  1. @CleonI know the book is not about 442 box formation, but I have to say that this book (+old brazil five 10's, old box article) has really opened my eyes on how to defend with narrow formations. In the old article you had cm/su infront of roaming regista, because you needed some one to keep his place in the middle. In the new formation you ask AP/su to keep his position.  What I realize is that you could also do other way around too and let for example a carrilero to defend the flank and have dlp to sit on position.

I know this doesn't sound a lot, but really helped to create "invincibles" with Vieira in segundo volante role + Henry role as a raumdeuter. I'm now playing with asymmetric 442, because of your book.

  2. I just recently read cleon:s old topic about pseudo 442/433, which i been inspired by and could help you with your tactic.

my tactic is now something like this (i need to test with segundo volante and regista on roaming playmakers position, but it will come) . You could try to play with control and normal passing and normal tempo. Its quite high, direct and flexible to emulate manu.  Other option would be counter with high tempo and pass into space.

Other thing that you could try would be passing shorter and high tempo. I wouldnt go to much higher line/engagement, if i want to try to emulate old Manu tactic, but it can be used occasionally to put pressure on better teams.

I first played with the same tactic, that cleon created, but it wasnt defensively as solid as i hoped and i could not press as i wanted. I still managed to get everton to place 3rd and second on my first two seasons.  Hope this old topic will help you!
