Box to Box also tried a BWM. Do you think my midfield duo is the main issue?

Struggling with this system. 1st season was decent, finished 8th and Bayern Munich knocked me out of the German cup.
I want to play a gegenpress attacking style. I feel like I'm massively underachieving, got some good wonder kids who suit this tactic and the roles etc but feel like i need some advice. Going forward not to bad, in the top half for goalscoring in the league. I do feel like that could improve even more, as the team isn't creating many chances. Majority of goals being long shots or set pieces. Defensively woeful.
Any tips welcome, cheers.

I’ve had a rethink after what you’ve said. The style I want to play is fast attacking football. I’ve not played a game using this tactic as I wanted your opinion. I know the left side of my team is very attacking with FB (A) and an IF (A). The only reason I want to try this is with IF (s) he never seems to perform when he’s a good player with good finishing so I want him to try and get into the box. The FB (A) is better at going forward than Defending with great pace and half decent crossing. I felt like I needed one of my midfielders to cover that left side therefore I’ve put a BWM (D) as I want him to cover the FB (A). Do you think this could be better. It’s more going forward I had a problem with last season created the lowest clear cut chances in the league. On the right side would you change the winger (A) to potentially an IF or Inverted Winger. Any ideas ?

Okay thank you! Should I start by looking through Serbia I believe that’s a good nation to look at. I find the world/transfer/youth intake method too long. I’ve got a few on my shortlist from a team in Paraguay

I’m in my 4th season with Wigan and want to find some good regens. I’ve found a couple that my scout has recommended me but they’re far to expensive! I’ve watched a few tutorials on YouTube but wondering what’s the most effective method?

I’m going into my 4th season with Wigan and I feel like I need to tweak my tactic. I’ve played the 4-1-4-1 DM Wide. It’s been really successful. First season I finished 10th when I was tipped to go down. Second season I won the playoffs getting into the premier league. Last season (3rd) just stayed up on the last day of the season. My main issue with the previous tactic was my wide players. Throughout the whole save my Winger (r) on Attack has been brilliant always chipped in with goals and assists. On the other side I’ve been playing an IF (S) and he hasn’t performed but because the team was playing well i stuck with it. Would this change work? From IF (s) to Winger (s). My team had worst crossing and low down on completed dribbling ratio. Any feedback welcome. This is the system i would like to stick with possibly have a 4-2-3-1 as a backup one. Cheers

I need some recommendations for my Wigan team. I’m on a low budget but want to try get some good young players. I need an IF right footed to play on the left. Winger right footed and a right back and a goalkeeper. Any recommendations welcome

Yeah I’ve tried about with playing IF on the left in Anthony Pilkington who’s a good player lacks pace. I may try that again and use less instructions like Experienced Defender has suggested. A difficult one for me to weigh up as we are playing well, 13th in the league and I’m trying to think could I get much more out of a Mediocre championship team.

See my thinking probably doesn’t make sense and that’s why it’s not working. As I want a style that’s mixed but effective, like I don’t want to be route one direct get balls in the box, I want to try and play nice football with an effective end product. My fullbacks on both sides are a strong point to the team they are both great at getting forward and defensively I’ve been good all season. Do you think removing overlaps would effect the fullbacks performances?

I’m in my first season with Wigan, my results aren’t too bad and I’m quite content with how the save is going but I feel like a could do with a bit of tactical advice to help me get the best out of my wingers. The style I’m trying to play is short passing but progressive. I’d like the ball to be going outwide and try to be delivering into the box. Any tips welcome?

I have quick wingers who are average at best, a decent target man for championship level. A good midfield in terms of winning the ball back but average in terms of creating chances. My back up striker is a decent pressing forward as well as my wonderkids which I’ve not found his best position

Yeah pF is what I’ve had most joy with In fm20 and the striker I want to play long term has got some half decent pf stats.
What’s the key stats for a target man to do well?

Yeah we do have some good attacking fullbacks which suits the system I’m using. Unfortunately Robinson, my best left back has been injured since the start of the season, just coming back to fitness

Which role is best suited to a 4-1-2-3 DM Wide? Currently playing with a target man on attack with 2 wingers, one on support, other on attack. The Target man striker is playing badly and scored a couple but I want to fit my 17 year old wonderkids who’s also homegrown. He doesn’t suit a target man role as he’s not tall. Someone has recommend that a retrain Joe Gelherdt (17 year old) as an IF could that potentially work with Moore (TM) ?

Yeah I’ll definitely give them players a look a remember looking at Campbell in my previous save. I may retrain him as an IF but Moore is 27 and has only scored 3 goals so I may try change the system a bit maybe even play 4-4-2

Yeah I’m going to do that with Gelherdt, currently I’m playing a target man upfront and it’s working okay I’m midtable so I’m bringing him of the bench and making sure he plays for the youth teams. Hopefully soon I can give him regular starts. I’m in my first season in November. This is my 4th different save with Wigan as I get frustrated when it’s not working and try to do a new challenge but so don’t enjoy football manager without doing my favoured team. I’m going to have more patience this save and I think with the advice I’ll slowly progress and hopefully achieve promotion.

Also I’ve got one player named Joe Gelherdt who is the best academy Player Wigan have probably ever had, hes 17 and hes already asking for 8k a week. The main thing is you have to have 1 academy player in your matchday squad so I’m unsure on what to do!

Okay thank you both for your help I’ll certainly try them tips. Is there any other leagues you recommend me looking in? Your bang as well with the youth, every single fm since 08 I’ve done Wigan as that’s my team I support and never ever have I had a decent academy player. I want to improve the academy but the board don’t let me for financial reasons.

I think my wage budget per year is £6M, so how can I bring that down but still improve the squad as my team isn’t good enough to get play offs or higher. I’ll try and move a couple of players on with a big wage. Would that help or do I have to something a lot bigger than just move some players on

See this is the annoying thing I don’t spend any money, I try and do little things what I’ve seen on the internet to try and be better financial but nothing’s helping. In the summer I could make close to £40M again by selling the same players I did first save.

This is my 4th attempt of doing my favourite team Wigan. The last 3 attempts have always stopped as by the 3rd season I have 0 money. The first time I tried Wigan this year I made close to £40M but only spent £6M. Apparently the finances of the club was still struggling. Is there anything I can do to prevent this occurring once again. Now I’ve tried doing different teams but I just don’t find it fun managing other teams.

The reason I’m against putting my defence line higher up is I’d say 80% of opposition chances were coming from over the top balls. I’m debating, do you think it’d be a good idea to put my Left full back on either (a) or as a wing back. If I was to put it on wing back do you recommend attack or support duty. Usually when I put wing back in a back 4 my defence seems to start leaking a lot more. Cheers

When i first come to Hertha I'd say certainly not but I feel like I've improved the team well enough to be getting Europa League. I think i am going to change style as of poor perfomances and only being mid-table.
