I've been managing Atherstone Town recently and managed to climb from Level 10 to Vanarama North. Unfortunately, at that point I had zero balance and my best players are suddenly wanting £500 p/w, but still my board wants me to reach the playoffs. So I'm starting again with Hallam who have the biggest crowds at Level 10.
I had a couple of ideas that might help a little bit:
- I managed to negotiate my own manager salary down from £525 p/w to £190 p/w, saving the club £17,000. Not 100% sure if that saves the club money or if that comes directly from the chairman's pocket? UPDATE: Manager wages definitely included in Staff Wages paid by the club
- cup replays potentially mean double revenue for the same tie - worth conceding to manufacture a draw or not worth the risk of missing out on the next round?
- Hallam has an affiliate club (Sheffield) who have agreed to play a friendly and we get to keep all gate receipts (income £9,000). Hoping I can play them multiple times but it might be a one-off. UPDATE: this turned out to be a one-off
- dominate the league such that youth players can be played in dead rubber matches to save on appearance fees - not tried this, may not be worth upsetting players?
