.com/5lb4fr.png And I hope my time will let me follow with (un)successful updates.
8. Instead of doing an update I am making a closure. Save unfortunately went dead in December, and I cannot force myself to using a backup from the beginning of the season. Tough luck. Anyway, I would like to ask moderator to close this thread as it will not be updated further.
9. Season 2027/28 Almost a clean sweep ;-) If it wasn't for Chelsea (in FA Cup semi final) we could have won everything this season. It wasn't a piece of cake though and both Chelsea and Manchester City could have won the Premieship. It was all more or less decided in direct matches between interested parties and our win against Man City (1-0) and draw away with Chelsea was enough to secure the title. It was decided on the last day but we won, Man City lost and in result ended 3rd. I was really disapponted with the performance of my defense and decided to bring another good central defender and maybe both full backs next season, but I'm still seaching for suitable (and affordable) targets. League Cup was won against Tottenham after penalty shootout with us missing 3 out of 6 and them 4, tough luck. I was really suprised in the Champions Cup, while the easy progress against Levski was to be expected, trashing of both Valencia and Inter (at home at least) wasn't. Thanks to that I had pretty uneventful road to the final, where we have managed to beat Atletico Madrid after an even game (2-1). Next season objective is to win everything Season 2027/28 summary: ------------------------------------ Record | Detail ------------------------------------- Top Goalscorer | 65 - Bobby Liversedge Most Assists | 36 - Peter Pepper Highest Average Rating | 7.81 - Peter Pepper Most Man of Match | 20 - Bobby Liversedge Fans Player of the Year | Peter Pepper Scotland Update Only two frendlies played to date, and I am not very happy with them. First one, against Austria (they have also offered me a job but I have chosen Scotland) went pretty well until I started experimenting and we went from 2-0 to a draw. In the second one against Cyprus, I went all for checking out available resources and we have only managed to win 2-1. The problem with our squad is while we have some decent players they will definately not make it to the next World Cup, so I have to start building from scratch and hope I do not get sacked in the process.
10. I guess my team just like to give me a heart attack. After League Cup first leg I was 4-1 behind and had little hope of progressing, considering Chelsea is our main rival now. We went all out attack anyway and that's what happened: Feels good, but I wouldn't want to be my cardiologist now ;-)
11. Season 2027/28 - Mid season update I really wanted to build up on last year's success and claim the league again. I expected Chelsea to provide stern opposition though. In preseason we have made our biggest signing so far bringing Gary Barrow, a solid defensive midfielder from Manchester United for 20M. I was really vulnerable on this position and wanted some space for my creative midfielder. After some frendlies we had our first of many expected confrontations with Chelsea in Community Shield. We have managed to win, even though only on penalties after 1-1 draw in regular time. In the league my defense was not as solid as expected and to make matters worse not only Chelsea managed to keep up the pace - we both had to chase Manchester City all the time. As the new years starts we are 2nd, tied on points with Chelsea and 4 behind Man City. Other teams are rather out of the championship fight so at worst we can finish 3rd. In Champions League we have again been drawn a tough group with Barcelona and Porto, LASK from Austria was a 4th team but was unlikely to make impact. The competition was very even with teams from Spain and Portugal with all teams finishing with the same amount of points and the same goal difference in direct matches. We have managed to win the group thanks to away goals in Barcelona and more goals scored against Porto (that is if I understood the rules right). Barcelona lost to Porto also on away goals so finished 3rd. The amazing thing was that we scored the 3rd goal against Barca in 92nd minute while playing in 10 men. One of the best moments in my whole FM playing career, to go all out attack on Barcelona with a man down and succeed is a fantastic feeling. We have drawn Levski Sofia in the next round so it sould be pretty easy, but I was saying the same last year about Shakhtar and we lost. One difference is we are still in the League Cup - probably only because we did not draw Everton but we still have a chance to meet them in the final - that is if we beat Chelsea and them Tottenham. In FA Cup it's still pretty slow and we were meeting rather weak teams, so it's still open on the outcome. International Career - I have been offered a position as a manager of Scotland that I have gladly accepted. They have not made it to Euro Champs finals so next year is all friendlies and building squad that will campaign for World Cup 2030.
12. Season 26/27 Champions at last! Although it might look easy the title was more of Chelsea losing it than us winning. Our mid-season slump was not so huge as last year but still took the Champions Cup as a casualty in the hands of Shakhtar. More worrying was the end of season tiredness and only thanks to a congestion of games by Chelsea they did not overtake us. There were a lot of bright moments too. Bobby Liversedge league top goalscorer with 41 goals was a real beast, unstoppable throughout the season and Petter Pepper ripped the opposition on the left wing creating a lot of goals and scoring when it mattered most. Chelsea managed to take revenge on us in FA Cup final, beating us 2-1. A good season fur Leigh and I hope for total domination in years to come. I also hope to start some international management in this season when opportunity arise. Season 2026/27 summary: ------------------------------------ Record | Detail ------------------------------------- Top Goalscorer | 51 - Bobby Liversedge Most Assists | 24 - Peter Pepper Highest Average Rating | 7.85 - Peter Pepper Most Man of Match | 14 - Bobby Liversedge Fans Player of the Year | Peter Pepper
13. Season 26/27 - Mid season update Before the season I was expected to finish midtable by the board, the media wanted us to finish 7th but after a good last season I really wanted to mount a serious championship challenge. I also wanted to have a good run in Champions Cup in order to build up some resources for summer transfer offensive. We started the league on high with 5-1 trashing of Blackburn at home, but then came some worrying results - 0-0 with Coventry and 0-1 at the hands of Aston Villa. Fortunately we managed to turn things around, especially morale building were wins against Manchester City (3-0) and reigning league champions Chelsea (3-2). At the end of the year we are sitting on the top of the table with a nice lead, but not to be overly optimistic I was in a similar position last year. I hope I will not succumb to losses this year as the team is maturing with every game. With League Cup out of the way after losing to Everton (again) it should prove to be easier task. In the Champions Cup we have been drawn a very tough group with Real Madrid, Olympique Lyon and Borussia Dortmund. After the draw I just wanted respectable results and they did come. What I did not expect was thay will be enough not only to secure the progress but to win the group. I think that this group had the most unexpected result with both OL and Real out of the Champions Cup in early stage. As our next opposition is Shakhtar I expect us to progress and to see how the journey develops. In the league Bobby Liversedge is on fire with already 21 goals to his name. He was recognized this year and received the World Player of the Year Award, European Footballer of the Year and Striker of the Year, while his colleague Peter Pepper was awarded with a World Footballer of the Year Award. Considering their young age the future is bright and hopefully I will be able to keep them in Leigh Ath side. I would especially like to keep Pepper as he is a product of our youth development system. It may be a 'little' hard as I have already turned down 75M offer for Pepper from Manchester City setting a price tag at 120M + 50% - meaning he's not for sale, but I'm not sure my board would turn down the offer in this region if it came. Below is a little teaser of their favorite moves: Bobby Liversedge: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VAH7L7qRwDY Peter Pepper: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HIeoIefojsg
14. Season 25/26 I brought Martin Stewart a Scottish central defender from Rangers who looked like a decent prospect. From the beginning we were looking like a challenger to a title in spite of preseason expectations of relegation battle. We we even leading the league in some stages. We weren't destined for league glory yet as we couldn't keep up with Chelsea and had to focus on keeping the Champions League spot. It was a tight fight with both Manchester teams till the last day. We managed to overtake Man Utd with better goal difference and City last match loss meant we finished league in 3rd place. Best performances were given by Bobby Liverserge, league's top goalscorer with 32 goals and Peter Pepper a left winger, who is a product of our own youth system. Both had their debuts in national side too with Pepper even making it for the World Cup. I had been looking throughout the year for some players as I felt we could strengthen our squad in a few places, especially defense, but could not find anyone fulfilling my criteria (<21, <3M, has real potential to be better than current players). Maybe if I don't win nothing next year I will convince myself to spending some real money and relax my age rule. In League Cup i went off in quarter final against Everton and in FA Cup in 5th round. http://img257.imageshack.us/img257/3108/league2526.jpg Season 2025/26 summary: ------------------------------------ Record | Detail ------------------------------------- Top Goalscorer | 43 - Bobby Liversedge Most Assists | 18 - Digao Highest Average Rating | 7.65 - Bobby Liversedge Most Man of Match | 13 - Bobby Liversedge Fans Player of the Year | Bobby Liversedge
15. Brief story through the leagues. Season 09/10 The quality of my players was abysmal, but luckily so was that of my opposition. No transfers at all – for one I wanted to stay ‘local’ and apart from that nobody even remotely interesting would sign. Luckily I unleashed my tactical genius (‘kick the ball in the direction of the tallest striker’) and we demolished our rivals without remorse. Both league and cup (Gilgryst Cup to be precise). http://img139.imageshack.us/img139/8739/league0910.jpg I thought that the promotion final will be a walk in the park, but as it happened we won promotion after somewhat lucky extra time win over mighty Parson Dove. Season 2009/10 summary: ------------------------------------ Record | Detail ------------------------------------- Top Goalscorer | 14 - Johny Jones Most Assists | 11 - Johny Jones Highest Average Rating | n/a Most Man of Match | 6 - Colin Sargent Fans Player of the Year | n/a Season 10/11 Season started with 90% of my senior squad leaving to play in higher leagues. I was left with youngsters but fortunately some – especially left winger and tall striker looked exceptionally good, for this level that is. And the quality of the league was not so different to what I had to face the previous year. Considering that, I left my magic tactic at peace and watched the outcome. League was won rather comfortably, with the lion share of my goals between the left winger and tall striker. Cups were a formality - opposition seemed to be afraid of us so we won everything with some resistance only in later rounds. http://img203.imageshack.us/img203/2570/league1011.jpg Season 2010/11 summary: ------------------------------------ Record | Detail ------------------------------------- Top Goalscorer | 50 - Tom Constantine Most Assists | 24 - Sam Spring Highest Average Rating | 7.85 - Mark Gilbert Most Man of Match | 17 - Mark Gilbert Fans Player of the Year | Mark Gilbert Season 11/12 No transfers again (this was becoming a habit) this season. As the quality of the opposition seemed to be a little better I decided bravely to change our crude tactics to something more finesse. After considering all the options before me I opted for adding another option in attack so my tactics became ‘kick the ball in the direction of the tallest striker and should he not get it our fast one certainly will’. Results were better than expected, far better. Most comfortable league win so far moreover win in all the cups I participated in. Although at first I wanted to believe it was due to my tactics later I started to believe it was more to do with squad gelling. My first team was virtually the same as last year not counting 3 or 4 youngsters that looked promising enough to give them a go. http://img412.imageshack.us/img412/921/league1112.jpg Season 2011/12 summary: ------------------------------------ Record | Detail ------------------------------------- Top Goalscorer | 57 - Tom Constantine Most Assists | 33 - Sam Spring Highest Average Rating | 7.80 - Mark Gilbert Most Man of Match | 20 - Mark Gilbert Fans Player of the Year | Mark Gilbert Season 12/13 You’ve guessed it right, no transfers this season. No tactics changes either. One very good looking prospect DC that went straight into starting XI really did the job and a neglected a little last season right winger bloomed into a full scale footballer. No contest in the league (it was starting to get boring) so I started holidaying throughout the league and playing only cup matches. Worth mentioning is a nice run in FA cup where we were stopped only after a loss against Preston. http://img708.imageshack.us/img708/9005/league1213.jpg Season 2012/13 summary: ------------------------------------ Record | Detail ------------------------------------- Top Goalscorer | 64 - Tom Constantine Most Assists | 26 - Steve O'Neill Highest Average Rating | 7.68 - Mark Gilbert Most Man of Match | 20 - Mark Gilbert Fans Player of the Year | Tom Constantine Season 13/14 For a change no transfers again, but one thing did change – we gained semi-pro status as a club. This is a milestone in our club history ;-) Changes from last season squad were cosmetic: new GK and left defender from our youth system (I tend to think that calling it a system was a major overstatement). This time opposition fought back, only a little though. FA cup run went to abrupt end after facing Chelsea, luckily for me in a reserve trim so it ended in respectable 0-6. http://img22.imageshack.us/img22/4482/league1314.jpg Season 2013/14 summary: ------------------------------------ Record | Detail ------------------------------------- Top Goalscorer | 51 - Tom Constantine Most Assists | 27 - Sam Spring Highest Average Rating | 7.66 - Mark Gilbert Most Man of Match | 17 - Mark Gilbert Fans Player of the Year | Mark Gilbert Season 14/15 Blue Square for the first time for our club, and the opposition was fierce. Our squad had a new addition – young fast striker. We were fighting till the end with Barrow and Lowestoft for promotion. Lucky for us they had a not-so-good end in the league while we won everything in the final days. All in all it’s Blue Square Premier for us next season. Considering our good form throughout the leagues I really think that squad gelling is overly important. On pure quality my squad was somewhere in the middle of the table but we could fight like equals (at least at home even with Championship opposition). FA cup ended after a visit in Southampton. http://img42.imageshack.us/img42/1850/league1415.jpg Season 2014/15 summary: ------------------------------------ Record | Detail ------------------------------------- Top Goalscorer | 44 - Tom Constantine Most Assists | 22 - Chris Flint Highest Average Rating | 7.51 - Chris Flint Most Man of Match | 12 - Tom Constantine Fans Player of the Year | Chris Flint Season 15/16 While I have been worried about gaining promotions too quickly, we suddenly found ourselves at the top of the table with a comfortable lead. Our promotion rivals kept losing with strange teams, so in January the promotion was a foregone conclusion. In FA cup we went out after drawing Sheff Utd. One of the easiest seasons so far, and league football next year. http://img444.imageshack.us/img444/8720/league1516.jpg Season 2015/16 summary: ------------------------------------ Record | Detail ------------------------------------- Top Goalscorer | 38 - Tom Constantine Most Assists | 17 - Tom Constantine Highest Average Rating | 7.62 - Chris Flint Most Man of Match | 12 - Chris Flint Fans Player of the Year | Chris Flint Season 16/17 League 2 was much harder as expected. I had to exchange my right back because my regular one decided Leigh is not big enough for him and did not agree to a new contract. Replacement was decent enough. It was a 6-way battle in the beginning but we were constantly near the top. In the final days of the league it went down to ‘only’ four teams. On the last league fixture we needed a win and a draw from York which they duly delivered. So once again the mighty Leigh plows upwards in the ladder. In League Cup it ended after 2nd round, in JPT in 2nd round and FA Cup in 5th at the hands of Sheffield again, only this time Wed not Utd. Our board decided to build a new stadium of 17k seats woo-hoo. We had a respectable 10k stadium from the beginning but were filling it for the last 2 years and made good money selling it so no big change in finances. http://img444.imageshack.us/img444/797/league1617.jpg Season 2016/17 summary: ------------------------------------ Record | Detail ------------------------------------- Top Goalscorer | 32 - Martin Colgan Most Assists | 13 - Richard Hall Highest Average Rating | 7.40 - Mark Gilbert Most Man of Match | 8 - Chris Flint Fans Player of the Year | Mark Gilbert Season 17/18 Preston was out of reach from the beginning, and we had an unusually for us quiet start in the league. We managed a playoff position though which we eventually won. It became apparent that while our defense was ok on this level the attack clearly struggled with a better opposition. I decided that for Championship I will have to once again use my tactical genius to improve this element. LC ended in first round, JPT as well. In FA Cup it was a bit better with a 7th round loss against Everton. Again we were given an expansion only this time bigger over 10k seats put us nicely in the red and with a substantial loan to pay each month, this time I was not so happy. http://img202.imageshack.us/img202/4769/league1718.jpg Season 2017/18 summary: ------------------------------------ Record | Detail ------------------------------------- Top Goalscorer | 32 - Martin Colgan Most Assists | 16 - Brian Flynn Highest Average Rating | 7.34 - Mark Gilbert Most Man of Match | 7 - Mark Gilbert Fans Player of the Year | Mark Gilbert Season 18/19 Long story short – our struggling tall striker went away after not extending his contract so I decided to give a go a young one (Derek Stanislaus) that looked as an extremely good prospect. Having two fast men up front I had to revise the style of play completely and the result was only satisfactory – we did stay up. We scored least amount of goals in the league and only due to fantastic defensive record we were able to pick up points. More changes were needed if we were to progress, this was a huge dent in my tactical self esteem. LC 2nd round, FA Cup 7th so no progress in this department either. Only did we finish last year’s expansion board announced a new one, completely funded with a loan. Next year we will have 13k seats more. http://img341.imageshack.us/img341/7344/league1819.jpg Season 2018/19 summary: ------------------------------------ Record | Detail ------------------------------------- Top Goalscorer | 17 - Derek Stanislaus Most Assists | 8 - Richard Hall Highest Average Rating | 7.14 - Brian Flynn Most Man of Match | 5 - Mark Gilbert Fans Player of the Year | Brian Flynn Season 19/20 No new prospects came to us, so I decided to stick with what I have and further tweaking of tactics. I managed not to break the defense, and the attack looked a bit better than last year. Thanks to winning the important matches 1-0 we hanged onto the playoff spot. After two tight matches against Hull we had only Leeds between us and heaven. We were pinned down throughout the whole match but managed to score 3 on the counter. They responded with only one and Leigh was in the Premiership! LC 4th round after a visit in Manchester City, FA Cup 7th. Luckily no expansion this season as we were running very low on resources. http://img39.imageshack.us/img39/869/league1920.jpg Season 2019/20 summary: ------------------------------------ Record | Detail ------------------------------------- Top Goalscorer | 30 - Derek Stanislaus Most Assists | 14 - Martin Colgan Highest Average Rating | 7.25 - Mark Gilbert Most Man of Match | 10 - Mark Gilbert Fans Player of the Year | Mark Gilbert Season 20/21 With only one aim (‘avoid relegation’) we started our season with defensive approach. We scarcely scored but didn’t let in a lot either. In the end we managed to stay in top flight with four points to spare. LC 3rd round, FA Cup 5th, league had maximum priority this season. Unfortunately for me, our prospect striker, having scored 13 goals this season decided to leave for Germany. To make matters worse I forgot to offer him a contract so he went for free. Board announced further expansion of our ground and I was beginning to wonder if the stadium was made of rubber. http://img190.imageshack.us/img190/541/league2021.jpg Season 2020/21 summary: ------------------------------------ Record | Detail ------------------------------------- Top Goalscorer | 13 - Derek Stanislaus Most Assists | 6 - Martin Colgan Highest Average Rating | 7.03 - Mark Gilbert Most Man of Match | 5 - Mark Gilbert Fans Player of the Year | Mark Gilbert Season 21/22 Our first transfer of all time happened this season, as none of the young prospects looked good enough to replace Stanislaus so I brought Les Mills. Moreover I decided that his partner was not up to scratch and opted for a tall-fast partnership again bringing one of our own young prospects to first XI. What I was really excited was a winger (Peter Pepper) who I thought could be a real star. After a good start we slumped into mediocrity. We couldn’t repeat our last year feat of scoring when it mattered and managed to lose the relegation battle with Bristol City by one goal. I wasn’t very depressed though as our squad was certainly not ready for Premier League anyway. I was hoping for bouncing back immediately after strengthening the squad. LC 3rd round, FA Cup 5th again all strength was put into the league. The board despite the relegation decided that 66k stadium is what Leigh needs to progress. Thanks for TV money in Prem though I wasn’t in a bad financial shape. http://img189.imageshack.us/img189/1449/league2122.jpg Season 2021/22 summary: ------------------------------------ Record | Detail ------------------------------------- Top Goalscorer | 13 - Derek Stanislaus Most Assists | 6 - Mark Gilbert Highest Average Rating | 7.09 - Mark Gilbert Most Man of Match | 3 - Mark Gilbert Fans Player of the Year | Mark Gilbert Season 22/23 After again not seeing any prospect in my youth squad and my first XI getting a bit on (some of them were playing for me as low as BSP) I have decided to go on a shopping spree. I decided to buy no less than 8 players whom I scouted for the whole last season. Because I was not happy with Les Mills performance, and the tall partner for him was even worse the attacking force was the priority. I bought Digao from Fluminense for 3M, looking as excellent prospect to be a fast striker, Bobby Liversedge from Glenavon for 55k, a towering forward, Petur Gudmundsson from FH (Iceland) for 170k a right winger. Also I bought Sergiy Dudnyk from Dnipro who was to lead my midfield for 2.8M. Apart from them some transfers in defensive formations but not worth mentioning. Unfortunately for me, a lot of changes meant my gelled squad went through the drain. Despite a magnificent performance by Bobby Liversedge scoring 27 goals in the league we managed only a playoff place. To make matters worse we lost in a playoff final against Bolton and were sentenced to another season in Championship. Also it seems that the reality at last caught up with us, as the attendances went from filling the 55k stadium to low 30k now. Tough luck for the board ;-) The highlight of the season was my FA Cup run, where we were stopped only by Man City in the semis. LC ended less respectable in 4th round by the hands of Cardiff. http://img375.imageshack.us/img375/3530/league2223.jpg Season 2022/23 summary: ------------------------------------ Record | Detail ------------------------------------- Top Goalscorer | 33 - Bobby Liversedge Most Assists | 10 - Brian Flynn Highest Average Rating | 7.27 - Bobby Liversedge Most Man of Match | 9 - Mark Gilbert Fans Player of the Year | Peter Pepper Season 23/24 In the preseason I brought an Italian left back Bandini for 3M from Atalanta and a backup for my tall striker from Etoile du Sahel – Atef Tounsi for 3.5M (my biggest transfer so far). We weren’t playing bad in the league but something just didn’t click. My first choice tall striker forgot how to score and to make matters worse missed half of the season to injury. Luckily Digao started to pay off with 22 goals. All in all I missed the playoff spot by one point and only thanks to a brilliant cup run I didn’t quit. Cups this season started not very well, LC 1st round in extra time, 2nd thanks to penalties and out in 3rd by the hands of Man Utd. The FA Cup was a different story though. I went through easily getting drawn against either mediocre opposition or when they hit a crisis. I went up to the final where I was to meet Chelsea, already a Champion then. I braced myself and after 104 minutes of defense we unleashed a counter attack which proved to be enough. They were trying everything but we hanged onto it and there it was European football for Leigh. http://img132.imageshack.us/img132/2707/league2324.jpg Season 2023/24 summary: ------------------------------------ Record | Detail ------------------------------------- Top Goalscorer | 27 - Digao Most Assists | 16 - Les Mills Highest Average Rating | 7.41 - Peter Pepper Most Man of Match | 6 - Damien McGrath Fans Player of the Year | Peter Pepper Season 24/25 I brought only a backup winger this time from Cliftonville for 170k. I had a decent squad, and was happy with depth so I wanted to be back in Premieship and not to make a fool of myself in EURO Cup. The season started with a match against Bloxwich United, who seemingly followed our steps through the leagues. Funny thing was, they were the favorites to win the Championship in spite of having players of maximum League 1 quality. This match we lost and on went the Community Shield with Chelsea wanting revenge on us. It was a really strange match, which ended 3-3 and we were lucky in penalties. Qualification to EURO Cup group stage was easy but we were given a tough group with Bayern, Villarreal and OM. We lost first two games, and I started to revise my European plans – instead of glory I wanted a point, at least one. We managed to draw both our games with OM, then somehow win at home against Bayern and magically before last round of games, we found ourselves in a position where if Bayern won against OM and we won against Villarreal (away) we would progress. Well it went our way, with a lot of help from either the referee or Villarreal players (maybe both) who were protesting so furiously after a red card in 14th min, that they earned another one. We could not miss the opportunity and won with a fantastic 2-1 against 9 men. The only problem for me was a growing backlog of Championship games due to my European escapade. But I didn’t really care as we were playing great sitting near the top sometimes with 8 games in hand ;-) The EURO Cup ended in the semis. After first disposing of Juventus (h:0-1, a:3-0), winning on away goals with Deportivo (h:0-0, a:1-1), Benfica (h:2-2, a:4-1) we got Man Utd and lost on away goals (a:1-2, h:3-2). In the end we won the league comfortably, domestic cups were not worth mentioning – not enough squad depth to play on so many fronts. I was very happy and started thinking of conquering the Premiership. http://img341.imageshack.us/img341/3319/league2425.jpg Season 2024/25 summary: ------------------------------------ Record | Detail ------------------------------------- Top Goalscorer | 47 - Digao Most Assists | 28 - Sergiy Dudnyk Highest Average Rating | 7.61 - Bobby Liversedge Most Man of Match | 18 - Bobby Liversedge Fans Player of the Year | Bobby Liversedge
