On any higher team mentality the IF won't try to dribble but just go little wide with the ball, get a bad but open angle at goal and shoot....

Any mentally higher then balanced players will shoot the moment they have some space in the penalty box, so IF's as wide players shoot from bad angles often with their weaker foot.

Have you tried adding the "Shoot Less Often" PI? I was dealing with similar issues with my forwards constantly taking bad shots when the goal of my tactic is to play through the striker and other attacking players. Now we get a lot less 1-v-1 shots that are blocked or miss, and a lot more through ball attempts and passing around the opponent box. I added it to both wingers and my striker.

  2. The easiest place to start is by asking what your formation looks like now. Are you planning on using Busquets there or someone like Frenkie De Jong? Or are you further along and have different players than the default Barcelona squad? Busquets is slow, can't dribble and is more of a cookie cutter DLP, but Frenkie could absolutely play this role.

In general though you're asking the Regista to be your primary string-puller so you'll want runners ahead of him. Mezzalas or Box-to-Box midfielders, IF/IW on the wings. For width I would say WB or CWB but you'll have to manage these roles as too many runners and a Regista will leave you prone to counter attacks. If you're willing to accept the risk of counters then you can be aggressive with these roles and set a high line with offside trap and Ter Stegen as an aggressive Sweeper Keeper.

For balance though you could try something like:

    Ter Stegen (SK-S or SK-A)

    Alba (WB-A) Pique (BPD-D) Lenglet (BPD-D) Roberto (WB-S)

    De Jong (REG-S)

    Pjanic (MEZ-S) Busquets (DLP-S or CM-S)

    Fati (IW-S) Griezman (CF-A or AF-A) Messi (IW-A)

That would give you roles that like to run and Busquets can play more of a stationary role in midfield and feed Messi on the right. That's what I would start out with at least. Good luck!

  3. I'm a Milan fan and play with them mostly, and am not the best at explaining how tactical instructions operate within the match engine, but here's my two cents:

    - With dual MEZ's and a BWM you don't have anyone tasked with running the midfield. Kessie will look to win the ball back and lay it off to his midfield partners with simple passes but both of his partners are seeking to operate forward and out wide, putting a lot of strain on him as a less-talented passer. It would be beneficial to set up the central midfielder as a holding midfielder and have two runners operating next to him (I would use Bennacer as a DLP-S or DLP-D in the middle and have Hakan MEZ and Kessie - BBM or something else less likely to get caught up field). If you like having Kessie as a BWM-D then you could try Bennacer as a RPM or AP-S and give him more freedom to move around more, but that would take some tweaking to find a balance that doesn't leave you vulnerable. Personally I've found that Kessie is an almost unstoppable BBM (as most are in these games) and he currently has 17 (!) goals in my save.

    - Both of your wingbacks are set to operate in the same wide spaces your Mezzalas will seek to be operating in, since that position naturally seeks to operate in the half spaces/wide. I have not found situations where inverted wingbacks work within my formations but I think you either need your wingbacks to push inside in that role and have the MEZ's run outside of them, or have your midfield not look to operate in the same spaces. You've got two sets of players seeking to run wide and are essentially leaving Kessie on an island. Your TI of "play through the middle" also does not mix with multiple players seeking to play on the wings. Additionally with such advanced wingback play and the naturally advanced play of the Mezzalla role your flanks are risk of being caught up field.

    - Paqueta as a F9 is probably a waste of his abilities and inhibits your formation as he could be the playmaker needed to link your runners if you played him in his natural CAM position as an AM-S or AP-S. This would also make more sense with your "play through the middle" TI as you will actually have a dedicated playmaker in the middle of the park to run things.

As I said I am not the best when it comes to fully implementing TI's / PI's / Roles in ways that fully work as intended and make sense within the match engine but this is just from my basic understanding of the player roles.

Thanks. I have never managed to make a Mezzala do well in a 433 system.

    I see now that you’re playing FM19 ???

Yep but I would imagine this should play well on the newer ones as well. With Calhanoglu and Krunic I use AP-A but if things start getting stale I'll switch one of my wingers (usually Bernardeschi who I got on loan from Juve) to an AP-A and then change my central midfield to CM-A or MEZ-A with Kessie. The idea is to always have a playmaker pushing the play with runners around him going forward. Since Zlatan is slow I use a low tempo and short passing. The playmaker will look to find the wingers and/or overlapping wing backs and then the end goal is to find Zlatan in the box. When I sub Zlatan out or if he's hurt then I use Leao as an AF and try to play quicker with more direct passing. It'll take some tweaking though.

  5. Wasn’t me mate, I’ll post mine today. As for the left wing question, it hasn’t really come back to bite me very often. Having a consistent possession and pressure system has kept things pretty tidy. I ended up accepting a great offer for Calhanoglu ($30m + 40% future profit from Bayern) so I’ve had other guys play that left CM spot as either AP-A or Mezzala/CM-A and it still works pretty well.

  6. I've been able to find great success with a 4-3-3 with a Regista:

    Zlatan (DLF-A)

    Rebic/Leao (IF-S), Saeleamakers (W-S)

    Calhanoglu (AP-A), Kessie (BBM-S)

    Bennacer/Tonali (Regista-S)

    Theo (CWB-A), Romagnoli (BPD-D), Kjaer (CD-D), Calabria (CWB-S)

    Donnarumma (SK-S)

Zlatan currently leads the league in goals and has around 33 total in 35 games. I've never been good at making 4-2-3-1's with a central AM where Calhanoglu should be, but having him run from deep as a AP-A from the central midfield spot has worked well. I have both wingers and wingbacks set to "Cross Aim: Target Man" so that everyone is looking to Zlatan, just like Pioli's Milan. Kessie and Calhanoglu chip in (around 15 goals between the two). It's been working very well and my side is top of the table in March.
