  1. Hey Herne, just dropping in to say this is one of the best threads i've read in a long time.

I've been obsessed with creating a 4-4-2 similar to yours for the past few editions and I've also found that the key is to focus on the areas both ahead and behind the midfield. The space in between the two banks of four is negated with relative ease by pushing the defence up and using 1-2 more cautious centre mids (like you have done), but a link to the forwards can be problematic (as you have also found out!).

I would usually end up either dropping a striker to AMC(L/R) or pushing up one of the wide men to AML/R. I've found this sort of formational staggering to be crucial in attack... not to say it can't be achieved using a flat version, just tended to use a similar workaround to you.

Using my current 4-4-2 with Aston Villa, the best way to manage this problem has been applying Very Fluid. Of course, as is mentioned in the OP, that leaves you less room for scope if you want to increase creativity later in the game. To tackle this problem, I start with "More Disciplined" and then remove it later in the game if necessary.

  2. lol this might make ya laugh.... the world cup final was played between England, and Scotland, with Scotland winning 2-0!!!

top scorer was pele on 5

top assister was Glenn Hoddle on 5

highest average rating was pele on 8.60

the only real surprise in the group stages was that spain finished bottom of thier group which had france and chile who qualified and south korea who finished third...

brazil got knocked out in the quarters by italy who lost to england in the semi's

This is another reason why this database is so much fun because there are about 16 national teams now who have a realistic chance in the international comps. Some of the possible starting 11 for the "lesser" sides are quite impressive (especially if they contain a star or two. Scotland is a great example with a team containing Dalglish, Law, Alex James, Jimmy Johnstone, Billy Bremner, Hansen, McNeill, Lennox, etc ...

  3. Hi guys !

I was just wondering if some of you who have played more than one season with this database could post what happened at the World Cup in your saves, out of interest. In my Wolves save, this is what happened in mine :

    Final : Brazil 1 (Didi) - 0 Hungary

Top scorer : Sandor Kocsis - 7 goals

Most assists : Johann Cruyff - 5 assists

Highest average rating : Denis Law - 8.45

NB : Brazil drew their first two games 0-0 and promptly sacked Télé Santana ! Carlos Alberto Perreira took over and obviously did quite well. England were knocked out in the group stage, from a group containing Denmark, Ghana and Costa Rica (hardly the group of death). Scotland only went out in the second round after losing to eventual finalists Hungay 4-3 a.e.t.

  4. Yes, i have a legends database (and pictures, too) for Football Manager 2008 made by me but it's not as accurate as the 2009 version...is it ok for your friend ?

That would be great ! Do you want to post here or do you want to send it to me personally ?

P.S. Database and player photos would be great !

  5. That's a good question. To be honest I have no idea why it happens; i've just noticed that suddenly garrincha get worst...and worst and worst o_O. So i checked his ca out on fmrte and in fact his ca dropped down from 185/190 to 170! To me that's just unexplainable...if anybody know what is this about please tell me !

Hi there Deus. I sort of found a solution to the problem for Garrincha as I've made him 18 in the game, deleted his past history accordingly and left him at Botafago, leaving him enough time to regain his PA. However, I don't want to move Maradona from Napoli so the problem still persists, even though I've got a feeling that part of the problem is down to the fact that they both have great physical (aerobic) stats which eat up a lot of their CA.

By the way, I was wondering, I don't suppose you've got a similar database for FM2007 or FM2008 as a mate of mine who doesn't have FM2009 would love to try something like this out !

  6. Hi there Deus, I've got a quick question for you. I haven't really started a game properly yet, just going through all the players and teams more than anything. However, after starting 3 different games I've noticed that each time after 2 or 3 months Diego Maradona and Garrincha have a very sharp drop in their CA value. Garrincha drops to a CA of about 170 and Maradona drops to around 180. Have you got any idea why this happens, as like I said it happens every time !

  7. I must admit that the only thing that bugs me with my new "barça '92 dream team" save is that Ronald Koeman and Michael Laudrup are black on the match engine ! This, however, I know is totally uncontrolable and impossible to change even using a 3rd party in-game editor, so in no way is this a moan !! Apart from that it's going great. I've kept the same players from the beginning and bought Romario from PSV for 30M and Overmars for 500k. The aim is to only buy players who have graced the nou camp, in order to keep it realistic. The transfer window did go into overdrive as you mentioned in your OP with players from smaller clubs joining bigger ones (Laurent Blanc to Real Madrid who hardly needed another world class player, Matt Le Tissier to Man Utd, etc). One other thing I was curious about deus84 was that you've given quite a few players who are between 24-26 years of age a difference of about 30 between CA and PA. For example player A will be 150 CA and 180 PA and because he's say 25 years old I'm afraid that he will never reach his full potential, despite intensive training. For that reason I've changed some of the players' birth dates so that they have more time to develop, but once again this for my own personal pleasure and kudos again for the great work.

  8. Absolutely fantastic work !! Just spent the last few hours going through the players and it's amazing the amount there are ! I've changed a few things all the same but that's just for my personal pleasure !

I improved freddie ljungberg's finishing which was slightly low in my opinion, gave tony adams a set determination as he came up with only 10 on my first loaded game, made emmanuel petit and john barnes left footed and increased ian wright's aggression. Apart from the that everything is very realistic so hats off to you son !

Oh and by the way you've accidently given velibor vasovic a photo of jean-michel larqué ! but that's just me being picky ! Once again great work.
