  1. MAY Last month of the season Results Just two games but with the same goalscorer as we close out the season with a defeat in Nottingham but a victory over League Cup winners Cardiff League Table Not bad
  2. APRIL An FA Cup Semi Final you say? Sounds fun. Results An action packed month as the season nears its end. A very good performance at home to Manchester City was followed by an even better one away in London as we stuck 4 past West Ham in the first half. Didn't really turn up in the second half, but who cam blame them? We couldn't repeat this feat against Chelsea but a last minute screamer from backup defender Quinn earned us a point against Spurs. We couldn't repeat the feat in the semi final at Wembley but we returned to form at the end of the month, beating Everton and Manchester United Game of the month Everton 2-3 Stoke City Threw away a 2 goal lead before a last minute winner from former Toffee Hayes, lovely. Player of the month Darryl Petty I don't get how he's doing so well League Table Solid
  3. MARCH We're pushing back into the middle Results Another decent month if I say so myself. A goal from an unlikely source in defensive midfielder Boeve saw us overcome Portsmouth before a hard fought match at Anfield ended in defeat. We bounced back strong, sticking 4 past Norwich with youngster Encinas scoring on his debut. We then secured our passage to the semi finals of the FA Cup with a win over Blackburn Game of the month Stoke City 4-1 Norwich City Goals goals goals as we dominate the Canaries Player of the month Wessel Boeve He gets better and better League Table If only we hadn't had that horrendous start to the campaign
  4. FEBRUARY We're really hitting form Results An unbeaten month! Been a while since one of those. A red card for James Wright saw us down to ten in the first half against Sheffield United but we showed our quality be putting 2 past them in spite of our weakened side. We then comfortably beat Derby away from home to continue our good form before fellow mid table dwellers Blackburn prevented a 100% month Game of the month Derby County 1-3 Stoke City Neil Taylor scored a cross! League Table Solid.
  5. JANUARY Transfer fun! Transfers Out LAFC have a lot of money In Scott's back! He's back from his American exile at a fraction of the price, they haven't ruined him too badly Results Another solid month as our form returns. The youth team got past Dagenham to progress in the Cup before the prodigal son returned with a last minute winner against Southampton. We fell to defeat at West Brom before we dispatched their Midlands rivals Wolves with aplomb. An early goal got us past Bristol before comfortable progression in the 4th Round against League 1 Forest Green. Shame to lose to Burnley mind. Game of the month Wolverhampton Wanderers 1-2 Stoke City The dominance! Player of the month Scott Flint The prodigal son! League Table Pushing our way into mid table
  6. DECEMBER Can the festive season turn our form around? Results Well this is certainly looking a lot better. An away trip to the other side of the country brought us a worthwhile win with a late double salve from Castro and Maria bagging us all three points in East Anglia. We accepted defeat at home to Liverpool and but was disappointed by our away defeat to Blackburn with McKee picking up the late consolation. We licked our wounds by beating Derby with a late penalty but the late winner couldn't be repeated at Ashton Gate as we dropped 2 points to struggling Bristol before coming out of nowhere to beat Arsenal in 2 minutes Game of the month Stoke City 2-0 Arsenal Over in 11 minutes through an inspired Daryl Petty show Player of the month Daryl Petty He's coming back League Table Climbing up the table
  7. NOVEMBER We've started to turn things around Results On the face of it, 2 points from 3 games is pretty bad, but I think its acceptable when you look at our opposition. A solid performance away at Manchester City saw youngster McKee bad another goal for the club coming in off the wing, we bored everyone in attendance against West Ham before being comfortably beaten by Spurs League Table Not out of the woods yet
  8. OCTOBER We need to move on from that dreadful month Results Well that certainly is an improvement! Didn't look like much of an improvement initially as we found ourselves 4-0 down at St Mary;s but we mounted a small comeback to recover pride. We did something similar against Wolves but actually managed to grab a point at Maria pounced on a late opportunity to share the spoils. A good Arsenal side put us to the sword in London before we welcomed another Londoner, with a player who I gave a debut to in League 2 bagging he last minute winner! Game of the month Stoke City 2-1 Chelsea Our late fightback saw Chelsea sack their manager Player of the month Thomas Maguire A breakout month for the Irishman League Table That's better
  9. SEPTEMBER A tough month ahead as we face some big clubs Results Not a great month. In fact a very bad month as we lost all games. A poor performance away in South Wales saw a resurgent Cardiff out us to the sword before a solitary goal saw us fall against last season's champions Notts County. We couldn't hold on in the League Cup and put in the worst excuse for a penalty shootout I've ever seen before wilting in the sun against a surprisingly decent West Brom side Player of the month Jesus Maria At least he's trying League Table Not looking great
  10. AUGUST Let's see if we can carry on last season's goodness Results Not the greatest start to the season as newly promoted Sheffield United broke away to grab an undeserved winner. We exorcised our demons by battering Burnley and came close away at Manchester United, falling by a solitary goal. We struggled to overcome Blackpool in the League Cup but id in the end but our poor form bled into the game against Everton Game of the month Stoke City 3-0 Burnley Should have had more Player of the month Ed Baker-Harrop A decent month League Table Not great
  11. SEASON PREVIEW Our second season in the Premier League will be just as tough as first, we don't have much money to build with and the squad is pretty slim, we got lucky with injuries and suspensions last time around Transfers Out First up, the traitors. Almost £20m for Thornton is incredible. 4 goals and 3 assists last season wasn't bad, but we were never getting more for him than £19m. Knight came through the youth intake and left us immediately, Warman also never payed for us and just netted us cash. We made some money on O'Kane and Carter by shipping them out. Great stuff. In Only 2 brought in for the first team, lets meet them Wright can play well in both midfield and on the wing. He's immediately the best player at the club, very much worth the £29.5m In on a free to replace O'Kane who went for £5m, good business Expectations Seems doable
  12. SEASON REVIEW An excellent return to the top flight as we narrowly missed out on the top half, finishing in an impressive 11th in spite of dire pre season predictions! Let's see the aftermath of that Awards and stats Max Dean bagged himself Player of the Season with over a third of the vote, with our Hungarian wonderkid Hompot in second, newbie Baker-Harrop was third. Baker-Harrop also got himself signing of the season, with January arrival Castro netting Young Player of the Season Jesus Maria banged in 16 goals in his debut top flight season, Max Dean is just amazing and was top on assists and average rating, sharing the most player of the match awards with Maria. Pretty much the team every week Former clubs Merthyr Town Finished 14th in the Vanarama South, back where they were before I took over Wigan Athletic Were somehow relegated to League 1, great job guys. Around the leagues Notts County won the Premier League, with Bournemouth, Leicester and Watford relegated. Sheffield United, Bristol City and Derby were promoted from the Championship, with Wigan, Wrexham and Charlton dropping to League 1. Barnsley, Bristol Rovers and Ipswich were promoted from League 1, with Peterborough, Burton Albion, Cambridge and Hartlepool suffering relegation. Plymourh, Shrewsbury, Blackpool and Maidenhead won promotion from League 2 with Fylde and Warrington going into the non league. Chester and Newport returned to the Football League with Farnborough, Wycombe, Gateshead and Solihull Moors dropping to the regionals, they were replaced by Scarborough, Spennymoor, Wealdstone and Eastleigh. Tottenham won the FA Cup while Notts County won the League Cup Werder Bremen ended Hertha's dominance of the Bundesliga by winning the league, Baarcelona won their first La Liga in 6 years, PSG won their 12th consecutive Ligue 1 and their 18th of the last 20 while St Johnstone won the SPL. Tottenham won the Champions League, Liverpool won the Europa League and Notts County won the Europa Conference League
  13. MAY Just 3 games left of the season Results Just 3 games to end the season and this is pretty much what I expected. A simple victory over Burnley followed by a pasting in Nottingham. The only surprise was the fantastic draw to end the campaign, which should have been better as we took the lead twice Game of the month Stoke City 2-2 Manchester United Should have won, two odd scorers for us Player of the month Martin Hompot He's just getting better and better League Table Our draw on the final day handed Notts County the title
  14. APRIL Mid table mediocrity suits me when it nets us £50m Results A mixed bag of results to match the mixed bag of opposition! A huge performance saw us grab the win at home to Liverpool but Citeh were far to clinical for us as they finished both of their chances with aplomb. A solid home win against West Ham bagged another 3 points but a topsy tury performance saw us fall to relegation threatened Leicester in disappointing fashion Game of the month Stoke City 1-0 Liverpool Could have had more! Player of the month Jesus Maria After a slow start, Jesus really has come into his own League Table We ain't movin
  15. MARCH We'll be fine Results Well then. Not a great month, humiliated at Chelsea, draw at Norwich and another defeat in London. Not great. Player of the month Neil Taylor They were all pretty bad League Table Not moved despite a rubbish month Other news Some young lads turned up at the club, some of them were decent
  16. FEBRUARY Looking on course for a mid table finish, I'd be happy with that Results An ok month I suppose although all 4 games were pretty winnable. Cardiff have impressed in the cups but been poor in the league so to lose at home was a shame. Castro put us ahead at Molineux only for them to peg us back and go on to grab a trio of goals for the win. We had a friendly and stuff turned around as we went to just north of London to beat Watford 2-1 with a solid first half performance whilst we welcomed Blackburn and had the game wrapped up in 13 minutes Game of the month Stoke City 2-0 Blackburn Rovers Over in 13, it'll do Player of the month Nicolas Castro He's not bad is he? League Table Looks like we're staying up
  17. JANUARY Transfers! Loans and a youngster sold Not many came in, but a player for the future in Hutchinson and a first teamer in Castro We somehow got this guy for just £5.5m. I don't now how. Results What a start to the month! A big win over West Brom looked like an early highlight but we certainly bettered that at home to Manchester United in the cup! A magnificent 5-0 set us on our way to... a winless run as back to back draws were followed by back to back defeats as another 5-0 dumped us out of the cup Game of the month Stoke City 5-0 Manchester United Need I say more? Player of the month Nicolas Castro What an opening month from the Argentine artist League Table Fine as long as we stay up
  18. DECEMBER An action packed month with both league and cup action Results A shocking start and a pretty decent end. The festive season started horrifically with 3 consecutive league defeats, with two of them very disappointing. A 3-1 away defeat to Norwich is poor considered previous results this season. We kept it tight against Chelsea but threw away a lead at Blackburn. We almost got into the next round of the League Cup but just couldn't match them in the penalty lottery. This draw with County seemed to inspire an upturn in form, as right back Dan Ford of all people popped up to secure a win against Watford before a fantastic performance from our wingers saw them bag 4 goals against Bournemouth. The end of the month saw a lovely trip to the south coast to collect three lovely points Game of the month Stoke City 4-0 AFC Bournemouth Our wingers converted as we put on a clinic Player of the month Martin Hompot Our homegrown Hungarian is coming into his own League Table We're looking really good
  19. NOVEMBER We've been incredibly solid thus far Results Well we've hit our first stumbling block, but to be fair 4 points from Manchester City, Liverpool, Tottenham and West Ham. We took the lead twice against Citeh which made me proud and a draw against them is pretty good going for us. To go to Anfield and only lose 1-0 isn't bad either. A bit disappointing against Spurs as we didn't lay a glove on them but we righted that against West Ham, with academy product McKee bagging the late winner Game of the month West Ham United 1-2 Stoke City Youngster Kyle McKee the hero Player of the month Max Dean Really coming into his own after a poor start at Stoke League Table 17th or above
  20. OCTOBER A surprisingly decent start to our top flight campaign, can we keep it up? Results At least we didn't lose? Some games that I saw as winnable considering our good form so far but it was all for nothing as we settled for a bore draw with West Brom, our early lead at Arsenal was fun, but we lost it soon after before coming from behind at home to a Southampton side who we managed to embarrass at St Mary's Game of the month Southampton 1-4 Stoke City Even red cards can't stop us! Player of the month Jesus Maria He's getting better as we gel League Table Still looking good
  21. SEPTEMBER An unbelievable start, it can go on like this, can it? Results Another solid month! We were on a hiding to nothing going to Old Trafford and I was happy to leave with a 1-0 defeat, we even had chances to draw! We then hosted Notts County and Daryl Petty went to town, proving he was worth the £10m we paid by bagging a hat trick to grab us a huge win. A good performance in Devon ensured progression in the League Cup before another trip north brought us a draw at Goodison Game of the month Stoke City 3-1 Notts County Daryl Petty take a bow Player of the month Daryl Petty Fantastic League Table European push?
  22. AUGUST We're in the big league and I'm scared. Results What. A. Start! After a long absence from the top tier we returned with a bang, humiliating Wolves on Monday Night Football as we smashed 5 past them before going away to last season's Europa League finalists Cardiff, scoring 2 late on to grab maximum points from our first 2 games. We weren't quite as good at Turf Moor as despite grabbing 2 goals we slipped to our first defeat of the season as our defence fell to pieces to allow Burnley to score 4. We went to Wolves and proved how much better we were beating them twice in the opening month with Maria's first goal before Martyn Thornton's late winner saw us overcome Leicester in dramatic fashion Game of the month Stoke City 5-0 Wolverhampton Wanderers Incredible. No other words. Player of the month Ed Baker-Harrop A great opening month League Table Amazing
  23. SEASON PREVIEW Its our first Premier League campaign for years, I've been given money and boy do we need to spend it Transfers Out £40m brought in for our season in the big league to reinforce our budget. Patrick Colgan was overshadowed hugely by David Hayes last season only managing 7 goals. Eric Ashby is a youngster who complained so we let him go whilst Kabiru, Simons and Wilson just weren't good enough anyomore In There's a definite theme here with our signings as we targeted younger players from smaller clubs such as Wigan, St Mirren and Leeds Wessel Boeve Its Wessel! He's back! The best midfielder in the Championship is ours as I've brought the Wigan holy trinity back together at last here at Stoke. Straight into the first team with you Wessel Ed Baker-Harrop We met this guy's release clause and we're trusting him hugely with such a big fee, straight into the team in place of Kabiru Callum Allan Another player brought in from a relatively small club in Allan to partner Baker-Harrop at the back Martyn Thornton Brought in to replace Flint Jesus Maria TNS somehow reached the Champions League group stages and Maria was a huge part of that Neil Taylor A Welsh left back called Neil Taylor? Sounds familiar.
  24. SEASON REVIEW A fantastic season as we won promotion back to the Premier League after a 5 season absence, just about managing to pip Blackburn to 2nd in the final few games of the season in spite of the board selling one of our best players in Scott Flint. Academy prospect Kyle McKee stepped up and showed he was good enough to help push us over the line, even scoring on the final day! Awards and stats Andrew Paterson was a surprising winner for Player of the Season, but he was key in getting promoted with 37 league appearances. Petty and Hayes deservedly came close and in my view Petty should have bagged the award with 11 goals and 11 assists. Hayes bagged signing of the season though Hayes was top scorer, bagging 16 goals and Paterson did grab himself the best average rating. Petty was key, with most assists and most Player of the Match awards. He was a great signing. Review Budgets and expectations Lovely Attempt to stay up. Seems doable. Former Clubs Merthyr Town Finished 9th in the Vanarama National League South, just 5 points off the playoffs Wigan Athletic Eddie Howe guided his side to a 19th placed finish in the Championship Around the leagues Manchester City won the Premier League, Brighton, Swansea and Sheffield United were relegated. West Ham, Stoke and Blackburn were promoted from the Championship with Middlesbrough, Sunderland and Aston Villa being relegated. Fulham, Boston and Nottingham Forest were promoted from League 1 with Tranmere, Fylde, Grimsby and Crewe going down. Bristol Rovers, Cambridge, Hartlepool and Stockport were promoted from League 2 with Exeter and Port Vale relegated. Telford and Sutton were promoted to the Football League with Guiseley, Basingstoke, Kidderminster and Chorley going down to the regionals. Harrogate, Bradford, Worthing and Hendon were promoted to the National League. Tottenham won both the FA Cup and the League Cup. In Europe, Manchester City won the Champions League, Bayern Munich won the Europa League and Tottenham won the Europa Conference League. Hertha Berlin won yet another Bundesliga title, PSG won another Ligue 1, Rangers won the Scottish Premiership and Real Madrid won La Liga
  25. APRIL 6 games from the Premier League. Results A very good end to the season as we went unbeaten in our final six. We seemed to have lost against Hull when they took an 86th minute lead, but David Hayes struck even later to restore parity. A shaky 1-0 win at QPR gave way to a comfortable 3-1 win at home to playoff chasing Bristol City before everything ground to a halt away to Sheffield Wednesday. David Hayes continued his good form against Brentford and youngster Kyle McKee bagged his first goal away at Birmingham. But was it enough? League Table We're up! David Hayes' double against Brentford sent us up as Blackburn endured a poor end to the season, winning 3, drawing 1 and crucially losing 2 key games to send us up
