An FA Cup Semi Final you say?  Sounds fun.

An action  packed month as the season nears its end.  A very good performance at home to Manchester City was followed by an even better one away in London as we stuck 4 past West Ham in the first half.  Didn't really turn up in the second half, but who cam blame them?  We couldn't repeat this feat against Chelsea but a last minute screamer from backup defender Quinn earned us a point against Spurs.  We couldn't repeat the feat in the semi final at Wembley but we returned to form at the end of the month, beating Everton and Manchester United

Another decent month if I say so myself.  A goal from an unlikely source in defensive midfielder Boeve saw us overcome Portsmouth before a hard fought match at Anfield ended in defeat.  We bounced back strong, sticking 4 past Norwich with youngster Encinas scoring on his debut.  We then secured our passage to the semi finals of the FA Cup with a win over Blackburn

An unbeaten month!  Been a while since one of those.  A red card for James Wright saw us down to ten in the first half against Sheffield United but we showed our quality be putting 2 past them in spite of our weakened side.  We then comfortably beat Derby away from home to continue our good form before fellow mid table dwellers Blackburn prevented a 100% month

Another solid month as our form returns.  The youth team got past Dagenham to progress in the Cup before the prodigal son returned with a last minute winner against Southampton.  We fell to defeat at West Brom before we dispatched their Midlands rivals Wolves with aplomb.  An early goal got us past Bristol before comfortable progression in the 4th Round against League 1 Forest Green.  Shame to lose to Burnley mind.

Well this is certainly looking a lot better.  An away trip to the other side of the country brought us a worthwhile win with a late double salve from Castro and Maria bagging us all three points in East Anglia.  We accepted defeat at home to Liverpool and but was disappointed by our away defeat to Blackburn with McKee picking up the late consolation.  We licked our wounds by beating Derby with a late penalty but the late winner couldn't be repeated at Ashton Gate as we dropped 2 points to struggling Bristol before coming out of nowhere to beat Arsenal in 2 minutes

Well that certainly is an improvement!  Didn't look like much of an improvement initially as we found ourselves 4-0 down at St Mary;s but we mounted a small comeback to recover pride.  We did something similar against Wolves but actually managed to grab a point at Maria pounced on a late opportunity to share the spoils.  A good Arsenal side put us to the sword in London before we welcomed another Londoner, with a player who I gave a debut to in League 2 bagging he last minute winner!

First up, the traitors.  Almost £20m for Thornton is incredible.  4 goals and 3 assists last season wasn't bad, but we were never getting more for him than £19m.  Knight came through the youth intake and left us immediately, Warman also never payed for us and just netted us cash.  We made some money on O'Kane and Carter by shipping them out.  Great stuff.

A shocking start and a pretty decent end.  The festive season started horrifically with 3 consecutive league defeats, with two of them very disappointing.  A 3-1 away defeat to Norwich is poor considered previous results this season.  We kept it tight against Chelsea but threw away a lead at Blackburn.  We almost got into the next round of the League Cup but just couldn't match them in the penalty lottery.  This draw with County seemed to inspire an upturn in form, as right back Dan Ford of all people popped up to secure a win against Watford before a fantastic performance from our wingers saw them bag 4 goals against Bournemouth.  The end of the month saw a lovely trip to the south coast to collect three lovely points

Another solid month!  We were on a hiding to nothing going to Old Trafford and I was happy to leave with a 1-0 defeat, we even had chances to draw!  We then hosted Notts County and Daryl Petty went to town, proving he was worth the £10m we paid by bagging a hat trick to grab us a huge win.  A good performance in Devon ensured progression in the League Cup before another trip north brought us a draw at Goodison

What.  A.  Start!  After a long absence from the top tier we returned with a bang, humiliating Wolves on Monday Night Football as we smashed 5 past them before going away to last season's Europa League finalists Cardiff, scoring 2 late on to grab maximum points from our first 2 games.  We weren't quite as good at Turf Moor as despite grabbing 2 goals we slipped to our first defeat of the season as our defence fell to pieces to allow Burnley to score 4.  We went to Wolves and proved how much better we were beating them twice in the opening month with Maria's first goal before Martyn Thornton's late winner saw us overcome Leicester in dramatic fashion

  22. SEASON PREVIEW

    1200px-Stoke_City_FC.svg.png

Its our first Premier League campaign for years, I've been given money and boy do we need to spend it

    Transfers

    Out

    Out.thumb.PNG.ca06a9bef591dca9017aa46bc7e43991.PNG

£40m brought in for our season in the big league to reinforce our budget.  Patrick Colgan was overshadowed hugely by David Hayes last season only managing 7 goals.  Eric Ashby is a youngster who complained so we let him go whilst Kabiru, Simons and Wilson just weren't good enough anyomore

    In

    In.thumb.PNG.abc0f8691053ce54dbf9a67fa1f81731.PNG

There's a definite theme here with our signings as we targeted younger players from smaller clubs such as Wigan, St Mirren and Leeds

    Wessel Boeve

    1858105508_WesselBoeve.thumb.PNG.853249c6fe3fd33c75bc537c28465ad0.PNG

Its Wessel!  He's back!  The best midfielder in the Championship is ours as I've brought the Wigan holy trinity back together at last here at Stoke.  Straight into the first team with you Wessel

    Ed Baker-Harrop

We met this guy's release clause and we're trusting him hugely with such a big fee, straight into the team in place of Kabiru

    Callum Allan

Another player brought in from a relatively small club in Allan to partner Baker-Harrop at the back

    Martyn Thornton

    Jesus Maria

TNS somehow reached the Champions League group stages and Maria was a huge part of that

A Welsh left back called Neil Taylor?  Sounds familiar.

  23. SEASON REVIEW

    1200px-Stoke_City_FC.svg.png

A fantastic season as we won promotion back to the Premier League after a 5 season absence, just about managing to pip Blackburn to 2nd in the final few games of the season in spite of the board selling one of our best players in Scott Flint.  Academy prospect Kyle McKee stepped up and showed he was good enough to help push us over the line, even scoring on the final day!

    Awards and stats

    Awards.thumb.PNG.64c676643fd6ac25e142190fb894d7ed.PNG

Andrew Paterson was a surprising winner for Player of the Season, but he was key in getting promoted with 37 league appearances.  Petty and Hayes deservedly came close and in my view Petty should have bagged the award with 11 goals and 11 assists.  Hayes bagged signing of the season though

    Stats.thumb.PNG.e72abf17797b1f9b20ba1e590e7e93dc.PNG

Hayes was top scorer, bagging 16 goals and Paterson did grab himself the best average rating.  Petty was key, with most assists and most Player of the Match awards.  He was a great signing.

A very good end to the season as we went unbeaten in our final six.  We seemed to have lost against Hull when they took an 86th minute lead, but David Hayes struck even later to restore parity.  A shaky 1-0 win at QPR gave way to a comfortable 3-1 win at home to playoff chasing Bristol City before everything ground to a halt away to Sheffield Wednesday.  David Hayes continued his good form against Brentford and youngster Kyle McKee bagged his first goal away at Birmingham.  But was it enough?

We're up!  David Hayes' double against Brentford sent us up as Blackburn endured a poor end to the season, winning 3, drawing 1 and crucially losing 2 key games to send us up
