  1. Just wondering how everyone is managing around United's finances?

From the big earners, only Rashford, Bruno, Shaw and Mount remain. I can't sell Rashford, because only Arsenal are willing to bid for him.

Maguire and Lindelof are still at the club, but their earnings are 100k now, as I got them on smaller wages. I like keeping them around as neither is bothered about their play time, and it's just good depth.

I did bring in Reece James on 200k a week, and Diogo Costa on 150k, but I'm around 5th highest paid wages in the league, which is not bad for a club of this size.

Into my third season, comfortably ahead to win the league for the first time, and I've been given a 30m budget to work with and around 150k wages available.

Palace are 90% going down in my save, so Olise's 41m release clause is a no-brainer, especially since neither Rashford and Garnacho are creative wingers.

On top of that, Garnacho, Hojlund and Mainoo are looking for 250-300k wages with PSG sniffing around as well, so it's not looking rosy.

Osimhen is available on a free, but I'm not really keen on losing Hojlund.

    It's creating quite a dilemma.

It feels terribly unrealistic to get rid of every single high earner, and I'm never getting rid of Bruno. I'm still trying to keep up with British quotas, but also to keep an English contingent in the first XI.

Would be very interested to see the tactics for the city wins.

Ive been spanked 3 times so far in the first season 😭

I basically got very lucky. I scored 4 goals off 0.83 xG(Maguire with two headed in from a corner), while they scored 1 from an xG of 2.82. And it was a penalty at that.

It was a defensive 4-2-3-1, with 2 DMs, lower defensive line, lower engagement, to compact the space for them to play through, balanced mentality, direct passing at highest tempo. Hold Shape when ball is lost, but counter in possession. I kept play out from the back, because I thought it would help prevent long balling. I don't remember pressing, but it wasn't maxed.

Rashford left, Garnacho right and Hojlund upfront had pace to burn which helped in both games. My 1-0 was off a counter, scored by Rashford. Got battered in everything but the scoreline too.

It's not recommendable, because the defending in the ME doesn't really work properly, so sitting deep is never effective, other than through luck, but honestly, going at them makes even less sense than being battered by them, so I went with this.

Second season, I'll have a go at them though.

  3. So, just got done with my first season. Transfers disabled, so no incomings. We still feel a bit strong in-game, so I decided to play a more defensive style, starting with a 4-2-3-1 with two DMs who just shielded the defense. Focusing on absolutely parking the bus against big teams and ceding possession against most of the teams, while trying to catch them on the counter. It probably was more effective than I planned, as we beat City 4-1 with a 0.83 xG(Their first loss of the season), and in general seemed to hit teams too hard and fast for them to do anything. We conceded a few, but nothing too crazy and only two teams managed more than two against us(Real Madrid and Liverpool).

I largely thought I was battling for third or fourth place, with us battling Liverpool who couldn't stop drawing games, while Arsenal were 6 points ahead battling it out with City. While we then clicked into gear, Arsenal then lost 3 of their last 6, falling to pieces at the end(as expected) and a comprehensive victory over Liverpool in the last game secured us second place in what was probably a really good run.

Bruno(17), Rashford(21) and Hojlund(16) all managing  a really good goal count which contributed to our 100 goal tally.

Getting Madrid in the Round of 16 was unlucky and we just couldn't match them at home, but we somehow motored our way to an FA Cup win. The 1-0 against City was a game I should never have one, but it was a treat to steal the match from City(Again!)

In terms of transfers, I made one out and one in. Unfortunately, I had it with Varane earlier in the season who cost us a game with a terrible mistake then had repeated mishaps in the coming games. I had enough and used the Saudi interest to send him off for a handy 60m. Could have got more, but thought maybe that would be a bit unrealistic. Since we were playing a deeper defensive line, Maguire was pretty handy and popped in with a few goals from set pieces as well.

On the other side, Martial did not feature at all, and I needed a backup, so Toney came in as his ban was up for a pricey but necessary 43 mil. Not really got going yet, but I'm sure he'll be handy.

Onto the new season, and with Van De Beek, Martial and Sancho all not featuring in a single game for me, I have done my best to get rid. So far, we've been rid of:

    Van De Beek: 12m
    Hannibal: 15m
Martial: 0(Completing removing his wage was worth)
Sancho: Loan, but with mandatory 60m purchase
    Heaton: Retired
    Evans: Free

I still plan to get rid of Dalot, as he never feature much for me either. The freed wages getting Sancho, Martial and Van De Beek out is so much more refreshing to see.

Despite interesting in their services from Saudi clubs, I decided that I wanted to keep Bruno and Casemiro(despite poor performances), as it would be too much to fix in one window. Bruno is also part of the core players that I will never sell until they've past it. I'll probably give him a contract to lock that down soon. Bruno, Martinez and Shaw make up that core.

On the In side, I probably did more than I wanted, but this United side is in disarray. It's still a solid window, but I usually draw a line at 4 first team players max. So far we've brought in:

    Alex McCarthy: Free(Replacement for Heaton)
Michael Kayode: 32m(Too cheap to ignore, and won every U21 award in Italy, looks a great prospect. Also, hence selling Dalot)
Ousmane Diomande: 53m(Wasn't my first choice, but getting him below the release clause looked great business)
Valentin Barco: 8.5m(Signed him because he actually looks a top quality midfielder if he could be a little less one-footed)
Ismael Bennacer: 43m(Was chasing Calhanoglu and Lobotka all season, but 80m was too much for them. Bennacer is more mobile and can allow my midfield to be more dynamic. A good buffer till Mainoo develops)
Michael Olise: 35m(Release clause, replacement for Sancho. Form at Palace was worrying but will give him a go. Don't think Diallo can make it).

Still need a replacement for an ageing Casemiro, but that can wait another season. Still maintaining a solid net spend of under 150m, so I'm pretty happy with that. I got a lot of players at what I think are bargains for their quality and for good wage values(For now). Freeing up an entire 1m in wages between 4 players as well showed how ridiculously overpaid our squad was in the first place as well.

All in all, a really good start, the squad looks more balanced, and I'm looking forward to giving City a greater run this season. We'll also play more on the front foot now that my midfield is temporarily complete.

  4. Essentially, it seems the belief that FM players would be such imbeciles, they wouldn't notice the J-League would have licensing issues, and they could just gloss over it without even so much as a single announcement that this would not be the case(FM players must be too busy fawning over the new facepaint to notice).

Despite the fact that this was advertised as a "major feature", which now appears to be blatant misleading and borders on false advertising.

If the licensing hadn't been sorted beforehand, it should not have been announced as a feature.

There seems to be a very real precedent of apathy when it comes to bugfixes and issues, and a consistent pattern of not delivering on the 'features' that are promised. This has been the case over a couple years now. It's incredibly disappointing.

  5. Seems like I'm going to be joining you guys again for this one. Only after the Beta, though, so all the unhappiness and squad issues are ironed out. Will also be my first time playing us without licensing, which is, eh.
It's been a while, given I've been sitting on FM22 all this time. It's interesting to see what you guys are doing with the squad and what your ideas are. We look a convoluted mess in terms of team building.

I don't know about some of you, but reflecting my real life opinions on players is something I like to do. And our current squad is a bit iffy to me. Even players I quite like, such as Bruno, Martinez and Rashford, I find myself questioning their long term viability in a team that wants to be the very best. Case has lost his marbles quite a bit, Antony is very meh and so on. So far, the only locked in players I'm looking at to stay are Dalot(not priority) and Hojlund. Maybe Shaw. I'll see when I start playing, but I'm probably gonna completely refresh the squad. Establish a home grown contingent , keep the at least 1 academy player in the team every game(amazingly, we've managed this since forever), and build a team from the ground up.

Obviously, gonna be a little harder since my go-to in Rice is gone to Arsenal and the likes of Maddison in the opposite direction.

As for Greenwood, well that's what the delete button is for. I'm not bothered to deal with that headache.

Good luck to all. Hopefully we can give ourselves a little bit of that feeling of our old successes. :D

Found them incredibly hard to play against. Had them in group stage lost both times 1-0 and 2-1 I believe their 4-4-2 seemed impossible to break down a counter attack -_- . Ronaldo being Ronaldo was the one finishing the goals of course and out of nothing to which made it a harder result to swallow as we dominated the play in both games

He had a habit in both games of smashing in at least one, but I managed to keep him pretty quiet. Sandro, ironically was their most dangerous player in both ties.

After that and his real life move I decided to pick up Ronaldo at the end of the season, especially since I'm opting out of purchasing FM22.

The man is a monster!

    Capture1.thumb.PNG.d05ad74b6d844a3b05bf42dda93c595d.PNG

I actually bought him with the intent to play him in my favourite CF role(Complete Forward), but he has a very strange habit of dropping in like a False 9 and moving back into the box too slowly, which is not utilising his goalscoring skills. It seems to be a Ronaldo problem because neither Martial, Cavani nor Greenwood do the same thing.

But as an AF, he is unstoppable. Goals from everywhere!!

Seems to have made the ones around him monstrous as well. Both Marcus and Bruno really turned it up.

Kinda insane the numbers they're putting out. I'm only in February.

  7. Speaking of sending offs, I had this match the day after our Young Boys debacle.

CL Group Stage match to determine who tops the group.

    Kl.PNG.aecdea9c8083a9af07acc9bbc7f833cc.PNG

Their first goal was a bit flukey as we battered them. But we took the lead and seemed set till the sending off.

Made a few changes that didn't work and we conceded(I insisted on keeping a striker on). I relented after and took Martial off for Matic, leaving Bruno as the furthest forward. Seems to have worked out in the end. Good 'ole Slabhead hit a screamer.

@Chapman7 cheers yeah he’s almost identical to FM19’s first database in that screenshot, definitely waiting until FM22 if I want full “Shawberto Carlos”!

I’d expect a big bump in Natural Fitness. On FM19 Francesco Acerbi - who survived serious cancer, which you would think has an effect on your longevity - has 20 whereas Shaw got a serious contact injury and then was called fat by his manager yet has been as low as 8. A rare occasion of a PL player not perhaps being overrated.

On the topic of this, I really just buffed him in the editor before starting my save.

I tried to keep it realistic, but still had to consider he's arguably the best LB in the league.

Initially, I just boosted his PA, so he'd gain a little more, although it didn't make much progress(he became a pretty well-rounded LB though. But, after my save broke due to wage demands becoming unrealistic, I've restarted and boosted his attributes in general.

  9. Haven't played this in a while due to a broken laptop. Going back to it in a week or so.

Have there been any new updates or fixes?

I speak mainly about the match analysis tools after a game.

Sometimes I want to analyze the movement of a player I'm testing in a role, but the heat map just shows me a faded blue I can't even see. So no idea can be got from there.

Then switch to the "Passes Received" tool, only to find its a convoluted mess and giving me unselected players' names.

    Surely this was fixed???

  10. Incredibly irritated by some of the changes to player attributes in this update.

Yes, yes, I know I'm a Man United fan, and I might have bias, but changes to a few players constantly baffle me.

This, in mind, while Kalidou Koulibaly continuing to have the attributes of a "strong physical, non technical(stereotype much?)" type player while it's well known by watches and by his stats that he's one of the best ball playing CBs around.

Back to the club I know well, though, Marcus Rashford receives downgrades to his PA despite putting up his best numbers? Hes putting up insane numbers of goals and assists despite being slightly out of form? Doesn't that mean his full potential is quite high for a player in form?

Mason Greenwood, at 19 has struggled a bit this season, but that is largely overblown because of how good he was last season, with 17 goals in a debut season, but gets a downgrade? Despite being 19?

Aaron Wan-Bissaka gets a massive downgrade despite being almost exactly the same player, with the same kind of form as he showed last season.

Shaw'd upgrade is so minimal despite being one of the best LBs in the league this season.

A balancing of Bruno (who still gets a downgraded attribute), despite his numbers being utterly insane for a year now. But no, he gets a minimal increase.

I would understand if it's Telles, De Gea, Martial(who should have been significant), Lindelof, Matic, even Cavani or James.

Liverpool ratings did not take such an attribute hit despite being quite well below par this season. I'll look at a certain Trent Alexander Arnold whose downgrade is nowhere near the state of AWB. And yet one maintained form, the other is out of it, but the player who maintained gets the massive downgrade.

I'm actually trying to be slightly objective, but this is just insane.

It's almost FIFA levels of ludicrous.

I really find some decisions regarding the changes in stats or CA/PA ... confusing at least, like few points being knocked of Rashford, Greenwood or Bissaka.. OK Greenwood is out of form, so you might roll with

Kinda baffling to be honest. We've had players like Leon Bailey hold their PA for more than one edition, despite never showing that level, but Rashford gets nerfed despite his numbers being seriously good and Greenwood is still a kid with a little bad form.

I've honestly never seen SI seem so reactionary.

  12. Something that is awfully bothering me has been the attribute distribution of Kalidou Koulibaly.

Last season, in reality, he's defensively was not at his peak, scoring quite low on defensive and aerial duels per 90, meaning he showed a few defensive weaknesses.

His positional awareness was also not great.

This was, to be fair, a bad season for him.

In FM, he's quite a monster in this regard.

However, also in reality, Koulibaly was second only to Skriniar in terms of passes per 90 for a defender, and was at the top of defenders in the league in terms of ball progression.

This has been prevalent throughout his rise in stature in the game.

And yet in FM, he is more on the average side technically.

Despite being regarded as a highly technical and composed defender.

Not so long ago, he was compared as the best defender in world football behind Van Dijk.

This annoys me greatly, because he's been rated in the same manner for a past few FMs, despite reality being contrary, and what annoys me about it is that it just feels to reinforce a stereotype that exists and continues to exist.

Tall, big and strong, but lacking technically, despite not being that sort of player at all.

Its very frustrating that these sorts of minor transgressions keep appearing.

  13. There's a seriously poor double standard that is continuing to exist for transfers, and has been ramped up this year.

AI clubs make one single stupidly low bid, and your player is throwing his toys everywhere, because you've rejected it.

Even if you reject, there's absolutely no room for negotiation. They want that player far below his actual value.

On the other hand, a player you've scouted and showed interest in all season long and tried your best to unsettle at an infinitely smaller team in a league below is unwilling to budge and will not push for a move at all, while they're asking for double the price, and unwilling to relent.

Its a massively poor standard on this in FM21.

By the way, it's getting really annoying when players start asking for new contracts when they have many many years left, some even with 4 years. I do understand that sometimes when they perform really really well, they feel they deserve better contracts, but it's burning through my wage budget of 6 million. Luckily 99% of the time, I can ask my captains to take care of it.

I don't see players with the same/better quality at other clubs asking for crazy amount. Is it a bug or is it a curse of playing for one of the richest and biggest club in the world?

Agreed. The problem is players demanding new contracts that are through the roof despite just having signed a new deal or just having joined the club.

It makes it hard, especially when you're trying to create a wage system where nobody earns more than 200k.

I feel like I overpaid for Sancho but he's been performing really well so worth the money I think. How did you guys manage to pick him up for cheap?!

Also any recommendations for a replacement for Matic?

    In FM20?

Declan Rice, Lewis Cook, Sandro Tonali, Florentino Luis, Ruben Neves, Marcos Llorente, Rodrigo Bentancur, Ismael Bennacer.

At least from what I can remember.

Also, don't think you overpaid for Sancho. Pretty much all of us paid that price for him.

Ok so Pogba is unhappy but I will be stupidest man on planet if I sell him for this bid. Real Madrid also, 55mil£ top bid.

On the other hand AWB wanted new contract and I offer him 125k per week but after few weeks he is unhappy and want to left the club. Offers is around 50mil, but I want let him without at least 70mil. I don't want sell him but no one is bigger than the club and no one is unreplacable . It's so frustrating that I won 6 trophy in 1 year at the club and their is problems in "squad harmony" .

    pogba .jpg

    AWB.jpg

Have sold Pogba for around 60m. 1 year left on his contract and no regrets.

AWB is getting a bit annoying, but I've managed to shut him up for now. Ricardo Pereira is a great current option and Lamptey would be great for the future.

As for Pogba, I'm currently hoping I can persuade Odegaard to make the move for 100m.
