  1. Just something that I've noticed recently since I've kept xcel sheets for my players throughout their seasons. The stats I have on my spreadsheets don't match up with what is being shown in game. I have one player that should have 5 goals displayed on the "History" tab but it only shows 3. Is there a way for the game to log in the correct goal and assists? Is it an issue that persists as the game goes later in time (it's the year 2043 in the save I'm highlighting in this post).

Also it seems like the game stops recording the first half of the season and starts fresh with the second half of the season (after the Winter Break) in terms of keeping track of stats; again specifically with goals and assists. Can anyone shed some light on what I'm missing or what's going on?

    Thanks!

  2. I’ve had success with going from a 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3 to a varied 4-2-3-1 with the wingers dropped back on the flanks of two defensive mids, 1 mid ahead of the DMs and the striker on a shadow striker role or pressing forward.

I then do what others have suggested, hitting regroup, slow pace down, lower the tempo, Disciplined and Dribble less. Lowest I’ll set the mentality is balanced. If I’m very panicky I’ll hit defensive lol

Thanks, this is now with our team and under review. These sliders work correctly after the international transfer window is open in the middle of February, but we will look into why it is not possible to adjust this earlier.

Sounds good man. I appreciate the feedback and help 👍

Thanks, I've closed down that thread and copied the information into here as it will be dealt with here. In addition to uploading the save file, could you please let us know what the save file is named so that we can locate it in our SI Cloud Server? Thanks!

    It’s just called “LAFC”.

Thanks for bringing this up, if you upload your save file using the instructions below, we'll take a look into this. Thanks.

    Will do. Thanks 👍

Edit: Made a thread in the Bugs forum under the "Transfers, Contracts etc" section. I uploaded the save game linked in the template you provided. The link to the thread as well.

    https://community.sigames.com/forums/topic/552811-cannot-buy-down-salary-cap/

Summary:  In MLS I am unable to buy down the salary cap of some of my players on my roster, but for others I can. I have plenty of GAM available and the season hasn't started either (haven't hit the registration deadline).

Description of Issue: I can only buy down the salary cap of some of my players but cannot do the same for others. The option to "Buy Down Salary Cap" appears on certain players, and once I click that and navigate to the sliding bar where you adjust how much you want to buy down, the bar is locked to the left and won't slide at all. The salary amount is shown below the bar (the max you can buy down) but it won't let me actually buy it down. The season hasn't started either and I have plenty of GAM to do so, so I'm wondering if it's a bug because I never encountered this before in this FM or previous ones.

Steps to Reproduce: Head to the Squad page, then registration and make sure Major League Soccer is selected, then sort the list by salary (with highest being at the top). Afterwards just work your way down the list of which you can buy down and which you cannot. I had to do a bit of Editor work to adjust the salaries of some of my backup players to get within the salary cap but there's others that I don't want to do that to. If it really is a bug then I rather bring it up and hope it gets fixed as opposed to using the editor because I feel like it takes away from any accomplishments in the game.

I uploaded the save to ownCloud.

  6. For some reason the game won’t let me buy down the salary cap on most of my players on the roster. I have plenty of GAM available and the option to “Buy Down Salary Cap” is available, but for some reason the sliding bar is locked to the left as if I already used it or something. It even says the amount I can buy it down to which is half of their regular salary, but it won’t let me buy it down. Is this a bug??

Also, the season hasn’t started either.

  7. I found out recently that they both had the trait “Fairly Inconsistent” (the orange one). I gave them both plenty of minutes in the first team but I’ve had enough and released my winger and managed to snag a Brazilian with great technical skills and speed on loan.

As far as my striker goes, he’s young. Only 20 years old and has great team work and work ethic plus a solid soccer brain so I’m not gonna write him off entirely yet. I figured him coming from the Argentina league would result in him banging them in upon landing in MLS. He has been making key passes and starting to pickup assists so all hope isn’t lost for him. Fortunately my wingers and midfield are scoring consistently enough to where I’m gonna trust the process lol

  8. I signed a striker who scored 18-19 goals last season and a winger who scored about 15 as well. Side note, there was a 2 month stretch where my striker didn’t score. That’s where my winger came in with his 15.

There was very little turnover in the off season so I was anticipating my two top goal scorers to start the season with a bang. Man was I wrong.

Since the match schedule showed about 2 months of straight away matches (lol) I focused on defense in the preseason. The past two seasons we’ve been very leaky, having one of the worst defenses in the league lol but the focus on defense seems to be paying off as we’ve managed mostly draws with a couple wins sprinkled in thanks to set pieces. The problem is that my Dynamic Duo can’t score off of clear cut opportunities. I mean GOLDEN chances. They both have the trait Ability to Strike a Ball or Clinical in the Box (the one that shows up in your scout reports, not PPMs), but they’re missing absolute sitters.

In the beginning I was supportive saying I know you’ll get back to your scoring ways and that I have faith in them. Nothing changed except they seemed to get worse so I issued a warning, followed by loss of wages after more consecutive poor performances. Water bottles were thrown and I even transfer listed them hoping to spark some sort of fire in them. Well the following match my striker scored a brace and my winger got a goal in the next match. But damn! It’s frustrating when your tactics create those golden opportunities but your players don’t finish!

Was wondering how you guys deal with players that have been at the club for atleast 2 seasons and underperform even tho you know they have the proven ability to do better than what you’re seeing.

That's interesting. Another fellow mentioned the Anchor Man problem… Definitely will look to test other roles.

It happens! I said mainly against the same team because is fresh in my memory (3 defeats in the same season, with the same kind of goals). But the 3rd GIF I'm playing against another team, for example.

They really were, mate. Sad for me!

Let us know how it goes!

  10. This is my advice as a layman, but something that stands out to me is there’s a good chunk of space between your 2 DM’s and the Treq. In my experience the Anchor man doesn’t do much in terms of pressing the ball, and I never used a Volante(?) to know how that role functions. The Treq doesn’t do much defensive work either, so my argument is that you have a sizeable gap of space for the opposition to operate out of.

You mentioned it’s against the same opponent. Does this type of goal happen often against other teams? If it doesn’t and only that team pulls that particular type of goal off, then perhaps they just have your guy’s number. If it does happen often against other teams, then maybe changing one of those DM roles to a Half Back or BWM? That way you have a player that presses that area closing down the ball to put pressure on the opposition.

I have to admit, those finishes were 👌

Player ratings can often be misleading in FM, so they don't necessarily reflect how good or bad a player actually was in a match.

If a player is doing what you want and expect from him - and if you are pleased with your team's results and performances overall - I would suggest you simply ignore this (nominal) statistical data.

For some reason missing headers will tank your ratings. At halftime check to see what your players are doing right or doing wrong with the Player Stats. Are your fullbacks not successfully crossing? Are they missing their tackles? What about headers? How’s their passing? When I see a low rating for my players I take a look at those ingame stats to get a better picture of what’s going on and where to adjust.

Go and have a look at the USA in the League Specific Issues part of the site bud, you'll see the issues. Main one being AI do not know how to register a squad so end up with 10 players and have to field greyed out players.

Well I’m aware of the rules and such. In FM19 (still playing it) the AI fields some solid teams. Mainly they use their DP slots well. I’m guessing in FM21 they went downhill?

Close range finishing is really bad for me. Even players with high finishing attributes like Messi love to smash the ball into the defender instead of picking out an open spot in the net. While Goalkeepers are no longer as OP in FM20, defenders seem to turn into prime Baresi whenever my striker takes a shot.

    Anyone else having this problem?

    This is discouraging :(

  14. Hello. Managing in MLS is a challenge (a good one in my opinion). One issue that I find myself encountering every season in MLS is the lack of a division II league or an academy league as well.

In the US, MLS and USL are separate from each other. But some MLS clubs do have teams in the USL. For example the Galaxy have Galaxy II and the Portland Timbers have Timbers II. Not every club has one but perhaps an option could be included to create one if your club in MLS has their finances sorted out. Another option would be to make it to where if you have a USL team as an affiliate, then you can make your players available for USL matches to increase their fitness and sharpness for your first team matches. Many times in MLS (in game) the players who are deemed your backups end up finishing the season with their match fitness so low that they end up dropping off in attributes and morale. Injuries are more harmful in MLS due to the fact that you have to choose between the Disabled List (which prevents them from playing in 5 matches even after they’ve recovered from injury) or Season Ending Injury List when a player has a serious injury that’ll take them out for 3+ weeks. Being able to have them play in USL (or div 2) matches just to maintain their fitness would be so much more helpful and overall better for managing in that league in game. It’s something that’s already available in numerous teams in European leagues and it could be implemented in the MLS via those two options without breaking realism or being too far fetched.

One last feature would be an actual academy league/U-18 league for the MLS clubs that have academies. European clubs have youth leagues that you can use to develop your youth and send your first team players to increase their fitness as well. Each MLS club in the game already has an academy, adding a league to it would be a helpful and cool feature as well.

I won't be buying the game unless the MLS gets properly tested so that teams aren't going into the season with a roster of 10 players. Enough points about this have been raised on this website but just get ignored.

I wish they’d integrate the USL more with MLS clubs. Like how Galaxy have Galaxy II and Timbers have Timbers II etc. That way we could have a waaaay easier method of getting our players match fitness up so they can play instead of going out of our way to arrange friendlies and sit through another match after match day and risk injuring our back ups as well.

An academy youth league would be easier. Nothing crazy or specific. Just a general U-18 league for our academies.

If FM21 had those two things I’d buy it for sure.

I can't see those screenshots you provided (opens me just blank imgur links), but by salary space you mean on league salary cap? Maybe you pushed your payroll budget to limits or even over it, so board imposed you salary restrictons? Try adjusting something from transfer budget into payroll? I played a lot at MLS (LA Galaxy), and only times I had restrictions on how much I can offer was when I made payroll havoc.

So I did what you suggested and it worked! I still wasn't able to offer a DP contract, but I was able to offer my prospective DP a Senior contract with DP wages (10k) plus a big sign on bonus of $400k to seal the deal and got it over the line with GAM. I still have a DP spot available, but I got my striker so I'm happy. Probably should've went for my left footed Argentine but I'll settle with my Frenchman! Thanks man!

  17. Hello,

So I'm managing in MLS (LAFC) and recently one of my DP (Designated Players, marquee signings aka Zlatan, Rooney etc) left to Everton. This opened up a DP spot (max of 3) as well as salary room. I used the GAM (General Allocated Money) from the Anselmo (my Brazilian striker who left to Everton) sale to buy down the wages of some players to free up a sizeable chunk of salary space (roughly $20k free). Here is when I run into problems that are gonna force me to end the save right then and there. I don't want to end it because I'm enjoying the challenge of MLS and am on my way to establishing ourselves as a dominant force in the league and the region as well (3 CCL titles!).

When I open up the contract discussions with the prospective DP, it won't let me offer a Designated Player contract. I do have 1 DP spot available, the Squad Registration menu confirms this. If I'm reading the Budget Info overlay in the contract negotiations menu, I definitely have more than enough salary space to make this signing possible. I even tried signing a different player and I run into the opposite problem! I can offer a Designated Player contract but it won't let me pay him DP wages! It says I can't sign because of board restrictions but I don't see anything in the Board, Finances, or Club menus that say I cannot sign young players. One of my actual philosophies is to sign young players!

    Can anyone help me please??
