  1. I made a discussion thread about this in the general chat

But broken down simply, my argument is as follows.

Boards that have a strong personality against youth setups:

    1. Limit your ability to build the club you want to within your own sandbox.

    2. This limitation is not necessary for game balance, nor does it create a meaningful challenge to the game

    3. You often only find out that your club is unwilling to invest in youth, beyond a certain level, after potentially hundreds of hours played.

    4. All boards should, with a strong enough budget, be willing to have max youth facilities. Some boards will actively seek it, some will not value it as much and thus will want to be in a strong financial situation, but it should be possible with all clubs.

    5. Your boards willingness to invest in youth should be transparent before you start the game.

This same thing applies to stadiums. I have a 30k seater stadium with a 60k season ticket waiting list. My board refuses to build a new stadium because 'we can achieve our current ambitions with our current stadium', meaning, from my understanding, that with all the money and fans in the world, your club will never have a world class stadium.

  2. I understand this is something that probably has been discussed, and that this is probably just a rant.

I have a save that I am over 10 seasons into, that I have put over 250 hours into. At the start, my goal was to turn my club into the biggest club in Europe, with the best facilities, biggest stadium etc... Now, I understand that game design and fun dictates that the board not give you everything you ask for. Not only is this unrealistic, but your board pulling out a quarter billion dollar loan to sign haaland in the national league would erase any difficulty to the game. With that said, virtually request that you make to the board can be overcome thru simply playing the game more and making your club bigger and richer. Except for a few things, namely youth facilities and building new stadiums. While it is understandable that some boards will prioritize youth more than others, and some will be more ambitions to have a bigger stadium, the fact that some boards are simply hardcoded to not build bigger stadiums or invest in youth beyond a specific level doesnt really serve to balance the game, all it does is put a limitation on your imagination and that you can only discover after you have put hundreds of hours into the game. If your board is not going to be willing to invest in youth, it should be stated up front when you select the team. Realistically, this should be done away with and all boards should have a desire to improve youth and have the biggest stadium. Exactly where the levers are can be fiddled with, some boards are more ambitions than others, but having the best youth facilities and a proper stadium should be achievable with every club in the world, if not, you should know before you click the start game button.

In short, I feel like I have lost all motivation in my save. To have spent hundreds of hours building my club to learn that I will never have a world class wonderkid come thru my academy, or leave my parking lot stadium in favor of a proper bowl stadium no matter how much money my club makes...

  3. It seems like no matter the directness or mentality I set for the team, when we win the ball in the last few seconds of a game when tied or down a goal on attacking or very attacking, my players always seem to make a back pass. They should just send it. Worst case you just dont get a goal. I get it isnt the perfect pass but the ref is going to blow the whistle if you arnt on a promising attack anyway.

  4. Anyone know if the bug where basically all players current play time is surplus to requirements is in 2024?

Out of 25 games this player has started in 2 and appeared in 21. The in game tooltip describes Surplus to requirements as being 'Unlikely to make ANY first team appearances' I really wish this was something they just made fully transparent.

I am in year 2028 now and i have reached the UCL Final so he gets plenty of game time against hard teams. The greek league still isn't the best but has improved (kinda like the Portuguese league irl)

That is also another aspect. A player in a league that is too low wont be challenged enough to develop fully, in too hard of a league they will get frustrated at their poor performance and wont develop either.

  6. What are his mental attributes? His determination, workrate and personality?

    9 hours ago, ROUFIANOS said:

Is there a chance that he doesn't ever get near his potential?

Yes. Not everyone reaches their potential. It depends on the quality of coaching, training facilities, their mental attributes as well as the quality of your youth facilities from when he spawned in.

Yes but also playing position I'm pretty sure, targets all their attributes, just to a lesser extent. Where as specific role will target the highlighted attributes but a bit more and the ones that aren't highlighted a bit less than playing position. That's how I understand it anyway.

So exactly how the 'playing position' works I am not sure. It targets attributes still, however, zealand did a comprehensive development investigation and found that setting a role and extra focus will increase a players development, not just specialize it.

  8. Playing position is mostly just going to train them on their familiarity to play a specific position. Role is going to provide additional training for the attributes needed to a role. It is important to note that there is no role familiarity in this game, so when training a role, pick something that is going to train their weaknesses, not necessarily the actual role they are going to play. For striker it can often be beneficial to train them as a Complete forward, even if they cant play as it.

Forums were the main way to interract before these new fangled days of social media that the younguns love.

This forum is one of the few that's survived the forum deaths. Probably because so many of us FM players are such old farts. :kriss:

When I was young we even chatted face to face...

Yea, I know I was big on forums back in the day, I just didnt realize this specific one was that old. Personally I think forums are much superior to discord and the other replacements.

I've played Championship Manager/Football Manager since tthe first itteration as a young lad and have loved every edition... When I was 15 Ipswich were promoted to the Premier League (1999/2000) and I changed my name on the forums at the time to Ipswich Staying Up... we did for one season and the next season led to 22 years of struggles and pain but ultimately faith and loyalty. Now in 2024 I'm hopeful once again that Ipswich are staying up!!!!

    Football eh? Bloody hell.

The most important thing I took from that is that these forums are 24 years old???

  11. Just wanting to suggest streamlining trials. Currently, for every trial you bring in, you have to click thru three emails, one notifying you the player is set to go on trial, one notifying you the player is on trial and one notifying the player is no longer on trial. When hunting thru say, 1000 players looking for an improvement, that is a carpal tunnel inducing number of clicks. I would like to suggest

    1. The confirmation email to bring someone on trial is eliminated. There is no reason why this needs to work the same as a transfer. Trials are free and happen immediately after you request them, so there really is no need for a confirmation click, as you likely didnt change your mind within a few seconds. You can set your staff to automatically approve transfers, however it still generates an email you can click thru.

    2. The terminating trial email should be removed. If I am removing someone from trial I likely no longer care about that player, and do not want to do additional 'next unread' clicks per person. This could easily be summarized into one email for all the players who were terminated from their trials at the same time.

    3. The Player is on trial email could be condensed into one email for every player who is brought on trial at the same time.

  12. Yea, this is very hard to predict. They opted for realism here, where it can be difficult for a team to get invited to a league when it is created. Same thing, if it is in a league that isnt playable sometimes they will only play friendlies.

If you are going to do a save that relies on a B team, I would suggest either picking a team with a B team, or using the editor to create a B team and add it to a playable league before you start the save.

    - that player who was good in the lower leagues but now promoted he isnt cutting in anymore? although still on league 2 wages? Better give him up for free

But my god, dont you ever try to bid below a players value when itbelongs to the AI

That is exactly it. He was a player from when my team was in the third tier of germany. When I got promoted all my players wanted me to double their wages. I wasnt able to find a replacement in time for him so I had to give to an unrelastic wage to get him to renew, or have a hole in my team. Now I am stuck with a deadbeat player who I would literally accept a free transfer for just to get him off my books. let alone 80% of his market price

  14. 9 hours ago, wazzaflow10 said:

What's the value on his player page (assuming you haven't put a price tag on him)? Transfermarkt has him as 225k currently.

Selling him at 180k would be a 20% discount so it's not totally outrageous to be blocked imo. It'd be nice if there was a bit more dialogue between the manager and the board before it happened to state why he's being sold so low. But it probably means you can push the negotiation more and up the value either through clauses or outright fees. The best solution is to play him more even if you don't want to so you can demand more money.

Even if it is a 20% discount on his value, that value is very low compared to his wage, speaking of which, the board is 'devastated' over my control over wages. So either they need to accept selling a payer for 10k less than he is worth, or they should shut up about my wage budget lol.

  15. I feel like the board should only block a transfer if the offer is substantially below the amount they would accept. Here the board is blocking a 180k offer when because they want 190k. This is a very small difference, especially since this player is making over 300k a year and isnt playing. I can understand at higher levels when player values are several times their wage, but ultimately we will lose almost 200k waiting for the next transfer window because the board isnt ready to get 10k less than they think is acceptable.

  16. I am playing in the german 3rd league and am trying to figure out why my u19 team keeps offering contracts to players. When I got the prospects email I signed the best ones, only for my u19s team to offer $25000 contracts to half a dozen other players. Additionally, they are offering pro contracts to players who are not worth it. My club is not very rich and I can not complete in my league with my u19s team having a wage bill comparable to my 1st team. Under staff responsibilities I have control over all contract negotiations.
