Anchor and Defensive midfielder on defend duty. What's the major difference between the two?

At least on eye, they just seem to behave so much similar one to another.
Or could it be because of the same player used in the role?

Without having experience with the role, he shouldn't close down at the flanks if at anchor role and instead join the defense as an extra cb. So it's at our own third where you'll see the difference.

Auxerre has 3 midfielders in total in their squad bro. The only attacking mid is Hein so i have no subs if i play with a number 10. I have 2 good strikers so i had to use them somehow. Owusu has nice work rate and defending skills and Raveloson is pretty well rounded to be able to move forward.

Oh I'm sorry, I didn't know that obviously, i assumed that they have some depth. If you insist in using 4-2-4 I'd play like so, which will give you much more solidity ans support:

Not going to post the whole thing but they were my QFs onwards

Got similar, tried not to click buttons and gave it some thought. Portugal vs France was my prediction for the final too.

I have the same problem. When I try to run FM24 in the Steam version on Ubuntu 24.04 it gets stuck on the loading screen. Has anyone managed to solve this?

Might be because the new version of Ubuntu is still fresh (I personally haven't gotten the update yet), make sure everything (Ubuntu, Steam, FM) is fully updated. Also version of Proton 8.0-5 works like a charm at Ubuntu 22.04, so pick this version.

Rodrygo's touch map vs Man City is that of a wide player, not a central striker in a pairing I think.

That's because they played 4-5-1 in this game (Rodrygo at LW), however they haven't done so the rest of the season and they haven't played 4-3-3 this year almost at all. "Normally" Rodrygo plays at mid-right and Vini at mid-left and they both play wider and roam etc. Behind them is Bellingham and then the trio in the mid is Valverde, Tchouameni and Camavinga (secundo volante, defensive midfielder and the role in question -  for me it's rpm - respectively that usually Camavinga has). I agree that dlp-su is too static, there is a merit for regista as he also does a lot of the things Kroos (or Camavinga) does in the field.

type of profile on a RPM (mobile, can run with the ball + strong mentals to roam), but that's just me

Interestingly enough, Kroos does all of these things irl, I'll admit I wasn't aware of his FM tab when I posted my previous comment.

What do guys think of the role of Toni Kroos this season? A regista or DLP on support? Trying to recreate Madrid here.

    I'd go with roaming playmaker.

Madrid play a 4-3-3 W/Tchouameni as the 6 so definitely not a regista (only available in the DM strata). Kroos is probably best fit as a CM(s) on the left sided 8 in the setup w/tinkered PIs. DLP(s) could also work, as he recycles possession a lot, but comes w/hold position which isn't great in a 4-3-3.

Ultimately a player like Kroos's importance is difficult to replicate in the ME. These are players who control the match and are always available to receive the ball under pressure.

They play a 4-3-1-2, Kroos is one of the 3 defensive midfielders, since he has impact higher up the pitch too I'd say roaming playmaker is the best pick.

  7. Well I've been sacked many times with any kind of team imaginable, title favorites where I've lost title, relegation fodders which i have not managed to save despite playing well, mid teams that didn't fare well (sacked within objectives). The last one is the most difficult, even if you are predicted 9th and finish 12th the board is not going to sack you probably.

Since 23 I've slowly moved away from 4-3-3, and every time I try to go back I'm reminded why. The issue is the striker, he's a glorified spectator and unless he gets goals or assists he's a guaranteed 6.4 or lower. Any tips?

Put him on support, problem solved. He'll drop deep and link play just as is intended at any 4-3-3 that makes sense that I know. On attack duty ofc he'll just lurk and wait for his opportunities just like irl.

    Thanks for the replies fellas.

What i will say i've played about 15 games, and i'm yet to see any real halfspace cross, not just from my rcm, that i want to do it, but in general from any player. I'm clearly doing something wrong.

Also with the stay wider suggestion, that is hardcoded in the mezzala, so shouldn't be an issue. I have also tried with a different role just without the stay wider. And honestly my rcm takes up roughly the same positions, but just doesn't cross it from the right half space

I've seen it a few times in my save, no specific instructions. The player who executed it had crazy skill (technical and mental attributes), he's my best player. I was playing him in a playmaker role if it helps (roaming playmaker).

  10. Hmm if the "cross more often" player instruction doesn't help I don't know what will do it. One thing I've noticed, some players (low-ish teamwork maybe?) play to their strengths and ignore some tactical instructions, if your midfielders are poor in crosses maybe they refrain from using them. Maybe try "stay wider" player instruction too so they'll be in the positions that De Bruyne is.

Edit: Also, the player needs good vision and anticipation at least to execute the cross.

I appreciate your replys. So it seems there is no way to make a center midfielder to do exactly what I want in FM24?

Is there a place for players to provide ideas for FM25? I think it is quite often to see a center midfielder moves to sidelines in real life for build-up purposes and providing width , especially in the current football meta of using inverted fullbacks or wingbacks.

It happens literally all the time for me. I play with mez and use "run at defense" which i think does it. When they find a gap they dribble there. They also do it without the ball many times, maybe it's an attribute issue?

Edit: You can also use overlap, that might also do it.
Edit no 2: Whatever role you use for the midfielder, make sure he has "roam from position" checked.

  12. Yes, it's at the same place(coach discussion)? I think it works for me, I have removed a couple. You go to traits, discuss new trait and it's at the equivalent category. If you cannot do it, maybe it's a bad coach thing or a bug maybe?

  13. I check the opponent wingers mainly and the forward, if the forward is pacy I put my fast CB there if not my tall one. Wingers, are they inverted or not, I then use similar footed fullbacks and also check acceleration /pace. In mid i choose whether to play my strong DM or rotate depending if they have strong midfield or not. That kind of stuff. i tend not to adjust my forwards to their back-line and go with the typical support forward + two inverted wingers.

I always avoid that. Playing with 3 central strikers its not realistic and it takes advantage from ME, I guess.

There are teams that have been playing like that though irl, Toulouse FC comes to mind they were playing like that and had managed to stay in Ligue 1 for a long time.

You can find comments from Klopp and Salah at the time where it's stated that his job was to play as close to the opposition CBs as possible. That tells you straight off the bat that playing him as an AF would be a good starting point.

If I remember correctly, they also saw their system as more of a 442/4411 than the 433 people commonly put it down as. Personally I always thought it was a diamond, given how deep Firmino played and how narrow the 'wide' forwards always were.

A pure 4-3-1-2 indeed, if I remember properly too. Used to play like that and my two strikers with "stay wider" instruction scored a lot.
