So, I bring in Mousa Dembele after selling a couple of players to help my Crystal Palace team.

We do better than expected, finishing 6th.  Dembele is the Leagues leading goal scorer, and wins a slew of awards.

Shine isn't off the trophy yet, and he comes in and says "I want to go to Bayern."

The Benteke comes in and says he wants to go to PSG, Zaha (my best AM) wants to go to Barcelona, and Shako (my best Dback) wants to go to Newcastle(?).  And Cabaye wants to be sold too.

Cabaye, Zaha, and Shako are at the top of my DYnamics pyramid.  If I keep them, I lose the locker room.  If I sell them, I lose the locker room.  I turned down the first offer for Dembele (36M, really Bayern?), and no less than half the team came to me asking "WTF?"

Really?  After that season we just had your mad I Didn't sell him?

    WTF?

    Really.

They could also be thinking "If the gaffer blocks Dembele leaving, then he might not let me make a big money move away."

Thinking of binning FM18 for now.  So many issues.

There is no point pretending that they don't exist and in the past I have been as frustrated as you are. It's all about perception though. Instead of blaming the game for everything, (even the things that are broken), I blame myself, the Chairman or the players and try to find a workaround as if the save was real.

It allows me to get past some of the things that used to drive me mad. Yes there are things that actually break a game and stop it from working, but everything else is just an obstacle to overcome.

Please don't think I'm telling you that all is fine by the way. (I'm not). I'm just suggesting that looking at it differently might help you.

Looks like I can wait for a sale (or final patch). :D

(I really do want this version. The scouting and contract changes alone look like it will be worth getting)

So, with the FM18 beta just around the corner, what should we expect from you guys?

I've almost decided to go back to the roots with my save this year, starting unemployed in Iceland and waiting for the story to unfold. The original idea was to do the same in San Marino, but I'm way too excited for the game to wait for the full release and the editor files. :D

I passed on the "contract extension" discount because the "Dynamics" video had me concerned about the likelihood of bugs. But the changes to scouting and tactics look really good. I never got into FM 17 (think I have only 30-some hours on record) but I'm actually kind of excited about this one.

I'll probably still wait until it goes on sale at some point, by which time any bugs likely will have been sorted out. Probably do the usual unemployed/no badges/no rep/journeyman save. Might change up the leagues I load though; usually the squad restrictions some countries have (like "must have two U23 players in the first XI") would put me off until I realized I usually look for those players on free transfer anyway. Might just start with the English-speaking and Spanish-speaking nations because FM gives you fluency in both as an American. :brock:

I'm getting old though, so I may need to create a manager instead of just plugging myself into the game. :D

I've never watched one, purely because I find them uninteresting.

However, as long as they are tagged as such, I don't mind them being posted.

    This.

I think the nice thing about this forum is it's generally allowed people to post in their own way. Whether that be only after their season concludes, or game-by-game. So if someone wants to post their career updates in video form, I think that's fine. I personally don't watch them, but that's because I prefer to read and detest the "pivot to video" RL sports media outlets are trying to do now.

I agree with db though that it shouldn't just be spamming videos to the forum (or driving traffic to your vlog, but I kinda feel the same way if someone were posting links from here to an offline blog where they write up their career). There should be some kind of interaction, even if it's a just a quick "FFS, we just blew a 2-goal lead in stoppage time. :D "

At 4:30, the scout report contains two negative elements of the player; that he's only made 19 interceptions and only won 23 headers.

Why are these in absolutes and not averages per match? The total amount isn't really that important, is it? If another player has made 22 interceptions but also played 5 matches more - those 19 interceptions of the first player would actually be the better stat.

I'd also like a "league average" somewhere to be able to make comparisons.

OK, this MC in my squad averages 3.7 interceptions. How does that compare to the league average? Is he better than or worse than average? If there's a way to find that, I've never been able to do so.

I hope that to some extent one of the senarios for this dynamics is some players aren’t part of a social circle but that this isn’t negative and that they just do their job. I can work with my colleagues to a very high level without having to want to be their friends and socialise

Similarly you shouldn’t need to have a team be best mates to play well - some of the best teams have been on the edge of hating each other. The Dutch spring to mind.

Imagine if dynamics leads to a Dyer-Bowyer situation though. :D

hopefully they'll have sorted out the number of youth prospects who demand first team football or you'll be undone by a coup of u21 players and disaffected back up goalkeepers.

Why do I get the feeling this is going to be massively overpowered initially and have to be scaled back as clubs implode over player revolts.

Sorry to sound miserable, but this seems like another feature that brings you little joy for getting it right but causes huge problems if you get it wrong.

I'm not a psychotherapist, just let me buy players because their stats are good and fit my style of play.

Hopefully this isn't too overbearing and hasn't had too much time spent on its development to the detriment of the ME.

Ambivalent about this new feature as I have been concerned for a few versions now that player interaction has been overplayed and far too much manager time is taken up with questionable demands from players.  Will be interesting to see if this improves the current module or not

Same. I've been holding off on the "contract extension" pre-release purchase until some more details came out, and this has actually made me think I'll wait a few months until it's working as intended.

American football (seriously why they call that football when the only players that actually kick the ball are the less relevant on the team...)

Because it originated when two teams couldn't agree on whether to play with FA rules or rugby rules, so they agreed to a hybrid. And it took off from there (there's actually still a "free kick" rule in the NFL rulebook). :)

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1869_college_football_season

There's also Canadian football, which is similar to American football but on a longer field and with 12 men instead of 11. The CFL actually developed out of rugby organizations.

Agree, it's slowly starting to enter mainstream media. It's by no means a perfect measure, but compared to the average football pundit "preaching" to millions how football matches would apparently always end in cricket scorelines every single weekend (WALCOTT SHOULD HAVE SCORED THREE!!!), it's not even a contest. Ideally, long-term, in real analysis it's a mix. There's stuff purely statistic models can't display, which is where an educated pundit would come in mixed with the stats. However, at the moment, even the models that exist are so far ahead of the "subjective gut feeling" even of experienced former players oftenly, it's not even up for debate.

Advanced analytics still gets resistance in baseball and "Moneyball" was 15 years ago. :D
