It's difficult to say without knowing more about the reasons why you are struggling, but just one small general suggestion - you might have a better balance defensively if you swap the central midfielders, so the DLP is on the left and the BBM is on the right.

On the right hand-side, the DLP has 'Hold Position', and the FB is more of a reserved role, whereas on the left, both the WB and BBM will get forward at the same time to support attacks.

With your current setup, you might be defensively exposed by counters when you attack down the left, particularly against stronger opposition in Europe. That might also not be helped by Counter-Press, which can be a risky strategy when you don't have the right players, or are not much stronger than the opposition.

    Thx for your reply.
Will try your advice out. My losses in the Champions League have always been small (vs. Arsenal 6-5, vs. Man City 1-0, vs. Chelsea 1-1, vs. Chelsea 4-3, vs. RB Leipzig 4-3).
Hope this little change will tip the advantage in my favour.

  2. My tactic is doing really well domestically (this season 87/96 points, 100 FOR/10AG)(no OI's).
In the Champions League, I'm struggling to get past First KO round(4x)/Quarter Finals(1x).

Used PPM's to create attacking patterns:

    -WB(su): Gets forward whenever possible

-DLP(su): Tries killer balls, likes to switch ball to wide area's, tries long range passes

    -IW(at): Gets into oppostion area

-W(at): Gets forward whenever possible, runs with ball down right

    -AM(at): Gets forward whenever possible, play's one-two's

-CF(su): Moves into channels, tries killer balls

Every tip and piece of advice is welcome!!!

Did you start playing them excessively before they turned 18? Are they on a large contract now? These are both factors that can severely impact hidden attributes - for newgens anyway.

    It's the contract. I indeed gave him a huge contract(from ± €250k/month to ± €650k/month).
Offered one my CD's also a huge payrise and after he accepted, some of his hidden attributes (ambition and professionalism) also dropped somewhat.

  4. Thx for the suggestions.
Decided to try and turn this guy into a CM. I use a 4411 with a BBM(su) and DLP(su) as CM pairing. Since a good BBM is hard to find in my save and I rotate alot, I'm hoping this guy will become a good choice as BBM. Doubling down on OTB in training and increase his workrate with fining if needed.
He has played 3 consecutive competitive matches as a BBM and rating so far is 7,10. Promising start.

The 2nd teams in Germany are playing in the lower tiers, and since they are not in the game, those games are only simulated "behind the scenes" and not visible in game. The only way I can think of is to download extended leagues that have those leagues visible and restart.

I know that if you don't arrange friendlies for your 2nd team, matches for that team will be simulated in the background. 1st team players that are made available for the 2nd team to gain sharpness, don't play in those matches.
My question is if you do arrange friendlies for your 2nd team, if it is possible to recieve a match report in your inbox from that friendly match like you get from the U19 squad(see image).

If the personality of a player is unambitious, low determination or temperamental I will mentor.  Without that, they tend to struggle to realise their potential.

    In summary:
-If a youngster with high potential possesses one of the above personalities, it's best to get them mentored ASAP(age 16). Maybe more attention to individual training?
-If not, stick with youth training untill age 19. Age 19 to senior squad, throw in a loan to other club if needed.

The more players you have in your senior squad, the higher work load you put on your coaching staff, so take that into consideration. But if you have a couple of really exciting talents they might benefit from mentoring groups if you move them into the senior squad and set them available for U19.

My first team training tends to be more match prep heavy (set pieces as well as def/att movement and match practice), so I only put an U18 prospect into my first team squad if they need mentoring.  If you are in Europe or indeed playing in a league with a lot of midweek fixtures, that will also reduce potential sessions for an U18 player - thus I keep them in that squad as much as I can.

TY both for some food for thought.
Seems like developing youngsters is not as straightforward as do Y at age X to get Z anymore.
Can you describe this need for mentoring that you mentioned? When do you choose mentoring over training?
