Operário dos Açores – Season 18 (2040/41) Primeira Liga I made the mistake of prioritising CL games a bit too much and it was looking like we won’t qualify for the CL next season, but we dramatically managed to overtake Portimonese on the last day and finish 4th, scraping through to next year’s competition. I hope I can make it a bit more drama-free next year. Champions League Another really strong showing, finishing 10th in the group stage and beating Burnley (yes, Burnley) in the first KO round. But then we made a mistake playing too attacking against Real Sociedad, I guess I underestimated them, turns out they have a really strong team who won the competition a few years ago, and they absolutely hammered us in the last 16. Domestic cups We manage to win the Taça de Portugal thanks to some favourable draws and a dramatic extra time win over Benfica in the quarters Players The new generation is starting to come through, looks like we’ve got very talented fullbacks and an AMC, all from the stellar 16th intake. Saido Djaquité 16a (DR/AMR) is the pick of the bunch, but playing him at DR has created us a few defensive problems this season. Youth intake (preview) Worse than the last few years, but it looks like we got one good talent in João Rodrigues 18a (DMC), a position where I could use some cover. Facilities/finances Surprisingly the board allowed us to upgrade our youth facilities again so they’re now at Superb and everything else is maxed out. Finances wise, we’re swimming in cash thanks to the CL. Transfers nothing of note. Operário dos Açores – Season 17 (2039/40) Primeira Liga We went nowhere near last season’s highs, but managed to finish 4th and qualify for the Champions league playoffs. Champions League A great showing in the group stage saw us enter the last 16 where we lost narrowly to Atletico. I guess they deserved it based on the balance of play, but we only lost by 1 goal and missed 2 penalties over the 2 legs which is kind-of annoying. Players I’m waiting for the talents from the last few intakes to come through, but for now the old guard is still doing well, with Dinis Soares 10a (AMRLC) the pick of the bunch. Youth intake (preview) Not as good as last year (and terrible personalities!), but we got 4 elite talents, and most of them are defenders, so this one should definitely fill some gaps in the squad over the coming years. Facilities A few more facility upgrades, youth facilities are now stuck at excellent and training facilities are about to be maxed, plus we’re getting a stadium expansion. Transfers nothing of note. Operário dos Açores – Season 16 (2038/39) Primeira Liga Well, what would you know - we went ahead and won the league! We had an amazing start to the season, winning 11 out of 12 while our rivals kept dropping points. Our form was not as good afterwards, but we still had enough points in the bank to win the title, largely thanks to a bore 0-0 draw at home to Porto at the tail-end of the season. Europa League Another last 16 exit, but this one was much closer, losing to Galatasaray after two games in which we actually had the better chances. Domestic Cups Early exits allowed us to focus on the league, which paid off. Players Our defence was even more solid this year thanks to the emergence of a young rightback, but the true stars were in attack, with two season-10 intake prospects shining, Dinis Soares 10a (AMLC) is now our best player wanted by a bunch of European clubs, and Sabino Mont’Alverne 10b (AMRLC) played the assist king from midfield. Youth intake (preview) Amazing! Easily the best intake of the game. Given the level the team is playing at, to have 6 elite prospects with 3 of them having 2* CA is pretty special. Plenty of rightbacks too all of a sudden, from having none it may become our strongest position in a few years’ time. Facilities More improvements, we’ll be at Great-Great-Exceptional-Exceptional for facilities and coaching in a few months’ time. It clearly paid off in the intake this year. Transfers nothing of note, but starting to reject bids from upper mid-table German and English teams for a few of our better players. @grff Congrats!! Operário dos Açores – Season 15 (2037/38) Primeira Liga Our first season of European football resulted in some inconsistency in the league early on, as we had to rotate heavily. But once we got knocked out of all the cups the team picked up steam, and we finished the season with 5 straight wins, qualifying for the Europa again with ease and only finishing 1 point outside of the CL slots. Europa League We were surprisingly good, finishing 7th in the league stage and qualifying for the last 16, where we were beaten comprehensively by Atletico Madrid. I played my first team in all the fixtures to get that £500k-per-win bonus. We also reached the semis of the two domestic cups, where we were comprehensively thrashed by Sporting and Benfica. Players: The goals were harder to come by this season, but our defence improved massively, mostly thanks to the emergence of Martim Fortuna 12b (DC) who is now our highest-valued player. We have one 16-year old fullback who is developing nicely, so I’m hoping for some continued defensive improvements over the coming years. Youth intake (preview): The facility upgrades (below) immediately paid off, as we saw 4 elite talents come through. The only issue is that it’s very attack heavy again, but there are a few 4-4.5* fullbacks in there (one upgraded to 5* now), so I’m hoping one of them is good. After 15 years of toil, the Europa finally saw us earn some money, and we splashed the cash, improving training facilities twice, and youth facilities and coaching three times each - now I'm rubbing my hands waiting for the next intakes )) Transfers nothing of note. Operário dos Açores – Season 14 (2036/37) Primeira Liga We started the season similar to last, picking up enough points to avoid relegation but lacking consistency. Then we went on a very nice run in February-April which saw us climb into the European spots, and despite some atrocious results against the usual big hitters in the last few games of the season (including a Spurs-y 6-1 loss away to Sporting) we hung on and finished 6th, qualifying for Europa league. Players: Still the story of crappy defence and good attack, Jordanes Vieito 08a (AMR/ST) had a great season, netting 25 goals in 30 games, and Denis Soares 10a (AMRLC) won the NxGn award, though I think this must be something strange about the algorithm, he isn’t labelled as a wonderkid and he’s not developing very fast; still, some of the youngsters are developing nicely and our U19s won the youth league, so things are looking up. Youth intake: Another attack-heavy intake this year, but Steve Barton 14a (ST) looks like a potential star to replace some of our long-serving forwards in a few years’ time. Also, a bit random to have Americans as the top 2 prospects this year. Facilities/finances: Still in the red, but with Europa league on the horizon I’m dreaming of finally upgrading my basic youth facilities next year. But of course, the first thing the board decided once finances stabilised was to build a brand new stadium which will see us pay £240k per month in loan repayments for the next 10 years, so maybe I will need to wait until champions league now :z (I hope not!). Operário dos Açores – Season 13 (2035/36) Primeira Liga We survived! We hovered close to the drop in the early season, but then our form picked up and in the end we stayed up comfortably, finishing mid-table and only a few points off the European places. Players: Our defence, and especially full backs, are absolutely atrocious but our attackers kept bailing us out time and again, with Jose Mendes 04d deciding to have one of his best seasons to date, finishing the season with some 22 goals! A few youngsters are developing too, but they’re all attackers, so it will be an exciting save for a while… Youth intake: Nothing to be too excited about, for sure. My first intake in the top division, and I only get one decent-looking prospect in a position where we’re already well stocked. I’m hoping for some defenders next year. Facilities/finances: Well, apparently the top division in Portugal is no money machine either, so we’re over £3m in debt, insecure finances, wage budget cuts… Still, I managed to upgrade youth requirement before it all kicked off, so there’s a positive. Transfers I wouldn’t mind selling some players to fix my finances but nobody seems to be in for them at the moment. Operário dos Açores – Season 12 (2034/35) Liga 2 Well, after waiting 11 years to get up to the 2nd division, we only ended up spending 1 season there. But…. drumroll…. We’ll be going up, not down! I could tell from the start that we had a chance to do ok in the league, since we weren’t predicted last and quite a few of our players were Liga 2 standard. We hit the ground running but tailed off around Christmas with a few heavy defeats, sliding down to mid-table. As the end of the season approached, however, we hit one of those great FM runs, and clinched promotion after winning 9 on the trot. Probably going to get absolutely hammered next season, but we’ll be mixing it up with the big boys in Primeira Liga for at least 1 year! Players: So, strange thing, lots of my intakes were underwhelming with very low CA, but then at some point these kids start developing and turn into pretty decent players, despite my crappy facilities and many unambitious personalities. Jordan Vieito 08a (ST/AMR) is now a leading Liga 2 player, and quite a few others are getting close to his standard. Not sure what’s going on, probably Portuguese leagues have quite a high rep, and the country has a high youth rating so you get these decent-PA regens and then as long as you play them (and suffer through 6 seasons in the 3rd division) they will develop )) Youth intake: Pretty disappointing given that we are in division 2 now, no 5* prospects and very little CA (also, we do NOT need more strikers or wingers, and I changed the HOYD after a few years of poor personalities). But given what I said above I’m not giving up on these lads. Facilities/finances: uff, the 2nd division was certainly no money tree, £2.7m in debt now, hope I can clear some of it next year. Transfers Nothing major, it’s great having all these unambitious players as they’re not that bothered about asking for a move. Operário dos Açores – Season 11 (2033/34) Liga 3 We did it! No, not the Champions League… But we’ll finally be playing in Liga 2 next season. We actually started pretty badly, shipping lots of goals and having in the lower half of the table. But then we managed to to steady the ship, and we went on a great run which saw us end the regular season in 3rd and qualify for the promotion playoffs. We had a tough draw in the first game, away to Nacional who we only got 1 point against this season. To my great surprise, we outplayed them and won 3-0. We then went on to pretty much demolish everyone in the playoffs, winning 5/6 games and securing promotion! Players: I kind-off wrote off Jordanes Vieito 08a (ST/AMR) on intake day, as he had low CA, 4 determination, and an unambitious personality. But he developed really well and is probably our best player now, scoring 15 and assisting 9 in 25 games, mostly from the right wing. Other than that, the team has changed little but I’m trying to promote a couple of youngsters here and there. Youth intake: We finally have a left back! At least if he reaches something approaching his CA eventually. And it only took 11 seasons… Other than that, the intake looks better than last year with 3 elite talents and some fairly pro personalities. Facilities/finances: some belated cash injections mean we’re currently at -1m. But I don’t think we’ll be making much money in Liga 2 either. Transfers Just some loans out. Operário dos Açores – Season 10 (2032/33) Liga 3 It’s groundhog day again here: we won the league at a canter, but failed miserably in the promotion playoffs. The playoffs were extra painful this year though, as we were playing really well in the regular season, blowing everyone away, and then absolutely blew it in the playoffs. I mean, like, losing the first game 3-2 from 2-0 up, losing a couple of very tight games we deserved to win, drawing to a last minute equaliser… So we finished bottom of the promotion group this year, and that was that, another season in the 3rd division purgatory beckons. Players: Trying to promote a few more youngsters, with the main surprise being Dulio Do O, who was rated 2.5* PA at intake and who I only signed because of his professional personality, but now he has developed into a pretty decent right back, which is quite handy since I have no more right backs at the club (my attempts to retrain midfielders to play in that position have so far failed). Youth intake: Another year of poor personalities and very little CA. Dinis Soares 10a is rated as having 5* PA, but I'll believe it when I see him develop... Facilities/finances: more cash injections but the board are now cutting our wage budget, I hope we can get promoted in the next few years. Transfers Nothing of note. Operário dos Açores – Season 9 (2031/32) Liga 3 This season was a carbon copy of last season. For those who don’t remember my captivating account of last season, we finished 1st in the opening stage, messed up the beginning of the promotion playoffs but rallied to finish second in our playoff group, beat the other 2nd placed team to earn the final playoff against the team placed 16th in Liga 2, and lost this playoff narrowly by 1 goal on aggregate. Exactly the same thing happened this season, although I felt that our form was generally a bit better overall. Players: The squad is decent but stagnating a bit. This year it was Iuri Puga 06a (DC)’s turn to develop, and he was probably our most consistent player this season. Still, we just don’t have enough about us at the moment to beat the very top teams in the league, which keeps costing us in the promotion playoffs. Youth intake: Not happy with the personalities, not a single professional type personality in this intake. Nélson Silva 09b (MC) looks like a solid midfielder in the making, but I might retrain him as a right back since we currently have no right backs with more than 1.5* CA (and no-one with decent PA) in the squad, and the 1.5* CA player is 31 and on the decline. Facilities/finances: a new president and some cash injections, so things are looking up (as in stuck at -£1m instead of going deeper and deeper in to the red) Transfers Still keeping them top players. Operário dos Açores – Season 8 (2030/31) Liga 3 Last time we were in this division we were terrible, but this time we were suddenly fighting for back-to-back promotions! We finished 1st in the first stage, but the promotion stage was tough, and it took us until game 4 out of 6 to get going. We just about managed to finish 2nd in our promotion group, which meant that we went into a playoff against the other 2nd placed team, which we won, and then against a team who finished 16th in Liga 2, which we narrowly lost, so another season in Liga 3 beckons. Man, these Portuguese lower leagues are complicated! Also, I can't believe that the team called Länk FC, who beat us to the promotion, is actually Portuguese... Players: Some players have stalled but others are still improving, with the most-improved player award going to Pedro Perreira 04f, a winger who my assistant crazily retrained as a defensive mid while he was in the U19s, and who now actually plays as a defensive mid because I have no other players for that position. The usual youth challenge stuff. Youth intake: Messed up the screenshot a bit but overall, pretty decent if not spectacular. I hope that with João Pedro Valadar 08b I’ll finally get a proper defensive midfielder, but his attributes have regressed since the intake so now I’m not so sure. Facilities/finances: no more cash injections for some reason, so the board is cutting our wage budget to bare bones. Transfers Still keeping the players, a couple are unhappy but they are on long contracts. Operário dos Açores – Season 7 (2029/30) Campeonato de Portugal Group D After last season’s close call, I really wanted promotion this season, and we did it! We absolutely rocked the league with 68 points from 26 games, but the playoffs were actually really tough - we kept being the better team but only getting draws, and all the games were super tight. So it was left to our star man Juvenal Catojo 03a to score the winner in the last game of the playoffs, to send us through to Liga 3! Players: The squad is looking better and better, all bar 1 starter are our youth products now, all positions bar fullback are pretty well stocked, and we seem to have one star prospect José Mendes 04d who is the best player at the club, and rated as potential Primeira Liga striker. Youth intake: The best one we had in this division, but absolutely the wrong positions - only wingers basically, and we are already well stocked in attack. André Serrão 07a (AML/ST) does look like a good prospect though, he's already started some games for us. Facilities/finances: the board keeps giving us these cash injections which are keeping things respectable Transfers My GK and striker are getting too good for us, but I have managed to keep them so far, could be a tough summer of bids ahead. Operário dos Açores – Season 6 (2028/29) Campeonato de Portugal Group D Oh man, so close… We missed out on the playoffs by virtue of results between teams, after getting more points than in the year where we actually won the playoffs and got promoted. Lots of close results too, we were miles inside the playoffs but I took my eye off the ball a bit, and suddenly we were out on this “goal difference" thing. Surely next year is the year! Players: Juvenal Catojo 03a is still the best, but the reason we did so well is that we finally have a good goalie in Rui Mota 04g. So much of this challenge is about getting a good goalie and striker, then keeping them at all costs. Unfortunately Rui Mota won’t sign a new contract, but we’ll have him for a couple more years at least (he has an extension option). Youth intake: No depth, but we need centre backs and Yuri Puga 06a looks like a decent prospect. Facilities/finances: Continuously insecure, with occasional cash injections from the board keeping things on the edges of respectability. Transfers Kept hold of all my good players, not sure how much longer I’ll manage to keep them going forward. Operário dos Açores – Season 5 (2027/28) Campeonato de Portugal Group D Wow, what a tough season. I truly hope we have reached the bottom of this challenge, I don’t really fancy many more seasons like the last two. We continued our relegation form at the start of the season, and, in October, sat bottom of the league where 5/14 teams get relegated. But then the youngsters started being less dreadful, and we picked up a few close wins, then some more, and eventually we secured safety with 2 games to spare! Players: Almost all youngsters now, and one of them (the one Benfica tried to buy last year), Juvenal Catojo 03a, seems a real talent. He got 11 assists in 26 games from attacking midfield this season. Youth intake: Not as good as the last two, but better than I’m used to in this division, it will take a while for these to develop though. Facilities/finances: Insecure finances, wage budget cuts, all that stuff… Transfers Quite a few £0 bids from Div 1 & 2 teams for our players during the last summer, of course this just unsettled the players and didn’t do much else. And the great HOYD I got last year was gone (poached) after 3 months. Operário dos Açores – Season 4 (2026/27) Liga 3 I thought things would get better this season, but instead they got worse. My older players’ attributes dropped off a cliff, and the youngsters were not improving much, so the quality of our first 11 was far below what is required in the league. It took us 11 games to get our first win, and things didn’t get much better from there. In the end we went into the relegation playoff, and were deservedly relegated. To be honest I am looking forward to playing a division down next season (I did not get sacked), this transition to youngsters is never easy to manage, and doing it in Liga 3 was definitely too much for us. I just hope we don’t get relegated again! Players: All dreadful, but our only remaining original XI player of a decent age, Tiago Oliveira, did ok. A few of the youngsters are starting to develop too, so there is hope. Youth intake: Another good one, just look at these personalities! The future is definitely looking bright, as long as we can get there. Facilities/finances: Our board decided to splash out on a stadium upgrade (1,496 seats), the main effect of which was to switch our finances to “insecure”. No transfers of note, but Benfica U19 bid for one of my youngsters while I was holidaying between games, so he might actually be good! Operário dos Açores – Season 3 (2025/26) Liga 3 The 3rd division in Portugal is rather strange: you play the other 9 teams in your division twice over the course of 7 months, then almost all of those points are wiped off and you enter a winner- or loser- takes all promotion or relegation playoff. We started off ok but a long losing streak meant we finished 8th/10, and went into the relegation playoff against 2 other teams. Luckily one of these teams was really bad and our form picked up, so we won most of our playoff games and stayed up. I think my results were very morale-driven this season, basically when one of my CBs started complaining about moving to a bigger club, we lost 5 in a row, then for some reason in the play-off his unhappiness disappeared and we started playing well again. Players: Most of our original starters are edging towards mid-30s, so we were really short on bodies this year, but thanks to the play-off we managed to scrape by. That being said, one of the youngsters from "intake 0", Diogo Martins, has improved very well, and still has his professional personality - although his ups and downs in morale seemed to have a bit too much of an effect on our results this season :o Youth intake: Finally, a good one! Most importantly, I got some centre mids - an area where I’m desperately short, with Coventry-born Portuguese Dannie Simcox 03c the best of the lot (he basically went straight into the first team). Facilities: Training facilities got downgraded, and somehow we’re now in a higher-capacity stadium and paying rent (also, the stadium was built in 2025; not sure if I missed a message or it's some kind of bug). No transfers, and our finances are getting into a bit of a downward spiral since we turned pro. Operário dos Açores – Season 2 (2024/25) Campeonato de Portugal I may have been inspired by @XaW because we actually went on and got promoted this season! I would say it was rather undeserved though. We had one great run half-way through the season, but the other teams kept dropping points so somehow this was enough to see us finish 2nd with a measly 48 points. We then squeezed out a bunch of 1-0 wins and 0-0 draws in the playoffs, most of them by sneaking away goals on the counter against the run of play. Still, up to the 3rd division we go! Players: Pedro Tavares was a rock at the back, but my best centre mid is leaving on a free and another is retiring so we are in for a tough ride next season. Youth intake: Again nothing to write home about unfortunately, I hope at some point we start getting some proper players as my first team isn’t getting any younger. At least in Rúben Leal 04 we may eventually get a proper left back for the squad. Facilities: Upgraded recruitment twice, and we’re turning pro after our promotion. Hopefully this will see some of the youngsters start developing a bit faster. No transfers. nice! Maybe I picked the wrong Azores club I mean I'm up for a challenge but I don't have padders' levels of patience... Some of my players are decent too (though not this good), but the lack of depth was really killing me in the second half of the season. Guess the make-it-or-break-it moment will come in a few seasons' time when my current decent players retire and I'm left with the youths, hope they are good enough by then. @XaW haha well great minds think alike and all that I think you got a bit of head start there, I got some catching up to do! Seriously, well done on the promotion though - I think it might take me a while unless I can work some tactical miracles next year. I also noticed the homegrown rule towards the end of the year as it meant I couldn't play the players from my new intake (somehow I was on the HG limit before the intake without noticing it)
