You don't actually need to save scum to win in this game, most of it feels like click and win anyway, It's not like Frostpunk or Xcom on hardest difficulties, especially for players that playing this game for 20 years.

You just said the thing you where against earlier... "you can self impose rules on yourself to play the game more realistically" ...

Its a self imposed rule to not save scum. Its allowed to save scum and its possible without mods or cheats...

Why do you contradict yourself? "to say or do something that is opposite or very different in meaning to something else that one said or did earlier."

  2. There are so many aspects to this game.  But winning matches is VERY easy.. its like 100% guarantee if you just reload every time you loose you will always win. Save/Reload is a function the game has buildt in, its not a cheat. Why not use it to your advantage? Same goes for long term injuries, just reload when it happens.

It's like bringing your own salt to a restaurant. It's SI's job to make the game playable and challenging for all kinds of different levels of players.

Not using Save/reload is like bringing your own salt too.. If SI made a Iron man mode then it would be a valid way of playing.

  3. When someone has been in England, Scotland or Ireland for 3 years during their youth they have "home grown in nation" listed as their home-grown status in Wales... BUT not when it comes to Euro cup 2 or champions league.... Its impossible to sort after players I can buy and use in champions league. My only option is to grow my own players it seems..

What do you think about it?

And is this issue fixed in FM23?

I have about 25 players listed as "Home grown in nation" (3x U21 players) and yet only 8 of them has the little blue "HGN" next to them in the default view.

  4. I am on FM20 and I have had the option for the player to play for the whole duration of the injury. It has been a hand injury each time. They are injured for a bit longer and doesnt recover as fast between matches but they can play once a week or 3 matches per month at least. I think its very useful and better than sending them to a specialist. They become orange injured for the whole duration of the injury.

  5. Hi, I have a very good striker who doesn¨t seem to turn up this season. I tried talking to him after a bad match about his perfomance and I tried to rest him for a few matches. He wins a lot of headers but never seem to be on target this season. What do you do in this situation?

Here is my tactic if that matters, its the same as last year, only real change is that I have a inverted winger on the left side very often. Jak Makel plays winger attack and the new winger John Fogarty is inverted.

I am 5 points behind TNS and they never seem to loose any points... they have lost against me once and had one draw this season (I also lost against them once)

    Thanks for any advice!

But the game doesn’t play as expected.  Firstly, my ‘blitzing’ D (C) doesn’t move from his D (C) spot.  Other tests with other positions have shown me that “mark specific position” is ignored if the chosen position is too unorthodox.  The frustration is I don’t know the rules.  Things like “more disciplined”, “tight marking”, and mentality make a difference.  Two AM (CL/CR)s will split to mark WB positions on defensive but not cautious, for example.  And I don’t know how tactical familiarity and teamwork affect this (I’d be quite happy to start a save where scouts look for teamwork only!).

Secondly, the man-marking only works with minimum team pressing, player instructions to mark tightly, and opposition instructions.  Even then, players often get distracted by opponents closer to their set position.  Now, players being late to follow runs is exactly how I want this tactic to concede goals – it’s meant to be the weakness of man-marking –, but I’m talking here about players not looking at the right man even after the ball is in the net.  Also, I’m worried going zero pressing will impede the pressing traps I am trying to set up with the ‘blitzer’ and opposition instructions.

I thought man marking was related to corners and free kicks. It might be useful to have a tall player man mark a tall opponent player. And it might only happen during corners and free kicks? Do you think that is a good idea?

  7. The way I understand it; If you mark a possistion, the same position will still be marked after a substitute or if 2 players swap positions on the field. If you man mark a player, you will not mark the new person that replace him when he is subbed off. And you will mark him wherever he is on the pitch, even if he is moved from striker to defender during the game.. I might be wrong.

  8. I agree, In fact I will not buy a new version of the game before this feature comes. I hate that they removed it from the game. (I play FM20 currently and hate that this is removed there as well)

You are able to do so in FM19. I have played FM19 a lot and I could place a advert for assistant manager too see if I found a replacement without sacking the current one. I hope they add this feature back into the new version of the game too.

The wording seems to tell me that for this away friendly, I'd be PAYING £7,500 and RECEIVING £1,200 in return. As it's not clearly reported in the Finance tables, I'd rather not take the risk!

When I arrange friendlies like that the 7500 "fee" is ignored, and you earn 1200. I have had the exact numbers myself infact.. Sometimes it says 7500 in Fee and 7500 as income, in any case you can always ignore one of the numbers. It only appears as income after the match, you never pay a fee as an away side in friendlies.

  10. Rest vs Recovery - Are there any benefits from right-clicking a player and choosing to rest him the day after a match? Will he miss out on the light green "Recovery" training? Sometimes during a interview, I click that "a rest is well decerved" and they skip the recovery.. Do you wait until the day after recovery before you rest players? And do you rest your best 11 at all? I have 2 matches per week for 8 weeks in a row and 3 important matches in a row saturday - wedensday - saturday, Is it a good idea to rest players? Thanks for any advice!

  11. Thats a genius idea! Thanks for creating it, it looks very neat and a good guide! What do you think of my schedules? Do lots of orange bars mean better training and more improvement as long as they remain fit for match?

I am using this schedule during the pre-season (while playing Euro Cup 2 Qualifiers)

And this is my normal Schedule I use almost every week with a single match during the season:

    Season 8 - 2026/2027 - Euro Cup - Group Stages (3rd)

    Squad - Key Player

I have been taking lots of breaks from playing this year. I have played a season now and then. And I forgot about the forum and didnt post a update. But I am back with a update. I just finished season 8 in this save and it was a tough year. TNS is impossible to beat sometimes. I lost too them 3 times this season and drew against them once. I even bought one of their best center backs during january to try and weaken their side but it didn¨t seem to have an effect.

    The League

I have won the league 3 times now. And I only have one real opponent. The other teams can barely win against me. I play the reserve and youth players against many league opponents now. I am more interested in european competittion at the moment. I hope I can reach the group stages this summer.

  13. In my experience the Home team always pays the "income" too the away side team.. If you play away against them you get the 28k... if you play home against them you get gate reciepts and pay them the 28k. I usually play away friendly matches as a semi-pro team because of this. I play FM20 if that matters. --From your screenshot, you earned some gate recietts/Ticket sales from the match played at home, and payed 28k too the other team.

EDIT: The "income/fee" that you earn is always listed as "OTHER" under income tab like in this screenshot:

  14. In lower leagues I would use less fancy possitions. Like forget inverted winger and ball winning midfielders.. Id use regular full backs on support, wingers on support and normal midfielders on support. It might look a bit "boring" but the players might be able to do the one thing they are good at on the pitch with more freedom and less instructions.

  15. I manage STM Sports in wales in FM20, I did not edit the database or anything. the rules might be different for me but in practice: The player must have one of the highest wages at your club or one of the top earners in JD Cymru Premier, OR he has one of the highest transfer fees in JD Cymru Premier. Since most transfer fees and wages are very low in the league, It should not be a problem if your a top 3 club.

Look at the middle of the picture, need 4 points total to get work permit.

  16. One question popped into my head; Why are some amounts better than other? well amount of matches per season, and how many times per year you meet the other teams.

I think it need to be at least 10 teams. Irish Premier Division has 10 teams and I like that league very much. They play 36 matches per season, meeting eacother 4 times a year (9*4=36).

I also like 16 teams like in Norway, that way you probably get 30 matches per year and fewer weeks with 2 matches in a single week.

Im currently managing STM Sports who was disbanded and quit playing in real life, In Wales. They have 12 teams and 32 matches per year. Its a very fun way to play and challanging because of the low level and forcing of youth in the match squad.

Why do you think 18 or 20 is good? what is your reason behind it? Is it anything other than amount of matches per season, and how many times per year you meet the other teams.

  17. I think squad status and expected playing time only refers to league matches. In my experience they need the amount promised in league matches and they don't care about or consider cup matches at all,, Even European competition is counts for less then league matches.,, only fringe players and future prospects stay happy with cup matches but they might still demand a league match now and then.

EDIT: also important: They dont consider how often you have matches.. if you have 10 games/matches in august and a star player only plays 6 of them he might become unhappy that he didn't play Monday, Wednesday and Saturday 2 weeks in a row.... I dont know whats better between becoming unhappy or just injured in this situation.
