  1. Hey guys, is anyone on this thread still playing the LLM way?

My laptop died a few months ago so haven't played in a while, but finally got a new one last week.

I couldn't decide where to start my journey, so I wandered over to the LLAMAs website and asked the trusted old grey llama to point me in the right direction.

To all Warrington fans, in advance I'm deeply sorry for what's to come..........

  2. Hey all, am I ok to post my manager failings and tales of woe here?

Started the game on the day of release, Sunday League rep, no badges and playing the LLM way (haven't played any other way for years)

Got two job interviews and subsequent job offers from the off with both Llandidloes and Trefelin BGC.

I decided to take the former as they had a (very) slightly bigger wage budget, were offering me about 30 quid a week more and is closer to my house (yes these things I do consider at this level)

Expectations were low, attempt to battle relegation, with which it looked very possible being 7 points clear of the drop zone with 6 games to go. A 5 game winless streak though saw us in the bottom 3 on goal difference going in to the last day. We lost that game, we were relegated and I was of course sacked.

After my dismissal I went on holiday for a month having interviews with Oxford City and Kings Lynn but the only club willing to take me on were Hollywell Town, who had just finished midtable in the same league I've just been relegated from.

    Send them prayers.........

  3. Got fed up of my Curzon Ashton save. Feel like I’ve done the English leagues to death over the years now it’s time for something new. I need to step right out of my comfort zone for a new challenge.

I made an appointment with the grey Llama and he has sent me to Hungary to inflict my managerial incapabilities on a club called Csakvar.

As my laptop is pretty old now I’ve only set up the surrounding countries and a small database, but I’ve haven’t been this intrigued by a save for a long time. New nations and clubs to explore.

Wish me, and especially them, luck.

  4. Just over half way through the first season with Curzon Ashton (playing the LLM way - the only way I know)

We’re predictably awful currently sitting 4th bottom.

The one thing I don’t like about this years version is the amount of press conferences in the lower leagues. They only used to be every now and again in the Vanarama league, but now they’re every game. I know it’s probably hard to be able to change them too much, but they’re still very tedious. My only gripe really.

I'm about to start randomly as Beltinci FC in Slovenia playing purely LLM too.

I've got no particular goals other than to experience the ups and downs that a real manager would and perhaps experience a few nations that i've never managed in before.

Of course i've extensively done a Google Street-view walkabout first to acclimatise and looked up a few local nightspots to get myself in the mood.  I've also checked for suitable accommodation based on my wages.

So relieved it’s not just me that does the Street View walk around the stadium 😂

There must be a simpler way to do set pieces, it takes literally hours.

Plus I don't know what it's on about with "16 combinations".

I've got 40 odd routines saved lol

I’ve always left the set pieces on default and hoped for the best, and to be honest it’s never really done me that badly.

I just haven’t got the patience to sit and arrange them all individually.

  7. Currently managing Chippenham Town in the Vanarama South. Started Sunday League rep/no badges. 1st season I finished a creditable 7th before getting hammered 6-2 in the playoffs. Now about halfway through the 2nd season I'm 9th in the league and getting job interview offers with League 1 clubs (including Sunderland), a Championship club and have now actually been offered the job to manage Shrewsbury Town.

Although we're doing better than expected, we're hardly pulling up any trees. I have managed to get my badges up to Continental C during my time and was wondering if that was having a bearing this year? Because I remember in previous versions it was a hell of a lot harder to climb the ladder from Sunday League rep.

    Anyone else had this issue?

  8. Hey all,

I've been playing LLM now for around 13-14 years but only ever did it in the British Isles.

This year I fancied a change for what will probably be my last save on this version by doing a 'Tour of the Americas' LLM.

I've loaded up all the Northern and South American leagues (boxed version no editor) and started as usual with sunday league rep and no badges and managed to land the job at Cobreloa in the Chilean B divsion. I'm one season in and have to say I haven't had this much fun on FM for a long time. It's great managing in league where you have zero knowledge of the clubs or the players and having to work with a different set of rules. I've even started following their results in real life.

If anyone is stuck in a bit of rut with their usual save, I fully recommend a save like this. It's real challenge and a proper step out of the comfort zone, but throughly enjoyable.

  9. So I took over as manager of Wigan who start the game in administration. This obviously means you can't sign any players or staff so there is nothing in the searches.

In my save though the club has just been took over but there is still zero staff in the staff search. Does anyone know if this resolves itself?

  10. So, decided to up sticks to do an LLM tour of the Americas. As myself, Sunday League experience with no badges.

1st club stupid enough to give me a job?  Villa Teresa of Uruguay. Trouble is because I started the game in Argentina, we haven't got a game for 6 months! I'm presuming this is because of the pandemic.

Wish me (or rather them) luck.

  11. I've decided to binoff my British & Ireland LLM. I've been playing this game for years and never really strayed away from the homeland.

I'm thinking of biting the bullet and flying off to South America to try an LLM there (maybe add the North American countries too), football there has always fascinated me. Anyone tried it?

  12. Quick question - what starting rep do you have when starting a save?

I've noticed the bottom divisions of most countries have a lot higher than sunday league rep for their recommended experience unlike in the UK where it's generally Sunday League/National A or B badge.

Just wondering if others went with the recommended or go with the lowest to make it a little tougher?

Hey all, a little update on my save.

You may recall I left Llanelli Town for Bath City half way through the 22/23 season as it was closer to home (and more wonga).

I managed to keep them up fairly comfortably in the end, finishing 19th (the bottom 4 were woeful and there was about a 15 point gap between them and safety). So 23/24 starts with expectations of reaching the playoffs which looked good to be happening until January time until I was offered the job at Tranmere Rovers (now in the National League). I thought I'd take it as it's a move into full time football, but not until the end of the season as I wanted to stay loyal to my contract at Bath, and try and see the job through.

Unfortunately the second half of the season didn't go so well and we ended up finishing 13th before I scarpered off to Merseyside. I'm now in the close season with Tranmere feeling like I've winged it a bit after a disappointing end to my Bath career.

    Should I feel bad?

Evening all, a little further update on my progress,

1st season at Tranmere was a major shock (to me) as we won the National League title and a season long tussle at the top with York City. We both had dodgy ends to the season but we just managed to limp our way there. Was hoping for a double but lost to Torquay in the FA Trophy semis.

Season 25/26 - After an awful start to our League 2 season where it took us 9 games to get a win we managed to finish 17th in the end which was slightly above expectations.

Another question of a realism coming up though - I've just been offered the job at Championship side Stoke, which seems like a massive jump to where I've been previously but I've took it in case a job of this size doesn't come round again. Not sure if this would happen in real life but it seems like an incredible challenge.
