  1. Tried something slightly different.

I'm playing with 2 mezzala and 2 IW. On one side mezzala attacking and IW supporting, the other is the opposite.

Switched the striker to advanced forward and pressing the defense do open space for the mezzala and iw. The striker is Haaland now and he has 20 goals in 12 matches, but this guy scores in any tactic id say.

I play wide with short passing and I'm seing now very nice short plays, with the main threat being the striker and the attacking Mezzala. Maximum width is a must for me, and having a very good passing team, retaining possession isn't hard even with the players very far apart.

The IW on attack seems better, but still not happy with Fati goal rate. He's scoring like 2 goals in 10 matches.

I'm winning now, improved the team, which helps, but there's room for improvement.

  2. Thanks for the input, but that leaves my left side a bit exposed and didnt see improvements.

I've tried 2 Mezzalas on attack paired with 2 IW on support and it kinda works, but still cant get much from the wingers and the main threat still the Mezallas. It's not bad, but my wingers are better scorers than the midfielders.

I've seen some people having sucess with the poacher, could it work? He'll drag the centre backs deeper and open some space.

  3. I've started a save with Barcelona (boring I know), and im doing kinda ok, even with the team being kinda limited.

I'm happy with the defence, happy with the midfield and controlling the game, but my forward trio isn't working that much.

My best scorer is the Mezalla, with some very good runs using the free space between the AMR and Striker.

I was expecting more from the AML, but i just cant get it to hit the spot and be a main goal threat.

I'm happy to receive your suggestions and help!

  4. I like this game a lot but the pressing and passing between CB's is a killer.

Im playing with Barcelona, using possession tactics and I had a few games where i won by 5 or more goals and my possession was below 35%.

The worst game was one against R. Sociedad. They had a 5 back line and 2 DM and managed 75% possession and 0 shots all game, spending most of the time passing between the defenders.

Even with Much Higher LoE my players where unable to trouble their defenders.

If you ignore that, the game is very good.

This is unfortunately it, yeah. If you have a gander at some of the bug tracker threads you'll see CBs are regularly completing 100+ passes each at close to 100% completion.

I trust it'll be fixed before release but right now your best bet in terms of possession is probably pressing high with a formation that has more players in the striker and AM strata than the AI has CBs.

    Feeling the same problem.

I've seen too much passing between defenders withouth real pressing, even with a higher LoE and higher pressing.

This happens with my team, but mostly with teams that sit deep.

I'm playing with Barcelona and won my first 15 matches with confort, including a 4-0 against Atletico Madrid. They had a lot of possession in their defence the whole match, even when they should try to attack,

I'm finding very easy to retain possession in the defence, even for weaker teams. Levante had 65% possession against me despite losing 5-0. Even with 1-0 they barely tried to attack, they just kept cycling the ball between their back lines.

The rest of the ME is very very good, but this part feels kinda bad, mostly if you watch compreehensive highlights. I feel that if i could just play low tempo and short passing in order to avoid suffering goals.

  6. I've made some tweaks, but i'm still barely creating any chances.

My first save is always with FCPorto, with a more direct play style an it's way easier, but possession tactics for some reason aren't working for me.

I've lowered the tempo in order to give the WB time to join the attack, changed de AMR to Treq because the IF goes forward too quickly.

I'm having lots of possession but the attack usually end in crosses, which is almost the opposite of what i want.

The midfield combo feels weird. The mezzala gets in the area a lot. Would an AP work here? Or 2 playmakers would be too much?

The left side seems fit for an overload, would that help?

This match was the perfect example. The goal was from a set piece. Apart from that, 0 chances.

Possession-friendly TIs are not going to help a lot if your setup of roles and duties is not set up in a possession-friendly manner. Because the setup of roles and duties is the most important part of any tactic or tactical style. Instructions are effective only when they match the setup of R & D.

What kind of changes would you suggest for improving this setup?

The main ideia is getting a line of 5 when attacking with the MC feeding them.

So you are Barcelona, you will be facing teams that will defend narrow, sit deep, and wait for your attacks. And you will attack, with a very high D-Line, with the wide players very high up in the pitch, with both midfield players getting into the box... leaving poor half-back and both central defenders in the back,

You don't have anyone to recycle the ball when you are in possession, so i'm not surprise that you are having difficulties to score, and are conceding opportunities for your opponent to counter attack you.

I suggest that you change the out of possession instructions to something less agressive... perhaps higher D-Line, standard LOE and more pressing. Change your RPM(s) to a DLP(s) so that, in combine with the HB(d) you'll get two players in the back to recycle possession and change one of the Wingbacks to a support duty.

    Something like this:

    DLF(s)

    IW(s)                                       IF(a)

    DLP(s)         MEZ(s)

    HB(d)

    WB(a)      CD(d)      CD(d)      WB(s)

    SK(s)

Now, for the in possession instructions i don't understand the idea of having much shorter passing, with POOD with WBIB and narrow width. On top of that you are also giving the TI to dribble less...  in a team like Barcelona that have excelent dribblers...

Anyway, i think your instructions are taking away the unpredictability style of play that a team like Barcelona should have, and have the players to play it. I would remove the WBIB, narrow width, dribble less and much shorter passing, and just go with the POOD and be more expressive instructions.

    Thanks!

I've tried more possession TI's because i was getting average of 40% possession, not controlling any game. Probably overdid it, but POOD  and Be More expressive wouldnt be a change from overkill to underkill?

I dont  want 60% of possession and 0 chances, but I'm looking forward for a short pass oriented build up with a fluid attack.

I have some doubts about narrow/wide. I want lots of central play, with the MC feeding both wingers when cutting inside. What would suit better? In my view, narrow would suit best against strong teams (easier to keep possession) while wide would be the option for narrow defenses.

Balanced mentality, PooD, shorter passing (1 notch to the left), Be More Expressive and Narrow is still too much?

I'm not sure about the left side, seems a bit conservative.

Gonna make a few changes and try it!

  9.

    Hey,

I've started a new save with FCBarcelona and couldnt be more frustrated.

I'm trying to play a somewhat agressive possession football, trying to emulate a 2-3-5 attack formation, with the wing backs very stretched and the wingers being the main goal threats with inside cuts.

The midfield trio should be the feeders, but somehow the mezalla+ RPM is not working as i expected. I've tried 2 mezzalas but this makes the MC go too much up the field. Also the DLF is kinda useless in scoring/assisting.

What happens most of the time is that we struggle against average and weaker teams, not having many goal chances and ocasionally conceding a goal in the counter.

The worst part are the big games, i was beaten 7-1 by Liverpool (even though LFC is OP) after getting a close draw in the home game.

I like to start the games with narrow + balanced, switching to positive/wide when dominating or cautious+lower tempo when being dominated.

    First eleven:

    Stegen

Roberto (stay wider) - Pique - Lenglet - Alba (stay wider)

    Busquets

De Jong (RPM) - Pedri (Mezz)

Messi (roam)- Griezmann - Fati/Dembelé (roam)

    Any hints to improve?

  10. My tactic is pretty much the same as yours.

    Defensively solid.

I feel i'm getting good results against top teams but struggle a lot against weaker sides, winning by 1 goal (many from set pieces and penalties) and not creating a lot.

My strikers are kinda useless too. Sometimes i put the AML as IF-A and the Striker as DLP-S or F9 but i'm still struggling a lot to score.

    Any hints?

Any suggestion about the CM roles?

This tactic does not look bad at all (although I don't know enough about your players).

Anyway, the first tweak I would try is - change the LB (Alex Telles) into FB on attack (or even WB on attack).

You can also consider removing the Prevent short GKD and applying the split block instead.

I have the split block already (5 front pressing more). Should i remove the Prevent Short GKD?

My AMR is the top scorer, does it make sense making him an IF and have 2 IFs? All my wide players are either IW or IF and i dont like using pure Wingers.

  13. I've been trying to make my 4-3-3 focused on possesion work, but all I have are draws and 1-0 wins.

I've taken ideas from some of the other 4-3-3 in this forum but it seems nothing works. The team lacks offensive power and though i'm not conceding a lot i fell that we're vulnerable to counters.

Im trying to stretch the left side and overload the middle right with good passing players. I've tried the B2B instead of Mezalla but it seem worse attacking wise.

    Any suggestions/critics?

After some time being a casual reader here i've decided to register to give my 2 cents about the current ME.

    Example.PNG

The image represents every game i'm a favourite., this one ended 1-1.

A lot of big chances, 1 on 1 with the keeper, easy tap ins missed etc etc. My goal in this game was a rebound after a penalty (there's just too many).

This happened against me this time, but i also managed a draw against City in a game i was totally trashed but they missed more than 7/8 easy goals. It's not fun playing this game once you see its flaws.

I understand the development work is not easy, and if you increase the scoring % you need to balance the number of chances created, but this game is released every year with only light changes, the core (being the ME) should be consolidated many years ago.

I'm putting my save on stand-by until a new patch that makes it fun, and deliberating wether i'm gonna keep buying this game or not.

The example i've told before. I'm playing with Porto and many of my key players were injured/suspended.

I got a red card early in the game and CIty created many chances, but they kept on missing one after the other. This is clearly a sign that the ME is programmed to make the results balanced by unbalancing the game as it keeps happening. I managed to score 2 goals from penalties, both after long balls from the CB (Pepe is not the greatest passer in the game) where the defenders acted like fools.

I'm not a master tactician or a FM genius, but i can see the flaws in the game. You can still thrive with great results sure, just exploit the flaws and have fun with it.

All in all, i still believe this is fixable and hope to have some fun playing this game.
