Because that's how it feels to me. I enjoy using this role a lot but of recent it seems like the player always tries a long pass without much effort and it gets intercepted resulting in an opposition chance. And yes, he has both switch ball to the other flank and tries long range passes skills, combined with high passing, vision and decision making.

GET YOUR STRIKERS SCORING!!!
Mr.e replied to Mr.e's topic in Tactics, Training & Strategies Discussion
Maybe that's the option that your tactic lands him in more often than not. Feel free to test it out! -
Ok get this, your favorite wonderkid striker can't do what you took him from a family hangout during Christmas for. We've all been there, we're still there even, but i got you I haven't seen anyone else talking about this but train them in every method of finishing. Yeah that's it. Go round the keeper, blast the ball into the back of the net, lobs, place shots, first time shots, shoot from distance (if his attribute is high enough, I like 14), heck even overhead kicks if you can get him to. What this does is it gives him a full arsenal of finishing skills whereby he always makes the approximate "best choice" when in shooting situations. It takes time mind you, probably a few seasons depending on the player but i promise you its worth it. I first discovered this on FM19 with Fabio Silva and i must admit at the time my tactic making skills were mediocre, but i had him getting 40~50 goals a season. In FM23 i got Moukoko to score 94 goals one season which is my highest ever. as you'd expect he also has 70~80 goal seasons. So if you can take the time to do this plus a good tactic then you're welcome in advance

It isn't a "blank slate" role as it has it's own given instructions
-
I understand that every role on the pitch has their own specific instructions, but at times you want that player to do a bit more than that. This sometimes can be achieved through adding of specific instructions, but I've discovered that this only holds true for the midfield (DM, CM, AM etc.) and defensive positions (FB), not for the forwards. I like to do things differently at times, my favorite being; rather than using a DLP or AP, I'd just use a cm with their instructions (and add/subtract the way I like) . It works really well for me but I cant really do that for the forwards. After all, there is no forward role with a clean slate like the CM for example for me to play with. My best example of this need is being on the counter. My pacey DLF, rather than running through on goal, he turns back and looks for a pass when he has it in his locker to leave all the defenders in the dust. I'd like to be able to have him follow that particular instruction, as a DLF rather than having to change his role to maybe an AF. I hope this is read

More set piece variations (and routines)

More set piece variations (and routines)

Free kicks? Not corners? I just checked again and you cant. -
If I recall correctly, in FM 13 there was an option of, if a corner is taken to the back post, you could give specific instructions to the player there whether to go for goal or head back to the near post... I really liked that. This also helps the towering cb with poor a heading attribute. Also, you could tell the near post man whether to flick on or not. And presently you can't place a defender at either post when defending free kicks. I can't have JWP and the likes catching highlights against me all the time. Again, the individual instructions could also be added in present set piece routines to add more unpredictability. I also understand this could also be used against you but meh. If these were to be addressed I feel more routines would be needed to capture match needs. And this may not relate to set pieces but I recall if a cross was made you could tell the striker where to run e.g. winger: cross near post; striker: go to near post when ball is delivered. I also really liked that.
