  1. Sorrento update. We did very well our first season in Serie A. Finishing ninth position, and somehow qualifying for the ECL. No idea how really, It must be these new formats or something. Which is both bad, and good. Because I do not have the squad depth to compete on two fronts, and I lack the money to properly reinforce the squad. I might just play the B team mid-week and see how far that gets us.
  2. We finally did it! It took us four seasons, and a whole heap of financial trouble to make it to Serie A. We comfortably won the league with 3 match days remaining, despite having to sign 2 back-up keepers due to injuries. Our strong back line lead us through on our push for promotion, with the stand out being Christian Dalle Mura. An absolutely wonderful free transfer. 3-5-2 seems to very strong this year, but it was also very strong last year. I wanted to stick to a 4-3-3/4-2-3-1, but it's the Italian in me that reverted back to a comfortable 3-5-2/3-4-1-2/3-4-2-1. It's a versatile set-up, that can change depending on personnel and fitness levels. Certainly allows the rotation of players, alla Gasparini's Atalanta. But, I take more conservative approach. My line is lower, and I adjust counter-press/regroup depending how the match is going.
  3. Is this a joke, or the game trying to stop my chances at finally gaining promotion to Serie A? Starting keeper, Baresic, goes out for 8 weeks. Okay fine, my back-up is decent. Zamarion starts the next game. 20 minutes in, breaks his hand. Del Sorbo finishes the game, but he is not even close to being Serie B level. Luck has it that Nikita Contini, former Napoli back up, is available for a free transfer....Torn wrist ligaments during his second match. And then, Del Sorbo goes down for two weeks with the flu. I scrounge up Kochalski on free transfer... Is it only a matter of time before he gets injured now? Porco Miseria!
  4. Sorrento season four update We suffered another play off lost. This time we were knocked out in semi-final, by Empoli. Our goal keeper really let us down during the first leg, he conceded 3 goals on 5 shots. He has since been transfer listed. I am trying to sort out a replacement, but with no money it's very difficult. Once again, we will have to sell players in order to buy. And only our good players our worth anything. Out of curiosity, has anyone had their club go into administration? I got the notification in my inbox twice thought out the season, but nothing happened. The chairperson is still looking to sell the club... another interesting season is ahead of us. It might be my last if I don't secure promotion. Maybe I'll let my contract run out at the end of the season, or I'll start a new save in Japan now that has been fixed.. allegedly. In bocca al lupo tutti!
  5. Sorrento season 3/4 update. We hit a good run of form towards the end of the season, mainly due to out new signings creating more chances for our striker. Our striker on loan from Lazio, Valerio Crespi, finished the season strong with 16 goals. We ended signing him on a free, for modest wages. Igor Strzalek had an immediate impact, and provided both goals and assist playing as our number 10. We entered the playoffs during the preliminary round. With our good run of form, anything is possible. Serie B playoffs are a little tricky, if the game ends in a draw. The higher seeded team goes through to the next round, us being the last seed had no choice but to go for the victory every match. The match started off very well, we were holding possession well and scored off a set-piece. Unfortunately for us, our starting 20year old starting DM, Diego Ripani, demonstrated his lack of experience. He slide in with a nasty tackle from behind. At the point we are tried our best to weather the storm, but being down a man against a superior team was a tall task. We eventually lost 3-1, and I immediately criticized Ripani and transfer listed him. Catanzaro came in with a 1m euro bud +20% sell on clause, I quickly accepted. Great deal for us, since he came in on a free. Now here's where things get interesting, we have started the 2026/27 season in scintillating form. We already beat some of the top teams soundly. We smashed Sampdoria 3-0 at home, and we beat Empoli 2-1 away from home (they had a stoppage time set piece goal). Our team is mostly the same last season, we added a couple loans from Napoli to fill some gaps in the squad. But are key signings over the summer were Niccolo Armini from Potenza (350k), and new-gen Davide Placidi from Pescara (275k). This is how my tactic is set up, I adjust a bit between home, away, and which side gets the inverted full-back based on the opposition. When I go up, I usually lower the tempo a bit and switch the striker to PF-D.
  6. Serie B is really difficult to gain promotion this time around. I'm currently playing my third season in Serie B with Sorrento. There is literally zero money in serie B, and most serie c clubs going up don't have much money. At this point I have sell players before I can buy, or even renew contracts.
  7. Mid season update with Sorrento. Once again we are sitting mid table, never able to make a consistent run of games and move ahead of the pack. Fortunately for us, the middle is very tight. And with a good run of form, hopefully we can reach the promotion play offs and hope for a miracle. Our star player Andrei Coubis, refused to enter into contract negotiations. He was determined to see to the end of his contact, as a result we had to reach out to some intermediaries to find a transfer. Catanzaro quickly came in for an offer of 2.2m, I worked them up to 2.9m +30% of the future sale, not a bad deal. That added 2m to our transfer budget, and I got quickly to work. I renewed a couple of players contracts, and then I hit the transfer market... We are currently 4th in the Xg table. Our strikers are letting us down, but I couldn't find any better replacements this window. So we looked at other positions, our first priority is to replace a inverted full back to replace Coubis. Adam Bakoune is our Coubis replacement, he has a very similar physical profile. Although more of a wing back, he slots perfectly into out inverted full back role Coubis played. He is on loan from Atalanta, with a 650k option to buy. Now this is my marque signing, Igor Strzalek. He immediately became our best player upon transferring from Legia Warsaw. Transfer fee was 500k up front, 700k in instalments, and a 5% sell on clause. Our other key signing was Nicola Dalmonte, a gifted play maker who can play on the wing or as a striker.
  8. Very nice, looking forward to following this along. I am currently managing Sorrento. I won serie C first go around, a good tactic and team cohesion should see you through. Serie B is another story. I'm currently stuck mid table after two seasons. It's a very difficult league to earn promotion. In Bocca al lupo!
  9. You guys both sold Cataldi? He is one of the few home grown players within the squad.
  10. Second season update with Sorrento. We finished lower mid table comfortably. Never being in danger of relegation throughout the season. The first half of the season went very well, the club reached as high as 6th potion within the table. Partly due to our keeper, Alessio Salvato, playing in rich form. Which attracted the interest of Frosinone, and they triggered his release clause of 325k. Our back up is decent, and we were desperate in need of the money anyways. I will certainly need to find a better keeper for the next season, although money is an issue. I'll have to use the loan market to effectively fill the gaps within the squad. On the bright side, Andrei Coubis is now worth up to 3.2m. He is very much our best player, but we may be sold if a bid comes in. Because as you can see, the board has given me no money to work with. Financially the club is deep in the red, and quickly plummeting. I'm curious to see what happens if we can't get out of this increasing debt.
  11. Since we can no longer discipline players. How do we go about achieving a similar thing? Can we only critize and praise players now? I think the best part of the old system, was the motivation of players. And you would sometimes get a email saying X player is responding well to disciplinary measures etc. Now I have a striker dropping stinkers, and my only option is to suggest a target. Half the time the player refuses to agree to the target.
  12. I love seeing all these Lazio saves!! Forza Lazio Sempre!
  13. I'm a Lazio supporter, so I generally don't play as the team I support. I feel too bad sacking the manager, and getting rid of the players. How is your line-up? Patric looks pretty damn good in the game, I'd say he's better than Casale right now.
  14. I think if you are down, and in the closing seconds. Your GK may run up for the set piece. It has only happened for me a handful times, it might have something to do with the mentality.
  15. We managed to win the league, on the final match day! Luckily for us, Crotone lost, so we had the title in our hands by halftime. Sorrento pulled off this surprise win, despite being projected to finish last in Serie C/C. I was given a very modest budget from the board. That I spent most of it on picking up the options on our loan players. In particularly, our marque signing was Andrei Coubis. The Italian-Romanian is big, fast, and strong. Coubis has decent technicals and mentals for our level. He only costed us 500k (250k instalments) plus 20% on future sale going to Milan. We are currently over spending on out wage budget, and our finances are quickly falling into the red. Promotion seems unlikely, as we are projected to finish last again... player sales may have to come soon, and our only player worth anything is Andrei Coubis! I will update on how the campionato cadetto goes for the Sorrentina.... We also moved back into our home ground, with it's capacity of 3600. Which we struggle to pack out.
  16. Is it possible to change a club's full name during a save? Or would I have to create an editor file, and start a new save for the change to apply.
  17. I just started a save with Sorrento. Even though the team is projected to finish last, I've been doing very well. In particularly, I got Matteo Francesconi on loan from Cesena (with an option to buy for 250k). This kid is insanely good for Serie C, he just dominates every game for me playing as a BBM. If you are playing a serie C or B Italian save, scout the Cesena roster and see who is available. That team is absolutely full of bargains. Another strong young player for Cesena is, Alessandro Giovannini. I was trying to sign him, but I didn't have room in the budget.
  18. "as swift as wind, as gentle as forest, as fierce as fire, as unshakable as mountain." Kofu was once home to the "Tiger of Kai", Shingen Takeda. His battle standard, the Fūrinkazan, is referenced in our club's name Ventforet (wind-forest in french). His legacy and battle standard, will influence how our club plays. We will counter attack swiftly, and defend like a mountain (which acted as a natural fortress during Shingen's time). But, who is the man to lead Kofu to domestic dominance and continental glory? Well none other than a ancestor of Shingen himself. Mister Antonio Takeda, known to his friends and family as Tony. Born in Canada, to a Japanese father and an Italian Mother. As a youth, he supported both Japanese and Italian national sides, but he grew up as a Lazio supporter as his Italian side of the family supported the team as well. The supporters wants us to play counter attacking football, not a problem. It suites our philosophy. The goals set by the board are very much achievable, but not shown here is the board's objectives for the AFC champions league. In case you didn't know (I surely did not), we have qualified for the 2023 AFC champions league via winning the domestic cup... As a second division side! Now here lies the main challenge. Can Kofu push for promotion, attempt to defend our Emperor's Cup victory, and put in a competitive showing in the AFC champions league. Perhaps these goals are too lofty for our quality, but I think we can at least achieve promotion via playoffs or the automatic spots. This will certainly be a challenge, as we predicted to finish 9th. The short term goals are the following: -Promotion to the J league 1 -Proving that our Cup win was no fluke -A respectable showing in the AFC -Tony Takeda using his Italian connections to attract Italian coaches or players
  19. The last Esposito brother looks really good. He starts on loan at Spezia.
  20. Hellas Verona had just managed to escape relegation to the cadetteria (Serie B), via the newly implemented relegation play-off rule. A societa (club) known for it's wild and vocal ultras, and it's miracle scudetto (Serie A winners shield) of the 84-85 campionato (championship). In recent years, since returning to the top-flight in the 2019-2020 campionato, I Gialloblu (the yellow blues) having place higher than expected, and have managed to survive a couple relegation scraps. A squad with a quick turn around, as the societa never hesitates to sell players on for a profit. A keen follower of Italian football would surely know some of the names of the players sold. Here is a short list; Sofyan Armabat, Amir Rrahmani, Mattia Zaccagni, Ivan Ilic, Giovanni Simone, Destiny Udogie, Antonin Barak, Matteo Lovato, and Marash Kumbulla. Now that would be quite a strong squad...tipped for relegation once again can l Butei (Veronese dialect for the boys, or Ragazzi in italian) beat the drop, and manage to hold onto their strong players? And the manager to lead Gli Scaligeri (Old noble family of verona) will be none other than Timoteo Parchi... A pseudonym of our author of course. Will Il Mister (The manager) opt for an English style 4-4-2, or a more typical Italian style 3-5-2. Find out in a few weeks time, as we take part in A Season with Verona. Ci vediamo a dopo! Just as Tim Parks educated the reader on Italian, and Veronese football culture. I too will write in this style, and everyone can learn some more about Calcio! And if you haven't read his book yet, It is highly recommended for any lover of football.
  21. What started as a no badge/semi-pro experience (I played at a semi-pro level) journeyman save, turned into trying to relive the "Miracle of Castel di Sangro". To anyone unaware of the story, I highly recommend the book by Joe McGinniss: The Miracle of Castel di Sangro. The club has fallen since the highs of achieving "La Salvezza" during the 1996-97 Serie B season, it now sits within the 5th tier of Italian calcio, Eccellenza Molise (notably that Castel di Sangro is part of Aburzzo, not the region of Molise it is currently registered in). In the FM database, the club has no players and manager. I applied for the job with no prior experience, and was welcomed to the club having not a single player of the roster. I quickly assembled a roster of free agents, and easily won promotion to Serie D playing a super direct style. Serie D was of similiar quality to the Eccellenza , and we easily secured the title with several games to spare. Unfortunately, we did not win any of smaller cup tournament besides the Coppa Molise during our first season. However, Serie C/C is a much harder division. I opted to play a classic 3-5-2 counter attack, as our route one style would not be successful against the much more organized and talented Serie C clubs. Miraculously, we successfully secured a comfortable 11th place, only a few points short of a playoff spot even after selling our best player in the summer. I will post some screenshots below. Our key player during the first two seasons, the English born striker could not emulate his form in Serie C.
  22. Good start! You should steamroll yourself into serie C/C, where things will get interesting. You will automatically be given professional status upon promotion as well. Also, which database are you using? FusionDB has a really good one down to the fifth tier, with all the cups included as well.
