I started unemployed and got a job with Hemel Hempstead in the National League South in October or November 2023. I started with the lowest reputation - Sunday League Footballer.
All my press conferences say "Only 1 journalist in attendence. We have however got national attention" (or words to that effect). Eh?
Whilst I was unemployed I was being asked about jobs that weren't really realistic.
After steadying the ship we finished just outside of the playoffs. In season two we won the league.
In season three in the National League we were favourites from the offset yet all the media coverage was about the prospect of us battling relegation and then being surprised to be doing well. "Nobody expected you to be doing so well" etc.
I've moved to Wycombe now who are midtable in League 2. I've just played my first game which was in the FA Cup and we won, going through to the 2nd round. Media comment in match result "The League Two side are seen as having an outside chance of winning the competition" (the FA Cup...). Sorry, what?
Manager movements seem a bit unusual to me, might just be me but find it hard to fit into my imaginary FM world:
Michael Carrick has taken over Tranmere in League 2 - seemed odd given he had such a great season with Middlebrough season one, two was bad, but his stats are great. Reputation 2 star - makes sense but IRL I find that odd.
Valerien Ismael is a very highly rated manager but after managing West Brom, Besiktas, Watford he has chosen to go to Bradford City in L2.
Alex Neil has dropped down two leagues to manage Walsall.
Paul Heckinbottom drops from Sheffield United to Dag & Red in the National League.
Emma Hayes usually ventures into the mens game granted, but chose to take over at National League Newport County.
